HISTORY OF THE DAESUS
A meteor cut a burning path through the sky, igniting the very air and setting off every alarm system in the country. Batteries were mobilised, planes were armed and the nation watched in horror as missiles bounced off the rock, or exploding on impact without leaving a scratch. It scrambled communications, radar, satelite, everything. It was small, but it was fast enough and hot enough to make it a Global Killer.
As it neared the High Lake, the water boiled so fast that the meteor didnt even touch it. With a sickening thud, it hurled itself into the lake bed, cracking the rock and lodging itself only 4km from the mantle. Surprisingly, damage was limited, and although entire cities nearby were leveled by the earthquake, no international damage was concievable. Water preasure in the lake had dropped drastically, and with the burst of Southwell Dam, it was quickly filled again. Within an hour thousands of scientists flocked to the scene, using every instrument known to man to figure it all out. Surprisingly large bubbles floated to the surface, as did the bodies of strange men in black labcoats, unnoticed by the others and taken away in silence.
Mark was bored, just a regular meteor in a regular lake with the regular crackpots spouting the regular theorems. He took to skimming stones, and found a perectly shaped pebble. He turned away on its seventh bounce, then went bleeding to the floor as someone threw it back. Or something. A figure resembling a human waded from the lake, a feat impossible by any standards. The lake was at least a mile deep, and the meteor had hit the bottom without a doubt. The towering figure was around 7 feet tall and muscular, with detailed grey tribal-like markings covering his whole body. He had no hair, and brown eyes, with more of a red tint than usual.
People were shouting, and pointing, and shouting some more. Some drew weapons and shouted, their bewildered Visitor stood still and opened his mouth in shock. Two large humans had pinned him down, forcing some metal and plastic restraint around his wrists.
"Hows the specimen?" Anna asked, nodding towards the Incubation Chamber.
"Ready for revival" replied John, as he pushed buttons and typed in codes to open the Chamber. The fluid drained from the tank, and The Specimen dropped to the ground. The X-rays were impressive, showing that he, if it was a he, did not have a typical skeletal structure. It was made up of thousands upon thousands of little bones, akin to a snake. This allowed for superior freedom of movement, and an incredible resistance to breakage. All the organs of a human were there, with the addition of a small grey ball the size of a marble located behind the heart. Brain scans had reported a wildly different stucture, with no diffinitive left or right halves, but one entity.
John held the submachine gun steadily, on orders to terminate if hostile. A full squad of special ops were on standby, nothing could go wrong.
The sweeper team 2 moved silently through the corridors, uncovering bodies as they went. Various discarded weapons, and more disturbingly helmets, determined the fate of the first sweeper team. Blood was minimal, every corpse found had broken necks or backs, sometimes with arms or legs as well. In several cases, firearms had been used, fired into the spinal chord or brain without fail.
Divers, scientists and a government confession had revealed that the Specimen had not come from above, but from below. The impact had uncovered a secret laboratory, freeing 'The Project', as they refered to it. They explained the although it resebles a human, it was built from scratch. The Geonome held information of all the classes. The team had hoped to create a race of specialists, each and every one of them genetically modified to perform a certain task. The concept had later been scraped, them focusing their efforts on a single being.
They approached the main chamber room, and saw a quivering mass in the centre. It was The Project for certain, they fanned out and made a semi-circle around it. The sergeant stepped forward tentatively, jumping back with a shout as The Project split into two, identical beings. As the squad opened fire, hundreds more came through doors and windows to surround the sweeper force. They didn't stand a chance, the beautiful, yet brutally efficient fighting style of the assailants came naturally, leaving none alive.
Six Years Later
The 'Daesus', as they were once known have become officially accpeted as part of the populace, and given equal rights as any other human. They have a strong political party, and are expected to win the next election. All of them are identified by their tribal markings, similar but always unique, like a human fingerprint. Anti-Daesus Activists have a tendancy to go missing, turning up a week later with a changed perspective or not turning up at all. They make up a significant portion of the army, the eqipment manufacturers quick to catch on to their different proportions and bone structure. The Daesus have proved themselves at least equal to humans with all manner of weapons, vehicles and aircraft.
It was at this point that current Emperor, Lord Aysto III, openly declared his hatred towards the inhuman scourge, and has lead every human of the nation northwards to the Frozen Plains of Granigtor. Given the choice to join the emperor, or be alienated themselves, even humans that supported and campaigned for the Daesus have moved.
It has been noticed that the Daesus have some sort of remnant to their intended purpose. Those who enlist in the airforce have noticed slightly increased vision rage and a near immunity to air sickness.
A glorious find was made some months after their rise to acceptance within society, when a 'female' Daesus was found in another research lab in the desert. Since, genetic changes have been put into every living member of the Daesus, to incorperate the opposite sex in their reproduction. Accelerated growth and mitosis of the female has brought their number swiftly up to 50% of the total population. Their mitosis has now been removed, as with the males, and now their reproduction is similar to the human method. Population grows steadily, with the newborn being children and growing to full height and strength within nine or ten years. The typical life expectancy is unknown, as they are so close to the date of their creation, but it is estimated at 120 years.
Intellegence wise, they are sharper than an average human, and some display a type of cunning that incorperates tactics and thinking it through, provding the army with some of the best tacticians in the world. The soldiers too have this attribute, and try for more covert methods such as sabotage. If the situation calls for it, however, not one will hold back from a frontal assault.
Various human 'crusades' have come from the southern lands in an attempt to rid them from the world. Time and time again the Daesus offer their ultimatum of unity or death, and time and time again the humans laugh at the Daesus and procede to be slaughtered.
They are peaceful by nature, and only act on defence, but act decisively and swiftly when they do. They have an intrest in close quarters combat, and it has been an essential part of many battle doctrines. They prefer combat in the desert, jungle and urban environments, but will not shy from naval or arctic engagements.
