Alexonium:

The counties to the west, home of 80% of the country's Lutherins and Evangelicals have formed the Occidental Confederacy, declaring that they operate under the auspices of the Almighty and not under the authority of Emir Alex II. This has been long brewing, but the troublesome Prince Leif has been stirring things up.

The Occidental Confederacy has passed several new laws, first of which establish Christianity as a state religion, and issuing a mandate for all others to convert or leave. Emir Alex II has not taken kindly to this by any means, and has vowed that all means necessesary will be taken to thwart the 'explusion of freedom of concience'. Additionally, the Emir has said that 'he senses a foreign hand in the situation'.

The Free Lands of Nedalia has recently been alerted of the on-goings in Alexonium and wish to assist in anyway it can. While our president is a Christian Protestant, the largest sect in Nedalia are the Shi'ite Muslims, and as of yet, we have not encountered any religious strife. We feel we could help Alexonium and this newly formed Occidental Confederacy come to humane terms and end this stand-off that will benefit no one.

Alexonium:

The Emir Alex II and the Prime Minister Hans van de Vender of the Occidnetal Confederacy met yesterday, the arguements being variations of the following sequence:

"You can do this inside the government you know."
"We don't want to. Too liberal, and we wouldn't accomplish what we should."
"The reason we are considered liberal is because we don't regulate things on the social level unless it A. is necessesary to preserve the liberties of the country or B. ensure that it does not cost the Emirate."
"And that has lead to chaos."
"I see no chaos. I only see outright pandering to a minority."
"Well, we're doing it anyway."

Most analysts have come to the conclusion that it is an extremely grave situation, as the Occidentals have passed resolutions establishing a new currency, as well as recriminalizing controlled substances and premarital sex and cohabitation.
