New Cruisers Enter Imperial Service

Previously the only cruisers in the fleet were the Alexandria class CANs, whose missile armament was wholly inadequate for air defense duties and with the introduction of newer destroyers even its land-attack role was put into question. Thus, it was decided that the greatest need the Imperial Navy had was to introduce two new classes of cruiser to update the fleets. The first is the Alexandria's successor, the Galicia class CAN, whose massive gun and missile armament make it a force to be reckoned with. The second cruiser is the Alexandria I Larsen class CGN, whose even more massive missile compliment means that enemy aircraft have more to worry about than the Imperial Navy's destroyers.

As anyone who was in on the design of these vessels knows, these ships went through a many revisions before the current design was settled on, and in typical fashion there are already refits planned. For the Imperium, this means updating sensors and adding a third reactor.

Building cycles for both classes will consist of seven cycles of 24 ships. Costs for the Galicia class are expected to be $672 billion, or roughly $96 billion per cycle. The cost of the Alexander I Larsen class is expected to be another $84 billion, or $12 billion per cycle. The total cost for this project is expected to be $1.428 trillion, or $204 billion per cycle.

I've seen smaller battleships. I have smaller battleships. Yowza.

I use dreadnaughts and superdreadnaughts for my line of battle, and none of them are under 250,000 tons. Keep in mind that without the honeycomb frame and armouring scheme, they would shed 30,000 tons. Besides, their armaments are consistent with cruisers.

Really nice, SS. Who all helped with the design?

It's Freethinkers' design. I merely commissioned them, let him use my reactors, and sometimes provide input, and in exchange I recieve unlimited non-commercial production rights.

That was my first thought, but then I remembered how we used to all put in ideas and stuff for ships that were being designed and talked about on the OMP forums.

Still do that sometimes, but this one was all my idea. I think Jim's going to do a helicopter cruiser as well, but that's only on an idea right now.
