The words "Meet the Press" scroll accross the screen as the flashes of news footage rolls into a sunday morning news set. Seated in a semi-circle are Rotovia's toughest political critics.
"Good morning and welcome back to Meet the Press, I'm Rachael Geller and this morning we're discussing gay marriage and the recent Presidential order to prevent state's legislating against it. With me the Sparta Standard's Thomas Centcio, On the Issues' Janice Peterson and Rotovian National News's Anita Wong."
The camera pans as each reporter nods in turn before returning to Ms Geller, who turns to the left so as to position herself directly in the centre of the shot.
"Our guest this morning is the ever controversial Attorney-General Mark Hoyts. Renowned for opposing the proposed execution of the serial killer and convicted traitor Peter Heartings, who is currently being held on the Letican Island Military Prision. Good Morning Mark."
"Good morning Rachael"
"Now you and the President have tangoed before, is there a rift forming within the federal cabnet?"
"Not at all. The President and I respectfully disagree on the bounds of his authority..."
"Now you're the only member from within the government to oppose the President's decision..."
"Well I believe that I have a duty to uphold the integrity of the federal government..."
"Surely..." Jenice Peterson pipes in. "...Surely you have to aggree that the decision of Spartapolis's Governor to sign legislation blatently ignoring the federal legislation allowing homosexual marriage was a bad call. I mean this is a law that's been on the books for decades now..."
"Let me be clear that marraige is an issue for the states"
"Well both the Senate and the Supreme Court on eight seperate occasions disagreed"
"The courts aren't always right, and I will continue to oppose this blatent invasion of state's right by President Bacchuss and his continued mission to centralise government power.
What we're seeing is a complete drain of power from the states since the Powers Adminstration was convicted of High Treason..."
"Is there an truth to the rumours you plan to ask the HIgh Court to overturn the Executive Order?" Enquires Anita Wong.
"I have in fact already filed my petition to the High Court of the Rotovia."
-----------
Inside the Palace of Athens President Bacchuss flicks off the TV and turns towards his aid as he slips on his jacket.
"Prepare my motorcade and inform the Speaker I will be addressing the Senate!"
"Yes, Mr President"
----------
"Ladies and Gentlemen of the Senate, The President of the Constitutional Republic of Rotovia!" Declares the Steward.
"Mr Speaker I request the floor" Begins President Bacchuss.
"The Honourable Representative for Athens, President Bacchuss has the floor"
"Mr Speaker under the provisions in section 45 of the Constitution of Rotovia I present to the Opposition Leader David Quark and the Magistrate of Athens this signed and witnessed decree for the removal of the Federal Attorney General Marcus Hoyts from his Office. I remind you that the Attorney-General serves at the pleasure of the President of Rotovia and I assure that my pleasure has ended... effective immediatly!"
The Senate irrupts in debate as the footage is beamed accross the world.
