Resurrecting a Legend, Revealing a Gunship

A man in a suit stands at a podium emblazoned with the SMDI logo. Behind him a large screen waits to begin its presentation.

Announcer: A legend among gunship helicopters, the AH-1 Cobra. The first and arguably the finest dedicated attack helicopter. Introduced during the Vietnam War this gunship has survived and evolved to meet the changing times. Shenyang Military and Defense Industries is proud to reveal the latest in this long line of attack helicopters. The AH-1X Cobra gunship.

The screen springs to life and shows the newly updated Cobra flying low over a swamp. Then the gunship hovering over a runway

Announcer: We've made some amazing upgrades to this great gunship.

The screen changes again and displays the statistics for the AH-1X Cobra.
(OOC: At bottom of post)

Announcer: First and foremost is the transition to satronger, lighter composites. This makes the gunship an overall more survivable combat platform. Another major update is the use of a fully integrated fire control suite. Gone are the days of stick control of the gun, now, taking a cue from other gunships, it now has an integrated HMHUD, Or Helmet Mounted HUD. The turret is now controlled by the motion of the gunner's head, where he looks, it aims. Another improvement is the updated avionics, now the Cobra can compete with and even surpass such gunships as the formidable Comanche in tactical situations. She is capable of 100 miles per hour backward, and 70 miles per hour in horizontal hovering shifts. The sighting system is fully integrated for many optics and is entirely modular, allowing the entire helicopter to be repaired or updated by simply plugging the new equipment into the same ports as the old. This will keep the Cobra a formidable adversary well into this 21st century.

not bad, are you offering production rights?
Shenyang

OOC: Sorry this is so late, this never came up as having been posted in on my account, wierd, eh?

IC: We are willing to sell production rights for this aircraft for 150 million usd, for this sum you get plans for all neccessary equipment to construct the Cobra, along with the aircraft itself. As you are our first buyer, aside from the Shenyang Airforce and Army, we will also give you ten free Cobras to show our appreciation.

Hmm, That's a good deal, and it saves me from designing a dedicated attack helicopter, I think I'll take you up on the offer.

BTW: I would also like to be able to sell these at my storefront, I'd be willing to offer you a 20% commision for each sale.

The Commonwealth of Lesser Pacifica would like to express its intrest in purchasing, at the very least, limited production rights for these helicopters. Although we are a peacful nation, and expect not military clashes for some time, we feel the need to supplement our small contingent of attack helicopters with these fine peices, so as to better support our mechanized units.

Please inform us of your decision within a relativly timely manner, as our defense budget may have other places to go in the near future.

Gen. Douglas Hunter

Mondoth: your offer is accepted, as long as you label the AH-1X as an SMDI product.

Lesser Pacifica: We are entirely willing to sell you this fine helicopter, please send an order and we will be happy to fill it for you.

Sir(s),

We would like to purchase however many helicopter US $300,000,000 will buy. Your payment will be wired as soon as the purchase is confirmed. Also, we would prefer the helicopters to be delivered in one shipment.

Additionally, we would like to express our intrest in purchasing production rights for whatever components would be required to convert older models of the AH-1 to AH-1Xes. However, if this is prohibitavely expensive, technically impossible, or simply far too involved, we would like to purchase production rights for up to 500 helicopters, to be produced at our own disrection and our own rate.

Regards,
Gen. Douglas Hunter

OOC: Posted a price.

IC: General, your order of 300,000,000 usd worth of AH-1X Cobras, will give you 16 helicopters. As soon as you send the sum of 288,000,000 usd (the cost doesn't fit exactly) they will be sent. As to converting older Cobras to AH-1X status, it is a highly difficult and involved process, as many components have been totally replaced, and the skin is an entirely different material, not the aluminum of the original Cobra, more like the composite skin of the RAH-66 Comanche. As a result it is not possible to upgrade an existing Cobra to AH-1X standards. We are sorry for any incovenience this may cause.

US $288,000,000 has been wired to your account via a secure transfer. Our Air Cavalry units will likely be greatly pleased with these helicopters.

Thank you for your service,

Of course, we wouldn't dream of taking credit for anothers work

OOC: do you have a link to your storefront (if you have a storefront) that I could use?

OOC: I had one, but it crashed and burnt, so I've contented myself with simply designing and selling weapons without one.

The Republic of Skinny87 Department of Defense is impressed with the design of this Attack Helicopter, and as the Republics older models are to be phased out, we would like to purchase 100 Models for 1.8 Billion USD. The money has been wired to your account.

Since you built the AH-1X Super/ King Cobra. The AH-1Z is twice as better than the X version. Are the avonics the same as the AH-1Z or different. Explain if there are any differences.

The AH-1X, is one of the only model designations of Cobra not used, it is in essence a completely new helicopter. Composite airframe, revamped engines, totally different avionics package. Revamped fire control. The only truely recurring concepts on this helicopter from the Z model are the M198 20mm cannon, crew positions, and the airframe. The flight characteristics surpass those of an RAH-66 Comanche, on all fronts including lateral (side to side) flight and reverse top speed.

OOC: Think of this as the Bionic Man of Cobra gunships, better, stronger, faster, I think you can get the picture from that. (Disregard rest of post if you understand, not meant as insult to your intelligence) If not I'll give you these equations to futher simplify it:

> : greater than symbol (you never know who won't know when they read this)

AH-1X Hooded Cobra > AH-1G-Z

AH-1X Hooded Cobra > AH-64A-D

AH-1X Hooded Cobra > RAH-66

not bad. Is it designed for the various parts of the Armed Forces or just for the Marine Corps

It can be used by any branch of a military equally, but it is reinforced to survive hard carrier landings (i.e. navy and marines) even if bought for an army. In this way, if a unit is sent from one branch to another, for example from the airforce to the marines, it can operate effectively with no modifications, it cuts down costs, making upkeep easier for the men involved. It also adds to the survivability slightly, as to survive a carrier landing, the aircraft has to stronger than if it simply had to set down in a clearing or on a helipad. (so basically it can work for everyone with no changes)

Would you mind ugrading all my AH-1W Super Cobras to the AH-1X Super Cobra??

The AH-1X, is one of the only model designations of Cobra not used, it is in essence a completely new helicopter.

As we have said earlier, the other AH-1 variants cannot be remodelled into AH-1Xs due to the extremely involved nature of the conversion, and the fact that fundamentally this is an entirely new beast with a familiar face. We are sorry to inform you that we cannot convert older AH-1s into AH-1Xs.
