Greens stall; SC drops; PdT gains in the wee hours before vote
Support for Fernando Chiovitti's Social Coalition Party further dropped yesterday amid a scandal that his party accepted over D1.4-mn in sponsor donations from ex-union heads and international supporters of his party. That is, of course, well over the rule of D250,000 per year for all parties under the Constitution, and the Revenue Management Agency of Pacitalia, the Government's tax collection and distribution controller, says that stubs for, of course, only around D236,000 of the donations were claimed which brought the SCP's total to D250,000 for the year - or so everyone thought. What's worse? The SCP gained all that money not in one year, but in one month.
This monetary misappropriation scandal has brought further harm to a party already withering under the fresh-and-new Green party who, under Neros Constantakis, already took around 20% of the SCP's support away from them. The Greens sit at a comfortable 28.5% but have stalled after recovering fantastically from a seven-point drop last week. The Social Coalition, however, have fallen to 5.8% and thusly are now in fourth place in the election race, another new low for the party.
The Partia di Traditionale led by Marco Quirinamo, oddly enough, seem to have benefitted from this scandal, instead of one of the other two leftist parties, wherein their support rose from 6.6% to 10.1%, their highest level of support in two years, and as a result, putting them in third place.
Meanwhile, the Federation of Progressive Democrats remained steady at 52.2% and are expected to be returned to power in another majority; while the Communists oddly dropped another 0.4% support and now sit at 3.4% nationwide.
