The noise of the cargo helicopters was almost deafening. The officer sent to meet the Overlord had to shout over the din to be heard as a mumble. "Welcome to the Dying Grounds, sir! I'm sorry that we don't have accomidations that you're used to, but we are still constructing the Provincial Capital. Normally we have conquered cities to use. Here... we've had to build from nothing." The officer spoke, leading Davion Varchak through the maze of tents, makeshift buildings and heavy equipment, speaking softer as the helicopters lifted off and went out to sea.

"I see that you are not building a modern styled city, Colonel Hilts," he remarked, stopping to look at the rather odd sight of a crane lifting stone blocks into position for the construction of the city wall.

"No sir. The planners thought that a modern city jutting out of such a landscape would be... unfitting." A smile as he pointed at another section of the city, where large columns were being shaped from rock by teams of workers. "So it was decided to build a city styled after the ancient cities of the Romans, mixed with the imposing fortifications of the European castles."

Varchak nodded and started to walk again, taking a tour of the construction. The city was nearly deafening in some areas, with so much work going on. Right now, it was minimal in terms of people. The capital would hold ten times what was here, building it. The three other cities that would be made were to be built in the same style as the capital.

Soon, the two came to the makeshift buildings that would serve as Varchak's headquarters for the duration. After a few minutes discussion of the city and a few more on the still troublesome Gar the Executioner, Varchak changed the subject. "Colonel, I am impressed with both the design, the quality and the speed of construction and with the handling of this... Gar. I won't be staying here long, though."

"This was just an inspection trip then, sir? Making sure we're not going to make ourselves look bad?" Hilts asked, causing Davion to look up at him. For a few seconds, he was silent, assessing the veteran pilot. Uniform was cleaner and neater than some he had seen in the capital. Medals were worn. Out of them he could name only a few... Double Ace. Peregine Medal of Valor. Twenty year officer's service pin. Ten year enlisted. This man served under the High Commander... the days when nations bent to the will of the GDODAD banner, he thought, before he spoke. "No. That was just the first part of my trip. I would have sent Kamara if it was just to inspect your operation. I'm going to Automagfreek to arrange a meeting of all Gholgoth leaders. I think it's time we all met."

----------

A day later, Varchak boarded a military transport helicopter with his four Civil bodygaurd unit, heading for the capital of AMF. He listened to the pilot identify the aircraft he was in to the Freek controllers as Imperial Lance. The name given to any aircraft the Emperor was in. Imperial Sword would mean it was Oran's aircraft and Imperial Shield would be General Marco's or High Inquisitor Kamara's. As the helicopter cruised over the lands, Varchak looked out the open cargo door. He could see the scars these lands held. A land with a history of death and suffering. And I am one of it's defenders now.

Messages were sent to all the nations of Gholgoth from the Provincial Capital.

Defenders of Gholgoth, I have been asked to convey the following message to you by Overlord Varchak. 'The Dying Grounds are indeed one of the most impregnable lands on the planet. Defended by some of the strongest nations around. Yet we do not know each other very well. It is time we meet in person to speak of the future of these lands and the impact that we shall bring to the world in the coming months and years... I am requesting that this meeting be held in the capital of the original defenders of the Dying Grounds, Pantera. I am also requesting it be held as soon as possible. We should not put off solidification. I am currently en-route to St. Freeksburg, which is why Colonel Hilts is delivering this message.'

"The Free Lands welcome our brothers and allies with open arms. On Varchek's request, we will be honored and pleased to host this, the first gathering of those who would wield the sword that is Gholgoth.

The Seastone Palace awaits. For such a gathering of warriors and Kings, it is a fitting place to hold our council. Come, then, and be welcomed by the citizenry of Pantera.

Let there be no foolisness, however. I will not tolerate bickering amongst the gathering. Should any think to forfeit the dignity of our proceedings, they shall also forfeit their lifesblood."

Despite the Evenstar's warm note of welcome, he was not pleased. This Varchak simply volunteered Pantera to host this council, with no word of request. Quite presumptuous of him, it was. No matter, though. Best to hold the proceedings in Pantera, where safety and decorum was assured, rather than in some fool's nest abroad, where anything might happen.

The office was quiet, the early evening air breezed in gently from the open balcony door behind his desk, President Blüme was sitting back in his chair reading over a recent report from the front in Neo Aequatius, "Bloody stupid, there could be an entire army out there and we haven't found them yet."

Just at that moment, the young Miss Berger entered with the message from Colonel Hilts of Crimmond inviting the leaders of the Gholgoth nations to a formal meeting in the capital of Pantera, "This is rather important, Sir, I would highly suggest going as many of the nations in Gholgoth have practically a non-existent relationship with our Republic, short of Automagfreek and Doujin when we ordered three superdreadnoughts which were never filled." (OOC: *HINT HINT*)

"All right, prepare my staff for a trip and send a reply to Crimmond that we shall be attending, we shall finally break that bad streak of having almost no relations with the nations we sit beside in the world," ordered the president.

-----

Colonel Virgil Hilts, Gholgoth Marine Air Corps, Most Senior Active Duty Pilot,

The Aequatian Republic is honoured by the invitation and President Nicklas Blüme shall attend the meeting with Secretary of State Elsa Berger as his counterpart. All we require is a time for us to arrive in the capital of Pantera for the conference.

Armien Gurloukivich was overseeing 'The Anguish' (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=352856), as a technical advisor for Armien ran up to him and stated that he had an urgent message from The Reforming Empire of Crimmond. Armien was slightly surprised, he knew that Crimmond and Neo-Wu were sharing nations of the new, Gholgoth, but other than that had not had any relations with Crimmond, at least not recently.

Armien asked what it said; he listened as his Technical Advisor had explained it. Through all the screams of The Anguish, he got his encrypted cell phone and called for a private jet. He would be immediately attending this conference for Gholgoth dropping anything else he had to do.

Executor Shijin Kotomari got dressed and prepared himself for the meet.

He knew that it was necessary; and it was time, as half the nations in Gholgoth didnt even know one another.

I hope it turns out to be a case of Familiarity breeds Content, over Familiarity breeds Contempt. An alliance such as this one can only be weakened by internal dispute. I pray that the National Leaders recognize this, and have the wisdom to place pettiness aside for Strength, Unity, and Honor.

---------------------------

"To esteemed allies, and brothers. I am Shijin Kotomari, This will be the second time I come to the Dying Ground. As many of you know, I am one of three Warrior Kings within the blood pact. Pantera and Automagfreek fulfill the role of the other two. It will be my honor to meet and solidify the existing relationship with the rest of you, our paths have not crossed much in the past, if at all. But destiny has brought them together now, I pray that all leaders see the power in this and bring nothing but the best of their nation to the table that we shall sit at, that will determine our mutual Futures and Fortunes.

Whatever God or Gods you may pray too, if at all. May they bless this summit, and yourselves. Onward to Glory, my brothers!"

Ki'atra, alone, was walking through one of the better vegetated parts of the land. Everything she touched seemed to spring with life. Where many bring death, she brought hope and life. Birds flocked around her, and animals looked on with curiousity. This land has seen so much death, and for a being of light to come through.. well, it was definately new to these creatures.

The Empyrean Elder, sensing she was needed, headed towards the clearing where the Empyrean Wraith awaited. Ki'atra, truly a being of light, radiated as she approached the craft. Nodding towards her crew, she entered and the plane took off.

"Empyrean Elder, what is your destination now?"

"Pantera"

The pilot looked surprised. What business would someone as peaceful as Ki'atra have with a nation as destructive as Pantera? Nevertheless, it was none of his business. He quickly entered his destination, and transmitted the proper identification to the Empyrean Guardians.

The Empyrean Wraith lifted off, heading in the direction of Pantera. Ki'atra, not knowing the real reason of her being called there, simply knew that she was required to attend.

Shortly after takeoff, several messages were delivered via satellite from the Empyrean Overseers. A meeting of the nations of Gholgoth was being held in Pantera's Seastone Palace, and as she already knew, her attendance was requested.

"Send a message to the nations of Gholgoth. Simply, let it say that I, the Empyrean Elder, Mistress of Light and Guardian of the Fires of Heaven, will be in attendance of this meeting."

And so this message was sent, via the Empyrean Overseers.

To all the nations of Gholgoth. By the Grace of the Light, Empress of Doujin, Mistress of the Four Winds, Guardian of the Sea of Storms, High Seat of the Empyreans, Bringer of Peace, Overseer of the Fires of Heaven, will be in attendance at the Seastone Palace in Pantera for this meeting, as requested.

Samtonian Foreign Service Building
The room was in a frenzy of activity once again as countless aides rushed about, stuffing papers into briefcases. Meetings were generally called for in advance, not out of the blue for a time almost immediately. This created a major crimp in time schedules and meant the entire wing of the Samtonian Foreign Services building which dealt with high-level diplomacy had been throw into an uproar.

Carl Vanderhoven was literally running along the hallways with a phone in each hand carrying on two conversations at the same time as countless peons raced behind him adjusting suits and attaché cases.

“No, Minister, I assure you there is nothing developing in the attack front. No, no we are fine. What? No, I’m not saying it isn’t a problem! Re-route it! No, James, not that field army. I’m talking with Sue about food quotas. Yes, yes. Right. I guess Sue says hi.” Matters were not helped by the addition of a third phone held by an attendant who literally beat through the doors in front of him with his shoulder.

“Ah, Alec. Long time no talk. Just a tic. Sue, I’ll get on with that. In the mean time, schedule a meeting for tomorrow. Yes, that will work. Re-route it! No, James, not the army! Re-route the timeframe! Really Alec? Hmm. Adjust then. Talk to you later Sue. James, just do it as you see fit and screw the contingencies. Alec, I’ll see you on the plane.”

As all three phones were turned off, Vanderhoven dove into the limousine that would take him and his entourage to the airport where the jet was primed and waiting. He shook his head as yet another document was unsummarily thrown onto his lap. “All right people. I’ve got five minutes. You each have thirty seconds. Go.”

The group of high-ranking advisors began going around and holding papers up to Vanderhoven to read. “Sir, here’s the situation with Samtonian Mining Ltd. They’ve got the area claimed, but need your support.”

“We’ll give it as soon as the minerals start coming. You should know my reply Ivan. Sonja, what’s that brilliant gold one?’

“Human rights crisis in Crimmond. Reports of genocide, etc.”

“File it away under things I wish my allies didn’t do but do anyways. And forget about it while we’re at the meeting. Next!”

“AMF is attacking someone yet again.”

“Who?”

“Dumpsterdam….I think.”

“Get more information. Try to see if we could mediate it somehow. You know how I hate watching Sentinels slaughter and rape their way across a country. Next!”

“Quotas for next military quarter are in. We’ve got production ramping up on the I-9’s. You know sir, the flame tanks?”

“Ah. Right. Standard press release. And that’s all the time we have people. Out the door!”

As the black limousines pulled up in convoy formation to the waiting jet, a door on the second one opened and Vanderhoven took a running leap our, suit flapping behind him in hand. And right after him came his staff, carrying yards of paperwork, laptops, and other pieces of technological marvel that simply had to come along. Within five minutes they were in the jets and into the air.

And still Vanderhoven worked. After all, this meeting had just torn his schedule to shreds.

Message to all Gholgoth nations
Right. Hope you’ve all enjoyed the move. I’m on my way to the meeting and am a bit busy right now, so pardon the abrupt message. Until then, cheers!

Armien, stepping into the private jet he had called for, sat himself in the plush leather chair, and told the pilot to head to Pantera. He asked why Pantera, you have almost no relations with them, Armien had the pilot arrested immediatly for questioning Armien's reasoning. A new pilot was called upon, and they took off for the land of Pantera.

Armien then pulled up his laptop and wired an ecrypted message to all the nations of Gholgoth.

I thank you for the invitation to this meeting, I will be as there as promptly as possible. I hope this will be a meeting with meaning, and not just a gathering a people who want to fucking chat, like the last one I was at. But that doesn't concern you. I shall be there soon. Godspeed.

Varchak stepped off the jet and onto the tarmac. "Automagfreek. Not quite as hard and cold as I imagined..." Davion commented to one of his two Civil gaurds. The gaurd didn't reply, being as stonefaced as allways. Davion didn't notice, he was just talking to hear himself talk. "After the 'hellos' with Damien, we'll be heading back here adn then to Pantera."

As he spoke, the car that would take him to see Damien arrived. He was about to walk towards it when a sound behind him caused him to turn. "Ah, Epsilon. I see you care to meet the great man as well?"

The woman walked up to Davion and said nothing at first. "I'm merely an observer, Overlord." she finally said as the driver opened the door of the car. Both got in and stayed silent as they traveled, for different reasons. Davion was nervous. Epsilon, an Inquisitor and former Black Staff Counciller, was taking all sorts of mental notes. What people wore, what shops there were, how many police and how well armed and, most importantly, the glimpse of the Halls, which were on the next block.

When she mentioned them, the driver got a bit nervous. "We don't talk about that place much. I've wondered what goes on in there, exactly, but I don't intend to do anything that will get me a first hand look." he said, after he shuddered. Damien's little shop of horrors seems to keep the common man out of trouble. I wish Inferno worked as well. she thought, but was interuppted by Davion.

"I heard that the Executioners are former prisoners." he shook his head, finding that hard to believe. Violent criminals used as executioners... no matter how sensible it seemed on paper, it must be a dangerous operation to manage.

Soon though, the three(plus the two Civils, but Davion didn't think of them) arrived and the driver opened the door, allowing the towering bodygaurds(wearing Marine fatigues, but only carrying shortsabers) to exit first, before the two bodies they gaurded did. They all walked up the steps into the palace, past the Sentinals that seemed to pay them no mind, but were well aware who was around them. But once inside, they were escorted to the blood red throne room, where Damien awaited.

Varchak stepped up and bowed his head briefly, in respect. Epsilon just stood there, as the Overlord spoke to the Warlord. "Lord Damien, I am greatful that you have allowed this visit. I am also very greatful for your work to depose the disgusting Black Staff." That got an annoyed look from Epsilon, but she stayed silent and Davion ignored her. "Our Empires will prosper together, as proven in the way all the foes of Gholgoth have backed down. I came here first to thank you from one leader to the other."

After a few minutes of talk between the two leaders, Davion bowed his head again and this time Epsilon joined him, reluctantly. Varchak smiled a smile any used car salesman would have sold their grandmothers for and spoke as he turned to leave. "I look foreward to this meeting. I bring gifts for all of Gholgoth."

Pantera
04-06-2005, 00:47
The stormclouds on the eastern horizon boiled all nght, and when dawn broke, the skies opened over Pantera. The rains came, drenching the frozen hell of Northern Pantera in water that soon froze, leaving the landscape a near unbroken sheet of glistening ice. The ocurance known to Panteran's as the 'Snap Freeze' came in force, and, though it would inconvenience many of the incoming delegates, Dayne was forced to put a halt to air traffic in Northern Pantera.

The 'Snap Freeze' was the sudden sudden, drastic drop in temperature that kept the northern plains a frozen wasteland most of the year. With the rain still on the ground, landings would have been a nightmare, that is, if the inbound planes managed to get through the storms without the ice building up on their wings and sending them to the earth or into the sea.

"Inbound delegates, the Evenstar sends his apologies, but the gathering of Gholgothan leaders has been delayed a number of hours. Please hold to pattern Four-Two-Zero over Eastern Panteran waters. Landing facilities and refuelling will be available on the isle of Braavos, at the following coordinates...."

Dayne knew many would be unhappy with the prospect of delaying the meeting, but they would be far more likely to live if their arrival was delayed a few hours more...

When the sun finally broke over northern Pantera, the Snap had lasted eighteen chilly hours. A civilian craft had went down in the frigid seas, but it was their own fault, for being so stupid as to fly in those conditions. So, Dayne once again placed the cry over the radio,"Gholgothan representatives, you are now clear to land. I repeat, clear to land at Toke International Airport. The Evenstar looks forward to your arrival in Toke and apologizes once more for the delay. Welcome to Pantera."

"Toke Tower, This is Golden Eagle (OOC: Codename for President of Aequatio's jet), we are now making our approach to our assigned runway and we would like to thank you for your hospitality.

The President's own plane, Aequatio One, came in slow on approach to Toke International Airport as Blüme looked out the window, "Pantera, it is quite the dreary country isn't it, Ms. Berger?"

The young minister nodded quietly as she continued to work on her laptop, sending an apology for the delay in their arrival to Colonel Hilts due to both political problems at home and military obligations around the world, "It is, but as they are our allies, we should keep comments like that to ourselves."

"I understand, but still, it seems so different than what I'm used to," replied the President as he buckled into his seat and finished his drink. "Our cars will be ready for us by the time we land?"

"They will be unloaded from the C-5 aircraft that has accompanied us," answered Berger, "I just hope that the Panterans aren't insulted by the gesture of bringing our own cars."

After a short time, both Aequatio One and the C-5 Galaxy were on the ground, the President and his Minister disembarked from the private jet as his personal cars were doing the same. Ms. Berger sent a second message to Colonel Hilts notifying him of their arrival for the conference.

Varchak was too busy checking his packages to hear the pilot acknowledge the air controler and fall into the flight line. He only realized they were going to land when Epsilon told him to sit down. He was nervous. Yes, he was an evil SOB that had ordered the deaths of hundreds of millions in Baggera and Crimmond, but he wasn't a warrior... He was a despot, at best. Epsilon, on the other hand, looked calm. Of course, she allways looked calm.

The plane touched down and taxied to the proper areas, the pilot allready radioing for a de-icer to be ready, if there was some need to get the Overlord out of Toke in a hurry. Davion was again too preoccupied to notice. Opening the door of teh small corporate jet, he stepped down into the cold. He wore his normal clothing, made for weather about 40 degrees warmer. "I should have packed long underwear." he commented to Epsilon, as she walked up.

"Please... don't tell me that you're afraid of frostbite. You were in cryo for eleven years." She was wearing clothing made for warmer weather too, but didn't complain. She had sense enough to have a cloak on.

Davion, however, just laughed. "Exactly. And I don't intend to be that cold ever again. Ah! Transportation approaches. I think." He said, pointing to a vehicle heading their way.

Thus being whisked to the conference building, Davion, Epsilon and the two Civil bruisers went through the usual security, having only a bit of trouble when the Civils set off the metal detector. They merely pointed to the machete like blade each carried.

The doors open to the meeting chamber and the four enter, studying the area for different reasons. If Dayne happened to be there at the moment, Davion would bow his head. "Evenstar, it is good to meet you. I hope this meeting will prove fruitfull and I thank you for accepting to host it." Epsilon just nodded once to him and took a seat, while the two Civils just stood behind them and looked disgruntled.

-------

Hilts, meanwhile, was handling reports and paperwork when the message came in to him. "So... they contacted me to tell me they've landed when they could just tell Varchak, who would allready assume that, being on the ground too?" An aide nodded. "Huh. Ah well." And he went back to a strange report about vanishing stores of pumpernickle bread.

Snowlander stepped off of the plane. He, as well as his escorts, were all dressed in very thick clothing. The cold weather was a far cry from the blistering heats of the Sigman deserts. He made a quick note that this was the first time that a dignitary from his nation had been to the great nation of Pantera, even though they had long been on good terms.

Transport was waiting as he looked around. A woman, the only one with him not wearing the black helmets of the SOET, tugged on his arm. "Come general, we will be late. And I'm sure that you, as well as I, don't want to be in the cold for too long.

He shrugged her off. He walked to the car, calling behind him,"Well, come on then Natalie." She followed, as well as a single SOET. Two remaining SOET stayed behind at the plane.

The ride there was relatively quiet. The SOET and Natalie kept they're eyes on Snowlander and the surrounding area. Snowlander just stared out the window. He knew as well that they did that they were in one of the more well defended nations in Gholgoth. Nothing would happen, there were no rebels here.

As they came to the palace, all looked up at the structure. "Sure don't have any buildings like that back home," the SOET commented. He snapped the clasp on his helmet open and removed it. He set it on the seat beside him. "With all due respect to our allies, general, I do not believe that I should wear this helmet inside."

Snowlander nodded. "Yes, it would show respect and honor. It's important to make a good impression. Remember, lieutenant Raide, that you are a representative of our finest weapons."

Raide nodded.

Natalie opened the door and stepped out. Raide and Snowlander followed behind her. They proceeded into the great building.

The great stone fireplaces that lined the walls of the Great Hall burned brightly, warding off the chill of the air. Though the Palace was equipped with all modern comforts, it was the way of the Evenstar, and his predecessors, to maintain the image of barbarism that the world saw when they looked upon Pantera.

So he sat before one of the fires, wrapped in the flowing, black and white striped shadowskin cloak, his hair in their customary braids, and greeted the incoming delegates. Most so far had been stuffy political types, but he had expected that.

The greetings went smoothly, but Dayne soon tired of his speech,"Greetings, friends. Welcome. The other delegates -should- arrive soon, but until then my servants are at your disposal. Drinks, food, rooms for a spot of rest, all are available upon request...."

The pleasantries continued, of course, but eventually Dayne found himself in a casual conversation with the Crim, Davion, on the possibilities of the shifting of Crimmonds ports to the production of a mighty new Panteran Armada.

"I'm looking to float a thousand new ships in the coming years. Five hundred in the next eighteen months. Three hundred or so can be built here, in Pantera, but our facilities are simply not going to meet the demand. Should Crimmond be able to supply the shipyards and berths for the remaining two hundred desired vessels, I shall make sure that Crimmond will benefit greatly..." The discussions continued amiably, but the Evenstar was soon tired of the banter. The time to get this thing started had come and gone.

The President's personalized limousine pulled up to the Grand Hall with Berger's following closely behind, as per security protocols which prevented the transport of high officials together, both had come to a stop and Blüme stepped out from the black car as Berger approached his side, "Mr. President, I don't see a point to us really being here at this meeting."

"We're here to discuss regional issues and future involvements into activities with our regional neighbours," replied Blüme, "Besides, I have yet to meet many of these leaders."

Both Blüme and Berger had entered the Grand Hall where the rest of the delegates were as the young minister whispered to Blüme, "I realize that, sir, but we really have more pressing issues to deal with at home and in Pirna, this was hardly the time to take a trip to meet with nations we barely have any relations with other than we happen to be near them."

"I realize that, El, but we really need to improve our relations and not remain such an isolationist, jingoistic nation," explained the president, "Let's just get this over with and we can return home in a better state than when we arrived."

"All right, but I don't see what good it will do," said Berger as they both entered the room and began introducing themselves to the other delegates.

Epsilon was allready seated, merely watching the others. She was not a talkative person, even less so with outsiders. Like many in Crimmond, she wanted nothing more than for the Empire to shut itself off from the world and handle it's own bussiness.

Varchak was being... Varchak. Eagerly talking to Dayne, he agreed that Crimmond could produce the required ships, but probably not as fast as his own shipyards could produce. Turning to the newly arrived leaders, he grinned. "Ah, see Evenstar, they will arrive. I suppose immediatly is just not in some leaders vocabularies. Then again, who tells the undisputed ruler of their nation when they have to be somewhere?"
