OOC: Survey of Magic

As some of you may know, I am Warhaven. Some of you may have read my posts. As of late, those of you who have read my posts, well notice that I am using magic, and, with three other nations, founded the wizards council.

This is not advertising the Council, however, if you wish to join the council, and agree to a loose universal set of laws we can all follow, please click on the words The Wizards Council, in my Sig.

No, this is merely a survey of nations who, in one fashion or another, use magic.

This Includes:
A) Arcane Magic. Arcane Magic, is what Wizards, Sorcerers, witches, and Necromancers use. There are no shortage of books out there demonstrating Arcane magic. Arcane is classic Magic.

B) Divine Magic. Divine Magic is power bestowed by a God/Goddess. It can be any God/Goddess. Usually, Divine Magic is designed to aid another being, or, in the case of Dark Gods, harm another person. Usually, the caster is a follower of said God, and therefore of the same alignment. Casters are usually Clerics or Palidins.

C) Nature Magic. This Magic uses the powers of Nature itself. Nature Magic can do things from both Arcane and Divine Magic, but in a limited manner, and, it also does things to the local area, bending Nature to your will. Be careful though, Nature has a will all its own. Practioners are usuall Druids and Rangers.

D) Chi Magic. This is using your own natural abilities to better your own natural skills. This is usuall manefested in Monks. This Magic is usually associated with Asian Culture, but anyone can learn to use it really, as long as the have the proper Discipline.

E) Psionic Magic. Using the powers of the Mind. This Magic is not really Magic, but for NS purposes, is associated with it. Normal people can not lift a 20 ton boulder with a thought. Psionic Magic has many abilities all its own. Jedi, Sith, and a variety of other titles are usually assaciated with Psionic Magic.

F) Summoning. Yes, taken from the Final fantasy series, Summoned Monsters are powerful allies who aid in battle only to those who prove themselves. I created a set of summoned creatures I would be glad to share with everbody. The Fayth based system from FFX is great, and allows the summoned creatures to be in more than one place at once. I even have a king of the summoned monsters, but, he is also one of my Major Characters, and also falls into the next category as well, so, those that want to summon him, have to earn him from me personally. I'll post the book of summoned monsters if enough people want them.

G)Mystery powers. Just that. These powers do not fall in any one category. Examples are to far varied for one or two good examples.

H) Gods/Godesses. While yes The Gods are powerful, far beyond normal Magic, they are not necessarily Godmods. A God is the Magical equivalent of a Nuke. They are extremly formidible characters. They can be beaten, even destroyed forever, but that is quite a task, and usually is its own RP. A God can do a lot of things, but they are not God. Even God characters have their limits, and, if enough people post wanting me to explain further, I will start another thread explaining Gods. At least the way I RP them. Everybody knows the Classic Gods, but, to avoid upseting people, I recommend you make up your own.

So, let me know. I don't see alot of Magic on NS. Just post a reply saying what type of Magic you use, and how. Even if its just a single character.

I myself am in each category.

I'd say "magic" is ironically more prevalent among FT nations. I'm training my Prime Minister to be a Jedi right now. :D

I don't see how Force usage wouldn't be magic, and lots of FT nations use it.

Psionic magic actually steriotypicly manifests diffrently than the other types, which, usually manifest in a similar manner.

Warhaven, where do you think FF got its base in summoning? Happens in myth and legend all the time...just not normally in Greek myth and legend. It's more often seen in Native American and Celtic (Nordic) legend.

Don't forget lycanthropy, either. While not magick in and of itself, it is not "normal."

Magic is as much a part of Dar-Kavryn as the air and the soil, and pretty much everything there uses it in one way or another. I use mostly arcane and nature magic, but also a bit of psionics, summoning, and a few other varieties.

How would you classify inherent magical abilities?

Lycanthropy, for better or for worse, is also a classic power, and thus lumped into Arcane magic. Its possible among many tribes and civilizations for someone to become a Lycan. Just, their usually not seen as good. I've been learning about this stuff in a religions class.

Nature Magic, Psi, and ritual stuff mostly. Nothing overtly flashy or obvious (like High-powered spellcasting or pyrokinesis), and a lot of it's 'internal' to my nation and severely limited. I've mainly made it gene-linked with the ability as a recessive tied to double-'X' chromosome pairings. (i.e. only women have it, and in limited numbers)
