The Grand Imperium of Risban...

Risban City
The capital of the Risban Imperium was busy as usual. Home to nearly twenty-six million people, the capital was indeed the largest city in the empire. It served as the political, diplomatic, historic, and economical center of Risban. With sights such as the Grand Falls of Poseidon, the Risban River, the Monument of Lesath, the massive Imperial Palace Complex, and much more, Risban City was always full of tourists.

The people of Risban City were proud and content. Yes, the Imperium had suffered a small civil war and terrorist attacks, but Risban City would never be put in any immediate danger. With as many defenses as the capital had, foreign attack was nigh impossible without great warning. Even when Mount Pellonius had threatened to consume the Copmol Bay Area in its firing explosions, the people of Risban City remained sure that they would never be in any harm.

The Imperial Archaeological Society, Risban City- Geological Offices [9:07 A.M.]

Lord Alfred Octavius, chariman of the IAS, sighed as he was called down into the small geological offices. He had been busy getting things ready for the investigation of a secluded tribe (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=414427) recently discovered on a previously thought-to-be uninhabited island when he received a message from Professor Paul McFirdy.
Bloody geologists jumping every bloody time a little rock moves...
Even since the Mount Pellonius eruption, Risban geologists had been keeping a close eye on everything going on beneath the Imperium. Thus, when a seisometer began to move, they got excited.

"Ah, Lord Octavius. You're finally here," exclaimed Professor McFirdy, looking up from the graph he had been watching. "We're having several seismic anomalies..."
The IAS Chairman frowned and walked over, glancing at the screen. "And? I don't have all day, Professor."
"Well, we're picking up small earthquakes seven miles beneath the Imperial Opera Auditorium (http://www.whatsoninrome.com/images/v/auditorium.jpg)," said Paul. "It's quite unusual..."
"And how large are these quakes?"
"Well, the largest we've picked up is a 2.7, bu-"
"You call me down here for a two point seven on the richter scale?" asked Octavius angrily. "You've been down here too long. Go take a vacation, Professor."
"No! Wait," said McFirdy, grabbing Octavius before he could leave. "We believe that these quakes could increase in magnitude. We need to alert the Emperor's Office!"
"You're insane," scoffed Octavius. "There have never been seismic activities in Risban since people could write. This is absurd."
"Nobody predicted that Pellonius Hill would pop its top off either," countered Professor McFirdy.
"Professor, I don't have time for this. We're on the verge of making an extremely important discovery, and you're distracting me with 2.7 earthquakes taking place seven miles beneath a new and sturdy structure. Now, goodday!"
And with that, Lord Alfred Octavius returned to his office, leaving a disheartened geology professor behind.

The Imperial Opera Auditorium [1:41 P.M.]
Apart from the large theatre in the auditorium, the IOA also held an excellent restaurant, one of the best in Risban City. It was still currently packed with the lunch crowd.
Loius Beaudei, the restaurant manager, stood behind a counter, entering some credit cards that customers had used to pay their checks. He groaned, rubbing his head as one of the cards came up negative.
If bloody people paid attention to their finances...
Beaudei took the check and walked out from behind the counter, heading towards the customer with the useless credit card. Loius frowned, stumbling as he walked. Surely I didn't trip over anything...
And surely he was not the only one who felt it either. People all over the restaurant looked around with perplexed looks on their faces. They turned to looks of fear as the ground began to shake violently. Screams erupted from within and without the auditorium.
Louis shrieked, dropping what he was holding as he dove under a table. The lights in the restaurant flickered out and the building began to shake even more. No, not shake... Move. Sink.
The building was falling apart. The northern wall had fallen, and the roof began to slide off. A large crack began to form beneath the auditorium. Within minutes, the auditorim had completely collapsed, a large peice of concrete flattening Monsieur Beaudei.

Imperial Palace-- The Press Chambers [1:43 P.M.]
Emperor Robinson Antares Scorpius sighed as he awaited the next question at his press conference (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=8749826) for the international community. This was his fourth conference since he took control of the Imperium, and it was going much easier than he had expected it to be.
Reporters from N Y C and Arckum both stood up and asked questions at the same time, making it hard for the emperor to decipher what they said. After finally figuring it out, he wished that he didn't. Finally the hard questions. Scorpius turned towards the Arckum reporter.
"Well, we have declared full--"
High Guards burst into the conference room, rushing towards the emperor. "Sir, down!"
"What is going on here?" cried Scorpius, obviously perplexed and annoyed. His answer was nothing more than a push under a nearby table, several High Guards dogpiling him and forming a wall. Then the building began to shake. Reporters scrambled, ducking whereever they could or fleeing from the building. News cameras and chairs toppled over, and the diamond chandelier fell from the ceiling, shattering.
It was over in sixteen seconds. The High Guards got off of their emperor and helped him up, dusting him off. He was obviously agitated.
"Bloody hell... An earthquake? Summon my advisory council and the ministers. Have Julia prepare a statement for me," he ordered, stumbling out of the Press Room. "And get me Lord Octavius!"

The Imperial Archaeological Society-- Geological Offices [1:53 P.M.]
The Imperial Palace had not suffered as much damage as the Opera Auditorium, which was now a pile of rubble and ash. A small fault had appeared beneath the auditorium.
Professor McFirdy had crawled out from beneath his desk as soon as the ground stopped shaking. He checked his seismometer, eyes widening. It had registered as a 7.5 beneath the auditorium. Imperial Palace picked up reading of only a 5.4 on their richter scales.
Signs showed that it was not the end.

There was a knock on the door, and Alfred Octavius stumbled in. Professor McFirdy grinned. "Believe me now, sir?"
The IAS chairman glared at Paul, waving a hand. "Yes, yes... Prepare your team and statistics. We have a meeting with Emperor Scorpius and the Council of Ministers."

RINN Broadcast, 2:00 P.M.
This is Cris Peyla of the Risban Imperial News Network. As most of you in central Risban City no doubt felt, we suffered from an earthquake not even twenty minutes ago. Readings as high as a 7.5 were recorded. The Imperial Opera Auditorium was completely destroyed. Rescue teams have been called in and are searching for survivers. Power has gone out in residential areas between fourty-second and sixty-third streets. Several fires have started, but teams are responding to those quickly.
The Emperor has yet to make a statement. We will keep you updated as things progress, and will now be giving a special program on earthquake preparation and safety....
