OOC: Lets give it up for the n00bs

all I hear is complants about n00bs, we go on there first threads and tear them apart, we arn't nice to them at all. whenever one of them tries anything we beat them down.

I think that we should not look at them as underlings and below us as I know some people do (No I won't name names), I think that we should look on them as the new generation of Rpers, latly I've seen a huge amount of new talent coming through, Caladdon (SP), Feline Catfish (SP), Knor (Look you know I can't spell) and many, many others are all names I've seen recently who have RP talent and ability thats a lot better than many vets.

So I say that we should help the new players, not tear into them when they make a mistake, okay there are some who dosn't learn but many, many will.

Agreed. A newb would be someone who's new, while a n00b is someone with, well... they're trolls and idiots.

Yes I agree, but FC is pretty fair, the only problem is that he refuses help, forom mopre expirenced RPer's. He also refuses to use these GDP claculators, whcih are extremly helpful, if you just use them.

I heartily agree. Not just new rpers in general, but also those switching between world types, such as MT to FT and such.

I 'really' think that those that have post numbers up past 1,000 plus, tend to look down on other younger nations, pick on them, all too readily forgetting that they were noobs once as well.

EVERYONE is a noob at some point, in someplace, and somewhere. Period. Hell, we all were BORN once, and that's as noob as you can get!

And using all those snazzy third party sides such as NSEconomy and such, tends to give larger nations an excuse to swat down newer nations, simply because they can look at their NSEconomy page and such, and then say. 'You can't do that, haha, I can beat you easily.'

For all those that do that blindly, remember the ancient adage of the fisherman.

There's always someone bigger and stronger out there to kick your butt. Or something like that. Cockiness and plain slamming of newb nations that don't realize better, don't have a justifiable excuse. They just put themselves as elitists, and if there's anything more than I hate, it's an elitist.

Give the newb nations a chance to learn, not kill them outright. Either they'll learn and stay, or just leave anyway.

Surely you mean we were all newbs; not everyone is a n00b. ALl thats needed is to follow the rules, be courteous and have a good time; thats what this game is all about, having fun :)

I'd happily help any new nation, assuming they were willing to learn and had potential to do great things :)

NSEconomy is good. Like you said everybody is Newbe at one time. so the newebs will have to deal with beung small just like the rst of us did when we were small. it's likle being a freshamn and aspiring to be a senior, eventually you'll become one.

Feline Catfish (SP)

please take this name off the list (since he has managed to bring the world to the brink of war)

I am getting tired of you people one alliance protecting so called "newbies" is enough you don't have to expand the whole catfish thing anymore (the way he’s going he will probly be deleted)

New RP'rs, especially ones that show potential, should be encouraged. Everyone was new once, so don't immediately dismiss a newbie. I remember I thought I was so great a few months after I started. Now I look how far I've come, and I still see how much more I can improve.

I havn't seen him do anything wrong, it's free form RP and if he dosn't break any rules then he's fine.

Example of anoying newb/borderline n00b.

Agreed. A newb would be someone who's new, while a n00b is someone with, well... they're trolls and idiots.

Example of newb/potential good RP'er.

Anyway, I am kind to people willing to learn, showing promise but not against people like CTP, with skulls as thick as concrete. I suggest you go read a few stickies and stay out of the FC stuff, since you mean nothing, your word holds no weight and you can't make a difference. Get used to it, if you want to make some kind of difference, you need respect, and you need to earn that by working hard and producing good stories. Something I haven't seen from you, just baseless trolling about FC this, FC that, FC ate my dog, blah blah blah. How about you drop the entire FC thing and go participate in some other RP's so you can learn how to RP before you plunge yourself into the deep and get killed of IC'ly by somebody like AMF, and if he won't do it, I will.

Now kindly stop trolling about FC, go find something original, thank you.

Feline Catfish didn't intimidate other nations, but made a few initial mistakes, which is understandable as a newcomer. A horde of other nations immediately loomed in demanding this, that, and a few other things. FC issued a warning that, when it wasn't heeded, he carried out. Then he started making outrageous claims, which are understandable given the circumstances she faced. Given time, he may be able to discern who are his allies and which nations are his foes.

In the meantime, if you don't like the way he plays, ignore him or play nice.

And despite what people might think, yes, I do remember what it was like to be a newcomer. I hadn't, and haven't the requisite RPing skills to make a name for myself, so I kept my head down and observed, contributing where I could. I've helped newcomer-nations when I've been able and they've been willing. Those newbs that haven't been so promising, I've let pass their merry way either into oblivion or into a better understanding of the game.

Why do you keep calling me "she"? I can understand it in character, because nations, ships etc are referred to as "she", but ooc... I never said I was female. ???

Feline Catfish, I guess they assumed it from the feline in your name.

What a coincidence, here on the thread about newb appreciation, we have our very own newb!

I completely agree with this thread, and most of the things people have said. By the way, does anyone have any advice for someone starting to RP who will listen to advice?
Snake Eaters
02-05-2005, 14:56
Sure I'll give you advice. The best I can give you is to keep it realistic, and don't god-mod. Dip into everything (diplomacy, war etc) and find what type suits you best (character RP, Dialogue RP, Action RP, or even a combo of the above). And be willing to loose. You lose with grace, people will respect you more than if you refuse to go down (that was my cardinal sin when I first started)

Whats your tech base?
Spolotikopia
02-05-2005, 15:55
Well, Spolotikopia is based on the premise that it was founded by people with Amish beliefs long ago, and the people had made no technological advancements and completely forgot about the developing world around them. Then they became one nation, with ancient tech, but they are struggling to find their way in the modern world. So I am currently ancient tech, but I would RP with any tech, and I am planning on modernizing my nation slowly. So I'm not really a specific tech.

I see. Well, you will struggle in RP until your nation is modernised. Actually, I will help you. Being an FT nation, I have some MT stuff that I no longer use, like sea-based naval assets.

I wouldn't say you're unskilled about RPing. I learned a lot about this game from watching you and looking to you as an example of what to do as a NSer. I wouldn't be half the RPer I am if it weren't for the example you set.

I'm more than willing to take a newb nation under my wing if that newb shows willingness to learn and honestly wants to RP well. That's why I joined the Roleplay School (http://s6.invisionfree.com/RoleplaySchool) founded by Sanctaphrax and Hogsweat. That's why I and other RPers (such as Euroslavia) create threads where we try to help fellow RPers out.

Y'know, I was lucky. Back when I first started, Jummanistra agreed to do my first RP, a war RP. Even though I heavily godmodded, he went along with it, and we had fun, and I learned alot.

Now, there are many new players who, because they are new, veteran NSers who have had problems with newbies before automatically assume that the latest batch is all evil. Just remember everyone, we were all beginners at one point. The best we can do is raise a new generation of RPers, and show by example (reference, TFU). Perhaps we won't get the problematic experienced RPers if we teach the new ones well.

I've been RP'ing with a few new talents recently (Qakukaki and Total Victory) and I must say these people get none or less of replys. It's like everyone thinks: "Oh, there's a name I don't know. It must be a nOOb, I'm not even watching."
