With the acquisition of territories in the pacific and land in Africa, the UPR needed lands where its forces could refuel and rest and resupply along the way.

Battle Island 1, the WBI Brezhnekov was sent with a brigade to seize the Commorros while WBI Smokey Robinson was sent to seize the Keelings.

Each battle island contains: 3,000 troops and 150 F35's

Though its on the other side of the world, action was also being taken from Grenada. Forces were being moved from Grenada to Antigua, Barbuda, Dominica and Anguilla. This was a move to secure Grenada from foriegn attack and expand trade opportunities. A small contingent of 20,000 troops were charged with taking these islands.
They moved via small patrol boats and transport helicopters.

150 F35's from WBI Brezhnekov have begun flying cover over the Comorros as landing ships and 3,000 troops prepare to leave the Battle Island to invade the island chain just north of Madagascar.

There was unexpected protest of the intended Whittier landing coming from Comorran locals.

Meantime, the WBI Smokey Robinson is closing in on its target, the Keeling Islands.

In other news all operations in the Carribean have been called off as the government lacks the resources and has more important priorities at the moment.

Noting the delicate strategic position that Whittier finds itself in and the weakness of its logistics and deployment capability the government announced that it would build 4 more battle islands and 25 submersible troop carriers. Meantime a new air troop carrier is being developed to replace the C141's.

OOC: since there isn't any one to rp some resistance on the islands, I am going to give it a shot.

IC: In the Comoron capital of Moroni, frightened local people took to the streets in protest of the Whittier invasion.
People protested chanting Comoros for the Comorans. Death to all forigners.
But the islanders were actually divided. With half the populace looking forward to the arrival of foreign troops.
"We hope they will do something about the gangs and maurading criminals" said one woman.

Meantime, a tall lanky, suspicious looking man with a patch over one eye, who calls himself DJ Shark, took issue with the deployment of Whittier forces to his island. "We do not need stinking foreigners here. We, the Kutmangoes, are in charge. What you call protection money we call taxes. If someone don't payup, we are justified in either killing them or raping their daughters."
The leader of the Kutmangoes, a group akin to the violent criminal mobs that most nations have to deal with on their lands, Aki Sumaki, had this to say:
"If Whittier come here, we send them back in body bags. Comoros and everyone living on them is my personal property to do with as I see fit. We don't like any foreigners here, (holds up decapitated head of dead Wirrawayan citizen) and points to the headless body stuck on a spike up the beach). This will be the fate of foreigners coming here.
We're not like making threats or anything. But see, foreigners stick their noses where they don't belong like this missionary guy did. And you see what happened to him. Of course, his wife will be forcibly raped then sold as a sex slave. That is our law."

In response to threats from an alleged local criminal gang, Brezhnekov had this to say on the situation in the Comoros.
"We will not be intimidated by criminal thugs. We are in the Comoros to bring peace and justice. Those responsible for violent crimes and other atrocities will be brought to justice.
The fact that they displayed the head and decapitated body of a non Comoran in a threatening gesture shows just what kind of people we are dealing with. Nothing more than mobsters and there reign of terror on the Comoros is coming to an end. I have ordered Whittier troops to seek out and arrest Kutmangoe leader Aki Sumaki on the charge violation of human rights, mafiaism, mass rape, torture, dealing in human trafficking, and other crimes."

In addition to their usual extortionist smackdowns of the civilians in the Comoros, the Kutmangoes are now issuing death threats and warnings against people cooperating with UPR forces that just hours away.
As an example to others, a 28 year old businessman in the town of Mbeni, was dragged out of his business at gun point, brutally beaten with clubs and then shot execution style. His crime? Openly expressing his desire that the UPR forces do something about the thugs running rampant on the island. The Kutmangoes and their leader Aki Sumaki were not the least bit pleased. They have begun dragging people from their businesses and homes to beat them senseless in an attempt to force people to turn against the foriegners.
One local, looking fearfully at a car in which a Kutmangoe was sitting, said he didn't want any foreigners here and that the Kutmangoes were God's gift to the world.

Meantime, on the WBI Brezhnekov, troops are making final preparations to land on these islands and bring law and order to them.

The 15th Whittier expeditionary force has made its much ballyhooed landing on the Comoros this morning. First stepping off the landing craft and on to the beaches at approximately 0620, on the main island of Grande Comore the troops immediately laid down a defensive perimeter.
So far the Kutmangoes, for all their threats, seem to have faded into the jungle.
The 15th is charged with taking the entire island chain, which located between Africa and Madagascar, an island shared by Whittier and Vineyard.
Small task forces have left WBI Brezhnekov for the islands of Anjouan and Moheli. Those islands should be secured by the end of the day.
They are uncertain about Grande Comore however, where the Kutmangoes have threatened violence against both troops and civilians. There are now 1,000 troops on the island to help secure the island. And 500 a peice on the other two islands.

The Islands of Moheli and Anjouan were taken with no resistance.
It appeared to be the case with Grande Comore as well.

Things on the main island went downhill however, when a member of the Kutmangoes, caught in the act of extorting a local was seized and arrested along with his group. A gun battle ensued as the mobsters attempted to get away. But they were badly outnumbered.

The following morning, 3 UPR soldiers were felled when they were ambushed by Katmungoes in the jungle.
34 others were wounded when a car bomb went off outside a nightclub, killing and maiming 245 civilians.

The reaction was swift. Martial Law was declared all over the island. Within an hour an arrest warrant had been issued for every member of the Kutmangoes, especially their leader. Troops were brought in from the other 2 islands to assist in the manhunt. In the first 48 hours, 456 members of the Kutmangoes had been seized. But the hunt for the main group and the leader continued, to no avail.

The Kutmangoes, for their part, vowed the death of all foreign forces and everyone who collaborated with them.

In a major gun battle, today, in the south of the main island, the leader of the Kutmangoes was killed. 212 of his followers were killed or injured, 89 were captured, and the remaining 43 fled into the jungle.
The campaign to oust a ruthless gang of thugs having succeeded, the UPR forces settled down and began to reconstruct the island. Fortunately, no aircraft had to be used.

The following day, the Whittier flag was hoisted in the Comoros capital.

General George Frankfurt was solemnly sworn in as the military governor of Comoros territory today.
After the swearing in, the Governor General promised to rebuild the economy and infrasture of the islands.
Meantime, soldiers are at work modernizng the harbor and airport.

The Defense Minister needed to send more troops to help those already there. The Secretary General wanted the islands' economy brought up to par with Whittier proper and he wanted more troops on the island to assist in building the required infrastructure. The wars in the persian gulf and Phillippines were going to need the extra troops that could be spared. Enough had to be left home for homeland defense.
There was nothing happening in Madagascar. How many troops were there? He looked it up on the command system: 40,000.
He picked up the sat phone and called the commander of Whittier forces in Madagascar. By tomorrow, 10,000 troops from Madagascar would be transferring from Madagascar to the Comorros, bringing total troop levels there to 13,000 from 3,000.
