In Viconia City today, a new era in mass transit has dawned with the begining of Avcen Jetpod AeroTaxi services in the capitol of the Democratic Colonies. Viconia City, like many other large city centres around the world, has severe traffic and transit needs that are nearly impossible to meet using normal means. Viconia City has the premire mass transit system in the Colonies, with buses and underground subway trains arriving at stops throughout the city nearly once a minute in some locations, while automotive commuters can travel on elevated roadways and underground highways on a network designed for optimal efficiency throughout the city. Inspite of this however, the capitol of the Colonies has continued to suffer from traffic congestion and gridlock. Today however, with the begining of Avcen Jetpod Taxi services, Viconia is expected to become the easiest city for travel in the entirety of the Democratic Colonies.
The Avcen Jetpod (http://www.avcen.com/) is the creation of Avcen Limited, and is a short range, low speed, low cost aircraft designed especially for the needs of urban environments in today's hyper-populated cities. Capable of take-off and landing from runways only 125 metres in length, runways for the Avcen Jetpod are placed without any difficulty alongside roadways in the city, and also ontop of highrising structures and other elevated surfaces, while it's passenger capability of eight is optimal for its role as a general purpose aerotaxi. The Avcen Jetpod Aerotaxis entering service can reach crusing speeds of 350 miles per hour, combined with its operational cost of less than 700 US dollars per hour, allow the aerotaxi service of the city to remain economically feasible for all long term operations.
The Avcen Jetpod Aerotaxis of Viconia have had thier human pilots replaced by remote computer systems which allow a groundbased network to manage all flight controls, allowing for greater security and protection against hijacking, as well as better flight safety. Due to the lack of human operators onboard however, payment for flights is only available through credit, debit, bank and pre-payed transit cards.
The Colonial Government, working with Avcen Limited, hope to expand Avcen Jetpod Aerotaxi service to all other major metropolitan centres in the Democratic Colonies by next year.
