Background:
The island now known as Nascent was founded in 1512 by the Italian explorer, Francisco Dantini, who was working for the Spanish crown when the four ships of Dantini’s party were blown off course by a severe storm and eventually ended up near Nascent. Claiming the island for Spain, the soldiers set up a small settlement on the island, all the while fighting frequent raids by the natives and diseases such as malaria and dysentery. In 1513 a contingent of three hundred British marines landed on the north end of the island and, with the aid of the natives, drove southward toward the Spanish settlement there, eventually driving them off the island.
The island was renamed to New Scotland and remained a British Province until 1827, when the people of Nascent, keen on world events, pushed for the King of England to grant them their independence or else be faced with another revolution. Fearful of being humiliated even more so than the American colonies did in both the American Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 the English Crown granted the people of the island their freedom.
Shortly thereafter a diplomatic convoy from the United States sailed across the Straight of Nascent and assisted with the drafting of a constitution. In the constitution there were provisions for a diplomatic government, a provision for changing the name of the nation to Nascent, its current name, and for the abolishment of the slave trade by 1850. The constitution was soon discarded by a powerful land owner from the southern tip of the island named Peter Oliver, who claimed to be the ruler of Nascent.
The Oliver family ruled up until 2004 when King Richard Oliver was assassinated by a woman claiming to be the fabled Cacifica the Bloody, the last tribal leader of the two largest clans that once resided on the island. Cacifica ruled for only four years when she vanished, leaving behind a draft of a constitution, which if passed by the people in their first democratic elections in nearly two centuries, will put into place a democratic government under the supervision of the United States and Great Britain.

Economy
Overview: Nascent’s economy is dominated by the agricultural sector, but the recent population rise and the continued growth of major industrial and port centers has begun transforming Nascent into a technologically advanced center of commerce. While the majority of the technology used in production processes was acquired from the United States and other major Western European powers before their eventual collapse, researchers in Nascent have begun making several advancements in the agricultural sector as well as the industrial sector. The influx of technology in the production process has increased the average citizen’s style of living, but has also created job shortages as more and more production processes have become automated.
