Due to the establishment of new mines and refineries in our northern territory, and a desire to build up our industrial base and be able to expand our military industries, Her Majesty Queen Latia the first has decreed that a new assault rifle which will replace the aging AK-47 design be introduced to service, and will be issued out as the standard issue weapon.

The first step in choosing the new rifle is to choose the caliber, 5.56mm NATO, 7.62mmx39mm, 5.45mm soviet, and the 5.8mm chinese rounds are being considered, and any input from the international community regarding which round should be selected would be welcome. At present, the most likely choice is the 7.62mm due to large stockpiles of the round in the Royal Armies, and 7.62mm factories that already produce it.

Antiian Armaments has improved an older design they had created and submitted it to the Ministry of Defence for approval, and it has been approved and will also be available for export should anyone want it.

RAR-1

The RAR-1 (Royal Antiian Rifle) is the first homegrown assault weapon in the Queendom. It was originally created by upstart company Antiian Armaments, created by a former Royal Guardsman, and was submitted to the Ministry of Defence but was rejected on the basis that the armed forces were not seeking to replace the AK-47.

The weapon is internally very similar to the AK, and as such is cheap and easy to manufacture, can be easily used and maintained by Antiia's largely conscription based army, and uses the same type of ammo of which considerable stockpiles exist.

The weapon is constructed with some plastic, and mounts an iron sight with an optional optical sight (present issue is a 3x optical sight issued to Royal guardsmen on the RAR-1G, regular army does have a number of cheaper 2x sights of decent quality), a bayonet can be fixed to the barrel, and under barrel grenade launchers are available.

OOC: by pointing out this rifle, I'm assuming you are offering to sell it?

Subject: Procurement of AK-109s
Message:
I would like to extend my gratitude to you for pointing out this fine assault weapon, and we would like to procure several thousand models for our Royal Guard forces, relegating the RAR-1 to use by our main conscript force.

OOC: Personally, I'd suggest 5.56mm NATO because of its interchangability and effectiveness.

When you say you already use 7.62 i am assumign you mean 7.62x39mm Soviet/russian?

If so then if you want a real imporvement you might want to try looking at intermeidate roudns such as 7mm(.280) british, 7x49mm FN/Ven, 6.25mm british, 6.5mm grendal, 6.8mm SPC etc.
IF you woudlr ahter not go down that road you would be aswells tickign to 7.62mm soviet as opposed to changing to 5.56mm

OOC: yeah, its the 7.62x39mm soviet, the plan is that the present RAR-1, and possibly a rifle that I'll buy off someone for the elite Royal guards will be the mainstay for a number of years, then we'll switch to a basic C7/C7A1, and move from there to the C7A2, and then on to the XM-8, and then a custom rifle using a round between the 5.56 and 7.62

Looks like a good way to go for a more historical feel.

it coudl be streamlined a bit
RAR-1>C7A1>C7A2>C7 with HK M4 upper/receiver(C7A6?)>C7A6 with new barrel/upper to use intermediate round (C7A8?)

Just a though to take advantage of the modular nature of the C7/C8/M16/AR15 family
