Pintopia defends missile sales to Ekima
Thu Apr 28,10:45 AM ET
Senator John McBain, on a historic visit to The Republic of Zeketown, defended Pintopia's planned sale of anti-aircraft missiles to Zeketown, insisting that they would pose no danger to the Pintopian state.
"The system we are going to supply to Zeketown is short range and poses no threat whatsoever to our territory," Senator McBain told a news conference after talks with Zekian Dictator Zeke III.
Pintopia's planned sale of the military equipment to Zeketown is one of the principle bones of contention between the Senatorial Arms Committee and the House of Representatives chair on Peace , which could threaten to overshadow the first ever visit by a Pintopian leader to the Zeketown.
Senator McBain acknowledged there were "disagreements" between the Senate and the House on the planned sale of the anti-aircraft missiles, which he said "risked reducing Pintopia's's abilities to fight terrorism".
Senator McBain also pointed out that "We are not planning to do anything that would upset the balance of forces in the region."
"There were discussions of what our military had intended to deliver, including to Zeketown, the latest rocket system, the PIN437" he said. "But I forbade the sale to other areas, so you cannot say we are acting irresponsibly -- quite the opposite."
According to the Pintopian government the short-range PIN437 missiles would arm a friendly neighbour and would not fall into the hands of militants.
Pintopia says it has the right to sell weapons and that the PIN437's are of a purely defensive nature.
