Samotopia: A Nation in Chaos (part one, invite only)

OOC:This is my first Major RP. My plans are to have a 3 part RP. The first part is going to have President Sam-O leave because A law won’t get passed that Same-Sex Marriage should be legal. So he gets mad and becomes an ambassador to Sarzonia. This one will end with a new President being elected. What I would like all of you to do is to support Sam-O and try to push the law to be passed or to keep it illegal. I’ll explain the second and third part when I start them. TG me if you would like to be invovled.

IC: For weeks now President Sam-O of Samotopia had been very testy. Only 3 people knew why. One of them being Vice President Frogg. The reason being that The legalization of Same Sex marriage would not be passed. When ever Frogg tried to talk with Sam-O, he just mumbled and walked away.

Sam-O had locked himself in his office as much as possible. He would think about what to do. He would get frustrated, and some times hit walls. He would also look to trusted friends for help. The main one being President Mike Sarzo from Sarzonia. But one day he wasn’t looking for help. He was looking for support of his final decision. He was going to leave Samotopia. He simple could not put up with it any more. So he picked up the phone and dialed the nimber to Sarzo’s office.

Sarzo was sitting in his office drinking a cup of Imperium Cola imported from Sarzonia's newly minted neighbours in Praetonia.

"Damn this is good stuff," Sarzo said, punctuating the comment with a loud belch. Executive Secretary to the President Becky Davis rolled her eyes at Sarzo, who looked up sheepishly at Davis.

"Sorry Beck," Sarzo said.

"Here's that report you wanted on the Inkanan Civil War."

"Thanks."

Sarzo started flipping through the report as Davis walked away, still muttering about Sarzo's unpresidential noise. Before he got too far into the report, the so-called Bat Phone rang.

"Who the hell," Sarzo muttered out loud. "If it's Ferdinand Joseph, I'm going to freak."

"Sarzo." It wasn't Ferdinand Joseph. It was Sam-O.

Sam-O started to explain the sitiuation to Sarzo. When he was nearly finished he took a deep breath and blurted out.::

Sam-O: I'm leaving Samotopia and if it were alright with i'd like to become ambassodor to Sarzonia.::He sat there waiting for a few seconds then continued.:: And i'd really like your support on this.

Sarzo raised his eyebrow as he listened to Sam-O.

Wait, don't they already have an ambassador, he thought. But more important was the sudden decision by a longtime national leader to suddenly give up his post.

"Wait a minute, Sam-O, aren't you being a little rash? What's going on over there that makes you suddenly want to leave Samotopia?"

Sarzo waited for the answer, though he was sure he knew what it was. It was an issue that Sarzo himself wrestled with and came upon a compromise solution that he didn't like but was the only one the major churches in Sarzonia would accept.

He looked at the picture of First Partner Jay Tyler and sighed. He remembered how disappointed he was that he couldn't marry the man he loved in his own country. A gay marriage bill died in committee in the House of Delegates and his own Senior Vice President for Internal Affairs, his dear friend Nicole Lewis, was opposed to gay marriage. He also knew that if he took advantage of Parliament's impending recess to declare gay marriage in effect via an executive order, the Senate would begin impeachment proceedings and it would definitely go to the House of Delegates for the vote.

Something's going on over there, Sarzo thought at last. For Sam-O to want to leave his country and become the ambassador to Sarzonia, something must be seriously wrong over there. He wondered if Sam-O's answer would give him a clue to exactly what the problem was.

Sam-O waited for a few seconds and went on.::

Sam-O: It's just getting frustrating...Whenever I turn on the news I see headlines such as "Gay-bashing rampage",:: He pauses for a minute and then continues.:: I can't stand it any more. Ever since I first ran for Presidency, I always pushed for Gay rights. Well that’s one of the reasons I almost lost. And whenever I see that some one has killed a gay man or woman…I always send some type of letter to their family.:: He tried to figure what the right words would be to finish. He searched his mind until he found what he wanted.:: So in other words, I’m really getting pissed. I can't stand it any more...I need time away. And the only place I feel like going to is Sarzonia.

"Well, you're welcome to stay at the Robert VI House here in Woodstock," Sarzo said. "I think you need a long vacation and Woodstock would be a good place for you to get away from it all. Perhaps you can catch a concert at the Max Yasgur Center or see our national team play its next World Cup qualifier if you want to go to Portland to see them face Nova Mercia. You could go as my guest."

Sarzo waited for Sam-O's response, hoping that he hadn't already resigned the Presidency. The Robert VI House was intended for world leaders as a guest house sitting across the street from the Gray House. If Sam-O already turned in his resignation, he would not be allowed by Sarzonian law to stay at the house unless Sarzo signed an executive order. With Parliament about to go into recess, he knew that every one he issued received intense scrutiny once Parliament resumed sessions.

He knew that Parliament likely wouldn't be an obstacle to Sam-O staying in the Robert VI House, but he didn't want to take any more chances than were necessary. He already had to deal with those when the negotiations with Hamptonshire's Grand Duke Reginald Leopold I resulted in an agreement that saw some of the anti-Hamptonshire hawks in Parliament howl in protest.

Sam-O: It's not just a vacation. I'm Leaving Samotopia for good. I'm resigning tomorrow. ::Sam-O knew he had to tell his cabinet members before tomorrow. He just didn’t know what to say to them. Most of them would try to go with him. But they couldn’t. If they went also…the country would be left with nothing. Frogg had to become the new President. But Sam-O thought. Is he up to it…can he handle it by himself? He continued:: I’ll see you soon Mike...::He hung up the phone and started to think of his word to use with his cabinet members.::

OOC: Please feel free to TG me if you'd like to get invovled. I thought i just might mention that again.

IC:Sam-O was still thanking when Frogg knocked on the door.::

Sam-O: Its unlocked.

Frogg: I’m surprised it is…you’ve had yourself locked in here nearly every day for the past 3 weeks.

Sam-O: Frogg…What would you do if you had to become the President?

Frogg just sat there blankly. He didn’t know what to say. He doubted that time would have to come. But he answered any way.:: Well…umm. I guess I’d do the job I am told to do. But why are you asking…I’ll never become President?

Sam-O: I have hundreds of memories as President. But none of them matter any more. What matters is that I don’t go crazy. I can’t stay here very much longer. I’m resigning tomorrow.

Frogg stood there with his jaw hanging to the ground. He couldn’t believe it. One of the most beloved Presidents was just going to leave. He didn’t know how to respond to that. But he tried his best.:: What!?! Why!?! If its because of the whole Same Sex marriage not becoming legal then I think you’re crazy.

Sam-O: Am I Frogg? Well let me tell you something. One of my best friends is gay. Did you know that?

Frogg: Yes I did know that. Now why the hell are you taking this out on me.

Sam-O: Because Frogg. You’re here. And I’ll make it well known tomorrow to the public that they are egotistical assholes who don’t understand SHIT!

Frogg: Fine. Do you care if I tell every one else?

Sam-O: Go right ahead.:: He sat down and spun his chair around so he was facing the window. It was clear that he was done talking to Frogg.::

Frogg walked out of Sam-O's office. He went straight to Red 13's office. On the way He say Defence Minister Mel Ausa and Head of Environmental Care Mia Ausa. He waited for them to notice the look on his face. Mia noticed first.::

Mia: What’s wrong?

Frogg: We have a damn problem thats what’s wrong.

Mia/Mel: What’s wrong?

Frogg: Follow me.:: He started walking towards Red 13's office again. He was angry with Sam-O...but he was taking it out on everyone else. He didn't know why...but he felt like Sam-O had betrayed him. Frogg didn't want to become the President. He just wanted to stay Vice-President. He didn't know what to do. Mel and Mia were worried. They couldn't remember the last time Frogg had been so angry. They knew something was about to happen that was going to destroy something. Along the way the ran into Press Tilton, Sam-O's most trusted advisor, Alison Sharpy, Head of the Medical Department. They too were told to follow. When the five of them reached Red 13's office they went in. Frogg just walked over to the window. Red 13 was puzzled. He turned to the other 4 and gave them a look. The all just shrugged. When Frogg finally spoke, It sounded as if he were crying.::

Frogg: We have a huge Problem... Sam-O is leaving.:: The other five froze they couldn't say a thing. And almost immediately after He was done being shocked, He pulled out some wine, poured some into a glass, and handed it to Frogg.::

Red 13: Why is he leaving and where is he going?:: Frogg explained everything as calmly as he could. When he finished, Press Tilton just shook his head. He said,::

Press: We can’t talk him out of it can we?

Frogg: Nope…

Press: Damn…You’re affected the most.

Frogg: Nooo…really…thanks for pointing that one out for me.:: Frogg took a big drink of the wine and then left the room leaving the others to stand there speechless.::

The Next Day

Sam-O Had already written his resignation speech. He was slightly surprised that no one had tried to stop him. But he didn’t care. He was glad he didn’t have to fight with anyone. At about 1:00 pm he sat at his desk awaiting the moment he had to tell his people, that he was no longer their President.::

Camera Man1: We’re ready Mr. President.

Sam-O: Thank you.

Camera man2: In 5...4...3...2...1...

Sam-O: Good afternoon People of Samotopia. I am sitting here because I bare bad news for some…and good news for others. And beforehand, I have made this decision because I feel it is best for all of us. It is best for me because I will no longer have to deal with the problems in Samotopia. It is best for you because I am would be a grouch, and taken it out on you peoples if I had not made my decision. My Decision is that I am resigning as The President of Samotopia. I will miss this nation for few reasons. But surely I will miss it. Good bye people of Samotopia. ::At this point he stood up and walked away.::

I must press how much of a shock it is to see a president of a country resigning to take a lower position as a representative to another country. Regardless, we wish Sam-O the best in his new position as Ambassador to Sarzonia and express our desire, even without him in power, to see the same-sex marriage legislation passed to continue the progressivity of Samotopian society.

Sarzo looked at the press conference on his television set with First Partner Tyler sitting beside him. When Sam-O announced his decision to resign, Tyler squeezed Sarzo's hand as he saw the look of shock cross Sarzo's face.

"Looks like we'll have to get the embassy quarters cleaned up," Sarzo said.

"He can stay at the Robert VI House for a few days, can't he?"

"I just checked. No more than six days without an exemption approved by both houses of Parliament."

"That'll at least let him get settled."

"Good point, Jay. I suppose I need to make an announcement since he's coming here." Sarzo got up and walked toward the press room. Tyler did something he only did once previously. He followed Sarzo to the podium.

"Today, the duly elected President of Samotopia has announced his resignation as that country's leader. We express our sadness that it has come to that, but we welcome Sam-O into Sarzonia with open arms.

"It is a sad commentary on the state of affairs our world is in that acceptance of people with different sexual orientations is so far from being a global reality. We are sorely disappointed that the nation of Samotopia has chosen to travel the road of intolerance instead of the enlightened path of true equality.

"However, we are prepared to accept Sam-O as the ambassador to Sarzonia and will prepare the Samotopian embassy for him."
