(OOC: I thought it would be fun to have an RP about the creation of nations. You know, like you start out as little barbarians or whatnot and work your way up. I will allow one act of god in this RP, and that's to create your people if you don't feel like taking the scientific way of evolving from the primitive man. This RP will go on as long as people are still interested in it, but at the beggining, strictly past tech(swords and whatnot). You can RP the history of your nation or just make one up that is nothing like your nations history, but I'm making it so we are all on the same planet. However, I will allow you to create your own landscape and such. The last rule is no skipping ahead. You can't be like "Ya, everything advanced quickly and now we have space ships and stuff" actually RP getting to that level. So, anyone interested?)

IC:

The Gods looked down upon the new land they had created, and decided to fill it with life. Animals were made, but more importantly, the Taledonian people were created. They weren't very educated as the god Jupiter, the protector of Taledonia, wanted his children to grow and learn on their own. He did however, give them the knowledge to make fire, build tools, raise livestock, farm, cut wood, mine, and build simple housing. The very things needed to create a thriving civilization.

The Taledonians were put onto the planet at a spot perfect for their needs. It was right by a fertile river, surrounded by high pine trees and beatiful mountain ranges with snow caps. The river itself ran down from the mountains giving fresh, cool water before it dipped into the sea not too far away. The land was mainly flat grassland near the river, with the exception of seven hills.

The people immeadiatly set to work when they realized their surroundings. There was 45 of them in total.

...and so Hades and Loki looked down on the empty land, they were ready to create life. Hades loved pain and deception, so in his hand, he crafted the mind of a merchant, but he also placed in greed. Loki, the prankster, made them strange and deformed, but unusually strong. They placed their hands together and shot a ball of fire down at the land, and suddenly, they were there. They looked relatively human, with light skin, fingers, toes, and other human-esque features, but, Loki had made their heads strangely large, red, one-eyed and round, with small horns peaking up above the tops of their heads. The strange creatures stepped foreward, learning began.

They dubbed themselves the Cacomen, after a mythical creature they created called the Cacodemon, and construction began. They lived in yurts, small tents stitched from animal hides and leaves. The Cacomen made clothing, food, and trade. They had a flaw though, they had seperated into tribes, most of the tribes were taken for "Outskirters" and warred with eachother constantly, the biggest Tribe, the Shub 'Niggaruth, was also the most social, they tried to bring the tribes together under the word of prophet, Azrael. The tribes had not responded, but word had come of, New Beings, Non-Cacomen! The Cacomen mounted, and set off, the prophet in their ranks, they set off to find, the others...

After constructing crewed wooden mallets and spikes, a few of the men went to the mountain ranges to try and break some of the rock of so they could make better tools; while the woman went over and started constructing fires and hearding the cows and other animals who were in the nearby surroundings.

OOC: Sure I'll join up.

IC: A small group of people examined their surroundings. The Gods had put them on this planet for a reason. However they didn't know what that reason was. The Gods had given them a few small shelters made of stone but they didn't understand it. All they knew was that they could go inside it. They were also given the knowledge to make fire, gather water, and hunt. They were placed in a harsh desert landscape where there were very sources of water and few animals. This would make their development challenging yet when they conquered the harsh enviroment they would be ready to conquer the world. The people, who numbered 50, settled in their huts and worshipped the gods, whose leader and king was Zeus.

...It had taken much time to construct the yurts and heard the Yaks, and there had been much hardship before. The Cacomen had worked together to form their civilization, but had been torn apart by Hades curse, greed. They set up their lands and began the monotonous tax of life, they were still quite primitive, in mind and customs, bartering was still the system, currency was just a dream...

"Come back Prophet!" yelled one of the Cacomen, the expedition had to be put on hold, for an internal crisis had emerged. "The Tribes are meeting Prophet, peace talks are not on the list, you must come!" They went, and so did their chance for interaction, it was another wasted opportunity.

While constructing more tools using sticks and rocks, a deer attacked one of the workers. Not knowing what to do, the man hit the dear with the tool on the head and killed it. Thus, they discovered they could kill wild animals and could hunt them.

Meanwhile, the miners were using their small mallots of wood and rocks to chip away at the rock. One miner however, struck a different substance than rock. A small surface iron deposit was found. Not knowing what to do, the man called over his comrades who began uncovering the metal and chipping away at it. When the sun was about to set, the men carried the rock and iron back to the small camp. The rocks were used to create small fireplaces while the iron, not knowing what to do with it, was put into the fires. Noticing that the metal could be melted down, the men started taking sticks and poking at it, shaping it into diformity. When the fire was extinguished so they could examine the new object, one man burned his hand while trying to pick it up. They then resolved to wait until it cooled. After the long wait, they experimented, finding out that the object was quite strong and could probable chip away at rock and cut trees down faster.

As the next day dawned and the people arose from their hard sleeps on the ground, they once again set out for work. The men went to wood cutting, mining, and the newly discovered ability, hunting; while the woman went to hearding the animals, which they called cows and sheep, into the newly created pens made of wood.

The wood cutters used the newly created tools made from the iron, which they called an axe. They used these to cut the entire trunk of the tree down, which they then proceeded to shave the bark off of and take of the branches. These they then took back to the camp for the other men, who would begin using the wood, to create houses.

The miners continually brought back iron, which was melted down and formed into large bowls at first so that they could better melt the metal and construct more efficient and less crude tools. Next, they created small spikes, which they would use to pound into the wood the lumberjacks cut down so that the builders could fix the trunks together.

The hunters, on the other hand, were having a hard and frustrating time. Everytime they would go near one of the animals, it would run away out of their reach. A way of killing the beasts from a distance had to be created. But for the time being, the men had found small bushes with berries, which they plucked and but into small grass bowls that had been constructed by the women.

And so the long day was filled with hard work, the Taledonian people were glad that the gods had placed them in such a warm but cool spot.

As the construction advanced, as well as other small technologies, the Taledonians quickly realized that they would need a way to record their doings as to better increase production. Therefore, a form of alphabet and writing was created. Using different symbols, the Taledonians could now record how much raw materials were harvested each day, as well as how much food should be passed out to each person.

On the topic of food, with the new iron tools, a sort of plow was created. This the women used to roughly plow the ground, in which they planted the seeds from the various vegetables that had grown nearby. Those sources of food, however, had quickly been used up. The people took this as a gift from the gods to help them along with their developping civilization.

After the sun had gone down, the Taledonian people resigned to their newly created wood huts, in which there were 8. Some of the woman had gone out and collected wheat, leaves, and grass and had padded the ground in which to form a sort of bed so sleeping on the ground wound'nt be so uncomfortable.

As the people layed down together in the houses, the god Jupiter, having forgotten about giving them the knowledge to keep their civilization alive, quickly put into their heads an idea. Almost immeadiatly, each man took one of the women and started to fornicate. Thus starts the birth of the new generation.

OOC. is it too late to join? and my number of posts is low because this is a puppet, not a newb. If its not too late then

I.C. A small group of people after being caught in a storm washed up on the west coast of a strange island. After looking round the discovered a small wooded area. They broke off some branches and made a make shift shelter. When they were out of the cold wind they sat down and had council. They elected a leader called Druegar. He decidded on called this the country of Preubar. It would become a nation of democracy and diplomacy.

Looking around, the Plutonian people saw little but ice and snow, so they slowly learned to build igloos. For food, they fished, and feasted on the dead, and for clothes, they used fish scales, mainly for warmth.

Eventually, they developed a language identical to the English language, for ease of communication.

IC:

When rosy dawn poked it's long fingers out into the dark, star filled sky, the smell of damp grass filled the air. It was raining, and hard. The people took this as a sign from the gods, demanding tribute for all they have done for the people. Immeadiatly, they set out into the cold rain, shivering as they had not yet created clothes. They started chopping down more trees and construction of a small temple to the gods was started.

One man, however, was not convinced. He did not see this as a sign of the gods disfavor, but as a sign of their knowledge and kindness. He thought they had sent the storm to guide the people to explore their surroundings further. So he, and a few others who he convinced, set out to explore the surroundings.

(OOC: This next paragraph is a bit of a look into the future.)

They would not return for a week, and would be a smaller party than that which had originally set out, but would return with knowledge of the surroundings. They will discover that they were on a peninsuala; which stuck out of another large land mass. They dare not go further however and return to the camp.

On the first night the ruler chose a group of elders with whom he would have conferences and would rule each individual tribe. The poeple then split into 6 groups, each with 12 people in them. It was then decreed that the women would be entrusted with gathering plants, fruits and berries and raising the children. The males would be given the jobs of defending the tribes, building the houses, temples and halls, and with hunting.
The tribes then went their own ways with Druegar being in control of the central tribe. Every week there would be a meeting with Druegar and the elders to make sure everything was progressing.
The tribes would trade with each other but each was to work as an individual community and would only relate to each other with common laws that were past, and there would be a single army that would be supplied by all the tribes but controlled by Druegar when the population was large enough.

The Preubians decided to spen tonight with each other before heading out tomorrow and trying to establish their own tribes in the light of a new day.

Karda Viin chose to bring his people into being in the mountains, for he liked the sharp edges of the rock and the constant howl of the wind. His people called themselves Viin Duru (the claws of the dragon), and, like their creator, they were a wild lot. They lived in caves and rough huts built from branches, and they searched the forests for food. Their greatest skill was hunting, and it would be a long time before they began even the simplest of farming.

Karda Viin granted his new creations knowledge of fire, and the skill to make rough tools and weapons, and then sat back in the mountain tops to watch. From this point on, they would have to make do without his help.

At first, the Plutonians did not know what to do with the new trees, but they eventually got the idea and chopped some down, to support bigger igloos, which, as time passed, looked more like houses than igloos, but were still made mainly of ice, but had wooden structures to support them.

As they evolved as a society, they eventually elected a monarch to rule the empire for the rest of eternity. They also learned the art of kama sutra, and infidelity & adultery also became an art form, thus the population increased at a greater pace.

The explorers finished exploring their island, and began devising ways to measure things.

As the men returned from exploring, they brought with them an item they found on their travels. They considered it a holy relic that the gods had left for them to find, which only increase their thought that the rain was meant to lead them. However, this was brushed off as a man who thought too much, today would be called a philosopher, wondered if it was just a natural cause. This man also gave new advances to the civilization. He created names for everybody, created marriage, the idea of a market, improved methods of production, mathematics and improvement on the language and writing.

As time progressed, more and more was discovered. Minerals such as bronze, copper, and marble were discovered and used in the construction of buildings, expecially temples to the gods. Also, the new tools that were created were used to cut blocks out of the rock, leading to the creating of stone houses and buildings.

A small, primitive wooden palisade now surrounded the small village. There were 53 houses made of the stone which was filed down smooth and painted with various dyes that the people had found. Also, a small market made of wood was constructed, which was the center of commerce in the village. All resources were taken there and distributed equally.

Various disputes between families, and the quickly growing population which was now at 153 people, quickly lead to the need for government. So once again, the wise man, who was named Niro, and who called himself a philosopher, created the idea of one man ruling the entire population solely, but with the best interest of the people in mind. This was called monarchy. The first king of the village of Taledon was elected and was named Marcus Verellus. He was wise and benevolent, just as the people expected.

They held a meeting and also decided to develop a written language so that they could keep records of their doings. This language was Spanish but they called it Ageaol. They first used stones to write in the sand but later cut open cacti with their stones and made tiny markings on the skin.

The Empire developed a form of measurement that was identical to the one the USA uses, but also developed a second form of measurement as well (metric). Using the new measurements, they determined the island to be about 26 miles in radius (52 miles wide).

The population is growing rapidly now as the settlement officially turns into a city, with 8,000 people now living in it. However, it was stunted sometimes by the occasional exhaustion of the fish supply. To support the growing population, the houses now looked like 3 story apartment buildings.

After a few days they digged in the same spot and found that it had grown so fast it had even spread its seeds around in the dirt. As Pisces Centauri grew bigger, the plutonians decided to harvest the tree seeds and manually plant trees. Because there were only pengquins and fish in the empire and no deer or something, this was an easy task. Soon, the island's icy beaches were filled with trees, and the "icescrapers" glistening behind them, making Pluto Island one of the most beautiful islands of its kind. As the skyscrapers got taller, they also got wider to support even more people, and so they don't topple in the high winds of the summer months

As the Taledonians advanced, so did their numbers grow and their city expand. The city of Taledon now streched out on both sides of the river, with a slender pontoon bridge made of wood was constructed to carry the people across to the other side of the city. The wooden palisade had been expanded, as stone walls weren't needed since they didn't know of any other race or of war. The walls were mearly to protect against animals. The houses were now made of a new invention called bricks, which were made of sand and were white. The roofs were now shingles of clay that the potters had made. The large sprawling city had grown immeasly. There were several markets, 13 different remples to the gods, Jupiter recieving the biggest, a palace for the king, and many other buildings. The most ingenius of these however, were the sewers. Specially dug trenches laiden with concrete allowed water from the river to carry the filth away from the city into the sea. Also, public bath houses were common in the city. Water was taken from the river, heated and put into one of the pools in a large tiled room that had a fireplace for warmth.

The iron tools helped production emmensly and new technologies and designes were invented. The immense forests that had previously surrounded the area were completely cut down and replaced with farmland or were inside the city walls. Mining was alot easier with the iron pickaxes, and allowed a new substance to be found. It was grey and shiny, and was called silver. These the Taledonians turned into little metal discs, which formed the new currency. A system of mesurement was created which was called the foot.

As the city grew, it out grew it's borders and the King assembled together all the extra people who could not find space in the city and told them to go down south of the city and found a new city. So the settlers set out to find a good place to make their new city.

Also, as hunting was still a problem, the bow and arrow was created. A man was sitting in his garden and was playing with a stick and some string. He tied the string to each side of the stick and bent the stick so it made an arch. Not really knowing what to do with what he had made, he took another stick and tried to fasten it to the string. He let go by accident and the string sent the other stick flying, thus, the bow and arrow were created. The arrows had an iron type so that it could punctur the skin of the deer, wild boar, and other animals.

Fishing was also a new big hit, as there was an abundance of fish in the river and nearby sea. The bigger fish however, were further out in the water, and hard to get at. So flotation devices, made of wood, were created that could float and carry small amounts of fishermen out into the water; this they called a boat.

As time passed, the Ageaol realized that their constant expansion would drive away all the animals and they would die. They started a major project to move all the buildings underground. Energy used to cool houses would be decreased and tunnels would connect them all and lead to the surface. This would make hunting easier and more profitable. Special areas were designated for their special plant, mezcla(Spanish for melange). It was named mezcla because that is exactly what it was. It was a mixture of all kinds of flavors. Sometimes you would taste strawberry, others chocolate, and others cinnamon. These soon became added in all of their meals as it gave them an energy boost. The melange could also be squashed into a powder that when applied to the skin, decreased water loss which was important in a desert.

At the end of the peninsuala, the 250 settlers found a perfect spot right next to the coast to create their new city. They started by first creating lumber yards and mining camps, then began building houses and a temple to Ceres, the god of grain and fertility.

As the small settlement grew into a village, the people wondered why they should be ruled by a king 23 miles away, therefore, they elected their own king, who was called King Sherman. When word of the rivolt against his rule, King Verellus did not know what to do. The Taledonian people had never know war, and never even knew anything about foreign politics. Since trade carts were being siezed by the rebels of the villiage of Veii, he thought it only just to confront these aggressors with aggression of his own. He quickly mustered 300 militia, who were armed with pickaxes and bows. These he led towards the rebel city, in the hoping of reconquering it for the glory of the Taledonian people.

The rebels, on the other hand, already knew that they needed a force of fighting men to defend against their former king. 150 of them had been given newly created weapons, called spears. These weapons were made of 3 meter long wooden sticks that had iron points on their tips. Their army consisted of 130 spearmen, and 20 archers.

As the force of King Verellus came into view on top of the hill facing Veii, the rebels formed into a large block with their spearpoints pointed at their enemy. As tactics had not yet been created considering this was the first ever battle, King Verellus ordered a straight out charge on the rebels. As his men charged, they were impalled on the spearpoints; but this caused the spears to break, forcing the rebels under King Sherman to draw their small iron wood cutting axes. The two forces fought for half an hour until both sides were dwindled down to about 100 men each. The two sides agreed to a halt in the battle as King Verellus and King Sherman met to discuss a treaty.

It was then decided that both Kings would rule over their own cities but would come together under one nation, which they would jointly rule. This was how it was for all the settlements created after this event.

Now that the two cities were once again on the same side, commerce was the greatest issue. The trade carts had trouble navigating over the terrain, and therefore, roads were constructed between the two cities. The roads were made of packed dirt that created a smooth terrain for the carts wooden weels to pass over more easily.

They were afraid to go near it. In the end one person suggested throwing stuff at it. However, it had little effect. One person who had a very activate imagination suggested that they launch things at it. The townspeople laughed at him so he walked away. He returned one hour later with a stick and a string. He carefully held the string tight and pushed the stick against it. He aimed and released. The stick bounced towards the lazaria and hit it in the chest between two scales. It roared in pain and died. Later on this developed into a bow and arrow. The people used the pointy tail of the lazaria as the arrowhead and used the scales to make armor and used the teeth to form swords.

Luckily, the entire penisuala was under Taledonian control and the mountain ranges at the top of the land giving only 4 passes out of Taledonia; each one was going to recieve it's own garrison soon.

The military, learning that their tools didn't do much in battle, had created short swords, which they called a gladius; spears with reinforced wood to prevent easily breaking; long tower shields made of wood, but that had iron plating on the front. These new men were trained vigourously and exelled in discipline and skill. They left the shelter after taking all the supplies from their dead companions and burying them. On the way, a lazaria, attracted to the smell of food, rose up out of the sand. It killed one of them and mortally wounded another. The third man, in a final act of desperation, grabbed a spear and charged against the lazaria. It charged back and at the last moment he leaped up and threw the spear into the scaly body of the lazaria. Through luck, the spear stuck inbetween two scales but didn't fully pierce it. This caused enormous pain to the lazaria. It writhed and twisted but the spear held. The man leaped onto the lazaria and used the handle to lift a scale off. This exposed the fleshy surface underneath which prevented it from burying underground. The lazaria lost in pain started running at full speed across the desert. The lazaria ran for miles on end before finally stopping and dying of exhaustion. The man leaped off and rested. Then he continued walking and before long he reached the end of the desert and found large grasslands. He believed this to be an omen from Zeus that the Ageaol after overcoming much hardships, would eventually find paradise. He mounted another lazaria and returned home to tell the others of his discovery.

As the first half of the year came to a close, and the winter months dawned, snow started to cover the upper part of Taledonia. Not having discovered clothes yet, the people in the northern part of the kingdoms were freezing. This was going to continue all through the winter if it had not been for the discovery of spinning wool from the sheep into clothes and using linen to make clothes. The upper kingdoms of Alzaberth, Norban, and Izcar prefered the woolen clothes for they kept their people warm in the snow; while the other kingdoms in the south prefered the cool linen tunics that kept them cooler in the heat of the lower parts of the land.

All was going well in the kingdoms, or so it seemed; one man, named Decius Curtius, thought that the kings no longer did what was in the best interest of the people, but what was in their own best interest. When horses were discovered and horseback riding perfected, scouts were sent out across the great moountain range seperating Taledonia from the rest of the world. Word had gotten out about a large palace with mystical stones, stones that could only be considered gifts from the gods. These gifts had obviously been captured by the barbarian scum on the other side of the mountains and had to be recaptured. All the Kings agreed to send their forces north of the mountains and take the palace by force.

The next morning, a sacrifice was made to Jupiter, three fair oxen, to ensure the victory of the troops. Immeadiatly following, a force of 500 armed men marched towards the mountain pass throught the small snowfall. Not feeling the cold however, thanks to their woolen tunics. The force was commanded by General Barbatio of Taledon, and comprised of him and his bodyguard(all mounted units, 25 in total including Barbatio), 50 other cavalry units, 50 archers, and 375 infantry units.

They marched until they arrived at the small village of Tarquinii, at which they made camp and awaited dawn to once again poke up her head. In the morning, another sacrifice, this time to Mars, the god of war. The army then continued to march towards their target. When they passed through the mountains they spotted the palace. Several guards were positioned around it, but that was no match for the power of the Taledonian army, for they had the gods on their side. Barbatio, being considered the best Taledonian general, quickly though up a strategy.

He sent his archers onto a high ridge overlooking the palace, with a small force of 20 infantry units guarding the only way up that particular ridge. He then sent the rest of his 350 infantry units down to hide behind another ridge close to the palace. There they would wait until signalled, when they would storm the guards and take the palace. He then positioned his cavalry, and himself, directly behind his infantry. All was in place for the attack.

With a quck hand signal that was passed from officer to officer up to the ranks or archers, they began to load their bows and take aim. Releasing their storm of death onto the enemy guards with deadly accuracy. Barbatio then gave the order to attack, and his infantry all charged out from where they were hiding and attacked the guards, staying in close formation like how they were taught. Their shields proved useful, but their lack of body armor made them less effective, nontheless, the palace would be taken. With the enemy distracted, Barbatio then took his cavalry around to the other side of the palace and then ordered a charge into the rear of the enemy units. The cavalry men smashed into the rear, sending men flying. To avoid hitting their own units, the archers started sharp shooting instead of just raining down storms of airrows. All was looking good, and within the ranks of men, they could swear the gods Mars and Jupiter were there fighting with them, to glorious victory over the insolent barbarians.

As the men pushed through on both sides, infantry on one and cavalry on the other, they were drawing closer to their objective. Soon it would be night and the snow would fall harder. These barbarian warriors had to be killed or routed before then or the men would be snowed in until next spring; and not recovering the holy relics would bring the disfavor of the gods.

By now the archers had run out of arrows and were now going down the ridge with their infantry escorts to join their comrades in battle.

Meanwhile, back in Taledonia

The people grew bored of not having any amusement and working all day. Songs, plays and art were there sure, but it wasn't enough. The problem was solved, however, when King Verellus constructed a giant dome, which he called the "Collisseum." This new structure was to hold 600 000 people, and would hold fights between slaves, which would now be called gladiators. Fake battles would take place, and sometimes the arena would be flooded to host mock naval battles. This was a tremendous success. People flocked from all over Taledonia to view the games. Sometimes there were too many people and could not all fit in the colliseum; for the population had grown to 4 million people. The 4 passses through the mountains, which were now referred to as the Taledonian Mountains, had it's own legion guarding it, and each legion had constructed rather large forts that sat behind large wooden walls.

The army, which now were professionals, were devided into self contained legions. Each legion contained about 6 000 men. Helmets, breastplates, greaves and bracers made of iron were constructed and given out to the men. The troops were trained as either Hastati , which were light infantry who carried a gladius, tower shield and two pila (specially made javelins that break on contact to avoid them being picked up and rethrown); Principes , who were heavy infantry, who carried a gladius, tower shield, two pila , and stronger and heavier armor; and Triarii, heavy infantry that carried a long spear and heavy armor. Of course there was also the archers and cavalry men, the archers having light padded armor, while the cavalry had heavy cavalry armor and carried special cavalry shields and a gladius. There were 5 legions in total not counting militia and the men on the mission to recapture the relics.

Seing as how most of the legions were away guarding the passes, and the last legion was positioned in Taledon, Decius Curtius brought together a large number of followers, including most of the local garrison of Veii; which was the city he resided in. Seeing as how most of the legions were on the other side of Taledonia, he launched his strike. His force of 4 000 peasants and 100 guards marched towards the palace in which the King of Veii, Nordis Gimmer, resided in. The palace guards, as well as the rest of the faithfull city garrison took positions behind the high iron gates at the entrance of the stone wall protecting the palace. The gate was quickly broken down however and the rebels stormed the palace. They killed the garrison and took the palace. King Nordis was executed publicly, to the happiness of the city, and the revolution had started. Decius had resolved to drive out every single king that plagued the land, and install his new government, a fair and just government.

The surrounding villiges and small cities that were under the command of King Nordis declared themselves independant from the rest of the Kingdom and joined the rebellion. Now, with a force of 18 000 peasants and 800 guards, Decius Curtius marched on the other kingdom on that side of Taledonia. This would make the south completely under his control.

After several bloody campaigns, Decius Curtius had defeated every kingdom of Taledonia, except for the Kingdom of Taledon itself. King Verellus had gathered together all the surviving peoples who were faithful to the Kingdoms and ammassed a large army of 500 000 militia.

When the two forces actually met at Taledon, Verellus' forces sat inside their large stone walls and rained arrows upon the rebels, having a great effect. But Decius Curtius would not except defeat, he would crush the last King and drive him from the lands.

First, he had his heavy infantry, which was the garrisons that had joined his cause, positioned in front to hide behind their shields and advance with the battering ram towards the gate. Secondly, he sent half of his light infantry, which was the peasant militia, around to the other side to batter down the opposite gates.

Verellus had to pull troops from the front to commit to the rear and guard that gate. His forces were now seperated, and Curtius' strategy could be impelmented. He quickly sent the rest of his light infantry to the side gates and had the few spies that he had set inside the city open the gates. His militia rushed through the city streets and into the main street, cutting off each side of Verellus' army from the other.

As the gates were battered down, the rest of the men rushed in and attacked the devided army. Not being able to reform into one force, the two sides fell one after the other. There was significant loss on both sides but the city was taken; and the last Kingdom of Taledonia had fallen to Curtius. Curtius was angered however, for King Verellus and a handful of his bodyguard had escaped the city and were heading towards the south of Taledonia. There they boarded ships and set out in search of new lands; a strom sunk their stolen fishing ships however and killed them all.

Taledonia was now free from tirrany, and Curtius could now implement his new type of government, which he called "The Republic." The new government consisted of an elected senate to rule over the people. The senate would be elected by the people and then two of the senators would be elected to hold the imperium , or power. They would be the head of the senate and the leaders of the nation. However, their power was limited, they still needed permission from the senate to declare war or implement new laws. Of course, Decius Curtius was elected one of the two Imperators , along with Gaius Kellerman, a trusted advisor of Curtius and a strategical genius.

Barbatio was stunned by their beauty, but did not pause. He and his officers took the relics and placed them in their sacs. They then proceeded out of the palace, remounted their horses, and ordered a full retreat back into friendly land. The retreat, however, wasn't really a retreat. The men backed away professionally, still fighting and staying in perfect formation. Once far enough away from the remaining enemy, they turned and ran to catch up with the leaders.

An hour before sun down, they arrived at the legion garrison at the pass. Just in time too, for the snow started to fall heavily and the passes began to fill up with snow. It would be difficult to march troops through the passes again until spring as there were no roads leading out of the mountains.

The roads themselves, had been improved. Where packed dirt once stood, now cement and concrete covered the land. The roads were ingenius, with flood drains on each side of the road. Taledonian architecture and engineering was un-matched in the world, and looked it. They allowed for quick troop movement and increased trade.

Barbatio didn't rest at the legion fort, as most generals would have, he had his orders to return to Taledon with the relics and place them in the temple of Jupiter; plus he wanted to outfit his army with the latest gear. He force marched his troops south from the mountains and into the warm and fertile lands of Taledonia. When arriving at the capitol, he had no idea about the revolution and still though King Verellus was in control. He was shocked when he heard what had happend.

Imperator Curtius, having hearing for the first time about the mission to recover the relics, was horrified. There had just been a massive war that had raged through Taledonia and another could not be taken on at that time. He sent messengers and diplomats quickly on horseback to the barbarian lands, with hopes of stopping a war. His counterpart, Gaius Kellerman, however, did not approve of this and thought that Taledonia could stand up to a few barbarian troops. He was brushed off tho, as Curtius was favored among the two for being the leader of the revolution.

Gaius Kellerman was the faction leader of one of the great patrician families; the Curtii, the Scipii, and the Kellermanii. Each of the families had been given a certain part of Taledonia to govern; the Curtii in the south with Veii as their capitol; the Scipii in the middle and controlling the island in the southwest of the Taledonian peninsuala; and the Kellermanii in the north, on the front. Facing the problem of the winter cold and the new barbarian threat. Gaius was confident he could withstand an attack with his legions, but the senate and Curtius thought otherwise.

The diplomats returned to Taledon with the answer, and Curtius was quite pleased, tho Kellerman was not. The stones were returned to the barbarian scum and new rivalries started.

Gaius thought that the Curtii was too soft and power hungry to be leaders, and the Scipii couldn't even manage their own cities. So he rallied various legions to his new cause, with Barbatios new legion being the first to join after the relics that they had so painstackingly capture were returned to the enemy. Gaius assembled all his faithfull legions, which would follow him to whatever end, and marched on Taledon. His numbers were 100 000 and the city garrison of Taledon was only 20 000. Decius Curtius would be captured and the position of Imperator would not be shared any longer. Tricking the senate and Decius into thinking that his army was only there to re-supply and for inspection, they were allowed into the city gates. Once inside, they marched to the city center and made formation. Within 3 hours, the city had fallen to Gaius and Curtius executed.

All the seperate provinces given to each family were now taken back and made as one province under the senate, with Gaius ruling. He began creating a vast army, one that would start the imperial age of Taledonia, and the start of the great dynesty of the Kellermanii family ruling over the empire.

The first thing they built was a shrine to Gaia so that the land would help them. They planted crops and learned to raise livestock. They tamed horses and oxen to help plow the fields and deliver messages throughout the city. One day, a guard went into the bedroom of King Isaac. He found the king dead. Underneath the king's body, he found a will. It stated that rule of the land should go to his son, Alaric. Thus the first dynasty was born and succession and wills were invented. The people of Ageaol now numbered two million and were growing strong. King Alaric appointed governors to rule sections of the land in his name. He himself controlled the biggest and strongest section, the middle of the desert where most of the mezcla was grown. He appointed four governors to rule in quadrants. Each day messengers would ride lazaria to report about what was happening in a certain quadrant to the king. Though they had grown and expanded so much, they had yet to encounter another sentient being.

Using the new galleys, which were bigger boats than fishing ships, they sailed over the sea to the west; there they found a large amount of land, with barbarian scum populating it. After several weeks of campaigning, the new province of Caledon was added to the empires borders. This provided ample space for cities, allowing the population to grow rapidly. The land was also rich in minerals and provided great trade and income within the empire.

As well as heading west, they went down south, and conquered more lands inhabited by barbarians. These lands were hotter and covered in jungles past the official borders. These lands were highly fertile and provided much food and agricultural output, which also increase income. The new provinces grew fast as many settlers who couldn't fit in the overcrowded cities of Taledonia went over.

IC:

As the winter dawned, the Taledonian Empire slowed down it's construction. The northern borders were covered in snow but the southern provinces were great. Stockpiles of food and supplies were being made for the springtime campaigns.

The population had almost doubled and was now at 7 million people. The legions were swarming with new recruits, the different industries were booming, and income was coming in like it grew on trees. Everything was going well. New advances led to new buildings, such as aqueducts to carry water in to cities far from fresh water supplies, heated baths, better roads to allow more trade and faster troop movement, and most of all, a new technology was found that when crushing sand together tightly, it becomes clear; thus, clear glass was invented. Soon, all the buildings had the glass over the windows and the temples to the gods were fitted with colored glass.

Most of the legions were in winter quaters, the time when they are allowed to tend to family affairs at home, but this was not the case. Imperator Gaius wouldn't have it, he recalled most of his legions back to the capitol for inspection. All the legions that weren't on guard in the mountains and on the borders came to the capitol, nearly 3 million legionaires. All these men marched through the city streets in perfect formation as the people cheered their magnificent armies. The men made their way to the now large forum in front of the Imperial Palace. They made themselves organized in their own legions, making a magnificent checkerboard of groups of soldiers. They all talked amongst themselves until the large mable doors leading from the palace onto the balcony opened, and out walked the Imperator. Immeadiatly, the troops broke out into a cheer at seeing their savior.

Giaus, flanked by 15 preatorians, walked out to the front of the balcony as his guard positioned themselves behind him. He lifted his hands for silence and a hush fell over the crowd. "Soldiers of Taledonia!" he shouted in his great orator voice, as a defining cheer rose from the legions. Once again he lifted his hands for silence, "You have been called up from winter quarters for one reason, and one reason only. To the north, the barbarians lurk in their mountains and lush grasslands, lands that rightfully belong to us! If they are allowed to fester, then all we have worked so hard for shall be undone. To the east, another land sits filled with barbarians. They have learned the ways of the spear and sword, and have thick armor just as ours, but they are still barbarians, and are no match for Taledonians! These lands must be taken so we can make use of it's ressources, and give us another vantage point in which to launch the spring campaigns against the peoples in the north! So we will march forth into the east, sail over the seas by boat, and land on their shores; then we will do what we do best, win! We will crush them all!" Another cheer arose from the crowd as the Imperator bowed to his men and dissappeared behind the preatorians back into the palace.

3 hours later, the men were at the city of Trier, and were loading ships at the dock. 30 legions were being sent, the equivalent of 180 000 legionaires. They departed the dock and set sail for the soon to be new province of the Taledonian Empire.

During this time the Penguinians had spread even farther north, past their mountains into what is now Russia. Their weapons had advanced farther to include Bows, slings and daggers. The Population spread to nearly 1-2,000. Wade I the Great had passed on(He accidently tripped and landed on a spear.), and Wade II the Lesser, his son, had taken over.

The Taledonians continued to crush their enemies at every possible battle. In an attempt to end the war quickly and have a better chance of surviving the invasion, the barbarian leaders sent out envoys to the Taledonian legions. After negotiating, it was settled; the entire Taledonian force would meet the entire barbarian force in a large plain.

At the battle, the Taledonian legions got into standard formation; skirmishers in front, followed by the Triarii, then the Hastatii, then the Principes, then the archers, and lastly the cavalry. The barbarians however, got into their standard formations of having their troops, which all consisted of spearmen, into blocks of troops which they called a phalanx. These rellyied of the sheer might of the troops to bush through the enemy lines.

As the barbarians attacked, the skirmishers rained javelins on them until they got to close. Retreating behind the lines of infantry, the skirmishers joined the archers in raining arrows on the enemy. The hastatii and principes threw their pilum and charged with the triarii. When all the infantry were engaged in battle, the cavalry then charged and clashed into the enemy troops, sending some flying at the force of the impact.

The battle was decided after 24 hours of fighting, the Taledonian legions were victorious, and the new province of the Empire under construction.

OOC: Well you said in the east. I had no clue how far east you meant.

IC: The Ageaol had settled the four major islands of Japan. Mount Fuji became the most popular shrine of the gods as it was closest to the heavens where they lived. They had developed an army that used the phalanx method. The swordsmen moved in slowly with their shields locked and more shields above them. Behind them, the spearsmen threw their spears at the other army. Behind them, the archers shot their arrows. They had developed a special fire that would not be put out by water or sand. When on the defense they used large catapaults to throw them deep in enemy lines. When sieging, the archers lit their arrows with it and hoped to burn the enemy city.
As the two months passed, King Alaric rode a lazaria to the edge of the desert with a small escort. He then released the lazaria back into the desert and rode on horseback to the meeting spot. He reached there first and set up camp while waiting for the Penguinian ruler to arrive.

Summers warmth came to the northern borders of the Taledonian Empire. The fields planted and being harvested, larger numbers of lumberjacks cutting down trees, minerals were being extracted from the now unfrozen mountains in the nort, fishermen pulled numerous fish out of the thawed rivers, and all was going well.

At Taledon, the Imperator was giving his final inspections of his legions. He walked down the ranks of still men, flanked by his many advisors and a guard of 30 preatorians. Feeling pleased at the massive army awaiting before him, he let out a wry smile.

"Today is the day I conquer the world." he said to himself.

Finishing his inspections, he walked over to the men awaiting him on the other side of the forum. There, he adoned his ceremonial golden cavalry armor, strapped on his gladius to his belt, and mounted his large war charger. He then lifted the golden laurel crown off of his head in a kind of salute to his men and trotted off to towards the front of the city gates, followed closely by his bodyguard of 300 heavy cavalry. The other 800 000 soldiers that were in the forum followed their leader towards the gates.

In a long marching line, they filed out of the gates and started their march towards the city of Arretium, the largest city in the north of the Taledonian Peninsuala; there they would meet up with the forces of General Sallustius and would add another 300 000 soldiers to the army. After the stop in Arretium, the force marched through the mountain pass into the Western part of the empire towards the capitol city of Onder to gain another 500 000 soldiers. Once there, the army rested for a day and in the morning set out once again towards the barbarian lands to conquer the lands, their forces counting a total of 1 600 300 troops.

The army was made up of 400 000 cavalry units, 350 000 missile units(archers, skirmishers, artillery), and 850 300 infantry units. And then there were the hundreds of thousands of camp followers and supply wagons. This unstoppable force marched closer each day towards the barbarian lands. With the many sacrifices to the gods, winning over their favor, it would be a bloody year for the barbarians, and a heroic one for the Taledonians.

Seeing the opposing force, Imperator Gaius started trotting along the ranks of his first division, which was the only one visible to the enemy. He then gave his speech in his commanding voice that gave him the reputation of a master orator.

"Over there stand the Scandivans; vile, filthy, and hairy beyond reason. They are stronger and braver than anyone of their puny race has the right to be! They have been brought to the battlefield by cowerds, not men! We should make them feel kindly of their masters wipes when this is over.

The sacrifices have been made, and the portents are so many, that I would not be able to list them all and still have time for a battle today. This is a good sign, a sign of the gods favor! With the gods on our side, nothing can stop us! But the one thing that is the most clear to all of us, was the eagle that flew overhead 3 times, with a serpent in it's talons, this can only mean a great victory shall be won today!

We have the advantage in number, and the advantage in skill and might! With these odds, we have only to march on the enemy. Know that as long as we live, fight, and die as true Taledonians, are victory is assured! So let us go now, to our bloody business!"

The men broke into a devastating cheer that drained out any other noise in the area. Also, the men started hitting their weapons against the heels of their feet, a sign of great favor opposed to the clanging of weapons on their shields. The skirmishers in the front ranks made ready with their javelins, while the archers got ready to unleash a deadly rain of arrows on the enemy.

The enemy army was now surrounded on all sides the superior number of Taledonian troops and victory was assured. The pincer movement had worked, ensuring the defeat of the Scandivans. There was only 2 options now, for the enemy army to surrender, or fight to the death; and since this was the largest force the barbarians had, the conquest of the rest of the land would be easy.

At the high of the battle, however, Gaius still wanted to save many of his troops to make his army remain almost at 100% He continually shouted to the barbarians, "Surrender now! And you will be assured life! And in time, once your people prove that they are loyal to the empire, they shall be granted citizenship! Do not throw your lives away for nothing!" In that case, an alliance would not only be beneficial to both our nations, it would probably save our lives if they were to ever attack us. In the meantime, we must establish guards on the edges of their empire. I shall deploy spies to find out about them."

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the nation, the concept of armour was developed when one worker was carrying a stone to building a new building. A stray arrow from a hunting party accidentally hit it. Had the stone not been in the way, it would have struck him in the face and killed him. After the issue was settled and the man was calmed after his near death experience, he developed armor made out of thin sheets of stone. He made a fortune out of it and it protected people from being killed accidentally during hunting parties. However, people still died when hit in the face because they had not discovered a way to protect it without obstructing vision and breathing.

The Empire slowed down once again as winter came. The garrisons had moved south into winter quarters and everything was going smoothly. There was still no word on the progress of the army or the glorious Imperator yet, creating a sort of fuss within the cities. Some people thought that the force had been crushed, and their leader, and pride was destroyed with them. But most of the empire stayed faithfull to the army, and things kept going. More recruits were being trained into the new legions to replenish the weakend forces guarding the empire now that most of the soldiers were away. Another thing that made the garrisons of the empire stronger, was the creation of a law saying that no army can enter the Taledonian Peninsuala unless just passing throught. Instead, the Preatorian guard devision of Taledon was spread to the entire province. Their numbers bigger and them having the most training and being the elite of the empire, the province of Taledonia would be an impregnable fortress that anyone would be crazy to attack.

Within the Senate, however, things started to turn in the disfavor of the Imperator. Some of the senators had the idea that the force had already conquered the barbarian lands and had decided to stay and bask in it's luxuries and women while the rest of the Empire falls apart. This was brushed aside however by most of the other senators but there was still the small minority who thought the Imperator was doing things in the best interest of himself instead of the Empire.

Back in Taledon

Still having not heard from the Imperator, and the winter almost being over, the Senate sent a newly created army to look for the lost troops. This new force contained 8 more legions, making a total of 48 000 men. This force, under General Barbatio, who was called up from retirement, marched towards the lands of the Scandivans.

Also, in the easter section of the Empire, a new race was discovered. They called themselves the (sorry, can't remember the penguin guys name) and lived further east. This was of no importance at the moment however, as the large mountain ranges and desert to the east was ripe for colonization. Therefore he created the term of a military strategist and delegated one of his counsellors to do the job. Meanwhile he mobilized a part of the main army to march to the western borders to guard against the Taledonians should they ever come. There were 2,000 footmen, 1,000 archers, 1,000 spearmen, and 1,000 cavalry. They patrolled the borders and set up outposts and towers. Each tower had a large pile of wood which could be set on fire. The fire would be seen up to 200 yard away where another tower would then light a fire. Thus they created a simple alarm system that could be sent straight to the desert and alert the king.

OOC: I hope you don't mind if I join, even if it is a little late. If you don't mind I would like to start my people off a bit better.

IC: A people were created: the Caladonnians. These people were divided into five castes, almost separate species, but with one goal in mind, above all personal gain: The Greater Good of the Caladonnian Race. The five castes each had a specific function. The Earth Caste, the builders, farmers, and engineers, were the backbone of the Caladonnian civilization. The Air Caste, the explorers, navigators, and sailors, were essential for Caladonn's expansion. The Water Caste, the traders, diplomats, and beauracrats were the administrators and merchants, connecting the people. The Fire Caste, the warriors, were the defenders of the race. Finally, the mysterious Ethereals, the mythical rulers of the race, protected the Caladonnians from barbarism and ruled the land.
However, in the Beginning, the people were set down on an unnocupied, vast continent, on the banks of a mighty river, near the sea of a great ocean. 100 people, with two ethereals, were created in this place of bounty. They looked out, across the land, and thanked their Creator for the life made for them.
Soon, however, they were finished with philosophical pursuits, and turned to more important matters, mainly: the growling of their stomachs. The two ethereals quickly put a stop to several Fire Caste members who were attempting cannibalism, and quickly set them trying to catch small animals. The Ethereals instructed the Water and Earth Castes to begin building rudimentary shelters, as they realized these would be needed after a short rain squall set many to shivering. The Air Caste roamed, and eventually found stones and wood which they brought back to camp and was used for better shelter. Also, many of the members of the Fire Caste, realizing how hard it was trying to catch animals with their bare hands, began fashoning rudimentary clubs. When this did not penetrate a porkupine's hide, they attatched stones to the end of the clubs. After bashing one against a rock and seeing some of it break off, leaving a flat surface, they broke the rocks together to create sharpened points. The Earth and Water Castes had finished building some shelters, and began improving them with stones and logs. The Air Caste, having explored a bit more around the new settlement, found berries and fruit trees and picked them for easy food. This became a regular trip, and eventually, after ranging further afield, they found many more, so with the Fire Caste hunting and the Air Caste foraging, all were provided for. The food began to be cooked in large fires near the huts, and it tasted much better. Several Water Caste had begun fishing for extra food, and this was cooked also. After seeing seawater in a small crevice evaporate to leave salt, this was used to make the food last for weeks.

After several months, the settlement was booming. The population had doubled to 200, and several new things had been discovered. The Air Caste had found iron, which, after many experimentations, was found to be able to melt down and change shape. With this, the Fire Caste developed far more efficient tools for fighting animals, and an axe was developed that could cut trees easily, which not only provided more firewood and better buildings, but meant that the Fire Caste could attach their new iron points to wood shafts to create spears, which could be thrown and made it far easier to hunt. Also, the Earth Caste discovered they could cut rock with iron pickaxes, and soon had shelters with stones that fit well together and were quite snug. The Water Caste weaved together vines from a nearby forest to create nets, which they used to fish better. One Air Caste member attempted to float out on a log into the river, but had to swim back quickly and so that was not tried for a while.

After a period of six months, the settlement had gained even more members, and a new innovation discovered by a young Earth Caste member was to revolutionize Caladonnian life: farming. The boy took some seeds from some berries the Air Caste had brought back, and put it in dirt. After several weeks, it had sprouted, and miniature unripe berries could be seen! this was looked on skeptically by the older members of the settlement, until a cold snap set in, and the Earth Caste boy's family had enough to eat because although all the game went away, the hardy little plant had sprouted, and the boy had planted more. The Ethereals immediately ordered the Earth Caste to plant many bigger plants that took a whole season to grow for the next year, and iron implements were developed to help sow the seeds. Of course, since the Earth Caste had not harvested any yet, they did not have any tools for the harvest. Also, with this new method, the water Caste realized a system of measurement was needed, and they developed one. (aka metric) All in all, it had been a great first six months for the settlement, and they looked forward to developing more.

At the Empire

Word had gotten out about another new race called the Ageaol. These men were watching the Empire and setting up defenses around the borders. This was not acceptable, so the garrisons would have to be built up to repel these barbarians if they tried anything.

Meanwhile, the city of Constance was flourishing. It was built in a perfect spot to encourage growth. Tho in the desert, it was surrounded by palm trees and was built on the coast of the sea, allowing large amounts of trade to come in and out. Two sets of large stone walls were set up, one in front of the other. This would allow the city to be defended better from attack. A palace was built to act as the provincial palace for the govenor. Instead of focusing on building up large land armies like the rest of the Empire, however, Constance built a formidable navy, 800 galleys to defend the sea that was now firmly under the control of Taledonia.

(OOC: My Empire is now exactly like the Roman Empire was at it's greatest high, except for the lands I'm still conquering from Scandivans.)

Scandivans

As the men marched on, they were ambushed on route by the barbarians. It was a sizable force to, and would rpove a problem for the smaller force. But training and disciplin was greater in the Taledonian army and would work to the advantage of the troops. As the barbarians attack, the men quickly formed. The men split into two sides, each defending one side of the road that was surrounded by the forests in which the barbarians seemed to be able to melt into and appear out of at will. The triarii spearmen were in front, as they were the most skilled and could defend the best against cavalry charges; in the second ranks, the hastati were positioned, who aimed their pilum at the oncoming enemy and fired, then drawing their gladius' and making themselves ready for the fight; the principes were positioned behind the hastati as they usually are, they also threw their pilum and got ready for when the front ranks grew tired and diminushed the enemy force; then the missile units, archers and skirmishers took the ranks behind them and continually rained arrows and javelins on the attack force; and lastly, the officers and other cavalry in the very middle of the force, shouting encouragement onto their men.

The two sets of spears from boths sides clashed into each other, the spearmen being impaled and impaling the enemy in turn. The archers and skirmishers continued to rain hell on the advancing enemy and the infantry threw their last pilum at the enemy before charging with their triarii allies into the enemy.

It just so happend that at this time, a convoy of ox-hide covered carts was passing threw the area to go back to the Empire with the captured spoils of war. These were escorted by 800 heavy cavalry. The scouts that had joined them rode ahead and spotted the Taledonian force under attack. General Ikbar, who was commanding the escort, ordered the convoy to stop. He then raced ahead, leaving 200 of the cavalry to defend the carts, and sped off to help the distressed army. Upon arriving close, the force started a charge onto the back of the enemy assualting the right of the Taledonian army. These had gone un-noticed on their approche and crashed into the barbarian hordes, chopping and hacking at the barbarians as they arrived. The force of the charge was devastating, the number of cavalry was enough to send a large portion of the barbarian force flying into the air or falling under their comrades or enemies feet, crushing them to death.

"Send word to the fort! Tell the Imperator of this treachery! Make sure he kills every damn person of this barbarian race as to honor our fallen dead!" shouted Ikbar to one of his cavalry officers. The man quickly sped off from the fight back to the awaiting convoy of carts and the remaining force.

"Back to the fort, quickly!" he ordered. The carts were turned around and the force started heading back to the large fort the main army had set up during the winter. A few scouts were sent ahead of the convoy to ensure that if this force was ambushed, the word would at least have gotten to the troops.

The convoy arrived back at the fort and the message was delivered to the Imperator. "There has been enough bloodshed in these lands for now. Send emissaries to the barbarians leaders to negotiate a treaty." said Gaius.

"Our terms are simple. We will leave you with all your land beyond your western mountain range that you have recently fortified. The rest of the land that we have conquered(all the land leading up to the mountains) will remain under our control. There will also be trade rights given, and a ceasefire in effect so that no nation attacks the other."
