A city in turmoil (Resistance)

The city was a ravaged image of what it had once been. It had served as an example of what Snowlander would do to crush out any resistance against his regime. The shelling had stopped early in the morning, at which point Snowlanders soldiers moved in.

But the rebels were prepared. Most had been SOMI at one point or another, so had learned through training to sleep through artillery barages. Snowlanders plan to have them exhausted when he attacked had failed on all but around 20% of those that hadn't run when his army had been seen coming.

Gunfire rained from the buildings onto the entrenched SOMI in the streets, who returned fire with an assortment of weapons from small arms to air strikes. The rebels were slowly whittling away at the SOMI's morale.

In the distance, music could be heard between the gunfire. Someone had managed to procure citywide control of the speakers located throughout and was playing their choice of music. Currently, "Bombshell" by Powerman 5000 was playing. Several squads had been sent out to find and shut down the source of this music, as the general in charge of the attack couldn't stand music like that.

J. Dante Malakym fired his entire clip at the soldiers in the street, killing three. He had been in the city when they had attacked. Even though he didn't agree with Ms. Chaknov's methods, he hated Snowlander. So he fought.

"Yo! D! What should we do? They'll be getting an airstrike to hit this building pretty quickly." Dante looked around the room and his eyes rested on the firestairs. "We go up." He and his ragtag group of survivors picked up what they could and took it with them. As they were running up the stairs, a shout came from behind. "D, the roof won't be the safest place!"

Dante kept running as he shouted over his shoulder,"I scouted this building before I ran into you guys! I know a way out!" Shortly he kicked the door to the roof, sending it flying open. As the others piled onto the roof, they saw what Dante was talking about. A cable was connecting this building to one across the street.

Dante ordered the group across as he heard the sound of incoming engines. In the distance, he saw the silhouettes of the aircraft destined for this building. "Go!" The first person took off their jacket and slung it over the cable. They got a running start and slid across the street to the other building. Five more members of the group crossed. A young girl was with them, but she started crying. Dante looked at her and realized that she was afraid of heights.

The engines grew closer so he decided to act drastically. He scooped the girl into the crook of his left arm and pulled off an ammunition belt with his right. He wrapped the belt around the cord and jumped. The girl screamed incredibly loudly, causing some of the soldiers to look into the air and begin firing at the two.

A whoosh came and Dante looked over his shoulder. The planes released their missiles and flew on. The missiles slammed into the building, and it began to collapse. Dante felt the cable slackening. The edge of the building with the faces of his comrades disappeared, and was replaced by the windows of the building flashing by. "Ah shit." He turned around and wrapped the girl with his body. He slammed through a large window, his flak vest taking the force of the glass.

He hit the ground and rolled, dropping the girl on the ground. Dante slammed into a desk. He was slow to get up, but soon found the girl standing next to him, bawling her eyes out. He lifted his right hand to comfort her but saw that it was covered with blood. He opted to use his left hand.

The thud of boots came and Dante whirled, his pistol practically flying into his hand as he brought it about. He heard muffled whispering. The door handle turned, but stopped as automatic weapons fire opened up and stitched bulletholes into the wall and door. Dante pulled the girl behind the cover of the desk and then aimed back at the door.

The door slowly swung open, no one stood in the doorway. "D?" A frightened voice came from around the doorway. Dante smirked and responded. "Ya, it's me." The rest of his group walked in, weapons at the ready. One was dragging a dead SOMI inside.

Dante stood as the group tried to comfort the girl and walked to the SOMI. He policed the body and came back with several grenades and an assault rifle. His Glock-19 was running out of ammo.

"We should keep moving. They'll start looking for this guy when he doesn't report back."

The group nodded and Dante led them from the room. He passed a metal cover in the wall and stopped. He looked back at it and returned to it. He hauled the covering open and stuck his head. A laundry chute. So this was a hotel. At the bottom sat a large laundry bin filled with sheets.

"We'll be safest in the basement. If we go this way, they'll most likely think we found a way out of the building once they search everything else. They're most likely camped in the lobby, and we'd have to go through there to get down."

Someone opened their mouth to argue but Dante had already hopped inside. Several seconds later they heard,"Send the girl now."

Once everyone was safely in the basement, Dante blockaded the door. They couldn't get through that door without explosives. And lots of them.

The group was settling down for an extended stay. Dante folded his arms and sat in the corner.

It was going to be a long night.

(OOC: Through experience I've realized that I work best alone. Damnation beneath the Sands would have been horrible if it was an RP. And I need to finish that story....anyways, this is just going to be a story. Not an RP.

Also, I like to know what people think. Post comments. Even tags would be acceptable.)

Bang!

The sound jerked the survivors out of their sleep. The girl, who when asked had indicated with her hands that she was six, had managed to cling to Dante while he was sleeping. Dante pried the child off and stood up quickly.

Bang!

The group picked up their weapons. Dante drew his pistol and aimed it at the barricaded door. He whispered behind him,"They're going to be blowing that door real soon. We need a quick way out. Find one."

Bang!

The group ran ran off to check all corners of the basement. Dante felt a tug on his leg and looked down. The girl was clinging to his leg, and he tried to push her off.

Silence...

"Dante! I found a way to the sewers!" Dante nodded at the woman and ran over to the grate she had found. He and several others hauled on it until it opened. As the people piled into the sewer, Dante sat back. He rummaged through the stuff he had gotten from the SOMI and pulled out what he was looking for. A brick of black material. He soon found the timer and detonator. This was three times as powerful as SEMTEX, and only found in the arsenal of Sigman soldiers.

He attached the detonator and set the time.

(M/S/MS) 00:30:00

He hurled the brick towards the door and jumped into the sewer, hauling the grate closed. He started running, yelling for those ahead to get a move on it. They all started running, one picking up the girl.

Wham!

The door blew off of it's hinges, taking out the blockade. Soldiers piled in and swept the room, looking for targets. One soldier kneeled down to look at something curious. He picked it up and recognized it. He had one just like it.

(M/S/MS) 00:01:03

"Ah shit...."

A rumble came from behind them. It almost threw the survivors off of their feet. A huge cloud of dust flew over them. The entire group was coughing as the dust cleared.

"Shit Dante, what was that?"

"An explosion,"Dante replied sarcastically.

He got a bunch of mean looks, and then the group continued moving on. Around twenty minutes after they got into the seweres, the radio that Dante had gotten from the SOMI crackled to life.

"...This is to all members of the 175th SOET and 385th SOMI. There is a rebel group moving through the sewers beneath the city. Targets are armed and extremely dangerous and have already killed more than a dozen friendlies. Extreme force authorized."

Dante looked at the group as the started to look frightened. The 175th were legends. They had the highest number of kills of any SOET unit. They were monsters. Dante knew this too. He had almost become a 175th. "Shit. We gotta move. We gotta get outta this city."

The group began to move quicker. The sewer should get them near the edge of town, barring any interference by their hunters. A half hour later, they realized that they were lost. The path had not gone straight, but had curved off. Who knew where they were now.Dante stopped moving and set the girl down, who he had been carrying for the past 20 minutes. "We have to get topside." The others nodded and Dante walked to a nearby ladder. He climbed and was followed closely by the others.

Light came into the sewer as Dante lifted the manhole. He found himself in a large warehouse. No troops were here. He lifted himself out and pulled up the girl. He then helped the rest up. They closed the manhole and moved farther into the warehouse.

"You know, this could be a nice place to settle for a while." Dante shook his head. "There are too many ways in. We'd...." He paused as he heard something. A whirring sound. Only one thing he had ever seen made that sound.

"Fuck! Move!" A torrent of bullets tore through the building's thin walls, catching two people in the party off guard. They were thrown bodily into the far wall as a combination of three mini-guns tore into them.

Dante and the rest ran as fast as they could. "We have to take cover!"
Dante took cover behind a metal beam and pulled the girl so that she was protected by the beam and his body. The whirring began again and the remaining party members scrambled behind a thick metal dumpster.Bullets ricocheted off of metal as they tore into the building. A bullet knicked Dante in the shoulder and he shrunk in even farther, contracting his shoulders. It was not comfortable.

"Sweetheart, I'm going to leave you here for a short while. I'll be back, don't worry." Dante moved slightly so the the girl was between him and the beam. He scanned the interior of the warehouse and saw what he was looking for. A staircase led up to the catwalks that criss-crossed the building. He patted the girl on the head and took off running.

The warning whirr came before a barrage of bullets trailed his path. As he reached the stairs and kept running, he figured out that the Death Adder tank in the street was set on auto. It would fire on anything moving that didn't register friendly in it's IFF. But it wasn't quite bright enough to lead moving targets.

He slid a bit as he came to the top of the stairs. He took off again, the bullets nearly catching him. He reached the wall nearest the street and ran while looking through the windows. The tank was close enough. He jumped and kicked out one foot. The foot kicked on the railing and propelled him through the window. He sailed out of the building in a shower of glass. He landed directly between the two side turrets, on top of the primary turret. The weapons could not rotate to shoot each other, so he had to kill it by seperate means.

He wedged his knife into the locking mechanism on the roof hatch. Within ten seconds it snapped open and he lowered himself inside. The manual controls needed a set of keys to work. Unfortunately, he did not have them. He had no way of taking it into manual. He thought for a few more seconds before drawing his Glock-19. He braced himself as far from the AI housing and aimed his gun. He proceeded to empty his entire clip into the brain of the beast. He felt the machine shut off and the interior went dark. Dante lifted himself out and stepped off of the tank. He called the all clear and the survivors came out to him. One was holding the girl.

"See. Told you I'd be back." The girl giggled. She still hadn't said anything the
entire time he had known her. The survivors went into a nearby alley and began to proceed towards the edge of town.

President Thor watched the proceedings from his viewscreen. He smiled.

"General Rotterdam."

A tallman walked forward. His blue uniform was crisp. Three stars were pinned to the collars on his shirt.

"General Rotterdam reporting as ordered sir."

"General. We are upgrading to Defcon 2. Put our banshee and thunderchief pilots on standby and have them be ready to fly when I give the order. Alert the airborne units."

"What about our naval or land forces sir?" The general asked

"Start loading the infantry and armor onto the cargo planes. Tell our carrier groups to move out."

"If I may ask why sir?"

"I've decided to start operation tomahawk. I'm mobilizing as a mere precaution."

The general saluted and scurried out of the room.

Thor stood there for a moment then lookaed at one of the control technions

"Split screen. Status of situation and status of mobilization."

"Yes sir."

"Open a channel to Snowlander."

"Yes sir"

Thor sighed and waited and hoped

Dante held up his hand signaling to halt. Something wasn't right. His suspicions were confirmed as a shadow fell over him. He Lept backwards as a figure slammed into the ground, cracking the concrete. A cloud of dust flew into the air.

"Run. Don't wait for me." Dante urged the others to leave. They took off running when they realized that he was serious.

As the smoke cleared, the figure could be seen standing. The man had the figure of a SOHAI, one that was incredibly muscled and large. Odd for a SOET. But Dante knew this one.

A slight shimmering could be seen around the gauntlets the SOET wore. His sleeves were torn off up to his shoulders, baring his massive arms. He still wore the pitch black helmet of the SOET, but his had teeth and threatening eyes painted on.

Nelo Black. "The Midnight Devil". That's what they called him.

Ironically, the current freelance music selection was swinging into Rob Zombie's "Devil Man".
Nelo raised a gauntlet-clad hand in a semi-wave. "Yo Dante." He cocked his head to the side, now hearing what was being played. He laughed, a heartless and chilling sound. "I always liked this song. At least I get a good sound to kill you to."

Dante glared at Nelo. It was people like him that made Dante ashamed to be in the military all those years ago. "Let's make this quick Nelo."

Nelo moved quickly for such a big guy, and was raising his fist to strike Dante. Dante swerved to the side, the gauntlet missing his head by a mere inch. A wave of heat swept past Dante, causing him to break into a sweat.

The gauntlet cracked the ground, aided by Nelo's natural strength and the SOET modifications he had in his body. A scrap of paper was thrown into the air by the impact, but it caught on fire as it passed the gauntlet.

Dante rolled to his feet and brought his rifle to bear. Nelo sprang forward and grabbed the weapon by the barrel. A blast of steam came from the gauntlets as they superheated the metal of the gun into a liquid.

Dante dropped the weapon, recoiling against the heat.

Nelo punched one fist into the other and laughed again. "How do you like the new toys. Snowlander beafed the budget, and now I got these babies. I like 'em, how 'bout you?"

Dante drew his knife and crouched into a fighting position. He had to be careful.

Nelo began to stride towards Dante, his hands held out at arms length. A SOHAI fighting style. One designed for huge power with low defense. Nelo could take hits, and he knew it.

"Why do you fight for Snowlander. The people in this town are innocents. They aren't hostiles."

"Oh, you know. The 175th and I, we are all special cases. Word has it you didn't get in because you lacked the mental.......requirements. "

Dante stepped backwards as Nelo continued to close the distance between them. "What? Being completely insane?"

Nelo lept forward bringing in a left hook. Dante ducked it and slammed his blade into the man's side.

Nelo stumbled past and fell to his knees. Dante sighed and began to turn away.

Nelo stood quickly and held out his hand. "You think a knife can kill me? Ha." The blade fell to the ground, blood all along it's length.

Dante turned and caught a quick glimpse of something he could use to his advantage. He couldn't see any more as Nelo turned to face him. Blood leaked from the cut in Nelo's armor. Nelo gripped his hands and the heat could be seen dissapating. He then unlatched the armor and it fell to the ground.

His torso was covered with cuts and hand shaped burns. Apparently Nelo was a masochist. "That shit only slows me down. Time to kick it up a notch. Like that chef guy." He slammed his fist into a light post, bending it. "Bam! Hahaha!"

Dante took this time to attack. He drew the knife from his boot as he vaulted over Nelo's head. He then threw the knife into the metal box implanted in his back. The wires leading to the gauntlets had been the tipoff of the box's existance.

As the knife impacted, electricity surged into Nelo's body. The current went through the gauntlet into the pole, overloading the lightbulb, causing it to explode in a shower of sparks. After Nelo shook violently for a few seconds, he went still. He dropped to his knees and then fell onto his face. Smoke could be seen rising from the man's body.

Dante stood and turned to run after his group to ensure that they were safe. He was gone shortly, leaving the body in the street.

He ran through the alleyway he had sent them, hoping that they hadn't actually gone too far. He soon saw them. They were walking. He caught up and the group continued on their way.

"Huh...whaaa?"

Nelo lifted himself to his hands and knees. He coughed and tasted copper. Blood. His helmet was filled with it. He removed his helmet and sat down on the curb. His memory was fuzzy.

A knife.

What about a knife?

...

DANTE!

Nelo struggled to his feet and scanned the area. Blood covered him in the many places where his skin was cracked through from the heat of the shock. He could feel that the gauntlets had fused with his forearms.

He lifted his head and started yelling maniacally,"See! Told you a knife couldn't kill me! I'm coming for you dante!"

He began striding in the direction that Dante's friends had gone. He would be with them.

And they would die.

Suddnley the roar of jet engines roared overhead. Fighter Planes raced across the sky. Inside a Valkarie hellicopter, nicknamed Seminole 7, Major. Barrak "beserker" Stockholm stared at the red light near the front of the helicopter. He was in the airborne corps and his orders were to drop into the city with the rest of the paratroopers all 150 of them. Suprisingly he had not heard reports of any of the helicopters being shot at or any of the support jets firing any shots in anger. He looked at the city below. Soem parts were ruins soem parts stood normally. He found the reports he had heard about the city hard to believe. He looked at the men in his copter. They were all dressed in black and grey Urban camoflauge. They had black boots, gloves and balcava. They wore black M1 ballistic helmets. with Night Vison goggles attached to them. They had small black ALICE packs on their backs and they straddeled H&K 505's. Some men wore ammo pouches strapped to their legs or belt. Soem men carried medi packs in their bags. At least 4 of the 20 men had machine guns or other special equipment.

"The light suddnley turned green and the chopper slowed down. Each man crawled to the two doors on either side. The men formed 5 lines. Each man at the front grabbed a black rope. The doors flew open and one by one each man grabbed the rope and dropped to the rooftop of a small building. Major Stockholm looked around adn watched the saem event unfold on similar buildings. Above him the chopper whirrled away. Without sayign a word, he motioned to his men to follow him. They snaked to a rooftop door adn split into two lines. Stockholm adjusted his headset.

"Alright Cahow lets R.S.V.P."

A man snaked forward and crouche dnex tto the door. He pulled out a small charge and placed it on the door frame. He then made a circe lout of the wires and then crawled back to his spot. The two lines creeped back slightly. He signaled to the man infront of him. Two flashes and a smoke then its party time. The man nodded. Stockholm reached back and squeezed the thigh of the man behind him. Each man repead the action. At the end of the line the man squeezed the shoulder of the man infront of him. When Stockholm felt the squeeze he shouted into his radio

"go!"

A small boom followed. Stockholm adn the man on the other side of the door tossed two grenades in. There was a bang and a trail of smoke. The man on the otherside of the door then rushed through the door and each man in his line followed him. Stockholm folled the last man. Through his headset Stockholm could hear the rest of the men following suit.
