Omani invasion! [Earth II]

Cotland
25-04-2005, 22:03
In the dark of the night, two Cottish Amphibious Assault Forces, covered by two Nimitz strike groups and one Ynoga strike group started to fire cruise missiles and shells towards the defenses and cities of the Oman. Come dawn, almost thirty thousand marines would assault the land, which had gone under in a hail of anarchy weeks ago. The ravaged remains were enough for Cotland to decide that now was the time to take control of the land. Those thirty thousand would be just the first in a wave of soldier that were to jump out over Oman when the Marines had established a beachhead. The initial assault would take place approximately twenty-five kilometers south-east of the capital city of Muscat, near the village of Bandar Khayran.

OOC: Need someone to RP resistance.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT BY THE HIGH SULTAN OF ELEPHANTUM
We congradulate you on your attempts at removing the foul Industrial Empire from the face of this great Earth. We would like to aid you however we can. Supplies can be flown in from Bahrain, and limited amounts of fighters and bombers can make runs over Oman, if you so desire. We are also very much interested in controlling the Musandam Peninsula, and will do what we can to acquire that.

Pending invasion, we would like to open a consulate in Muscat to facilitate trade and travel between our Middle Eastern lands.

-EDIT-Assuming successful invasion of Soviet Arabia, we will be land neighbors. The current plan gives me nearly all of S. Saudi, and the entire east coast

The Empire appreciate and accept the assistance offered from our long-time ally Elephantum, and are willing to seceede the peninsula when we have established control. All we wish is a small naval base somewhere on the peninsula. Also, the consulate in Muscat is accepted. You may start construction once we take over the city.

Imperial Government of Cotland

Will you require monetary compensation for the peninsula, or will the base be enough? A naval base is fine by us, assuming you follow the same rules as you did with your Gambian base (no nukes, no abusing the populace, etc.)

The Empire does not require anything but the base and some rights to sail in the waters near the Strait of Hormuz. We will follow the rules established with the Gambian base.

ooc:here we go. :)

IC:As the missiles struck the base, a klaxon sounded, Fighters and Bombers took off into the night to fight the unseen foe.
Down by the water, the men had no time to react before the bombs destroyed the pier they were standing on.
Abord teh Niswa, a large cruiser, the large unwieldly guns turned to face the horizon.
XO: 20 dgrees to the south men! READY! FIRE!!!!
With that the niswa began the bombardment of the enemy fleet. 50 shells were fired. On its companion ship, a missile cruiser, The Tawa, the Sea SLAM missilse shot off of their racks.

Already on the way towards the strike group, were 3 Han III class attack boats on foils, each of the boats held 8 Mark 24 highspeed torpedoes. abord the ships, the men were nervouse, they were only around the age of 17, yet they had to fight a war against people who were trained killers.

The escort vessels to the carriers detected the incoming missiles and immediately sounded the Vampire alert. The CIWS systems came online and faced the direction of the incoming missiles. Two Arleigh Burke class destroyers were the first victims of the shells fired from the Omani defenders, while the CIWS of the rest of the vessels took care of the incoming missile. It took 30 000 20mm rounds, but they finally took it out. Trouble was that it was destroyed only three hundred meters from one of the cruisers, and consecuensly damaged the superstructure of the Ticonderoga class cruiser heavily enough to put it out of action. The next course of action for the Cottish task force was to find and kill the ships who fired the missile and shells.

The incoming attack boats were detected by fighters in the air and the information was immediately relayed to the fleet, who waited till they could detect the vessels on radar and lock their AGM-84 Harpoon SSMs. When they were within range, the ships fired their Harpoons. Two per target. The cruisers also carried a finite amount of BGM-109 Tomahawk cruise missiles (TASM). When they were locked, the cruiser fired two per cruiser.

OOC:

Losses:

Arleigh Burke class destroyer: 2 (heavily damaged/sinking)
Ticonderoga class cruiser: 1 (damaged)

Missiles fired:

BGM-109 Tomahawk: 4

ooc:edid complete. ill respond to your post when i get home. maby in 30 min.

ooc:besides the tawa and the niswa, i have 30 han 3's, 10 han 5's, i have 2 more missile crusiers: Fatwa and Tamkwa. 2 more battle ships, soti and thalwat. if you want to make this interisting, we could say that i also have 1 wolf pack of akulas, and 1 typhoon class fleet ballistic missile sub. we could sorta re-enact something from "Sea Strike" a good game of cat and mouse.

my infintry use rpk's, ak-47's, some have rpgs, lets assume, just as in vietnam, that indigneos forces are everywhere. the further in you get, the more primitive my forces get. bows and arrows, spears, small explosives are typical. think the bouncing bettys that the viet cong used. my forces are going to be mostly small groups, 10-30 peaople. they are fine with taking weapons they find on dead bodies. assume that i have 3 t-42's.

IC: The Tawa and Niswa, after confermation that the Han's were torn apart by the missile strike, and after realizing that missiles were aimed at them put p a good defencive fight. Missile after missile was fired in the dirction of the missiles while the tawa ran. However, none of the missiles hit, both the tawa and niswa recieved hits on hte bow deck. they would sink within minutes.

the Fatwa, Tamkwa, soti, and thalwat began persuing the enemy ships. with them were 15 Han 3's and the other 8 Han 5's. They are yet to pick them up on radar.

Meenwhile on land:
the 1st battalian (90 men) were preparing for the beach landing. With them were the rpg's that they would need to unleash a missile strike upon the landing craft and the infentry they unloaded.

Casualities:
8 Han 3's
Tawa, Niswa

OOC: Ok, but you do know that Oman consists mainly of desert, right? And I did send four cruise missiles towards your cruisers.

IC:

The radar sites detected even more ships inbound, but now the Cots had fighters in the air. Air superiority fighters of the type F-22N Sea Raptor and fighterbombers of the type F/A-18F Super Hornet, to be exact. Twelve F-22Ns and 30 F/A-18Fs. The F-22Ns were armed with AMRAAMs and Sidewinders, and the F/A-18Fs were armed with six AGM-84 Harpoons, two AIM-120C AMRAAM and two AIM-9X Sidewinder, in addition to the 370 gallon fuel tanks mounted under the wings. They headed for the enemy ships, skimming the sea at only 100 feet.

The escort vessels moved into position to block for the incoming enemy ships, and unleashed a hail of Harpoons and TASMs towards the ships. The three escort subs in the group were near the enemy ships as well, and fired all in all six UGM-84 Harpoons towards the ships. The Cots needed to gain air and sea superiority before they could land the Marines.

Missiles:

AGM/UGM-84 Harpoon: 72 (heading for the Hans and cruisers)

Time:Just before the cottish forces fired

After seeing the reckage of the Takwa and Niswa, the Omani commanders decided on a last ditch effort to atleast dammage the cotish fleet. all guns raised, missiles on racks, torpedoes in position. They fired at once, aiming at the coordinates of the cottish fleet, hoping that the spread of shot and missiles will cause some dammage to the fleet and the submarines underneath.

After 10 salvoes, the cottish missiles hit. turining that part of the ocean into a churning ball of foam, oil, steel, and fire. all hands lost.

A variety of planes and helicopters from the Elephanti Air force were flying over Oman, aiding the Cots in taking power. They had already lost a Predator, two Chinooks, and an Apache, and were careful about losing more. They distributed food and water to civilians, and gathered intelligence for the Cots. They were also armed to the teeth, in case there were any Industial planes left.

OOC: No, I don't think so.

IC: The Omani shelling of the fleet proved disasterous. Three escort vessels were severly damaged, one frigate was sunk and the aircraft carrier ICS Horrible was lightly damaged, just enough to suspend flight operations for that day. However, the radars on the circling E-2C Hawkeye detected several ships inbound. This info was relayed to the flagship ICS Willie Nelson, a Bismarck II class battleship, who immediately sent a flight of 16" shells after the hostiles along with twenty AGM-84 Harpoons. Two per Han 3 and three per Han 5. The shells were for the finishing off of the enemy ships.

After the hostile navy had been destroyed, the Cots prepared for the landing, Cotland style! The two Bismarck II class battleships turned their 16" main guns towards the beach where they would land the Marines in four hours and fired away. The shells were accompanied by a wide array of shiplaunched BGM-109 Tomahawk TLAM-Cs and smaller AGM-114 Hellfire missiles fired from the attack choppers based on the Wasp class amphibious assault ships. It was enough firepower to completely level a small city. Or a beach defense site, whichever was closest. It was four hours till dawn, and the start of the assault.

Dawn (0520 hours)
The naval bombardment had been in progress for four hours now, leaving the beach and everything within 800 meters of the sea to waste. This was when the attack helicopters and AV-8B+ Harrier IIs took off from the decks of the assault ships. They were followed suit by Sea Stallions and Hueys filled with Marines, as well as LCU-2000s, LCACs and AAAVs filled with men and equipment. The first Cottish marine on the ground was Lieutenant Colonel Peter "Howitzer" Robson of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Force. He wasn't alone on the beach though. Right behind him he was accompanied by more then 1 000 marines and scores of equipment. The first wave. The Marines quickly spread out, keeping their XM-8s at the ready while the AAAVs and Strykers kept watch. No enemy with brains would dare to go against this landing force, unless he had similar numbers behind him.

The task of the Marines were to capture a beachhead and a moderate size airport so the Cots could start flying in Army soldiers and equipment from Lakshadweep. Seven divisions were ready to assist the Marines in taking over the land of Oman. The transport ships were already on their way, carrying tanks, IFVs, APCs, trucks, cannons, ammo and of course soldiers. More men were waiting at the airport in Lakshadweep, waiting for the Marines to capture an airport so they could fly in. The Marines just had to capture the airport first!

After three hours, the now 23 800 Marines in Oman had progressed five kilometers inland, securing enough for the remaining 6 000 marines and remaining equipment to be unloaded and prepared for combat. Their next target would be the 2200 meter long airstrip near the town of As Sifah (latitude 23° 26' N, longitude 58° 46' E). It was long enough for the C-130J Hercules transports based in Bahrain to land and take off on, at least for the time being. The Marines had to negotiate ten kilometers of hostile land to take the airstrip. Fortunately they had plenty of air and naval support.

The Marines moved on, destroying anything in their way. If their light armour couldn't take it out, they called in the Harriers and Cobras, and even some of the F/A-18Fs, F-22Ns and F-29Bs of the navy were available for support. While the Marines seemed to move away from Muscat, it all had a meaning. They had to take an airfield to ferry in more troops and light armour so they could secure a city with harbors so they could land heavy armour before they could take Muscat. It was perfectly logical. But the Omanis were putting up a heck of a fight. So far, the casualties were 100 Marines dead, and twice that wounded. The Marines had also lost two attack helicopters of the type AH-1W Super Cobra. This could not go on!

As the recon marines (force of 200 Marines total) moved ahead of the main force (approx. 18 000 Marines), a team (20 men) came across an Omani SAM fortification. Throwing themselves to the ground immediately, they opened fire with their XM-8s and M35s while lobbing some grenades in the general direction of the Omanis. They did have four Humvees (uparmoured). More precisely M1114s equipped with heavy machine guns spitting out 15.5 x 105 mm rounds. Those MGs were used as well against the Omani defenders. Hopefully there weren't too many defenders.

OOC: The team weaponry consist of the following

XM-8 infantry rifle (6,8 x 43mm): 14

M35 light machine gun (7,62 x 51mm): 4

The 50cal machine guns of the main hive were scilent as the Cottish forces began their assault. Very few shots were fired by any defenders. The reason for this was what appeard to be a mass suicide. bodies lay clumped in small groups, leading into the center of the encampment. however, the further in, the less it seemed like a suicide. many of the dead omani soldiers were found shot in the back of the head. deeper inside the cavern was a huge room. what looked like a sancuary. in hte center of the room was a small chest. a welcomeing present to the cottish forces.

"There aren't anyone left alive here sir," the Sergeant told his Lieutenant. This was getting creepy.

"Hey, I found something! It's a chest. Let's see whats inside...."

The Sergeant heard the four PFCs inside the cave yell out, and before he could say no, the whole cave shook. Some flames came rushing towards the Marines near the mouth of the cave, burning them a little before the flames receeded to the cave.

It took the other Marines a few minutes to recover before they rushed to the cave, disregarding their wounds. But it was too late. The only thing left of the four PFCs were burned bones and some lumps of metal. Another four men had given their lives for their fatherland. Four more telegrams and folded flags for the families of the dead.
