The British Pound as an International Currency

"I have viewed many nations in the world using the United States' Dollar as their international general currency, well I think this is wrong! The British Pound is a stronger currency, from a much more respected and tactful nation which has had a successful economy longer than the United States has been around, and until recently and overall much stronger economy full stop. Feline Catfish already uses the British Pound as our standard international currency, and we invite other nations to do the same and create the International Consortium of Pound Utilising Nations! Join us, and improve your economy!"

well technically, people use the USD because most calculaters calculate their national currencies into the USD
ex. 1 Credit=1.716 USD
not 1 Credit=1.716 Pounds
OOC: I have my own currency (the crown), but I use dollars internationally because it's easier and more convient for everyone than converting crowns to dollars and then to Nation X's currency.
IC:
We wish you luck, though we ourselves have no desire to change our current monetary denominations.

ooc: I don't mean you have to change your national currency to the pound on the nation thing, just post storefront prices and things in pounds insteead of dollars.

However, the last survey I saw indicated that a majority of players in this game hail from the United States. Besides that, the influence of the American dollar has been rather pervasive for a while. It's probably the easiest currency to use as a basis for comparison to an individual Nation|States country's. I use that in just about all of my RPs instead of the Sarzonian dollar, even though it's now worth more. ^_^

If anyone is going to run to Moderation, it'll be to ask to have this topic closed - pointless spam. As it's already been explained, the USD is just simply, the easiest conversion currency for NS versions of monetary values. I use the douro mostly in my RPs because conveniently, it is fixed at 1 douro = $2 US, like Hamptonshire. Otherwise, on other posts, I use the USD for the convenience of other users.

[OOC: How is an IC request from a national leader pointless spam? In the real world which currency nations use on the world market is actually an important decision. Just saying...]

It's pointless spam because it's a ridiculous thing to ask and a worthless task to take on. Nothing against the British pound, but these forums would be a mess if thousands of nations were to make a switch. You see what happens with the whole "what do you think of my RPing" bandwagon, what's to stop nations from making thousands of individual topics about their own switch to using the British pound in their RPs? It's just a stupid thing to ask.

[OOC: In your opinion (there aren't thousands of RPers anyway, but whatever). I'm not defending him, but it's unfair to say an IC action is pointless spam. I doubt it'll catch on, but he's still entitles to have his gov't say things.]

OOC: Of course. I didn't say he didn't have that right, but if he wants nations to follow his lead, he should TG them or contact them on IRC before setting up the thing, or at least make the introductory post a little better, instead of bashing the currency used by NS for over 2 years and demanding that nations switch to the UK pound simply because it's "better".

[OOC: I think what he should have done from a RP standpoint is to outline a detailed reason for switching the currency of comparisons from the U.S. dollar to the British pound, preferrably using facts instead of simply bashing the American dollar (and to an extent, Americans themselves) to buttress his point.
If he wanted the people involved with the game itself to convert the coding, he probably should have approached the issue in Technical or Gameplay, but he likely would also have had to convince the people who create the various economic calculators to convert to pounds instead of dollars. Those all would have been tremendously difficult.
For the sake of this thread, I'd like to suggest not turning it into a debate about anything other than the in topic, in character proposal.
P.S. Prae, check the Woodstock Pact boards. You've got mail (well, a PM).]
