PORT YUKO, Bonstock: On condition of anonymity, a Bonstocknian Defense Department spokesman released data on Project Zeus, a DoD program to base nuclear warheads in space.

"SDI systems have proliferated to the point where ICBMs and strategic bombers are almost useless as nuclear detterants," the unidentified spokesman said. "This weapons system will allow Bonstock to strike any nation."

A few hours later, in a press confrence at the Presidential Compound, President Gustavsson confirmed the existance of the program, which until now has been labelled Top Secret.

"The idea was concieved after international opinion forced the cancellation of the T-1 super-bomb," said the President. "We believe that this weapon will not be as offensive to international opinion."

No timetable was given for its deployment. "Although there are several test modules already under development at an un-identified airbase, the system will not be in place for many years," mentioned President Gustavsson.

Tantalyzingly few details have been given about the project. However, the President mentioned "We are willing to work with the international community to help make this weapon the most potent detterant it can be. Our allies are welcome to help out with the project, and would share the ability to use it."

Analysts have feared, however, that this project would cause international concern. The Bonstocknian based think tank Peace Now! released this statement: "The government ought to cancel the project. It will spark an arms race that the Federal Republic will be unable to control. Furthermore, should it cause large devastation, the Federal Republic would be blamed."

However, President Gustavsson said, "We believe this is a necessary project that is needed to maintain the security of the Federal Republic and the credibility of our nuclear detterance. With it, we will be able to preserve our security for many years to come."

Also, plans were laid out to arm sattelites with projectiles that would reenter the atmosphere and destroy targets like hardened bunkers by sheer force of their impact. Such a system would, in the words of President Gustavsson, "Give the Bonstocknian High Command the ability to strike anywhere in the world within a matter of minutes, if not seconds. Enemies will have no warning of this strike, and whole commands could be devestated with the push of a big red button."

President Gustavsson was quoted as saying, "This is the way Bonstock's wars will be fought in the future. With a push of a button, wars will be won within hours of their declaration. These new systems will be of great aid to ourselves and our allies, and should be used to their fullest potential. International opinion will not cause their cancellation."
