Sel Appa invades Aequatio

In planning for over a month and a half, the first groups of soldiers and weapons are being loaded onto hired Macabeean ships. Exact troop numbers being deployed was only said to be in the ten-thousands and will likely increase to over one hundred thousand soldiers. Their destination: Aequatio, a huge nation grouped over three main continents. The main reason given for this invasion is "to spread Democracy and increase Domestic wealth by establishing a Colony in Aequatio." The invasion is called Operation Swift Liberty.

In addition to the troops, the 35,000-plus helicopters that are now built and staffed are being readied. They will be transported by Macabeean Carriers. This will be their first real-combat testing and they are expected to pull through well.

Two weeks later... (Evening)

"There, the Miral Peninsula. Contact Head Command." said the captain.

The lieutenant relayed the info to HC.

"Good, the cavalry will be launched soon. You land first though. We're readying a missile to explode on the beach near Desedna. But only right before you land so you are already landed when they turn on their radar."

"Yes sir!"

The soldiers began to prepare for landing on the beaches of the Miral peninsula. It was only hours away...

Desedna
A missile from the south roared into the area and slammed into the beach. Few people were in the area at the time, but within minutes, sirens blared Aequatian soldiers prepared themselves for whatever might happen...

Miral Peninsula
The soldiers crept out of their ships onto the beaches. Meanwhile, helicopters were closing in and readying their weapons. Tanks and artillery werebeing unloaded. The attack would begin at dawn...

Arnold Saltzman's Apartment, Arrio, Aequatio

General Arnold Saltzman, Chief of Staff, was sleeping quietly with his wife when the ringing of his telephone awoke him and groggily he picked it up to answer, "This better be good."

His assistant, a young lieutenant-colonel, responded, "Far from it, Sir, we may have a serious situation on our hands! We need you down here, immediately!"

Somewhat worried, he replied, "All right, but what is it?"

"We believe that an invastion force may be or have landed on Neo Aequatius!" the lieutenant-colonel explained.

"Good God... I'm on my way!"

--- 15 minutes later...

Central Command, Arrio, Aequatio

General Saltzman walked into the war room, his uniform still neatly pressed from the day before, "What's the problem, why didn't our radar stations pick up an invasion fleet?"

"We're not sure, all we have right is a missile striking the beach south of Desedna," answered a major, his cap and uniform jacket sitting on the back of his chair, "They'll probably land there and cut off any reinforcements coming in from the mainland from Canak."

Saltzman turned to General Von Mann, Commander-in-Chief of the Army, "Do whatever you can to hold Desedna and that causeway across to Canak, we cannot lose that avenue for reinforcements."

The general was worried, "Sir, that could jeopardize our positions around the rest of the island!"

"It doesn't matter, that city is the most important in that island's defence, without that causeway across that strait, we lose our chances to hold the rest of the island, then we don't need to worry as our forces would be destroyed piecemeal throughout Neo Aequatius," replied Saltzman, "Besides, as long as we activate the Civil Defence Plan and rely on air power to hold them back until we can mobilize our forces to repel any attack."

"Yes Sir, although I still do not like the idea of pulling my forces back to act as bridge defence," said Von Mann.

"Like it or not, we don't have a choice!" threw back Saltzman before turning to Admiral Langsdorff, "What do we have that we could deploy from Rhanda to repel an enemy fleet?"

"We have the entire 4th Fleet, although it only contains a single Carrier Strike Group and a Battleship Strike Group," explained Langsdorff, "Although if needed, we can deploy units from the 1st Fleet at Magna Casa to support fleet movements."

"We don't know what we're up against yet, but mobilize the 4th Fleet and have them move around to the southern coast of Neo Aequatius and prepare them for battle," ordered the general, "As well, what Marine units do we have stationed there?"

"We could deploy the 9th Marine Division from Espandor as part of MDLF 3, although that would take up to 72 hours to muster the division and prepare the ships for deployment," said Langsdorff.

"Do it, we may need them as defence, have them sail for Rhanda," Saltzman told the grizzled admiral before turning back to Von Mann, "What do we have garrisoned in Neo Aequatius?"

The general rustled through his papers before taking out an order of battle, "Active, we have three infantry divisionsand two armoured, with three other infantry divisions on reserve status. All toll, just over 19,500 infantry with around 144 tanks active, with just about 19,500 infantry in reserve."

"Not nearly enough, what can we deploy from Canak?" Questioned Saltzman.

"Not much more, an infantry division and another armoured, along with another infantry division in reserve, that's only 12,400 infantry and 72 tanks," said Von Mann.

Saltzman turned to Air Force Marshal Erich Strasser, "Tell me some good news and what we've got in the area."

"I have two brigades stationed at Collins Air Force Base near Miral and three deployed at Ericsson Air Force Base at Desedna, with another two at Montgomery Air Force Base near Canak," explained Strasser, "If we needed as well, there are four right now at Peters Air Force Base in Piscina."

"They will be needed, badly if this is a complete invasion," said Saltzman, "General Von Mann, muster the Home Guard Regiments around Neo Aequatius and organize them into proper divisions, we'll need the peasant army to aid us in this fight."

"Yes Sir, right away."

"This is going to be one hell of a fight," said the general as he stepped over to the tactical map, a freshly lit cigarette in his hand.

EDIT: Proper numbers in.

OOC: I'd rather fight this one on my own, as much planning has gone into this for a mano-a-mano dukefest and a test of my home defence readiness. If it should escalate into something furthur, I'm sure it'll be all right to jump on in. SF insertion for observation of the conflict is welcomed, that and I'm sure it'd be cool to see and play out.

"...in order to continue the uncountered success rate, it is impervious that we do not disreguard the blantent fact that..." the viedo clip droned on and on. Battalion General (O3) Mills shut the email, and went on to #72. He was tired of reading thought diplomatic junk. Oh boy, another transmission, he thought. Why don't they just send all this to the BAC, they are the spooks, not us. Mills thought. The army was not a place for diplomatic codes and peacetime jargon. He browsed through the subjects, until #94. It seemed that it could have some excitement. He opened it. It read,

Global Sat. #2 in the GPS-DS system has located and targeted military

"...not sure, all we have **** is a missile striking the beach south

"...Do **** can to hold Desedna **** causeway across to ****

As you can see, someone is invading. Aequatio has ties to Crimmond,
Automagfreek, and other nations.

The email went on. Mills decided to bring it up at a meeting in about 3 hours. But, he had to be prepaired. He swiveled in his chair, thinking about his course of action. Thoughts of SF, bombardments, and even calling in the AF crosses his mind. He reached for the phone to call his assistant, when he walked in the door,
"Sir, do you need something?" the Colonel (O6) asked, stopping in the doorframe.
"Why, in fact, I do. Dobbs, I need you to draw up a powerpoint about email number 94. I want pros and cons of the list of COA's on my desk. I need this by 1400." The general said, all in one long breath.
"Yes sir, do you want it uploaded to your palm, or just on the server?" Dobbs asked.
"The server is fine Dobbs, I'll be going to lunch now." Mills replied.
"Yes sir."

BUMS, Unknown meeting room
The breifing had just ended, and the verdict from Marcus Grunnmen was to sent SF for recon and survelience. However, Marcus left who to send up to Mills. His gut instinct told him ghosts would be fine, but he was thinking, that because of the high profile, Jaggs would be in order. 10 hours later, and 6 cups of coffee, and Mills had his plan.

The Jagg team of 7 was secured in the belly of a Z-7. Inside the belly, a C-39SF (helo) was strapped in. That was to be their insertion method. Another group of 3 Jaggs was inside a Z-11. They were parachuting in. Still another group of 4 Jaggs were onboard a converted Watson class cargo ship. They had a mini-sub and some zodiacs for insertion. As of the momment, the Z-7 and the Z-11 were flying 1 click apart. They would hold this formation until they got within 250 clicks. Then the Z-7 would relese the C-39SF, and it would turn around. The Z-11 would continue to it's dropoff point. The Watson class would be in waiting for further outcome of the battle, but when the time is right, those Jaggs would be in the heat of the battle. This would all come in due time.

OOC:
For Z-plane reference, go here. (http://home.att.net/~mlbr24/z.htm)

So, I have a helo coming in and dropping my boys off from the SE-ish, onto your Easter-most island, into that rainforest (I can't see the map, I'm going off memory). I have a Z-11 (sealth) coming in and dropping 3 guys right by the road from the southern island to the eastern island, but they will still be in the rainforest. The Watson will be loitering out of the "Danger Zone" so to speak.

Miral, Neo Aequatius

Collins Air Force had not seen such commotion since the last time the nation was nearly invaded by the forces of Belem so many years ago, aircraft were rolled out onto the tarmac and were prepared for a scramble launch as support crews tended to aircraft not yet ready for immediate flight. Air Force Security had been stepped up as armoured cars and guards with full equipment stood ready at the entrances to the base and ran the wire along the perimeter. Patriot PAC-3 missile launchers sat around strategic points around the base, "eyes to the skies" so to speak, they were fully prepared for launch against any enemy aircraft foolish enough to wander into radar contact.

Just a few kilometres away outside the city, Federal Army units were preparing defensive positions as the Civil Defence Plan was put into action. Civilians who were not capable of serving with the Home Guard units were either evacuated from the city or sent to designated security zones dictated by the military and police forces. The city's armouries were opened up as the Home Guard divisions were mustered and organized to aid the Regular Army units in defence of their city. This was the first activation of the Civil Defence Plan since the chemical missile attack by the nation of Federban, but once again Aequatian citizens didn't miss a beat in following its instructions.

Desedna, Neo Aequatius

As was the situation in Miral, it was tenfold in Desenda due to the priority and importance placed on the city and due to the fact it had the only large airport in the area, so while military vehicles and tanks moved out to take up positions to protect the city center, civilian vehicles such as buses and personal automobiles went the other way to either the Regional airport or along the causeway to Canak on Aequatius Secundus.

Central Command, Arrio, Aequatio

General Saltzman sat at the head of the large table in the war room, an hour cold coffee sat in front of him beside a stack of papers, filled with movement reports, satellite photographs and battle strategies. He turned to General Von Mann and spoke, "Krist, how many Home Guard divisions have been mustered in Neo Aequatius?"

Von Mann quickly went through his own stack of reports, "We have two deployed in Miral, four in Desedna and two in Rhanda, around 51,850 soldiers. However, they aren't as well-trained or equipped as our regular forces."

"It'll have to do, have them positioned on the line with the other forces already mobilized, we need to protect the cities," ordered Saltzman.

"Yes Sir, right away."

OOC: I just realized I messed up in the counting in my first post for the amount of troops I actually have deployed, I'll be putting in the new numbers since a division is actually around 6,500 troops, not 2000 as I had put in.

General Harry Stevens: "Good. Do what needs to be done. We need to take what we can ASAP. The cavalry is going to bomb Miral as much as they can...we might send in a few PBs also."

The lieutenant walked off and informed the others. Meanwhile, General Stevens prepared a report to send home.

Desedna, Neo Aequatius

Lieutenant-General Barnes, commander of Aequatian forces on the island of Neo Aequatius, sat in his field headquarters at Ericsson Air Force Base looking over orders and reports from CentCom in Arrio. His second-in-command, Major-General Tomlinson, sat opposite him reading tactical maps before looking up and grabbing Barnes' attention, "Sir, we haven't read any activity anywhere near Desedna, perhaps the threat is somewhere else on the island?"

Barnes looked up from his own work, "Where else could they land? The beaches near Rhanda and the Miral Peninsula."

"They wouldn't attempt a landing near Rhanda, with the 4th Fleet positioned there, they would get pulverized and pushed back into the ocean," said the young general, "Miral is the only sure spot, but that's a long coastline to search for a landing force."

"True, but it has been a while since the first signs of any invasion," explained Barnes, "By now they may have landed several divisions and we wouldn't even know it since we haven't been looking."

"Then perhaps it's time we did," said Barnes as he grabbed his cap and headed for the door, "We should be calling CentCom about this as well, they'll want to know for deployment purposes."

Central Command, Arrio, Aequatio - 20 minutes later...

General Saltzman was sleeping in his quarters when he was awakened by a young corporal with the message sent by Lieutenant-General Barnes, tired but still sober about his duty, he got up and read the message:

To: General Saltzman, Chief of Staff, ARCENTCOM, Arrio
From: Lieutenant-General Barnes, ARSOUTHCOM, Desedna
Re: New Threat Assessment, Request Redeployment

Deployment of forces incorrect, likely landing zone near Miral, along Western
and South-Western coastline, request order for redeployment of current forces
to counter new threat.

"Send a message back, tell them to have reconaissance aircraft and ground units search that coastline and the peninsula, if they find anything, we move," Saltzman ordered the corporal.

"Yes Sir."

1-3rd Reconaissance Battalion, C Company, 3rd Infantry Division Headquarters, Miral, Neo Aequatius - 2 hours later...

Captain Matthews sat in the hatch of his Crusader recce tank looking out to the rest of his company, Colonel Davis had recieved orders from Divisional HQ for the movement of the whole battalion in an attempt to find the enemy's positions if they were out there along the coast in co-operation to air operations being conducted by Air Force F-33R reconaissance aircraft and AC-130A Spectre gunships. He whistled loudly to get his 2iC Officer's attention and the lieutenant saluted before disappearing back into his own tank and shutting the hatch. As soon as he had done so, Matthews told the recon team inside to hold onto something as he ordered his driver to move out. Along with Matthews' company, the two others in his battalion and the recon battalions of the 6th Infantry and 1st Armoured Divisions were taking part in the operation.

Z-7, 250 clicks out, SE of Aequatio
+1 day AOR
0550

The C-39SF was being lowered out of the back of the Z-7, it's roters already whirling. Jagg team Ghetto was strapped in, their dogtags and Barbarosean patches left in the big bird. The coptor cleared the Z-7, and they were off. The pilot, also a Jagg, took the altitude to a nice 35ft. The co-pilot engaged the stealth systems, and they started moving. Ghetto leader, B. Grunnmen was sitting next to the deployment door. He had one of the 2 mini-boats that they would use when they got closer strapped on his back. They were a little behind schedule, so the pilot hurried them in. They were approaching 15 clicks out.

The 3 Jaggs, team Raptor, were gearing up for the insertion. Another 20 minutes, and they would be over target. Leader M. Scrapton was checking his GPS-DS reciver. It worked. His sniper and spoter were going over hand signals, which is what all Jagg's did when they were bored. So far, the plan had been working. They were now 5 clicks out, and Raptor made ready. The mini-door opened, and M. Scrapton was out.

Miral Peninsula, West Coast of Neo Aequatius

Captain Matthews' company had approached a quiet section of the beach, the small tanks coming to a stop overlooking the quiet night, all that could be heard was the rumble of the petrol engines and the sound of the gentle waves washing up on the beach down below. The captain poked his torso out of the turret as the recon teams disembarked from the vehicles to set up a perimeter and he grabbed a pair of binoculars with the nightvision filters on them. They had been rolling all night along the coastline and had found nothing, the silence was broken by a voice over the radio, "Romeo-One-Three-Charlie, this is Spectre-One... Request your current position, Over!

Matthews reached down into the turret and pulled out his comm-link, "This is Romeo-One-Three-Charlie, Spectre-One, we are currently at grid reference 049, 360 and have not made contact with enemy forces, Over."

"Roger that, Romeo-One-Three-Charlie, we will move ahead to the next grid and continue our search from the sky, battalion orders you move out from your position to fifteen clicks sierra of your current position and make contact with us again there, Spectre-One over and out!"

Matthews put the comm-link back before giving a loud whistle, "Pack 'em in, we're moving out, Davis wants us fifteen clicks South from here, they want us to run along the coastline until we hit ocean again or make contact with any enemy elements!" And with that the recon soldiers quickly remounted their respective vehicles and the little tanks kicked up sand as they headed off the beach to move along the thin treeline that ran parallel to the coast.

Neo Aequatius Over-Channel Cuaseway, South of Canak, Aequatius Secundus

Main battle tanks and numerous other armoured vehicles rolled across one of the sides of the eight-lane bridge as civilian traffic was detoured to the other side. These were the elements of the 21st Armoured and 32nd Infantry Divisions as they had come from Canak to reinforce the defenders of Neo Aequatius, except they would be used as a mobile reserve, prepared to launch a counterattack at any point to plug holes in the lines or to exploit any hole punched in the lines of the enemy.
