Official census data in Apollopoli has shown that the population of the Free Hellenic Republic has grown to 5 billion people. On this momentous occasion, the government has decided to hold a whole range of festive events. The next week has been proclaimed a national holiday, and all citizens have been given wage increases.
Statement from Aggelophoros Lotophagos, President of Apollopoli, on behalf of Congress and the Citizens of Apollopoli:
"Fellow citizens, we have lived through tough times and times of good, but as we reach this enormous milestone in our lives, and in the life of nation, we must stop and contemplate ourselves and our nation. We mustn't forget about our ancestors, who have built up this great nation from the intense sweat and blooding of toiling this land. However, must not forget our descendants either. They will be inheriting this land from us, and it is up to us, as its custodian, to ensure that we have a future, and we continue to strive and succeed. Most importantly, we must never forget ourselves. We must not forget all who suffer, all who are ill, all who are not as lucky as we have been."
Press conference with Melina Mercury, Foreign Secretary, on behalf of Congress and the Citizens of Apollopoli, attended by the International Press:
"As part of our festivities, the Congress of Apollopoli has decided to involve the international community with the following projects:
"Our Environment Ministry will donate fine hand-selected breeding-pairs of our national animal, the owl, to all zoos around the world that so desire them.
"Our Science and Technology Ministry will make all data and research, that has been collected by our Nation, freely available to all who wish.
"Our Finance Ministry will increase expenditure on all international programs, with the intent of forging stronger relationships with all nations in the world. International aid programs will be increased ten-fold and a new interest-free loan system will be implemented.
"Our Culture Ministry will implement a system whereby our fine archaeological treasures we have in our museums will be available for display in other museums on a temporary basis.
"Our Foreign Ministry will create a new department to help promote Human Rights in all nations. This will be led by Myrarch Malak, former Minister for Human Rights and Marcos Glossolalia, current Peace Secretariat."
