History
Tisopean time is divided into Common Era time and Before the Common Era time.
The earliest recorded finds of a people inhabiting Tisopea dated back to the year 5000 BCE. During this time, warrior tribes constructed fortresses and traded amongst themselves. However, little is know about this period in history.
Recorded history in Tisopea traditionally begins in the year 45 BCE. During this time, a young warrior prince was said to have ruled a principality that existed near modern day Syoto. This prince was reputed to have become the mortal lover of the Goddess Amaterasu, Queen of Heaven and Lady of the Sun. Their son, the legendary Komei Emperor, would unify Tisopea through conquest, and by 0 BCE, Tisopea was a unified state. It was then that the traditional calander starts, with the first emperor being the "God-King" Komei-tenno.
Little is known about the first millenia of the Tisopean state, records are scarce. It is only known that a feudal structure was established, with both a landed and civil nobility. The samurai class emerged during this period, as loyal to the Emperor alone. However, unlike in other states, where the samurai served a shogun, no shogun existed in Tisopea. Thus, the samurai were the emperor's alone.
For about five centuries, the empire would be secure. Samurai put down rebellions and warred with bordering states, expanding the emprie to greater proportions.
However, in 1559, it all came crashing down. After serfdom was abolished, the samurai revolted. They refeused to acknowlege such a decree, and civil war broke out. They seized control of Syoto and set up their own shogun. The emperor was forced to flee, and what followed were twenty long years of bloodshed.
Finally, in 1583, the imperialists defeated the rebels and gained control of Syoto agian. The shogun than surrendered and the rebellion ended. What followed was a massacre. Over 10,000 samurai were put to death, and a further 100,000 stripped of rank and land. Then, in 1585, the entire Samurai class was abolished, along with the landed nobility. A new age had dawned.
Today, several centuries later, the Emperor is a near god. He is the absolute ruler of the nation, as well as the High Priest of the Shinto faith (the largest religion in Tisopea). Tisopea is thus an absolute monarchy, and quite economically prosperous thanks to the highly imperialist system.
