Going FT? A real consideration. [OOC]

Yes, the title remains true, I am thinking of going to future technologies. However, I would retain two personalities, one for modern tech, the other for future tech. Don't ask me why, I just decided that perhaps it would be fun to try out future tech, and I could try my had at developing future tech ordnance, including aircraft and spacecraft.

Regardless, in order to design, you must research, and I know nothing of future tech technology, although I'm sure that I could create something considerably powerful using enhanced versions of post-modern technolog. Nonetheless, it would be better to understand future technology. So, with that said, does anybody have any links to guides of future technology and such? I've been looking through the storefronts and they're all pretty vague, and none explain the internal mechanics of the technology. So, are there any sites? Or is much of the technology techno-babble?

Furthermore, what's the deal with traversing huge gaps in the universe? I mean, it would take billions of years to go from one solar system to the other, even more to go to seperate galaxies. So, how does it work? Do you just assume it is possible? If that's the case that's great, as it's basic, and it takes little to understand how it works. But if there's a set way, please explain.

Moreover, is there any other information I should know before I plunge headfirst into the FT world? I like to know what's going on when I role play.

I have some designs for my weapons already, and I want to start implimenting them, so any help would be awsome!

For the tech it's mostly technobabble, where people use T.V or book science.
For space travel, most use a convinent technobabble engine ie warp, hyperspace ect

I applaud your decision to go FT, I my self am a FT nation. If you ever decide to become a complete FT nation, perhaps you would be interested in joining me and my allies. Until then, I look forward to RPing with you in the future.

You sound like me.

I have not idea of any "techno-babble" as you put it, but I made up my own technology depending on what I was studying about in school. My little mantra is this: "if it sounds plausible and has a weakness, it is good."

I would suggest starting out as a post-post-modern and slowly develop, gaining allies as you go. One thing: always have a colony o such, for space RP's.

In the end, it is all a question of style. I'm in it for the RP, not the technology. Have fun as a part-time FT (like me)!

Hehe, that's what I thought. Then I downloaded Maya 3D...my entire world changed.

Should I stick inside the Sol galaxy? Or is it ok if I role play on my own galaxy?

Got a little worried when I saw the thread title, anyway have fun. Don't know much about FT myself but you could read some of David Webers books, "Ashes of Victory", "War of Honor" they got some detailed stats, drawing, statistics exc on ships and weapons.

you can be anywhere in the universe.
My FT nation travels between galaxies as it's a worldship.

Well maybe I will, I dunno. Tocrowkia wont be going FT, but I've been playing around with an idea in my head for awhile. I'll post it later.

What?! you have never seen star trek?, starwars movies? or babylon 5? or read sci-fi??
Well, as for future tech you can use anything from the before mentioned tv series and movies.. or you could use stuff from video games too.. or mix things from different sources into your ideas.. you can browse the web on tech specs for star wars, star trek, babylon 5, warhammer 40,000 and many other works of sci-fi for ideas, you can use them wholesale, or adapt them to your intended style of play.

As for being in Sol, naaaaahhh... get yourself an unoccupied constellation and start there, Sol is crowded!! i myself started in the Coronae Borealis Constellation, other on some other part of our galaxy, and a few others in another galaxy (Andromeda and Triangulum)

For traveling the great gulf between stars many use hyperspace, space folding, artificially created wormholes and many other styles i cannot remember. It is a matter of personal taste how you travel. again, you can use the technologies from the above mentioned shows, games, movies, etc.

What you can do, is check the postings of those FT Nations and see how they do things, what do they use to haul themselves across space, what kind of weapons the have and the like.

One word of advise, be sensible when creating new technologies, dont make an uberbattleship that cannot be destroyed unless is by direct Divine intervention, that kind of stuff is frowned upon and will get you quickly ignored.

Create suitably powerful stuff but remember that even those things have some weakness, maybe it takes long to fire again, or you shoot it and it cripples the ship, or it is vulnerable to some form of attack.. of course this applies to everything, i am just using weaponry as an example.

Check things first, and get into RPing a Future Tech Nation slowly, without rushing things.

Should I stick inside the Sol galaxy? Or is it ok if I role play on my own galaxy?

You really can go either or. I have my own Galaxy, called the Nameless Galaxy (Not based on any real galaxy, mind you.) which my nation calls home.

Some people like to stick to Sol though. More famailar, requires less creativity, I guess.

It just all depends on you, really. Want to use cannon? Stay in Sol. But if you're into really controlling your Role-play, definetly head out into the great Unknown, find a suitable planet, and call it home. :D The universe is infinately ginormous, with three times as many possibilities. :D

Believe in yourself! Have fun above all else. That's what we're all here for. (At least, I HOPE we're all here to have fun... >_> ))
