OOC: For those of you familiar with my recent RPs, you might be saying "OMG! Yesterday j00 were a n00b to the realm of FT, what's going on? It has taken me about a RL month to RP events over the span of a few NS weeks; later tonight, I'll post a "catch up" thread where I pick up the RP a decade or so later. Furthermore, assumed advances in tech and reverse-engineering have been worked out with Gaian Ascendancy by both RP and TG.

IC: As Evil Woody Thoughts imported more and more technology from the Gaian Ascendancy, certain Ministry of Defense leaders started getting ideas of their own. The Chief of Staff had authorized an order (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=8662943&postcount=195) of various Mon Calamari Star Cruisers and the acquisition of reverse-engineering rights (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=8499390&postcount=12) (on another class of ship). The Ministry of Defense further noted the need for escorts for the existing space colonization fleet (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=8334394&postcount=6), and took it upon itself to undertake feasibility studies for bringing this all together in designing a new command cruiser. For this, the Imperator-class Star Destroyers held by the Gaian Ascendancy were chosen as a vague template. The Ministry of Defense has found it useful, for domestic policy purposes, to 'leak' some vague parameters for what this new ship would do.

Official Statement from the Ministry of Defense

The Chief of Staff has called a meeting with Evil Woody Thoughts' best, most well-known scientists and engineers, the details of which remain highly classified. While its design has not yet been officially sanctioned or even named, the Ministry of Defense has decided to design a vessel approximately 2.2-2.5 km long, with the intent of fusing Star Wars and BattleTech technology bases. It is to have a docking bay capable of handling six DropShips, approximately 200 fighters, and tractor beams capable of capturing, as well as the space for holding, a 400-meter vessel. The new design will also feature heavier shields than the Imperator and an as-yet-unknown combination of turbolasers, ion cannons, particle projector cannons, and heavy railgun-type weaponry.

Ministry of Defense Official Statement

Today marks a new day in Woodian starship design, for today we release the planned schematics of the Immortal-class Star Destroyer. 2,400 meters long, it is to merge divergent technology bases that we have encountered, combining the advantages of each. A far larger docking bay than is standard on the known-across-the-galaxy Imperator, five times as large in fact, will allow it to accomodate six Mech-bearing DropShips, 216 TIE or variant fighters, numerous light ground support ships, and handle captured vessels up to 425 meters. Such a large docking bay will give the Immortal enough capacity to act as a small fighter carrier, allowing a large degree of flexibility in engagements. However, it wields a diverse array of heavy turbolasers, ion cannons, particle projector cannons, and heavy gauss rifles (ooc: basically railguns), and its hull and shielding have been upgraded from the standard Imperator class with new materials.

We do not expect to sell this technology except to very close allies, the governments of which played a vital role in helping us advance to this stage technologically. Construction will begin on a prototype within three years at White Diamond Drive Yards (ooc: thread on that coming soon).

The planned specifications are as follows:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v115/chair094/custom_star_destroyer.gif

Model: Immortal Class Star Destroyer

Manufacturer: White Diamond Drive Yards

Designation: Capital Starship

Length: 2,400 meters

Crew: 44,000

Troops: 14,000

Cargo Capacity: 55,000 metric tons

Consumables: 8 years

Hyperdrive Multiplier: x1.5

Hyperdrive Backup: x8
1 Kearney-Fuchida Jump Drive

Speed: 25 MGLT

Hull: 4,150 RU

Shields: 9,800 SBD

Weapons: 120 Heavy Turbolaser Batteries, 120 Heavy Ion Cannons, 60 Heavy Naval Particle Projector Cannons, 12 Heavy Naval Gauss Rifles, 15 Tractor Beams

Ammunition: 900 Heavy Naval Gauss Rifle slugs (total for ship), total 2,700 tons

Onboard Craft: 216 TIE Series Fighters (can be modified for other fighters as well), 6 Hrothgar DropShips, 15 Delta Class Dx-9 or Dx-9s Transports, 8 Lambda Class T-4a Shuttles, 1 Gamma Class Assault Shuttle.

OOC: This is my first starship design, and I sux0rz at image editing. Nevertheless, let me know what you think :)

Notes on the Particle Projector Cannon. It is basically an extremely heavy ion cannon that fires bolts of superheated ions, making it fully capable of slagging armor in addition to wreaking havoc with electrical systems. Moreover, PPC bolts are significantly thicker and stronger than ion cannon bolts fired from an ion cannon of comparable class. Therefore, a hit from a PPC is liable to do about six times as much damage to shielding as a comparable-class ion cannon, for the shields must absorb heat energy in addition to electrical energy, a bit less if fired from extremely long ranges due to heat dissapation in the cold void of space. The downside: A correspondingly longer recycle time between shots--about eight seconds.

The Ascendancy responded first by having two of it's Imperiators, a Victory Class, a Texas Class and a McKenna Class WarShip on display near White Diamond's second moon, for the Woodian techs to have a good look over at.

Several operational vessels to look over would make the techs realize what was important for their new design.

The big catch was that their DropShip criteria was already imprinted upon each of the vesseks, so they could see how a vessel would look, and how it should act with DropShips attacked, as well as when they detached and docked at varying speeds, including emergency combat speed, done in simulation of an emergency Fold Jump out of a combat zone.

The Gaians would then just let the Woodians learn, and do trial and error, to know what mistakes could do, and how to solve them. They would be there for the hard parts, such as teaching them how to operate a Fold Drive, in concert with a backup hyperdrive.

Stuff like that.

Meanwhile, the White Diamond Yards were still going at it full bore, with two new Fleet Groups about ready to deploy.

OOC: I'm doing a factbook, in which the White Diamond Drive Yards was just completed. I'm still typing out the factbook, but it will show the prototype as under construction; I'll post that here, too.

((OC- Kay, might want to make that an 'addition' to the Yards, since the yards, (unless they're seperate altogether in the first place,) along with a bunch of others were Ascendant made prior to their Ascension billions of years ago. Its pretty old stuff that still works like it was pristine. (..talk about dang good mothballing practices.)

..hence why the Ascendancy expanded as fast as it could get away with. There a TON of Ascendant made docks, cities, bases, yards, space stations, star ladders, planetary defenses, and more that was present, but hidden away, and accessed only by the Ascendant Code.

This still continues into the Galactic Colonies since the original Ascendant reach was vast.

The Ascendancy reach is a pitiful one by comparison at present. =^^= (..and pitiful at the 'very' low end of the scale.)

Three trillion dollars later (of which approximately $2.5 trillion is the initial R and D), the first Immortal Star Destroyer finally waited to be tested. With much fanfare, the new Prime Minister christened her the EWS Dominion, and skeleton crews took up residence in the labyrinthine halls of the ship to prepare her for her maiden voyage.

On the morning of 29 December 2059, she lumbered out of her dock in the White Diamond Drive Yards for the first time, breaking for the emptiness of space. Dockworkers watched in awe what they had built, and at the same time, hoped it wouldn't explode because some engineer screwed up. Many of the crew members shared the same fears, for this was the first starship the nation of Evil Woody Thoughts had built, and there were so many things that could go wrong...

The military had had to offer triple pay to entice enough volunteers for the testing. Flying a starship built by a nation experienced in spacefaring was one thing; flying one that a nation with absolutely zero experience had built was another thing entirely to most.

Nevertheless, the bridge navigator entered Earth as the destination in the nav computer and let it do the rest.

And when stars elongated into starlines, and the crew of the Dominion noticed that nothing had gone wrong, the bridge broke out in wild cheers. Six hours later, the Dominion dropped out of hyperspace in the Sol system, and lo, there was more celebration amongst the crew.

Code: Blue-XI ; Open Dissemination Summary

Subject: Summary of Immortal Project

Text:

While we applaud the achievement the Woodians have made on constructing their new starship, we have a few tidbits to offer of our own concerning the 'choice' of vessel the Woodians decided to build first.

For one, their lack of experience and decent reliance on our capacities, could have been made slightly less if they had chosen a small class vessel to construct first. Even we had to start somewhat small with the Frigate Classes, both in the WarShip and High-Mobile Types.

More, they have chosen to focus on the Hyperdrive format, even if a more efficent model. The Fold Drive available to them, still hasn't been worked over yet, probably due to inexperience and the technology involved.

Last, the summary concludes that the Woodians will require additional time, reduced somewhat depending on the shakedown of their new Star Destroyer, that they concentrate on small classes, of which several designs are available to them from our archives.

Once they have more experience, then they can learn how to efficently build these behemoths with more efficency, and that is obtained through smaller Classes first.

We recommend that their next Classes are at least ten Frigate to Light Crusier Class types, so that the experienced gained can go into a second Immortal Star Destroyer.

But, we can only advise, as per your orders Lady Grand Admiral.

Our Recommendations,

The Dominion was not in the Sol system for long before it received a transmission with orders directly from the Chief of Staff.

ENCRYPTION #53878.23

Commander Pterdovski of EWS Dominion, you are hereby ordered to return to
White Diamond for more testing. Use the Fuchida drive. Following your
arrival at White Diamond, you are to conduct weapons and targeting testing.
Several dummy satellites will be deployed in advance of your arrival; these
satellites will transmit a hostile IFF. Destroy them.

General Barbarick
Chief of Staff

The commander relayed these orders to the navigator, who started programming data into the nav computer. The navigator programmed all of the jump points at once, so the nav computer would automatically make the next jump when the vessel reached a drop point. This system existed to wring the maximum efficiency possible from the jump drive.

The Dominion lumbered back out of the Sol system to make her jump.

OOC: Credit for the pic goes to Thrashia. I bought full rights to the ship.

IC: After procuring more technical data and starship designs, Evil Woody Thoughts announces the introduction of two new classes of ship:

Knossos-class Heavy Destroyer

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v115/chair094/pirate1.jpg

DESIGNER/MANUFACTURER: White Diamond Drive Yards
COMBAT DESIGNATION: Heavy Destroyer
LENGTH: 600 meters
CREW: 400
PASSENGERS: (optional hold of 300 troops)
SPEED RATING: 55 MGLT (hyper space)
HYPERDRIVE: x1
HYPERDRIVE BACKUP: 1 Kearney-Fuchida Jump Drive
HULL RATING: 1280 RU
SHIELD RATING: 2400 SBD
CONSUMABLES: 6 years supplies
WEAPONS: 16 Quad Laser Cannons, 16 Heavy Turbolasers, 12 Ion Cannons, 12 Heavy Naval PPCs
ONBOARD CRAFT: Capacity for 24 starfighters not exceeding 18 meters in length

Intended for light to medium escort duty and exploration, the Knossos-class heavy destroyer derives its name from the capital of the ancient Minoans. The Minoans maintained a large navy to protect their trade; this vessel will largely serve the same purpose. It carries enough weapons to deter most pirates that may threaten Woodian shipping. It will also see much use in other fleet support needs. The prototype is expected to be complete in two NS months, after which time White Diamond Drive yards is expected to produce fifteen to eighteen every NS year.

TIE DEFENDER

Specifications (http://insd.swcombine.com/insd/tiedefe.htm)

While not an Evil Woody Thoughts design, we nevertheless have acquired the technical information necessary to produce these starfighters and found them excellent at fulfilling their designated roles. Unfortunately, there is not enough room for a jump drive aboard this small craft.

OOC: Meh, I didn't really feel like RPing the Immortal tests at the same time I was designating other production, so here it goes...

IC: Five hours after lumbering past Pluto and making her jump, the Dominion dropped back into the White Diamond system, having completed her maiden voyage. Commander Pterdovski said simply, "Time to blow some stuff up."

Over the past twelve hours, several mock satellites and various other items of space debris had been "prepared" for weapons testing. Pterdovski continued, "Anything that broadcasts a hostile signal--destroy it and don't hesitate to use the heavy weapons, because they need to be test-fired too."

The Dominion's gunners opened fire on the many inert satellites and asteroids. Despite the Dominion's ponderous amounts of weaponry, the target practice ended up being three hour-long light show, for this was the crew's first real target practice. More extensive training will fix this, Pterdovski thought to himself. At least we know the weapons systems all work.

Pterdovski walked to the bridge comm array and hailed the White Diamond Drive Yard's controller.

"White Diamond Drive Yards control here."

"Commander Pterdovski of the Dominion hereby reports initial testing completed satisfactorily. Although we'll need to contact the Gaians about training arrangements..."

"Yes sir." The tech relayed his report to his immediate superior, who might actually be able to do something about that last request.
