General Jahn Spolotik paced the floor of his primitive hut-office, his tan boots covering the stone floor with even more dirt. An advisor of his stood at attention by the General's wooden desk, waiting for permission to speak. Spolotik suddenly turned around, as if just noticing the advisor.
"Yes, Konul?"
"Permission to report, General?"
"Permission granted."
Konul looked down at the parchment he was holding, and began to read off the daily report. Spolotik stood in front of the advisor, half paying attention, as if lost in his own thoughts, staring around the room, stroking his beard, looking at his boots.
"And we have reports that some of the farthest out towns have finally gotten news of your leadershi-"
"Konul, forget about the report. Its not important. Imagine my plight, Konul. Here I am, the newly proclaimed leader of this fledgling nation, the ruler of what? Of nothing. I rule from a capital some still don't know about, leader of a nation unaware of my sovereignty-"
"The report, General-"
"I don't care about the report. You know what its really like, Konul. I have people secretly plotting to remove themselves from my rule, each town with its own leader, each the nation of itself, completely forgetting how I saved them that fateful battle. And thats just the people that don't believe in my. The people that trust me are an even bigger problem! Here we are, we just trained the fastest horse archers we've ever had, and around us? Machine guns! Bombs! Nukes! Upon me rests the sole task to pull this nation from the second century to the twenty-first century!"
General Spolotik paused and walked over to his window, and looked at an archer positioned outside, thinking and reflecting. Konul thought this would be an appropriate time to remian quiet and let the General continue his oratory. He was right.
"Konul, you know what we need?"
"What?"
"Alliances."
"Alliances, sir?"
"Yeah, alliances. Go send out diplomats or something, I don't know."
"But sir-"
"Let's go! Alliances! Bye!"
Konul mumbled to himself as he quickly collected himself and left the hut. Spolotik smiled to himself, and hoped this would work.
