Vulcano class nuclear powered guided missile battleship (BBGN)


The Vulcano class battleship is the newest ship to enter the Imperial Cottish Navy. It is a massive behemoth, with many new technological devices that will further aid the Imperial Cottish Navy in completing the task of defeating all enemies of the Empire of Cotland. The first vessel of the class is expected to enter service in 6 years.

The Vulcano class is powered by no less then three CNI-53 nuclear reactors, each providing 135 000 shaft horsepower. The Vulcano have 4 shafts and propellers. This is enough to give the Vulcano class a theoretical top speed of 42 knots. Her displacement is expected to be somewhere in the range of 80 000 tons.

Her armament will consist of no less then three triple 18" gunturrets, twelve dual 8" secondary gun turrets and 48 Mk 41 VLS cells aranged in the following order:

12 of the cells for the RIM-162B ESSM (4 per cell): 48 total

12 of the cells for the RGM-109B TASM (1 per cell): 12 total

18 of the cells for the RIM-156A SM-2-IV (1 per cell): 18 total

6 of the cells for the RUM-139A VL-ASROC (1 per cell): 6 total

As well as 4 21-missile mounts for RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile, 4 quad launchers for AGM-84F Harpoon ASMs as well as 4 30mm CIWS and numerous 20 mm machinecannon mounts. The ship also have 30 FIM-92C Stinger MANPADs for last-ditch use.

The Vulcano class will be staffed by 2000 souls (132 officers, 1678 enlisted and 190 Marines). Ships of the Vulcano class will have outstanding accomondation for their crews. She will among other things have unlimited broadband internet access, satellite TV and an own cinema for the crew. The Vulcano class is expected to have an endurance at sea of 10 years.

The weapons and radar systems installed on the Vulcano class will not be publicated in the near future due to matters on national security. However, the Vulcano class will be able carry up to four SH-60F Seahawk/two EH101 Merlin helicopters aboard in an hangar below the helideck which is located on the aft of the ship.

The Imperial Cottish Navy ordered the first ship of the class today, and will likely order more if the ship is accepted into the fleet. The shipyard selected to build the Vulcano class battleship is Joint Karelian Shipyards. The price per ship is $3 billion. The estimated time till the ship is completed and ready for seatrials is in five years, with expected entry to the active fleet in six years.

The Vulcano has entered its alpha trials, the first of the many different sea trials that is to be undertaken before the ship can be eligable for entry to the fleet. More information and possibly pictures will be released on a later date.

The Empire is happy to announce that teh Vulcano class BBGN has passed its seatrials with great results, and is ready to join the active fleet. It's final specifications are as follows:
