SSBN-915, somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean
"This is the Captain. Set condition 1-S-Q for strategic missile launch. Spin up missiles one and two. Release of nuclear weapons has been authorized. This is not a drill."

The control room was quiet. The captains orders was clear. They were to release ten Trident D-5 nuclear missiles.

"Set condition 1-S-Q, for strategic missile launch. This is the XO. Spin up missiles one and two. Release of nuclear weapons has been authorized."

The XO's confirmation only confirmed the fears that the men on SSBN-915 felt. Still, they jumped to it. The estimated time to fire was in six minutes. A few minutes later, the voice of the Captain echoed throughout the ship yet again.

"Weapons, Captain. Shift target coordinates to SLBM, 53731/2. Time to 1-S-Q?"

The reply from the CIC came immediately. "1-S-Q is approximately five minutes, twenty seconds sir."

Five minutes later, two Trident D-5 nuclear missiles flew from the north-eastern Atlantic ocean towards an area in the Pacific Ocean.

Tuamotu Archipelagio, Pacific Ocean
The radar picked up the two SLBMs inbound for the atolls. The ten MIRVs on each missile was just seconds of detonating on the atolls, wiping it clean of any life. The Cottish government had placed hundreds of people who had been sentenced to death after the riots in Cotlandstad on the atolls, and now they were to die.

"Three, two, one,"

"... detonation. Good bye traitors." the system operator commented as he watched the atolls getting consumed by the nuclear mushroom. The twenty nuclear warheads had done their job.

The Seawolf class skulked beneath the waves, at 550 feet, moving at 10 knots, silent as a mouse. It was tasked with monitoring a boomer, 9,000 yards away, from the Cottish navy that was apparently at launch depth and conditions. They were trailing the VLF antenna, communicating to the main sub command in Falcon City. Orders were just to observe. However, when a launch was detected, they immediately sent an emergency message that a launch had been detected, target unknown.

In the main Layartebian air defense center, anti-stealth systems tracked the missiles' ascent and their trajectory. They were heading somewhere west. If it were a country though, they would certainly have to be on alert.

At that point, Layartebian forces immediately went to REDCON 3. They were at increased readiness, prepared to act if necessary.

"Conn, sonar! Contact, bearing 1-3-4, range 4 000 meters! Designation Master 2-8! I classify the contact as a Seawolf class SSN sir! Nationality unknown! Reccomend alert one, reccomend alert one!"

The captain of SSBN-915 was worried now. A potentially hostile SSN in the area. It was these things that killed you.

"Secure from battlestation missile! Man battlestation torpedo! Rig for ultraquiet! Make your heading 2-3-1, depth 500 meters! Slow to 1/3!"

All over the ship, unnecissary equipment were being powered down and the crew prepared for what could be a long wait. In the forward compartments crewmen loaded Mk 48 ADCAP torpedos into the 533mm torpedo tubes and readied them for launch. All this took place while the ship decended to 500 meters below sea-level. If the contact made a wrong move, he would get blown out of the water.

"Sir, the ship is at ultraquiet." a crewman told the Captain. He merely nodded while the ship prepared to yet again become a black hole in the water. They just had to shake the contact first.

"Conn, Sonar. Contact is changing course. She's going deep. Flooding torpedo tubes as well."

"Sonar, Conn. Maintain track." The Captain was in a pickle. He had been seen, probably by his reactor plant noise. "Helm, Conn. Make your depth eight-zero-zero, speed five knots. Smartly."

"Aye sir. Making my depth eight-zero-zero, all ahead five knots, smartly." The command was repeated several times as the Seawolf descended and slowed. The Cottish boomer went deep, very deep. As she passed under nine hundred feet, her hull began to eminate a familiar popping sound. This was due to the pressurization and it echoed out from the submarine.

"Sonar, Conn. Has she opened her torpedo tube doors yet?"

"Conn, Sonar. No sir."

"Aye. Weapons, Conn. Flood torpedo tubes one through four with ADCAPs. Do not open doors."

"Conn, Weapons. Aye sir."

"Conn, sonar. The contact is flooding her tubes, but her doors are still closed. I repeat, still closed."

"Understood sonar. Let me know if the situation change."

The Captain turned to the XO and Cheif of the Boat. "If she tries anything, blow her out of the water. We know the Seawolf class. Both advantages and disadvantages. Get me a firing sollution." The two men nodded and walked over to the weapons operator's computer console. In the meanwhile the sub leveled out at 500 meters. She gave some sound, but not enough to be detected. Soon they would very very slowly rise to 300 meters and get the heck back to friendly waters.

"XO, come here."

The XO walked over to the Captain, who asked "Where are our closest attack subs?"

"There's two Virginias here," - the XO pointed on the map at a position 180 nautical miles to the northwest - "that can help us out. We just have to get over there first sir."

"Thank you XO. Cheif of the Boat, take us very carefully up to three hundred meters, twelve degrees up bubble. Set course two-eight-zero. Smartly."

"Take the ship to three hundred meters, twelve degrees up bubble aye. Set course two-eight-zero aye." The Chief repeated the orders a few times and slowly the ship rose to three hundred meters. It was damned near undetectable. After all, the Ohio class is some of the most silent submarines in the world.

"Conn, sonar. I have a possible contact, bearing 21 000 meters. It might be a whale, but I'm not picking up any biological sounds sir. It sounded like someone was loading the torpedo tubes. Anyway, I'm designating this contact sierra fifteen."

"Copy that sonar. Good job. Keep listening. Anything on our friend the Seawolf?"

"Negative sir. sierra fourteen haven't given a sound. I think we've shaken him sir."

The captain inhaled deeply. They had most likely shoken the worst fear a boomer could have. A hunter/killer sub who knew they were close by. But who could it be? It didn't matter much. In two hours, they would be protected by two Virginia class NSSNs, who were to be warned when SSBN-915 reached three hundred meters. They now creeped their way forward making six knots and were a hole in the water. The ship was at ultra silence and not one unnecissary sound could be heard.

On board the SNS Kakrafoon. . .
The submarine had been trailing the Cottish boomer for roughly 2 hours now, but had not detected the Seawolf at all, until she had started up her engines after the launch. The Kakrafoon was SSA-319, based out of Murmansk. She was southbound for Savannah, GA to visit the North Germanian base there and then on to The west coast of Africa to deliver an envoy to Tyrandis.
With a rated "silent" speed of 18 knots, she was virtually undetectable creeping along at 6 knots. The only possibility of hearing her was from transients.
The Kakrafoon listened calmly while torpedo tubes were loaded on the two subs. Suddenly, a third contact lit up on the sonar board.
"Conn, sonar, additional contact at bearing 0-1-2 range to target estimated 15,000 meters."
"Designate new contact Target-3, what do you have there sonar?"
"Target-3 has loaded torpedo tubes, but not flooded, repeat, tubes are dry."
"Okay, helm, come right to 1-0-2, sonar triangulate on all targets and get firing solutions."
"Conn, Helm, aye sir."
The Kakrafoonslowly turned to the right, moving parallel to the three contacts, allowing the slightest chance for detection with a tiny noise spike. However, a noise spike for this sub was just normal ocean levels, as she was much quieter than the water around her. A sonarman would have to be looking in the exact right place at the exact right time to catch the tiny ripple caused by the turn.

SSBN-915 (Ohio class SSBN)
"Sir, we're at three hundred meters. Commencing hover."

"Roger that Chief. Raise the UHF antenna. Get those two Virginias over here ASAP!"

"Aye sir."

The Chief of the boat started to format a EAM for naval command when they heard yet another contact. 'Goddamnedit! Can't they patrol somewhere else?'

"Maintain six knots. Let's stay quiet for now. When our friends arrive, we'll show them."

SSN-956 (Virginia class NSSN), ten minutes later
"Sir, we have a properly formatted EAM. Request permission to verify."

"Granted."

The two officers verified the new orders from naval command. The new orders for SSN-956 and SSN-995 were to head for a position one hundred and fifty nautical miles away to protect one of the SSBNs in the fleet. The orders were clear. Make best possible speed for position *Classified* and protect SSBN-915 from possible hostile SSNs.

The submarines took up position three hundred meters from each other and started to travel to the area at a depth of two hundred and thirty meters, exploiting the thermal layer there. Their speed was too fast to try to conceal them, both were making twenty-six knots with their torpedo tubes loaded with ADCAPs. They were flooded, but the doors were still closed. The proximity to eachother made it sound like it was only one sub coming to the aid, and it was part of the plan. The potential hostile subs would get a nasty surprise when they got there. It was less then two hours sailing at that speed.

We are not under nuclear attack. The nuclear detonation you saw was a test
of our SLBM capability. It was also a mass execution of traitors involved in
the attempt to overthrow the Emperor and Layartebian relations last week.
They have been dealt with, and we will not fire another missile unless it is in
times of war. We appreciate your concern and offer for help, but as you can
see, it is not needed at present.

"Conn, Sonar. Target is changing direction. She's heading northwest slowly. Contact fading."

"Sonar, Conn. Aye." The Captain looked at the chart overlay. "Helm, make turns for six knots, set heading two-six-five. Let's just follow her. Make your depth eight-five-zero feet."

"Aye sir." The order was repeated and the Seawolf slowly moved down and to the west. The goal was not merely to shadow the Ohio but to see where it was going.

"Sir, the ship is at action stations. All torpedo tubes are loaded with ADCAPs, and the sonarsuite is ready to pick up anything when we slow down."

"Thank you XO."

The Captain then turned on the intercom and adressed the crew.

"This is the Captain. We'll go in hot and pinging like crazy. The -995 will creep up on whoever is behind SSBN-915, and we'll take on the rest. Hopefully it'll be a big enough show of force to scare them off. It'll be just like we trained on two weeks ago. Man your stations. I expect 200% from each and every one of you."

As the underwater game of cat and mouse continued to play out, the Kakrafoon proceeded slowly on its new course, triangulating the positions of the three other subs as she went. Captain Duril Anstar looked across the control room.
"Sonar, Conn, how likely is it that we were detected on that turn just now?"
"Conn, Sonar, pretty good chance sir, we may have cavitated a tiny bit, and even if we didn't, we pointed our screw right at Target 1."
"Damn," said Anstar quietly, "what about the other two?"
"Probably not, Target 2 might have heard us, but she's focused on Target 1, right up in her baffles. Target 3 had no chance to hear us."
"Well that's good. Weapons, Conn, load torpedos in tubes 1-3 and flood tubes, load a MOSS in tube 4 flood and launch down bearing 0-2-0."
"Conn, Weapons, aye sir."
In the torpedo room forward, three torpedos and one mobile submarine simulator were loaded. The tubes were all flooded and the outer door on tube foor slid open to allow the submarine simulator to exit.
"Helm, Conn, all stop, I want us to disappear, no movement, as of this moment the ship is on silent drill."
Throughout the Kakrafoon conversations died away and men sat or lay down. The ship literally stopped making noise, there was simply nothing there for hostile sonar to detect. As the ship fell silent, the simulator oriented itself and accelerated away down its assigned bearing at 15 knots, broadcasting noises made by a Vogsphere class sub. It would pass close behind the Seawolf class and somewhere infront of the DB submarine.
Meanwhile, the Kakrafoon drifted forward, watching and waiting.

The two attack subs were close to the boomer now. As planned, SSN-956 increased her speed to 23 knots and started to ping like crazy, attracting the attention from the SSBN. Twenty thousand meters behind her, SSN-995 sneaked behind the Seawolf who tracked SSBN-915 and gave one ping, letting the Seawolf know that she had someone up her ass. The range between the Seawolf and SSN-995 was now two thousand meters. SSBN-915 continued on her course, ready to lob out countermeasures.

As the two attack subs arrived on scene, the control room on the Kakrafoon became a much more interesting place. As a few weak pings rang through the hull, every man on board knew that someone was too close for comfort.
"Sonar, Conn, what's gong on out there?"
"Two new contacts, designated Target 4 and Target 5, both Virginia Class attack submarines. Target 4 has settled into Target 2's baffles, while Target 5 is pinging like crazy and heading vaguely toward Target 3."
"No one on us yet?"
"No sir."
"Keep drifting, what's the status of the MOSS?"
"It's on a collision course with Target 4 sir."
"Do we still have wires on it?"
"No sir, estimated 45 seconds to impact, broadcasting loud and clear."
"Well, that should give them a scare."
"Transient! Conn, Sonar, Target 1 has flooded tubes and opened outer doors, transient is consistent with counter measures."
"Do they really think the Seawolf will fire?" Anstar thought aloud, "Prepare counter measures of our own, this could get nasty."

"Conn, sonar! Target heading straight for us, estimated time to impact fourty-five seconds! He ain't backing down sir!"

"Weapons, Conn. Blow him out of the water right now! Turn of the safeties."

The weapons crew of SSN-956 worked with speed and skill, locking two ADCAPs on the enemy target. When they reported the fish ready to fire, they had 28 seconds left.

"Fire." the Captain ordered. And the crew willingly did so.

The sub shuddered from the pressurized air that ejected one Mk 48 ADCAP from its tube.

"Sir, torpedo tube one has fired electrically. Fish running hot, straight and normal."

And the ADCAP flew towards the target, a Squornshelian MOSS. Though that last bit was unknown to the Cots.

"Target 4 is taking evasive maneuvers, Target 3 has flooded tubes and launched comm buoys. Targets 1, 2 and 5 holding to their courses."
"Good, time to impact for the MOSS?"
"Fifteen seconds and counting."
"Helm, Conn, give me 5 degrees down on all planes, Diving officer, increase ballast and make your depth 1000, repeat one-zero-zero-zero feet."
A chorus of "aye sir's" rang out as the Kakrafoon descended slightly. With all of her engines at rest, most of this dive depended on the ballast. Anstar was hoping that the other subs would attribute the pump noises and hull popping from the change in depth as his sub sinking.
"We'll play dead for a while and see what happens." Anstar turned to his XO, "You are witness to the fact that a foreign submarine fired on a MOSS simulating a Squornshelan Vogsphere Class submarine, and that under standard Squornshelan rules of engagement, we are authorized to fire on said vessel and any vessels friendly to it if it is deemed necessary by the commanding and executive officers."

"Sir, I have a single ping, right behind us. Oh shit! We've got the Seawolf right behind us sir! The ping belonged to a Cottish Virginia class though."

The captain was both nervous and relieved at the same time. Relieved that there were friendlies nearby, and nervous because he had a potentially hostile SSN right behind him. He had to act, and he had to act now!

"Helm, take us into a three hundred and sixty degree turn, bank to port. Let's get behind with our friends, shall we? Maintain speed."

"Aye sir, turning port to 0-6-2 degrees sir. Maintaining speed sir."

OOC: Squorn, first of all you have some glaring problems. How do you have any clue I have a submarine in the area. You can't figure out who owns a Seawolf in E2 as so many people own them. Not even Cotland knows it is my submarine, hence the confusion of the matter.

"Conn, Sonar. New contact bearing zero-nine-zero, active ping in the water. She's about two thousand yards off, coming in at speed."

"Sonar, Conn. Aye." The captain turned to the weapons station. "Let's plot a solution for that sucker and program it into a pair of ADCAPs. Keep the other two on the boomer."

"Aye sir."

At that moment, the sonar lit up. "Conn, Sonar. We've got multiple torpedoes in the water heading for multiple contacts. Suggest evasive maneuvers."

"Sonar, Conn. Aye. Helm, make your depth fourteen hundred, speed eighteen knots, course one-eight-zero."

"Aye sir." The Seawolf lunged forward and dove. It's hull echoed with pressurization sounds but that wasn't of their concern. There were four torpedoes in the water all heading to different targets and they were in the middle. They needed to get out of dodge fast.

"Sonar, Conn. Give me a target list."

"Conn, Sonar. Sierra one is a boomer, Ohio class. Sierra two is a U-133 class. Sierra three is a Virginia class. Sierra four is a Vogsphere Class sir. We have no other contacts except torpedoes and an unknown designated sierra five through ten, respectively."

"Aye. Keep an eye on it."

"Conn, Sonar. We have torpedo impacts on sierra ten. Lots of noise in the water." The explosions echoed throughout the water and the submarine, rigged for ultra-quiet just absorbed the sound. After a few minutes it went away. "Sierra ten is breaking up. Sierra five through nine gone. All torpedoes gone. Wait...active ping coming from the rear, from sierra three sir."

"Son of a bitch!" The captain yelled. "Get me the hell out of here helm. Too much in the water right now for us to be around. Make a southern course at twenty knots, maintain fourteen hundred."

"Aye sir."

"Conn, Sonar. We're getting some more contacts, sierra eleven through fourteen coming into the area. Tough to make out a classification but they're out there, towed array has them."

"Sonar, Conn. Aye. We're out of here. Helm what's the status?"

"We'll be clear in a few minutes we're running one-eight-zero sir, fourteen hundred, way below the layer, moving at twenty knots sir."

"Aye."

"Aye."

These are, I believe, four torpedoes and the MOSS I launched, all of which have since ceased to exist.

1. ADCAP fired by Cotland against the MOSS.
2. & 3. One of your posts seemed to be saying that you fired two ADCAPS, no target was specified.
4. ?

You have a point Layarteb, I will adjust the RP accordingly. I can't figure out where you're getting frou torps from though.

As the other DB subs arrived in the area, the Kakrafoon syayed perfectly silent, drifting along 1000 meters behind the SSN-995.
"Conn, sonar, four new contacts entering the area, faint but still readable. profile is consistant with that of Target 3."
"Designate new contacts Targets 6-9, is that a positive profile ID?"
"Yes sir, they are the same class as Target 3."
"Probably reinforcements called in by that bouy he dropped off." Anstar thought for a moment. "Helm, continue drifting, maintain course, Weapons, stand by to load tubes 4-8." He paused for a moment. "Also prepare to load tubes 9 and 10."

"Conn, sonar! More subs inbound!"

The captain of the -995 swore heavily inside of him, cursing the idiot who though of this place as a lonely place. It was more crowded then the Imperial Plaza in Cotlandstad on a national holiday (1)! Sighing, he picked up the scrambled gertrude and contacted the -956 and the SSBN-915. The other subs could only hear static, unless they had an appropriate recieving unit (2)(3).

"This is Papa Bear. My sonar is picking up loads of inbound subs. Most likely some of those new Germanian designs that are being exported. My reccomendation is that we haul ass out of here. Go to two hundred and sneak out making ten knots."

"Papa Bear, this is Momma Bear. I concur, and reccomend the standard escort formation."

The line was silent for a few seconds before they heard from the last one.

"Papa and Momma Bear, this is Baby Bear. I've spoken with my officers, and they agree with you. Let's go."

This message ended the communication with the message from Baby Bear, aka SSBN-915. Immediately the three Cottish subs silently went to ten knots (4) and rose to two hundred meters. SSN-995 traveled first, followed by SSBN-915, then SSN-956 acting as the rear guard. The two Virginias lobbed off a few MOSS' too, and the Ohio lobbed off a LEMOSS (5). They should be able to slip away silently.

"Conn, Sonar, I have hull popping on Targets 1, 4 and 5. Correction, had hull popping. 4 and 5 have faded out. I still have a very faint contact on Target 1."
Looks like the new arrivals have spooked them, Anstar thought, "Is Target 2 still outbound?"
"Yes sir, the Seawolf is heading away to the South, the contact is faint, she's below the thermocline sir."
The XO spoke up again, "Should we follow the boomer sir? We've been trailing her for a while and even if she turns out to be a friendly, it would be a good exercise to track an Ohio."
"No," replied Anstar after a moment's thought, "I'd rather stay and collect data on these new contacts. We haven't had much contact with Duke Barol and it would be valuable to learn more about their submarines."
With a course of action decided on, the Kakrafoon's engines quietly came back online. She accelerated up to a mere 6 knots* and began to monitor and record every sound made by the pack of DB subs.

* The Kakrafoon is rated "silent" at up to 18 knots

The Kakrafoon remained invisible and inaudible as the DB subs passed around her. She moved slowly through the maze of towed sonar arrays, often slowing to just 2 or 3 knots. In the short amount of time that the search went on, te crew collected valuable information about Duke Barol's submarine technology, and established distinct ID noise profiles for the five subs. When the data was uploaded upon the Kakrafoon's return to port, any Squornshelan vessel whoch encountered one of these subs would be able to distincly identify it, which was becoming more and more important in this world of increasingly chared technology. With many countries using the same subs, knowing whose were whose was the ultimate goal. After a while, the DB subs all suddenly and without warning issued a single ping. The sound reverberated through the water and rang faintly through the hull of the Squornshelan vessel. The crew held their breath and hoped the ancheoic tiles and rubber coating of their hull would keep them hidden.

"Conn, sonar. I have a single ping, several contacts. It looks like we didn't kill that sub after all. I have a total of six contacts. Five U-130 class attack subs, Germanian made but likely Barolian according to the intel we have. One Vogsphere class sub. The only known nation to use the Vogsphere class is Squornshelous, so it's safe to assume that it is Squornshelian. Then there's the Seawolf that we chased away sir, leaving the area. I still can not affirm a nationality on that one. We did get his reactor sounds when we tracked him though sir. Range to the closest, which is the Barolian U-130s, are at fourty-three thousand meters. Then it's the Vogsphere class at fourty-four thousand meters, and the Seawolf at one hundred and twelve thousand meters, leaving the area fast and noisy. I also have a Perry class frigate coming towards this area making 28 knots, range fifty thousand meters to the west. It's one of ours sir. The ICS Poltergeist. After all, the nine one five did call in all available assistance."

The sonar operator looked at the captain, who now stood with his head inside the sonar room. The captain stared back at the sonar operator, wondering how they were going to keep the peace going. Then they got a series of swift, powerful pings from the AN/SQS-56 sonar array, which was part of the AN/SQQ-89(V)6/9 combat system mounted on the ICS Poltergeist, and all other Cottish Perry class frigates. The info gathered from the sonar would be fed to the six Mk-50 ASW torpedoes carried by the Poltergeist.

"Call them up. We don't want them to make any mistakes or friendly fires."

ICS Poltergeist
The CIC of the Poltergeist was tense right now. The sonar readings indicated that there were a heck of a lot of subs in the area. Three of the subs were Cottish. The Ohio and the two Virginias that were a long way from the other subs. The other seven were unknowns. This was what intel the Cottish frigate crew had to rely on if they were to preform any actions.

"Get me firing sollutions. Maintain an active ping, and prepare the decoys."

The crew acknowledged the orders and scurried to work. Now they had to wait and see what the subs did.

"Jesus!" the sonar operator on board the Kakrafoon winced as a series of powerful sonar pings rang through his headset. "Conn, Sonar, additional contact, Perry Class frigate, pinging like crazy, designated Target 10."
"Do they have us?"
"Yes sir, no one's hiding anymore, all contacts in the area have been lit up."
"Damn, diving officer, take her down, make your depth 1-4-5-0 feet. Helm, ahead one third."

The Kakrafoon accelerated to 12 knots and began a long dive, passing deep below the thermocline layer, and deeper than most other subs could safely operate. She made a bit of noise, including some hull popping getting there, but the relative security of deep water made the whoe crew feel safer as she slowed back down to eight knots.
"Conn, Sonar, more buoys from Target 3, wait, rocket launch from the surface. No explosions, probably some sort of comm device."
"Good, they're worried about that frigate, that'lll keep them away from us." Anstar paused thoughtfully, "Load tubes 4-8 with ADCAP's and flood tubes, leave 9 and 10 empty for now."

If i know how far away you are, (sonar), and i know what general direction you are in (triangulation from my subs), i can aim the laser and adjust for the refraction.
also, if my laser doesnot hit something (standard rangefinding tactics used in every military), i adjust the beam. when i get a return, that is where you are. then i just follow you with the laser, and i can paint you with additional lasers as well.

While the Cottish submarines left the area, the frigate detected the rocket bouys heading towards the surface. Their origins were quickly established, and the six Mk-50s that was carried by the "Poltergeist" were locked on the Barolian subs. They recieved a serious amount of active sonar, and constant harrassment. As the Barolian bouys started to fly towards the skies 29 000 meters away, the Cottish frigate tracked it constantly.

"Sir, targets leaving area fast. Request permission to fire."

"Permission granted. Weapons free for anti air missiles."

And with that, the SPY-2B radar array in the mast of the "Poltergeist" went to armed mode. The Mk-13 Mod 4 missile launchers went active and after a short amount of time, four RIM-66D Block IIIB SM-2 (MR) missiles were fired. Two per target. Two missiles fell short a few hundred meters and fell harmlessly back into the sea, while the other two came close enough to explode. Unfortunately, the rocket bouys flew too fast for the shrapnel to catch up, and no harm was done to the bouys, much to the dismay of the "Poltergeist"s crew. But they had five good targets, and one that was going deep. Very deep. Too deep. (Just an idea of how deep the target went). And if the subs made one wrong move, they would get a few very accurate Mk-50s up their tail. Simple as that.

The 2nd fleet of the Dominion was fast on there way to that part of the atlantic ocean.
Admiral Johanson sat on the bridge of his Stahlheim Class Aircraft Carrier. He was deeply distressed about this upcomming firefight, he was sure it would come to that. He felt that the end to this small conflict might escelate into a full blown war. If that were the case, it would be his decision as to what side the Dominion would be on.
Life is not fair thought the Admiral. I was suppose to grow old and die, not go down with my ship.

RGM-84F Harpoons anti shipping missiles were readied in their launch tubes, and the 3" cannon on the "Poltergeist" was readied, even though it would likely not be used. Instead, the "Poltergeist" prepared itself to preform a honorable retreat. With ECM flights and sea kings in the air, the 2nd fleet was a welcome surprise to the dominion subs. The Sea Kings began to lower their dipping sonar as the EF-2000's and the F-22's Took off. the primary goal was to clear the surface of all threats before they turned their omnicent eyes to the depths.

On board the KM-120-124:
A simillar cry was heared on three of the dominion Heavy Missile Cruisers.:
"Ready Front tubes for immeadiate missile launch! Prepare Counter Measures! Lets get a lock on that enemy frigate!"
25 missiles were about to be launched at a single frigate...

"Captain, the radars on those cruisers have us painted. They're ready to fire missiles at any time sir."

"Are our CIWS systems online?"

The system operator looked over his board and nodded affirmingly.

"Yes sir. CIWS and the RAMs are standing by. So are our Harpoons sir."

The Poltergeist carried, in addition to the 36 RIM-66D Standard Block IIIB SM-2 MRs, a total of 8 RGM-84F Harpoon Block II, 6 Mk-50 ASROCs, one Mk-75 3" cannon, 1 30mm CIWS system and 1 pod with 11 RIM-116 RAM missiles. And this was just a frigate. But nevertheless, it wouldn't be too good on the record of the captain of the frigate to loose his ship to a foreign fleet.

"Good. Open a channel to the hostile fleet," he ordered. After a few seconds, his voice went all the way to the Barolian flagship.

"This is the Imperial Cottish warship Poltergeist on a mission of utmost ungency to Cottish national security. You are inside our safety zone, please move yourselves to a position fifty nautical miles to the west of us immediately, or I shall be forced to take the appropriate actions to protect my vessel and mission. You have been warned."

And with that, the Cots waited, ready to turn on a nickle and flee as fast as they possibly could. After all, a single Perry class frigate was no match for a massive fleet.

"Good, what about Target 10?"
"Seems to be holding her ground for now sir."
"That probably won't last long. This fleet could dismantle him without breaking a sweat."
Anstar looked across the dim control room, "Diving Officer, take us up, but very slowly, I want to come to launch depth, take your time though."
Foot by foot, the Kakrafoon began to climb up through the dark water, her hull let out tiny pops and creaks as the pressure outside it lessened, but it was highly unlikely any of the Barolian subs would be able to distinguish it fromt he noise of the fleet now surrounding them, especially with five of their own subs tearing in at full speed. The only danger was that the frigate might hear them, but it was a risk Anstar was willing to take.

In other words, he's threathening to fire his weapons if you don't remove yourself because he feels threathened. He's attempting to buy time for the Cottish subs to get away.

(Correct me if I'm wrong here) All modern navies have a so-called comfort/safety zone. That means if a foreign warship (warship B) enters the zone without permission or warning, warship A can fire in order to protect itself. Or so I've been told. That's the background for my comment.

I await your post.

IC:The admiral recieved the message about the 50 mile mark. Upon checking a map, he decided that the captain of the poltergeist was either crazy or bluffing. Probably both. In the Admiral's heart, he knew that with his signal, the enemy boat would become scrap-metal.

The captain stood on the bridge, wearing a grey flak jacket and steel helmet over the fireresistant hood and gloves like the rest of the crew while he listened to the reports from the CIC. He looked around. The crew were ready for anything.

"How far away are our subs?"

"They're in the clear sir. There's no real reason for us to be here anymore captain."

The captain considered this information, and decided on the next course of action. Then it came to him. In fact, he smiled at the thought on how the Barolians would respond.

"Give them a shot across the bow, then hightail out of here. Flank speed as soon as you fire. Give them it close enough to get wet."

The weapons operator was slightly puzzled at this command, but he knew better then to question the orders. Feeding in the info to the weapons computer, he ordered the shell to hit no more then one meter from the side of the Barolian flagship. Then he gave the three men in the cannon the order to fire.

Two seconds after the 3" projectile had been fired, the "Poltergeist" entered a sharp 90° turn and increased to flank speed. She sailed in speeds up to 33 knots, burning an incredible amount of diesel. If the Barolians returned fire, the captain of the Poltergeist would order the Harpoons to be fired and send a flash message to Command, informing them that Cotland were in a de facto state of war with The Dominion of Duke Barol.

ooc: 3 destroyers for my second fleet. not a fair trade. but, you can have some of my missile cruisers. lets do this.

On board Nimitz Flagship.
Aireal Conn Room
"Sir! we have a definate target!! We are closing the box now!"
"Aye, prepare countermeasures throughout the fleet! this guy wont go down without a fight! Ready ASROC's and Helo fish!!! Send message to fire at will!!" With that, 3 torpedoes at a time, 3 salvoes total, were dropped into the water at the enemy submarine. 2 Asroc's lifted off. 15 submarines opened outer torpedoe doors.
The highly advanced countermeasures employed in the Dominion navy were ready. On each of the submarines, tiny slits opened up. the remaining seakings prepared to drop noise makers and cavitators. On board the Cunningham, The rail Guns were readied and the THAAD's were put on allert, incase this sub had nuclear arms. throughout the fleet, missiles swung onto rails, guns were aimed, the fleet was prepped.

Back with the admiral.

IC:
The second the first torpedo hit the water and began searching, the control room of the Kakrafoon jumped into high gear. "Conn, Sonar! Torpedoes in the water, I count 11, outer doors opening on mulitple subs!"
"Fire all tubes and reload all torpedo tubes, dive to 1500 feet, all ahead flank deploy every single counter measure on this boat!"
Pausing only to launch every bit of weaponry she could, the Kakrafoon jumped from a liesurely 8 knots to 35 in a matter of seconds, diving steeply and spitting out counter measures in her path. The sonar operators also activated the ECM sonar jammers on board, creating false images for enemy torpedoes to chase.
As soon as the forward torpedo tubes were reloaded, they were fired at the various Barolian submarines. The rear torpedo tubes were ket ready while the Kakrafoon finally reached her max speed of 37 knots. As the pursuing torpedos began to narrow into a line chasing the Kakrafoon, one of them was fired at the nearest Barolian torpedo. The two warheads went off almost simultaneously, and the resulting shockwaves and disturbances in the water disrupted several of the other torps. Although some were thrown off by the exposion and counter measures, five still remained firmly on target. At this time, the second torpedo was launched and both tubes were reloaded.
"Sir, we've got some leaks reported in the aft torpedo room! That last torpedo went off a little too close for comfort."
"Can we stop them?"
"Yes, but we probably can't safely make 1500 feet sir."
"Damn, level off at 1350 then."
"Aye sir!"
In this method, the Kakrafoon rid herself of pursuers and settled down to a speed of 3 knots at a depth of just over 1350 feet.

The two destroyers Cole and Hitscher pulled up against the wind 110 nautical miles out and each destroyer fired ten RGM-109 TASM Tactical Tomahawks aimed at the Barolian carriers. The cruise missiles would take less then four minutes to hit, though they were skimming the surface at 30 feet, making them damned near impossible to detect with radar. When the destroyers had fired the first ten missiles, they continued on, preparing their RGM-84F Harpoon Block IIs for the showdown. Also being prepared were the ASROCs and SM-2s.

The Poltergeist started to back off again, making 30 knots. Then, one by one the Harpoons she carred were launched. Once the last had been fired, she increased speed yet again to 32,8 knots and started to flee the scene.

ICS Poltergeist
"Torpedo, torpedo, torpedo! Bearing zero-nine-two, range sixty thousand meters! Recommend return fire and pull out Nixie!"

and

"Vampire, vampire, vampire! Inbound missiles from the Barolian fleet. Estimate fifty missiles. Recommend activating CIWS!"

was yelled out from the CIC in the bowels of the Poltergeist. The captain was down there, and immediately took the decisions that would be needed.

"Copy that. Fire the ASROCs at the sub contacts and let us get the hell out of here. Deply Nixie. Get the CIWS to full combat mode. Radio to the destroyers and copy to High Command: Under missile and torpedo attack. Returning fire. Send them our coordinates."

The captain then pulled out a key from his keychain and inserted it into a slot and pulled it past the "PASSIVE" and "MANUAL COMBAT" settings to "AUTOMATIC COMBAT". This meant that the CIWS system on the Poltergeist, which consisted of the 30mm radar-guided gatling cannon with 1700 shells and the 11 RIM-116 Block I Rolling Airframe Missile (designed to shoot down incoming missiles, very high accuracy), was allowed to be able to track down and kill any incoming threath without human interference. At the same time, a voice thundered over the whole ship:

"Now hear this, now hear this! Deploy Nixie!"

The Poltergeist deployed the Nixie countermeasure, that generated several stronger and more inviting sonar images of the Poltergeist, hopefully fooling the torpedoes enough to allow the Poltergeist to get away unharmed. Then she fired off the six Mk-50 ASROCs towards the submerged contacts. The target were in the extreme edge of the range of the Mk-50s. so a hit would be heavily influenced by luck.

"Incoming bandits. Looks like F-22s. They're within range sir. Target locked. Ready to fire."

"Fire," the captain ordered. And a second later, the first of the thirty RIM-66Ds were fired from the Mk-13 Mod 4 Standard Missile Launcher. The Poltergeist would most likely be heavily damaged, if not sunk, and the skipper wanted to get rid of as much ordinance as possible. After all, it didn't do the Cots any good lying of the sea floor.

ICS Cole
The Cole was alerted by the Poltergeist of the inbound missiles, and immediately fired up its own CIWS systems. Two 30mm gatling systems, identical to the one on the Poltergeist, and a total of 42 RIM-116s would hopefully be enough to shoot down the inbound missiles. The Hirstcher carried the same armament. And the Arleigh Burke class had been designed to give away as small a radar signature as possible, something which had proved very effective against incoming cruise missiles and planes. So the two destroyers pulled up against the wind again and fired the rest of their RGM-109s (a total of 12 missiles per ship, 24 missiles in total).

All three ships
When the missiles came, the first move from the Cots were launching the RIM-116s when the missiles came within 45 000 meters. Then, when the target was 5 000 meters out, the 30mm CIWS guns took over, creating a virtual wall of 30mm shells.

2 methods:
If i know how far away you are, (sonar), and i know what general direction you are in (triangulation from my subs), i can aim the laser and adjust for the refraction.
also, if my laser doesnot hit something (standard rangefinding tactics used in every military), i adjust the beam. when i get a return, that is where you are. then i just follow you with the laser, and i can paint you with additional lasers as well.

Adjust for refraction? You realize just how much light refracts through water? Thats why it's never used. Water is a horrible medium for light, sound on the other hand. Even that if you manage to adjust it so it can pierce through water, which it can't, the return would go everywhere.

OOC: Not really. I did have a virtual wall of close-defense missiles and depleted uranium there, so I'd cut that number with another 20 - 40 missiles AT LEAST. Also, in order for your F-22s to carry 4 - 5 Harpoons each, they would have to have brackets mounted. That seriously increases radar signatures, making them more receptable to SAMs. And I did fire 30 missiles towards your planes. You've got to have a hell of a lot more losses. Both in planes and missiles. I'll RP it though. You did fire enough missiles to sink the frigate and severely damage the destroyers even with the reduced missiles making it through. Oh, and you shot down approx. 70% of the missiles I fired against you. That gives me another 18 missiles heading towards you. Let's say 7 TASMs and 11 Harpoons.

IC: The situation didn't look good. There were still a lot of missiles heading towards the Poltergeist. Too many for it to be able to survive for much longer. Therefore the captain ordered all hands to stand by to abandon ship, while he fired whatever ordinance he had against the incoming missiles, ships and planes. While the planes were heading away from the frigate, they were still well within the missile range. And missiles were being fired at the F-22s, who were very visable on radar screens due to the brackets mounted under their wings. The missiles had their targets, and hunted them down. The CIWS systems fired their 30mm rounds, shooting down missile by missile. Unfortunately it wasn't enough, and many hit their target. Most of them hit the single Perry class frigate that was the ICS Poltergeist.

As tough as the Perry class might be, it wasn't enough to stay afloat. But it did stay afloat long enough for the surviving crew to manage to abandon the ship in the life rafts. Of the crew, 162 survived, while 88 seamen were killed in the explosions and fires that ensued. Those 88 would be remembered forever in the Imperial Cottish Navy, along with the proud ship that was the ICS Poltergeist. The survivors stayed in their rafts, drenched in oil after the fuel tanks gave way. It was a sad sight, and hopefully the Barolian fleet would have the mercy to pick them up. Either way, this would get serious reprecussions for the Dominion of Duke Barol.

----------

The two destroyers didn't fare much better. Though they managed to avoid sinking, they were badly damaged and started to limp away from the area, empty of weapons and short on men. On the ICS Cole, 167 seamen had been killed by the missiles. The ICS Hitscher fared a little better, but only a little. 130 seamen were killed there. Both ships suffered severe damages, something that would later cost almost one billion USD to repair. This surely would get serious repricussions for the Dominion of Duke Barol!

While severely damaged, the ICS Cole managed to send a message to the Barolian fleet over the emergency channel, which all ships were obligated to pay attention to.

"We are severely damaged and at your mercy. But be aware. Any further attacks on us will ensure a fullout war between the Empire of Cotland and the Dominion of Duke Barol. We are departing the combat area. Do not attempt to follow us. End message"

----------

When the news about the sinking of the Poltergeist reached Cotlandstad, the Emperor choked his coffee. When he had managed to cough it back up again, he exclaimed himself in a very disturbing tone.

"The bastards did what?! Sink one of our frigates and damned near sink two destroyers as well?! General, I want full plans for retribution against Duke Barol. Military as well as economic and political! Call in their ambassador here immediately! I want to speak with him personally!"

The Emperor was furious. There weren't reports of dead sailors yet, but there had to be. The Emperor ordered all naval units in the area to prepare to hunt down and KILL the Barolian fleet responsible. That meant that the Cots would be sending three carrier strike groups, one battleship task force and seven squadrons (2 cruiser, 4 destroyer, 1 frigate), as well as fifteen subs (3 Seawolf, 12 Virginia) operating independently. But first he checked the maps. Damned near Iceland. Iceland...

"Iceland is under Layartebian control, is it not?" he asked an aide.

"Yes sir. They assumed command from the Soviets a few months ago."

"Good. Call the Emperor of Layarteb. I don't care that it's the middle of the night. That guy never sleeps anyway."

"Yes sir." the aide said before he rushed off to find the wireless phone for his Emperor. The Cottish Emperor pressed 2, which speeddialed directly to the office of the Emperor of Layarteb, Layarteb City. It was the middle of the night in Layarteb. The Emperor would wait sending his ships to hunt down the Barolians untill he had talked with the Layartebian Emperor.

"Emperor? It's Thomas in Cotland here. I have a slight problem with some destroyers of mine. Apparently, the Barolians have fired missiles against them and severely damaged them. They are limping towards Cotland, but my admirals fear that they may not reach home. It seems Iceland is nearby, so I wondered if they might be allowed to seek emergency harbor in Iceland while the northern fleet hunts down the responsible Barolian fleet."

"Sonar, Conn, what can you tell me?"
"It's real confused sir, our torpedoes are still running and I can hear the subs running from them, but the noise is all mixing together. There's a surface battle going on up there, I have splashes and some explosions that are probably missiles, but I can't tell which ones are ours."
"Helm, come to bearing 0-4-0, all ahead one third, we're getting the hell out of here."
The Kakrafoon accelerated to ten knots and turned away to the Northeast, heading back towards Murmansk without knowing what, if any damage her torpedoes and missiles had done.
The Fleet attack subs launched counter-measures followed by there own attack. Each of the 15 subs fired 8 torpedoes. one at a time, 10 second intervals. this brute show of force was ment to scare off the enemy destroyers. 90 torpedoes closed in on the enemy submarine.

The 10 Missiles were caught up in the frey of the cottish missiles. However, they were much less of a threat. The 3 aegies cruisers who first saw them, easily dispached of them.

The Emperor was sitting in his chair, the lights dim, his eyes closed. He never slept so what little downtime he could get would work for him. With that he had a large glass of water on the desk and two pills. They helped him maintain sanity. The operations that he had recieved to make him non-reliant on sleep had a nasty side effect, severe psychosis. The pills he had to take once a day counterbalanced that and skipping a day wasn't advised. He had never skipped a day, especially not since he was in control of the largest nuclear arsenal on Earth.

The phone rang outside and his night secretary answered it. It was so quiet he could hear her voice. "Emperor's office. I understand. Please hold." She put the phone down on the desk and buzzed the Emperor's office. He pushed the recieve button. "Sir, the Emperor of Cotland is on the line. He says it is urgent sir."

"I'll take it on line two."

"Yes sir." She pushed another button and it went through. "Set sir."

"Thank you." He picked up the phone. "Thomas my good friend. How are you?" He paused. "You say what? Duke Barol huh? Interesting. Very well. Your forces may dock in Iceland. I shall place a phone call to the government of Duke Barol immediately." The Emperor put down the phone and thought for a second. He looked over at a file on his desk and grunted. He buzzed his secretary. "Can you get me the Duke Barol embassy on line one?"

"Yes sir." She fumbled around with some numbers and dialed the embassy. "Here you go sir. Patching it through."

"Thank you." He breathed out and picked up the phone. He hadn't taken his medication yet and it had been twenty-eight hours since the last time he took them. He was already becomming edgy. "This is the Emperor of Layarteb. I have been informed of a dangerous situation in the North Atlantic where your warships have engaged Cottish vessels and severely damaged them. It is my belief that this unprovoked attack has seriously destablized the entirity of the globe. The Layartebian will not stand idly by as our ally is attacked and desecrated. We implore that your forces cease and desist or else we will be forced to take action, which will include the ejection of your embassy, staff, and nationals from our land and military attack against the Galapagos Islands. You have one hour to present with me the decision you render. Good day." He hung up the phone and popped the pills. That'll put them in a quandary.

While Cottland was the first to fire shots (here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=8915181&postcount=84)), we do not wish for war either. Our original efforts were to try to end the conflict. Upon the attack by the Cottish ships, we were forced to respond in kind. We considered Cottland our Ally and were very much surprised by the turn of events. Be that as it may, we with to end this conflict, as it can do no good for any party. Thank you.

It was indeed a DB ship that engaged first, firing shots across the bow of a Cottish ship, which was in no clear engagement mode. This act of aggression was entirely uncalled for and unncessary. We stand by our previous statement."

"The actions of your navy has been horrible. We demand that all of your forces stand down for a period of two hours, as well as we shall as Cottish forces to do the same. After the two hours are up the situation shall be resolved, hopefully. It is then up to the Cottish government to decide what necessary reparations will be in order."

At the same time, Operation Turtle would be prepared. It called for the full mobilization of the forces west of Panama to take up a blockaide position around the Galpagos islands some thirty-five miles off the coast. That part of the wargames would have to be cancelled if so.

Message to the Dominion of Duke Barol

The Empire of Cotland is shocked of the savagery committed by the Dominion, and demand the following in order for this situation to be resolved peacefully:

full compensation for damages made to Imperial Cottish property

large monetary compensation to the families of the dead sailors

official appology for the uncalled for attack by the Dominion on sovereign Cottish property

If those demands cannot be met, the Empire will have no other option then to initiate all-out war with the Dominion of Duke Barol. This is an option that neither party wishes. However, the Empire sees it as its only option, save usage of WMD (something the Emperor do not wish to do). The Cole and the Hitscher limped into Reykjavik port, aided by a few Layartebian naval vessels. The smoke was still coming from the ships, and the charred sides and large gaping holes bore a silent testimony to the powers that had been exposed upon the vessels, and the toughness their constructers had given them. The mere fact that the ships were still afloat was a silent homage to her builders. Now they had to get into a drydock so the joint Cottish and Layartebian personell could extinguish the final flames and start the grim job of clearing the ships for bodies, all of whom would get a decent burial with all honors in Cotland.

http://www.hazegray.org/features/cole/cole08.jpg
ICS Cole, damages seen from port side (most missiles hit on starboard side)

The total bodycount from the Cole and the Hitscher would show that a total of 297 men had perished in the skirmish. It was a gruesome loss for the Cottish Navy, who still hadn't been able to raise the crew of the Poltergeist. Hopefully the Barolians had the decency to pick them up.

-------------------

Repair costs

ICS Cole

Destroyed radar array: 100 million
Damaged VLS systems: 130 million
Hull damages: 183 million
Various damages: 62 million
TOTAL: 475 million

ICS Hitscher

Damaged propulsion system: 145 million
Damaged weapons guidance: 98 million
Destroyed cannon: 20 million
Damaged VLS system: 130 million
Hull damages: 191 million
Various damages: 109 million
TOTAL: 693 million

Note: The ICS Hitscher is so heavily damaged that it would be more cost effective to build a new vessel instead of repairing the Hitscher. Therefore the cost for the Hitscher will be 600 million USD.

Compensation for families

2,5 million USD per family (standard life insurance in the Armed Forces) x 385 dead sailors = 962,5 million USD

Total sum for Duke Barol to pay = 2,037 billion USD

OOC: It wasn't a war per se, more like a small conflict. I'll consider it over and done with. BTW, you haven't posted your losses. And you can feel free to pick up the crew from the Poltergeist if you wish. If not I'll send another ship to pick them up. It's up to you.

ooc:admit it, atleast a few of them must hit you.

OOC: Despite the fact that sonar performance drops to zero while you're at speeds of over 20 knots or so, which you certainly would be while eveading a torpedo, I will accept the fact that a few of your torps would have targeted the Kakrafoon, but you have to realize the fact that by the time your subs could slow down enough to fire, the Kakrafoon would have been travelling too slowly to detect on passice sonar, and too far away for a definite firing solution on active sonar. So I have to assume that the 90 torpedoes were fired blindly back down the bearing from which the Squornshelan torps came. This method, while likely to scare the crap out of an enemy sub, is not very accurate. However, due to the sheer number of torps fired, I will accept that say, 12 succesfully aquired the Kakrafoon.

IC:
"Conn, Sonar, torpedoes in the water! Multiple contacts!"
"Bearing change?"
"There's too many of them, I can't track the individual fish!"
"All ahead flank, make your depth 300 feet and come to bearing 3-1-5."
"Aye sir!"
The Kakrafoon rose through the water, traveling upwards 1000 feet and turning from Northwest to Northeast in an attempt to throw off torpedoes.
"Deploy noisemakers, load a MOSS in tubes 9 and 10 and launch ASAP!"
Two submarine simulators popped out of the aft torpedo tubes and began broadcasting, the three nearest torpedoes sped past them but the fourth and fifth went after them, exploding almost simultaneously. Two more torpedoes went for noisemakers and another one, the farthest from the sub, lost the target due to the radical change in depth and course. However, this still left seven torpedoes closing in on the submarine.
"Dive to 500 feet, full right rudder! Deploy more noismakers!"
The Kakrafoon heeled over as she cut a sharp turn back towards North, the three torpedoes that had been chasing the closest overshot the sub and curved back around only to find three noisemakers bubbling in their path. Two of them lost their lock and detonated, rumbling through the water and ringing through the hull of the Kakrafoon. The third sped through the bubbles and reaquired the sub on the other side.
Of the four other torpedoes chasing the submarine, three of them lost the contact traveling through the disturbance in the water left by the detonation of the other fish, and sped off through the water searching for additional targets, which didn't exist.
"Load ADCAP into tube 9 and fire!"
A few second later the torpedo exited it's tube and sped towards the nearest Barolian torp, but it overshot the target and aquired the second one. The two projectiles collided with an amazing explosion, easily visible on the surface. The last torpedo continued to gain on the Kakrafoon.
"Take her up, broach the ship, deploy counter measures all the way up, we'll try to lose it in surface noise."
The Kakrafoon turned upward as the collision alarm sounded throughout the ship. Sailors on and off duty grabbed on to anything bolted down, knowing they were going for a wild ride.
About twelve miles away from the outer vessels of the Barolian fleet, a huge black shape leaped up out of the water, and almost simultaneously, a bright flash and fountain of spray went up near the back of it, accompanied by a loud boom.
The torpedo had locked on to the very last noisemaker, detonating just 30 meters below the surface, about 25 meters from the pressure hull of the Kakrafoon. Large leaks immediately sprung open in all of the aft compartments, including the reactor room, diesel engine room, and aft torpedo room.
In the control room a few small leaks had opened, and were quickly contained. A moment of silence blanketed the people there. Captain Anstar was the first to speak.
"That's it, we've done all we can do."
He picked up the telephone to the reactor room.
"How are things back there?"
"Bad sir, we've got an amazing amount of leaks back here, the aft torpedo room is going to flood and there's nothing we can do about it. There're some ruptured ballast tanks back here, so the boat isn't going anywhere for a while. We can lock down the leaks in the engine and reactor rooms, but it'll take a little while."
"Thank you Commander." Anstar hung up the phone and turned back to the control room, "Blow all ballast, raise antenna and signal the Barolians," he took a deep breath. "Tell them we are prepared to surrender."
A palpable shock swept over the control room. One of the most technologically advanced vessels in the world had been beaten, overwhelmed by sheer numbers. Anstar spoke again, "After we negotiate with them not to shoot us, contact COMSUBLANT, I will give a full report and then," he looked around, "If our superiors agree, we will offload the crew, while myself and the senior officers stay aboard to scuttle the ship."

Yeah once you go over 25 knots sonar performance is nil. You can't hear a thing, not even an incomming torpedo. When you are evading a torpedo you usually go to flank (32 knots or higher) so you aren't going to be hearing a thing. The only way they know how far off the torpedo is, is by timing it. That scene in HFRO when he times the impact is about how it's done.

Message to the world

After long and careful consideration, the Empire of Cotland has decided to declare the Dominion of Duke Barol a hostile nation, and act accordingly. All citizens of Duke Barol will be asked to leave Cotland within 48 hours, and all Barolian assets in Cotland have been frozen. All Cottish citizens in Barolian held territory have been ordered to return to Cotland immediately. Any Barolian vessel or aeroplane entering into Cottish territorial waters or airspace will be intercepted and/or destroyed without warning. All diplomatic contact between the Empire and the Dominion have been ended. These measures will be in place indefinately.

The reason why the Empire is taking these drastic measures are based on Barolian military activities against Cottish national security, including the sinking of a frigate, the severe damages inflicted on two destroyers and the deaths of 385 Cottish seamen. These measures will be in place indefinately.

Official Statement from Reichschancellor Helmut Kahn:

"It has become obvious, through our various intelligence services and reports from close allies, that export-version weaponry sold to the nation of Duke Barol [which under a signed agreement was to never be used against any ally of North Germania] was used against Germania's close and long-time ally, Cotland.

It is infuriating that a trusting pact between two nations was broken by the nation of Duke Barol. Furthermore, there will be no future sales of any weaponry to the nation of Duke Barol.

A naval embargo has been placed along the coastlines of Angola until the following conditions are met:

1) Reparations to the nation of Cotland be immediately made.

2) Diplomatic reparations

-- A. All ships and weaponry sold to the nation of Duke Barol be either destroyed with witnesses from the nations of Duke Barol, Cotland, Layarteb, and North Germania present, or

-- B. All ships and weaponry sold to the nation of Duke Barol be returned to North Germania with witnesses from the nations of Duke Barol, Cotland, and Layarteb.

3) An official apology be made to the nation of Cotland immediately.

4) A treaty (The Treaty of Gernhein) of future non-aggression against the nation of Cotland be signed. The specifics of this treaty are as follows:

-- A. Duke Barol is to perform no aggressive military actions towards the nation of Cotland at any time in the future.

-- B. If Duke Barol does perform any aggressive military maneuvers against the nation of Cotland, Germania will respond with a swift and powerful counter-offensive, possibly supported by allies.

If these conditions are not promptly met, Germania will be forced to place the territory of Angola under strict and severe military occupation for an indefinite period of time. In addition to this possibility, further sanctions may be placed on the nation of Duke Barol from Germania, and possibly other nations."

Signed,
Reichschancellor Helmut Kahn

On the deck of the Kakrafoon, men poured out of the escape hatches, grouping toward the bow of the sub. While it looked fairly intact from the surface, it was listing slightly to port and the stern was very low in the water. The men began to get out large inflatable rafts, and soon a half dozen of them were floating around the submarine. In the control room, the seniro officers recieved the message from the Barolian helicopter. Captain Anstar picked up the microphone and responded.
"You may, but that would not be advisable, as the boat could sink at any moment. We are fighting to contain leaks in the reactor and engine rooms, and our aft torpedo room is already flooded. We are trying to keep her afloat long enough to evacuate."
In reality, there was no one left in the engine and reactor rooms, and the leaks were unattended. The reactor had been shut down, and everyone was leaving the ship.
In a matter of minutes, 135 enlisted men and 7 warrant officers were floating in the rafts, as the 8 senior officers finally left the control room. The ship's list had become worse, and it was difficult for all of them to climb down the ladder on the tilted sail. They removed the last raft from its compartment and left the boat. All of the hatches had been left open, and all of the watertight doors between compartments were also opened. As the helicopter circled and the life rafts bobbed up and down, the Kakrafoon slowly tipped over onto her side. As water began to rush in through the open hatches, she slipped silently beneath the waves and droped like a rock.

The massive, 138 ship blockaide line would be established in a mere few hours. They had already put to sea in response to orders from the Emperor earlier in the week. Now, it was a matter of distance. The ships would set up lines between thirty-five nautical miles and sixty-two nautical miles out, well over-the-horizon. The New York SSGN would be out at one hundred and twenty nautical miles, way away from the enemy but well within range of its massive Tomahawk II payload.

In order for the ships to be detected and targetted, the Duke Barol military would have to fly over-the-horizon, looking aircraft. They would have to be high up and therefore well within range of the Layartebian air defense missiles. This wasn't going to be easy pickings for the Duke Barol military.

OOC: DB what's the adjective for your forces (i.e. Layartebian, Cottish).

Expect it shortly.

ooc:cottland and layarteb, i thought that you said that once i paid, you would be happy, also, you said that once i stopped my millitary, it would be over, i did that as well. what else do you want? Also, Nationstates and Earth 2 aside, you are realy pissing me off, with finals and all, then this crap, i am not in a good mood.

I realy dont want to fight you guys, i was under the impression that once i paid, this would be done:
OOC: It wasn't a war per se, more like a small conflict. I'll consider it over and done with. BTW, you haven't posted your losses. And you can feel free to pick up the crew from the Poltergeist if you wish. If not I'll send another ship to pick them up. It's up to you.
Lay:ill share the galapagos with you, you dont have to invade.

TO ALL:I JOINED E2 BECAUSE I WANTED TO RP, NOT BECAUSE I WANTED TO BE GANGBANGED BY PEOPLE 100% STRONGER THAN ME WHO BREAK THEIR AGREEMENTS!! THIS STARTED BECAUSE COTLAND WANTED TO SPICE THINGS UP. SO I ATTACKED HIM, THATS WHAT HE WANTED, THEN YOU ALL THREATEN TO KILL ME UNLESS I PAY AND APOLIGIZE, I DO THAT. THEN YOU THREATEN TO KILL ME AGAIN!!!! WTF IS GOING ON HERE!!!

I have three very good reasons to continue

1) You attempted to pay too little, and as such, I consider you to have violated the treaty we agreed upon. But I have not made any hostile move against you since you payed the money.

2) Acting as a good ally, I have to support my allies, even if I might qualms against their actions. Besides, I merely stated that I from now on consider Duke Barol a hostile nation. I never agreed upon returning to pre-war diplomatic positions or in any way assist Layartebs forces. It is completely his operation. Whatever you have done against NG are your problem.

3) You are really pissing me off by constantly not reading the posts carefully enough, godmodding and writing my name wrong. It's Cotland, not "cottland"!!

Besides, you're not the only one with finals to worry about. I have my finishing exam on the 3rd, so quit whining. Oh, and welcome to politics. After all, this is what NationStates is all about (Politics).

EDIT: You killed almost 400 of my citizens. Do you really think that I'd just sit idly by and smile?

I have done nothing against your nation after you payed up. All I did was declare you hostile. I have no intention to invade you. Just sink any of your ships that enter my waters/shoot down any of your planes that enter my airspace. IE passive defense. If you loose something to me, you will have to have ordered it into my waters/airspace yourself, making it your own mistake completely. Again, you have failed to read the post thurroughly(sp?) enough.

with the galapagos, a few questions, why do you want them so bad? is it not too late to talk about a small sale(obviously at a great loss to me), otherwise i will have to make that area a littile unhospitable :(.

With the torpedoes, that was ng's brain child. he sold them to me. im giving them back, but he still sold them to me.

Destroy the reactors. Try to fight back. Dont be taken alive.

The last of the heavy cargoe planes was takeing off Each was disguised as either medical transports or tankers or troop transports, onboard the troop transports were the actual troops along with there arms. If they were forced down, the EOL would believe that that was the only threat.

all of the scientific information that was once on the galapagos islands is now gone. all that remained were a small group of men...
man1:the airways and ports have been prepped. just awaiting you signal.
man2:i made sure that the charges around the reactors are perfect.
man3:105 other bombs have been set on the supports for the caverns.

Special Agent #423: very well. we will wait in the lowest floor. when the first ship goes near the island, the first bomb lands, or i recieve the signal from the fleet, we begin our counter attack using the batteries that were left here. once we are over run, or before the last man dies, pull the trigger. We have approximately 30,000 tons of dynamite down here, none of our equiptment will survive. I am prepareing a highspeed data uplink to one of our satalites waiting, it will then in turn beam our reaserch down to angola.

Stand and fight. BTW you do realize in 20 minutes, moving at 40 knots, you're only going to move 15 miles away. That doesn't consider the time necessary to get up to 40 knots.

OOC:
I was gonna use this post to make a reperatiobns demand for my submarine that was destroyed, but I think I'll wait a little bit for this to cool down.

DB, what you've gotta realize is that this is what happens when you RP. People in this game are incredibly opportunistic, and they'll jump all over you the minute you appear weak in any way. Like Lay said, he'd been wanting to invade the Galapogos, he was just looking for the right time to do it, this happened to be the right time. NG is just watching out for his allies. If he were to let you slide with using the equipment he sold you against his allies, they wouldn't appreciate that very much.

Really the most important thing I can tell you is to try as much as you can to keep IC and OOC seperate. By invading or attacking or blockading you, Lay and NG don't have anything against you personally. For example, with my sub, IC, my government is pissed as hell with you, but I have no personal dislike against you for sinking it.

The blockaide line was established. An AWACS aircraft was already up in the air, flying eighty-four miles behind the carrier, well within the picket and air coverage line. The E-2C Hawkeye was flying high, at twenty-four thousand feet, flying in a pattern under the cover of a pair of F-14E Super Tomcats. The plan of action was going to be to protect the fleet at all costs and engage enemy aircraft, if necessary. Bombardment was going to commence, eventually, but not yet. Aside from the AWACS and its patrol flight, three F-22N Raptors and two F-14E Super Tomcats defended the Enterprise. The Nimitz would be defended by four F-14E Super Tomcats with another two on ALERT 5 and four F/A-18C Hornets on ALERT 5. On the Vampire, a pair of Typhoons were sitting on the deck with another three in teh air. Both Wasps would be protected by a pair of Harrier IIs. The Ynogas would be protected by a pair of Vultures. If need be, they would fly their aircraft against the Galapagos or enemy aircraft flying from the Galapagos. Despite allowing the government to surrender, they weren't going to escape without a showdown. Any aircraft would be shot down and any ship would be sunk. There was no escape!

(LNN) The Imperial Layartebian Space Division announced today the deployment of a new intermediate range missile system. The missile system, code-name Saber, is designated MGM-195. It has two versions, marked "A" and "B."

The Layartebian News Network has been informed that the missile is 55.50 feet long, 5.87 feet in diameter, and 82,000 pounds. The range of the system is believed to be between 200 and 2,400 miles. It is a two-stage system and has a ceiling, reportedly around 750 miles. The speed of the missile is also reported to be 9,200 miles per hour. The warhead of the "A" version is in the area of one megaton and the "B" is loaded with three MIRV warheads, each of seven hundred and fifty kilotons. Accuracy is reportedly as high as 100 feet.

The ILSD has announced that it has deployed some 800 total systems and released the following document:

OOC:

First off, to everyone who is currently pissed off,

CALM DOWN!!!

Second, if the laser-guided torpedos were my idea, I probably came up with the concept out of ignorance of the fact that they wouldn't work.

Third, the government only sells export versions of our weaponry.

The submarines in question are only known of by The October Alliance, Cotland, and Hawdawg.

More importantly, the details of how they operate, how the sonar operates, and how the weapons work are incredibly well-protected from foreign nations.

In fact, the only nation that knows the basic specifics of those subs is Layarteb, my closest ally, and even he doesn't know the detailed workings.

Fourth, I'm not invading anyone. I've placed a blockade around the coastline of Angola to prevent DB warships from leaving harbor.

Fifth, in order to satisfy the government of NG, all conditions listed in the post I made concerning sanctions against DB must be met.

Now, I have no personal problems with you, Duke, I was just playing the game. I like you.

My apologies for making a mistake concerning how torpedos work, I'm not a military expert. I also apologize for any confusion due to my mistakes.

If you'd like, I'll compile a list of all allies of North Germania in E2.

So, relax, I'm taking no military action unless my government's demands aren't met.

Does that clear things up a bit?

OOC: DB how many aircraft took off man and in what direction? You need to post some numbers.

"Sir, we've got contacts taking off. They've got large radar signatures, probable cargo planes. We're not picking up any fighter-sized targets." The CIC of one of the Dnalkrad Class frigates. It was loaded with thirty-two RIM-162A Evolved Sea Sparrow Missiles for medium-range defense, twenty-four RIM-184A Standard SM-4MR missiles for medium-range defense, and thirty-two RIM-185A Standard SM-4ER missiles for long-range defense.

"We've got a bunch of them inbound."

"Aye. Mark targets, lock, and engage. Send the orders throughout the fleets."

"Yes sir." Immediately, signals went out throughout the fleet and every ship was targetting and tracking enemy aircraft, with their Standard SM-4 missiles and Evolved Sea Sparrow Missiles.

"12 KC-130 tankers are enroute from angola to our medical planes comming from the galapagos islands. there are many sick people who need treatment. we will not land anywhere. we request passage to the southern polar region where we will refuel our planes and return immeadatly..."

"Sir, we've got thirty contacts heading southward. Large targets. No visuals yet but they're out there." The CIC was alive and though the aircraft were out of the effective engagement envelope of the nearest frigate, it would only be a short matter of time. The multiple ships out there were basically tracking the enemy aircraft, preparing to fire. Once they got within range they would launch ESSMs and SM-4MRs. The burden wouldn't be handled by just the ships though. Six F-26A Typhoons off the southern Vampire were armed heavily. They each carried four AIM-120D AMRAAMs, four AIM-179A BVRAAMs, and six AIM-132A ASRAAMs. They also carried two 1500 litre tanks and a single 1000 litre tank. They were in the air, flying a picket line effectively. They were within the AIM-120D and AIM-179A engagement envelope.

Onboard the FKB-119 Missile Ship Gittern...

Leutnant zur See Dietrich was monitoring a radar screen in the Control Room of the Gittern, when blinking red dots appeared on the monitor.

[Translated from German...]

Leutnant zur See Dietrich: "Herr Grossadmiral Kretschmann, we have multiple in-bound targets. Big ones. They appear to be cargo planes, and we have smaller targets as well.

Fighter-sized by the looks of them.

Counting fourteen total large, undetermined small."

The Grossadmiral walked behind the Leutnant zur See and peered at the screen.

Grossadmiral Kretschmann: "Idiots. Did they forget about the naval embargo along here? I don't understand.

Very well. Order all FKB-119s to fire their SAMs. Take those planes down immediately."

Leutnant zur See Dietrich: "Jawohl, Herr Grossadmiral."

Dietrich relayed the orders, and within a matter of 40 seconds, 95 missiles lept out of the decks of the FKB-119 Missile Ships and sped towards the targets, decimating the small group of Barolish planes within less than a minute and a half.

DB, WTF are you talking about? You can't just go back and edit your posts and expect the rest of us to do as you say. It's just not how things are done. If you f*** up, you f*** up. Simple as that. Stand behind your actions and take the consequenses like the rest of us. Please. Ng and Layarteb have fired a heck of a lot of SAMs against your planes. Simple as that.

BTW, Post 129 is just a request for NG to check his TGs.

IC: Message to Germanian commander and the world.
This attack upon our rescue planes was an abomination. This was a rescue mission ment to save our scientists who are in need of medical help. They are currently enroute from the galapagos Islands via the South Pole. Now, we fear, they will have no chance of survival. The Empire Formally requests an escort for these planes so at least some of our boys can get home alive. Currently, Layartebian Planes are trailing our medi-vacs, prepareing to fire. Help me stop them nations of the world. Dont let them kill our children.

The Emperor

As that message was being broadcast...
"Descend to angels 10"
"Roger, Wait, We have company!"
"Repeat turtle 2"
"Layartebian planes are converging! they have a lock!"
"SHIT!!"

Layartebian Admiral-
Your planes are about to attack a medovac airlift from the island of the
galapagos. Please desist. We mean no harm. Please call off your jets!
Repeat, Please call off your jets!

Alright this post is entirely OOC.

1. How on God's green Earth did you get from the Galapagos to the South Pole, throguh all my missiles, past all my ships, etc. without taking a single loss, without noting a single missile launch, without noting a thing!

2. My aircraft won't be trailing you, they'll be on your nose since basically this was left off at (You're planes took off, I scrambled my fighters, and launched SAMs).

3. R-E-A-D!

I bolded parts for emphasis

1.you did not launch a single missile. ok, so there goes that argument. And maybe you should read your own posts.
2.On my nose? it says in your post they still dont have visual contact. Wit regards to distance, post edited accordingly, although 'Close' leaves alot of room.

Also, last time i checked, most planes can go faster than a frigate.

DB I'm going to kick you. My ships are between 35 and 120 miles from the coast of the Galapagos, surrounding them. That means my fighters are coming in from 35 to 120 miles. They aren't behind you, they are FLYING TOWARDS YOU. No shit I haven't launched a single missile because you never posted that you took off and then that you were out at the South Pole.

On your nose is a bearing. You don't have to be in visual range to be on your nose, it means that my position is ON YOUR NOSE.

My comment about missiles and this and that is because that's where we should be, we should be at that point where I am firing and you are responding.

Unfortunately since this is an utterly useless attempt I give up, I just give the hell up. It's next to impossible to RP with you. I tried and I've watched but I just can't do it. Keep the goddamn islands.

This is from post 131. i did say that i was flying them out. ok?
IC:
Open message to galapagos island reaserch facility and surrounding forces.
you are to surrender the base to the layartebian forces. any further action against the eol, is condemed. Please fly the injured scientists to the awaiting fleet.

The last of the heavy cargoe planes was takeing off Each was disguised as either medical transports or tankers or troop transports, onboard the troop transports were the actual troops along with there arms. If they were forced down, the EOL would believe that that was the only threat.

also, my other post is edited. if you want, ill contiue with the ic, if you still dont want to finish this, just let me know. i realy dont care.
also, if you do want to finish this, let me know what the responce was when my planes radioed this, from a few posts ago:
