Earth Medieval Britain Is Here!

This is a new earth idea, and before I start I’d like to thank everyone who helped me with it, even if it was just giving me opinions on it, so thanks to all of you.
This is set in Medieval Britain, as the name suggests, and instead of a country, you own a castle, you pick one out of the list below and tell me your choice, then RP with it. I’m looking for moderators for this earth if anyone’s interested, apply within. So, without further ado, let’s move onto the rules and castle listings.

Rules:

1) You may claim one castle only at the start.
2) An unclaimed castle is as if it doesn’t exist. You cannot attack an unclaimed castle. This is to prevent someone taking 10 castles before the rest have even started. [THIS RULE HAS BEEN LIFTED]
3) Try and RP realistically for the era. This includes line of sight, weaponry and the like.
4) Technology is locked. You use swords, trebuchets and other medieval weaponry. There will be no gunpowder weapons or other such things. No weapons development whatsoever.

Finance:
I’ve decided to adopt a unique system for sorting out how much money each person has. The currency I’m using is the Shilling. Because for obvious reasons you can’t use your NS stats, here’s how it’ll work.
Each Lord decides for him/her self how much he’s going to charge his peasants in taxes. (use a number with 0 on the end please). 1 RL week = I year. At the end of each week you get the amount of money, based on taxes. This will be used for your army stats. However, there are consequences. If you set 100% tax, you can honestly expect the civilians under your control to revolt, so it isn’t recommended. The lower the tax, the less the chance of revolts.

10% = 5’000
20% = 10’000
30% = 15’000
40% = 20’000
50% = 25’000
60% = 30’000
70% = 35’000
80% = 40’000
90% = 45’000
100% = 50’000

You'll find England and Wales have a lot of castles, and I couldn't use them all. So chances are I didn't forget it, but merely didn't need it.

1) Like I said, lots of castles, and I decided to keep the scale small. If the castles all fill up, I promise to add in some from Scotland.

2) You're given the castle. You are allowed to do things such as adding moats (taking into account the time it would take) or increasing the fortifications, but not destroying and starting over.

3) I have no idea if this is the real value of the shilling, I made up a random one.

And how do we figure our forces? I have several billion people in my country, and me getting into a fight with anyone here wouldnt be fair. Do we need to divide our populations by a certain number to get a respectable force size for medevil(sp?) rping? Ive only rped modern rps before, never anything like this but it looked interesting and original. And besides, I may not be able to do this since I have a claim awaiting confirmation in Earth II.

Well, it states in the charter I cant be part of another 'Earth' but since this is kinda different there may be extenuating circumstances.

In order to keep the tax system constant for everyone, it means everyone must have the same population. I've decided (with some help) to make this population 5'000 people. Of these about 2'500 will be eligible for fighting, you can pick though if you want less. How many stay/go to war, from what age people can take up arms, all these things will affect the amount of troops you can have. Don't forget that the soldiers will be normal workers during peacetime.

How many knights can we have? Knights are very different from peasents... also, how many warhorses are we allowed? Important question. While we aren't allowed to play with technology, can we play with social structure and tactics?... like organized well diciplined foot infantry? Are we allowed to be edging towards the late 1400s in social systems? A lot of those castles were built very late.

What level of armour are we at... still pre-gothic? Do we have articulate plate armour, or simply chainmail.... in other words, what year is the tech stuck at?

And, if I can't be a mod, I'd like Harlech if possible, Conwy if not.

Well... there's medieval and there's medieval... ranges from the idiotic 'minstral charges' of the aristocracy, to the welsh longbowmen, to swiss pikemen, hussite war-wagons... if you go a little further afield, you can find anything from the mandugai of the mongols to (going a little back in time, but not all that far) the diciplined and professonal Byzantine Kataphractoi

I can only give you castles from that list, and Harlech wasn't there, so Conwy it is. :)

Depends how you mean. I'd probably grant you a bit more leeway seeing as York is tiny. If what you mean is something like putting a moat at the bottom, that would be fine. As to actually extending the castle, I'm afraid the same rules would have to apply as to everyone else, which is no.

I actually don't know much about the castles of that era. To me, a dang Welsh Hill Fort has the same capabilties as a Norman-Style Keep.

In all fairness, I don't know much about them either. You don't need to, just find a website about them and you can get all the information you need.

hey, ima Kaduna but ima begining to RP as me again and dropping Kaduna, i also want to know if i could RP as a castle that isn't on the list, Castle Acre in Norfolk, I was born pretty much right next to it, and used to visit it every day, if so then drop me as Rochester and sign me up for Castle Acre.

If you can find me an aerial picture or ground plan of Castle Acre, then I will let you RP as it.
