Calpe`s Factbook

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y159/muahdib/mapofcalpe.jpg

Background: With a history going back almost 300 years, Calpe is a young nation. Before the arrival of romanian colonists from Europe, all that was here were some tribes of natives that came here also almost 200 years before us and wiped out the original population of the island. Due to the communist leadership that came to power in Romania, Calpe decided to go independent and after fierce battles with the Romanian Navy, former Romanian king`s son, Adrian took power with the help of East Pacific Alliance and proclaimed Calpe as a duchy and himself as Duke Of Calpe, under the protectorate of The East Pacific emperor. The year was considered 1 A.D. (After Duke), and the independent history of Calpe begun from here. In the year 23 A.D., Duke Alexander came into power, his father Adrian retiring to the Castle of Arda. In 28 A.D., Calpe joins The United Nations and The Damnian Alliance in 30 A.D. With the creation of the first Calpe Army begun the arming race for a better protection of the country. In the year 37 A.D., Duke Alexander proclaimed himself to be Emperor Alexander.

Calpian Space Agency (CSA)

Following the military requierements of a network of military satelites for gathering information and telecomunications, the CSA, formerly only acting as a research center, was expanded and received funds to develop capabilities beyond anything it hoped before. The budget was raised from a 6 billion $ budget to 50 billion $, with the promise to be increased further in the years to come. The military program was completed with the help of the SATDEL Model 3 Rocket, with production rights for it acquired from Acquatio.

Targets:
- man in space in the next 10 years
- man on the Moon in the next 15 years
- research colony on the Moon in the next 30 years
- unmanned probes sent towards all planets in the Solar System in the next 10 years
- manned flight to Mars in the next 25 years
- permanent colony on Mars in the next 40 years

Ok, just some observations...

Thats a lot of military equipment to RP for a nation of 40 million people (as you stated), and a lot of forces as well.

Although I am not bothering with your troops numbers (well done you are to applauded not going OTT with that), it's more the scale of equipment in that you've got a lot of equipment there for a 40 million nation.

Just wondering if you can clear that up for me :)

I assume your using Britain or a European nation as a model for your nation?

All in all well done, excellent work, I hope to see lots of you on NS.

(Btw you might get into problems RPing as only 40 million, since the big players have one to several billion people in their NS accounts (as well as god knows how many in their Empires, and the billions isn't unrealistic just think China with an even greater economy than the US).

The equipment doesnt seem that much to me. For a 40 mil. people country is normal to have that much. I took Romania, Spain and some other nations as example.
Romania has 23 mil. people and 1373 tanks and it is still a developing country with some 50-55 k men in the land army.
While Britain has only some 6-700 tanks, it has almost 4000 IVF,APC`s and reconaisance vehicles. Thats for a 120 k men land army.
Spain (40 mil population): Land forces 92 k people, 688 tanks, 2000 APC`s, 194 howitzers, 310 towed artillery.

U might say i got a little over the top with the 1440 tanks for a 100 k men army, but only 300 of those are very good tanks. The rest of 1140 are T-55`s modified to current standards, designed and build in Calpe. I role play it as a country that is slowly gaining experience in weapons design by making and buying less advanced equipment at first.
The equipment may seem much, but from what i researched with the RL armies these are normal figures for a more tank aproach army.
The number of support vehicles (trucks)...its about 6 k trucks for the army...dunno if that sounded as too much for you....but i thought that the number of tankers for water and gass+ the trucks that are needed to carry enough supplies, ammo and equipment to maintain a good logistics in times of war are quite big.
If u still think i exagerated with the equipment, i`ll use it for now...or put some in reserve and when the country grows a little more i`ll use the excess equipment to make the 3rd Army....or just transfer to the marines....as i didnt yet created the order of battle for the navy infantry :)

Might be wrong about all this....dunno...please share your thoughts on what i said :)
As to the difficulty in finding a role play with this army....i have some friends that will help me get a small part in a RP, not the main carracter...more in terms of support with some ships or troops...or defending their land if needed with marines or something.....dunno....but i dont need a big army to keep me happy:)
And thx for the reply :)

sorry about that...i`ll modify the website

PS: i reduced the number of tanks in the army from 1440 to 960 and i cut in half the armored vehicles and fast atack vehicles. I left he IFV/APC`s to that number. If anything else doesnt seem right please tell me :)

Anyway, I would reccomend beefing up your navy a bit, as you're an island nation.

thx ... and i updated the website a little....the manufacturer of each equipment is there now ....the website still needs a lot of work on it....put the order of battle there too....aircraft in service.....cities and military bases...new map with the army, navy and airforce bases.....well...its a work in progress :)....hope i`ll finish it this week.

ya...i know...i`m buying a used light carrier from Dumpsterdam these days...and researching my own diesel submarine, frigate and missile boat :P
I didnt spend much on the navy last couple of days because i made the order of battle for the ground forces and spent the money on making a complete army....with everything required :)

My point is more about me assuming you that they were up-to-date Modern tanks (although, in NS we have things that make modern tanks look like child's toys)...

It was more a query about cost, but I suppose if people are satisfied with it, I won't fault you.
Calpe
15-04-2005, 11:58
no....about 20% of the tanks and 45% of the IFV/APC numbers are modern and bought from the outside. The rest are of own design, produced in Calpe and are not as effective as the others. They`re not exactly WW2 material...but they`re not 3rd millenium equipment either
the military budget from the last 12 NS years with military purchases can be seen in the website in my signature ... everything i bought is confirmed there :)...i`m updating that page everyday, as i make military purchases for each NS year

lovely amount of details, nice job :) .
Although, there was one thing that i have to ask for. Those armoired divisions, that is. 1600 infantry soldiers certainly are to few for whole of 250 MBT's. That kind of division is not able to accomplish independent missions without screen provided by infantry divisions. To get my idea, compare your division to thoe of WW2 or even nowadays American. But that's just one detail, overall this page is awesome :) .

14-05-2005, 22:42
Thanks :D....yeah...you`re right...I should up those numbers....I used as infantry only those that were carried by the APC/IFV`s...nothing additional...probably should have added more then that
You have any idea what a good number of soldiers would be for an armored division?
Madnestan
14-05-2005, 22:55
Well, my knowledge is mostly consentrated on WW2, but i think that the main rules havent changed too much. Germans had a panzerdivision of some 150 to 250 tanks and 2 regiments of infantry, some 3000 infantry in each. So i think for your divisions, something between 6000 and 10,000 could be good. Remember, I'm far from an expert...

Well, as im now so in to this unauthorized and unexpertized criticism :p I'll whine about another issue. It cannot be described as "mistake" though, but I still think that having 5 divisions in each Army Corps instead of the usual 3 is giving kinda lot of work to those Lieutenant generals, while Army commanders are getting bored as they have only 2 corps under their command :D ...
That's ok though, just differs from the usual way of commanding.

Hehe, i consider it pretty much descentralized command, kind`off like the american units are. Even a brigade commander has some liberty on his actions. Leads to errors sometimes, but to surprising results and selection of the command material on others.

Hmm, the military spendings are not updated, while the army is updated every time i buy something. My budget according to ThirdGeek is 296 bil. I didnt count the soldiers yet...but its around 1-1.5 mil people.....that would be 200-300.000 $/ soldier.....i believe the US army spends around 150-200.000 $/soldier in RL.....
Do tell me if i`m making a mistake somewhere....maybe i overlooked something

Military manpower - fit for service - 56,150,000 (ages 15-49)

Ahhh...if you`re refering to this....then those are the numbers of people that can be mobilised in times of war....man able to carry a gun, but still civilians....but i`ll never use that many soldiers.....at most i have plans to give AK-47`s and some ammo to civilians for guerrila warfare.
