Today, April the 10th, Taldaan is one year old. In reflection, its been an enjoyable year, populated with enjoyable people.
I joined Nationstates one day when I was bored. My brother had been bugging me for around two weeks to join up (he never RPed, and his nation was deleted for inactivity months ago), but I held out, refusing to join the "geeky web game". Then, one day, with nothing to do, I thought that I may as well try it out. The Republic of Taldaan was born, a tiny nation just like any other beginner.
This state of affairs continued until June or July, I forget which. I had been answering my issues and voting on UN resolutions just like any non-RPer, at one point even trying my hand at writing my own. Taldaan was a small nation, spending most of its time as a Left-Leaning College State.
Then I discovered the forums. At first I was intimidated by the vast numbers, but I was mostly intrigued by International Incidents. The idea that your nation could do things other than answering the daily issues was fascinating. Taking a deep breath, I dived in.
It was a few weeks before I started posting. Unlike a majority of new RPers, I had read the stickies thoroughly and understood that this was not the place for AOL speak. Unfortunately, I was a complete n00b. Although I did not godmod much, I still had plenty to learn. Unfortunately, I was a complete asshole to anyone who tried to teach me if they made even the slightest criticism. I apologise to all those I offended in this way, and hope that they can forgive me..
This n00bish larval stage culminated in a joint attack against six younger nations. They were n00bs, yes, but like many they probably could have been salvaged. When it became clear that they were not going to RP, I decided that I had marched in freely. When one of them finally tried to mount a resistance, I denounced him as a n00bish godmoder. In retrospect, it was probably that incident that cooled me down a little. It was later that day that I realised what I had done, and resolved to become better at RP. I started to join more, and in an effort to become better I joined Sanctaphrax's learning RPs. These were valuable practice, and they helped me become better, although I still made the occasional blip.
Recently, I have become more involved in future-tech RPing as well as modern. I have also participated a little in General, as well as making very occasional forays into Nationstates. I started a few threads, although most of them sunk. These included selling various unworkable naval vessels and aeroplanes.
There was, however, one RP that I made that actually succeeded. Ice Cream Havoc in Toku City was the tale of two deadbeat crazies, an atheist missionary, special forces operatives, a pink fluffy llama, and lots and lots of ice cream. Although it was essentially one long godmode from every side, this didn't matter as it was a non-serious RP. I would like to thank Chinkopodia, MassPwnage, Henrytopia, Derscon, and anyone that I missed off for making it possible. Sequel is in the works, but it will probably be a long time.
To wrap up, I would like to thank everyone here for making a fun, welcoming environment, and providing so many hours of happiness here which I should probably have been using for something else. Thank you. Please vote in my poll on the way out, comments are welcome.
Edit: 1 of the votes for "I have not read any of it" is mine. I wanted to be able to see the results quickly every time.
