Hawdawg to extend compulsory military service [Earth II]

Hawdawg Minister of Defense Jefferson Davis called for the extension of compulsory military service for all males and females from four years to six years today amid a firestorm of criticism. Members of Parliament complained this would cause undo hardship on the younger citizens of Hawdawg. Mr. Davis dismissed this talk as rubbish. The plan calls for all students upon graduation of high school to serve in a branch of military service of there choosing for six years. Upon completing the sixth year of service, people are allowed to return to everyday life, but must report to Reserve Duty every third weekend for a period of 10 years in the respective branch of service they participated in.

In other news a large group of Hawdawg troops has mobilized in Sweden to participate in the first ever "international war games event" several countries were invited to participate and a large bulk of the Hawdawg military is planning on running about the countryside assisting and engaging in the event. Organizers say this is unprecedented in nature and the spirit of cooperation among each country participating is quite high. The event will kick off Monday and will run for 5-7 days sources state.

Parliament passed the controversial legislation extending the length of compulsory service for high school graduates today with a 152 - 78 vote. Critics complained this extended service would hurt the economy and dampen the morale of the younger generation. This argument was extinguished when the students for military service rally marched to the steps of Parliament. An estimated crowd of 750,000 voiced there opinion for this legislation and it is rumored a students are asking to join before they graduate from High School. The enacting of this law will bolster the strength of the current military force by at least 15%. Last census information indicated 31% of Hawdawg's population was under 26 years old. In response to this increased influx of trainee's the Department of Defense has started a pre-boot camp training regiment that is taking place in all High Schools across Hawdawg. Students Physical Education classes are to be replaced by this pre-training regiment. Our sources tell us weapons training will be included in the High Schools. It is also been disclosed to us that the Defense Department is considering issuing LIVE Hand Grenades to all active Reservists along with 200 rounds of ammunition to be stored in there household. All active Reservists currently are allowed to keep there weapons at there homes.

We do not advise any army personnel store explosives like hand grenades at home especially where there are young children who do not comprehend the danger posed by these objects.
