The sun was out and shining bright, just as it was the day before for the launching of the Navy's new Kraken class heavy cruisers. The shipyard of Arrio had not seen such excitement since before all of Aequatio's vessels began to be constructed throughout the Republic, these were the first warships built in the Arrio shipyards in nearly twenty-four years. The Basilisk was in actuality the second ship of its class, however, due to an accident on the slipway the class-leader's completion was delayed which allowed the Basilisk to be the first constructed.
She had spent the day before after her launch in the harbour finishing detail work and arming before preparing for setting out for her cruise along the coast South until leaving for a voyage around the Republic, stopping at each of the nation's naval bases and large port cities. She was a new design with completely redesigned nuclear reactors and were to make up for the lack of a multi-purpose role of the previous Tiger class heavy cruisers. As she steamed for the harbour entrance, her high bow cut through the water and produced a sharp wake behind her. Flags of the Navy and the Aequatian flag flew proudly from her masts, with her name displayed in bold lettering on her stern, the Basilisk was a definate testamony to Aequatian military might, her triple-gun turrets at the ready and glistening in the sunlight of the tropical Arrioian climate and the splash from the water kicked up from the ship's wake. It was a grand day for the Republic and it's people, once again its Navy proved and represented the nation's greatness and value.
