"Given the current climate of economic development in the world, we must face the facts that some degree of responsiveness to markets is essential to the efficient operation of the economy, the government, and the health, flexibility and freedom of Australus society overall."

"Australus has been in the midst of a recession for several years under the Rodebosjes Convention, which established the current Socialist Consensus. While recognising that open access to quality education, healthcare and a high quality of life are essential, we must recognise the need to change the way our country operates.

"We must encourage a higher degree of entrepeneurship, economic dynamism and flexibility, cost-effectiveness in government, and modernisation coupled with accountability, and checks and balances to prevent corruption."
-A. Hendrik James, Australus Chancellor

Background on the country:
Australus is a technologically advanced, modern city-state of approximately one billion. Educationally, we have achieved universal literacy. We have a system of publically funded universal healthcare. Crime levels in Australus are low.

Australus has two international airports, an extensive rail network, and one large-scale deepwater container port. Additionally, the country is currently heavily dependent upon imports for agricultural goods. The economy revolves mostly around services industries.

Most of our industries are operated under a hybrid of state-ownership and employee cooperatives. We would like to maintain some semblance of the employee cooperative system coupled with freer market systems.

Politically, Australus is a bicameral parliamentary democracy modelled after that of Britain.

Australus is now soliciting the assistance of the leading capitalist economies to develop the second Rodebosjes Convention, to engage in limited free market reforms.
