Horror in the Congress

Ghorunda
04-04-2005, 13:07
The citizens of Ghorunda were in shock early this morning, when several squads of Ghorunda Marines stormed the Capitol building just as the Representatives and the Chancellors of the Congress were arriving for the workday. The Marines barred the entrance and locked the politicans inside, refusing anyone exit under penalty of death. The Premier, Joseph Velaris, declared martial law just moments ago, claiming that the Congress has been declared a "traitorous group against the Republic," and that "[they] will not be freed until they recognize the soverignty of the Premiership to do as it will."

Many analysts state that this incident was the culmination of disputes in Congress over some recent legislation, namely that of outlawing elections, and increasing military spending.

We will continue to provide up-to-the-date coverage as it happens. For GNN, this is Tony Kent.

This is an outrage.

Farmina filed a copyright relating to members of the government being called Chancellors. We demand the term is immediately changed or we will sue.

We also object to this military coup.

Well A.) You can't copyright general government position names, B.) Even if you could, such provisions would have to go through the U.N., which Ghorunda is not a member of anyways and thus does not have to answer to, and C.) In relation to the coup, that's your views, so what?

After hours of tension, it seems peace, in one form or another, has finally returned here to Ghorunda. With increasing pressure building, Congress ultimatley moved to dissolve itself, leaving the Office of the Premier as the chief legislative and executive body in the land. A new flag was raised over the Capitol today, and Premier Velaris subsequently spoke again to the press, saying that this is a "....glorious day for the Republic. We have put the power of the government into the hands of those who truly know how to wield it."

However this has not gone over without opposition. There are reports of protests in the street, and there are increasing reports of deaths of protestors as a result of government action, as well.
