Geisenfried is an island nation in the Atlantic, located north of the Azores islands. Consisting of 4 islands, Arcadie, Blanc, Courant, and Destin. Blanc is in the north, Arcadie in the east, Courant to the south, and Destin to the west. For more info on the islands, read their specific details.
Arcadie Island:
The most commercial, most populated and the largest island in the chain. It is home to the capital, Arcadie City, which houses 2.2 million inhabitants. Most of the land here is used for either industry or commerce with its large population base. Approximate Island Population: 3.8 million inhabitants
Blanc Island:
This island is home to a huge mountain range. It has a large winter season, and a lower population, as the mountains have prevented areas of large development. However, it is home to Geisenfried's mining industries, as the mountains are rich in materials. Approximate Island Population: 500,000 inhabitants
Courant Island:
This island is the second most populated island, being home to forests and plains. Most agriculture in Geisenfried occurs here, as its soil is fertile, and its climate pleasant. An area towards the north of the island features beautiful landscapes, giving it a large tourist base as well. Approximate Island Population: 1.6 million inhabitants
Destin Island:
This island is a desolate wasteland, plagued by volcanoes and little moisture. While there are some amount of minerals here, the barren conditions mean very few living areas. Approximate Island Population: less than 100,000 inhabitants
History:
The Constitutional Monarchy of Geisenfried may have never occured had it not been for a storm. In 1910, when crossing the Atlantic, a ship crashed upon Arcadie Island. Confused, the civilian crew tried to gain contact, but their remote location prevented it. Attempts were tried to leave, but no one knew where to head, and no aid came. So, the 1,679 people began building. With the plentiful resources of Arcadie Island, they began the current capital, Arcadie City. They began prospering and expanding, exploring the other three islands in the chain. Soon, Courant Island was being inhabited, as well as attempts to inhabit Blanc and Destin, with little success. However, luck came on their side when a recon plane sweep in the Atlantic in the 1950s found the islands. By now, the population had risen to around 3,000. Other nations began coming to the islands to use as a rest stop between trading. However, the lowly status was changed when huge amounts of valuable resources were found on Blanc Island. The population exploded, growing 100 times its former size in only 3 years, simply from immigration! By the end of the 1970s, the population was 2 million, and by 1985, 4.5 million people were on the islands.
Recently, a family named the Geisenfrieds, who owned a large corporation and considerable swaying power, called for independence, tired of foreign taxes. Alexander, head of the family, moved the populus to agree with them, and they declared autonomy soon after. For their roles, the Geisenfried family were not only named the constitutional monarchs, but the entire country was named after them. Fitting, as they were the ones who had pioneered that independence.
Government:
Geisenfried is a constitutional monarchy, but unlike some monarchies, the King acts as the head of the executive branch of government, similar to a president of a republic. There are elections, however, they are only for the legislative Senate, which consists of 75 members. Despite this, Geisenfried is very liberal.
The five major parties in Geisenfried are as follows:
Progressive Party: (64% of vote in last election)
Easily the majority party, it is liberal, and looks to use modern day science and culture to create laws. Currently holds 48 seats in the Senate.
Traditionalist Party: (21% of vote in last election)
A smaller party, it is conservative and looks to the ways of the olden world for laws. Currently holds 16 seats in the Senate.
Libertarian Party: (8% of vote in last election)
The more extreme liberal party, it looks to open civil rights to their maximum extent, and even replace the monarchy with a democracy. However, the King is very popular with the people, and some fear democratic corruption, hence its small support. Currently holds 6 seats in the Senate.
Spcialist Party: (5% of vote in last election)
A party committed to changing the market system into socialism, but most don't like the idea. Currently holds 4 seats in the house.
Fascist Party: (2% of vote in last election)
This party wants authoritative rule, but has a very little support base. Currently holds only 1 seat in the house.
Diplomatic Relations:
Currently, Geisenfried has had few diplomatic ties, due to its near unknown status as a nation. However, it has managed to become a member of the UN, and holds a few embassies.
