Today in New Vyborg, Hans Immler, the minister of security, announced that the president of Patriotic Finland, Antero Kosola, has signed the Executive Order 2005/52, which in practice completely outlaws both right and left extremist parties and other political organizations. The text of the Executive Order gives the minister of security the power to outlaw "political organizations that seek to destabilize the Federated Republics (of Patriotic Finland), seek to or encourage, support or participate in criminal activity or other illegal activity or spread ethnical or religious hatred." Howewer, within one month of the decision, outlawing of an organization must be validated by the Federal High Court. Almost immediately after the Executive Order was signed, minister Immler in turn signed the Security Directive 2005/16, outlawing almost every extreme-left and extreme-right organization in Patriotic Finland, plus several religious groups.
Political extreme-left groups outlawed:
- Socialistic People's Party (communist party. Two seats in the lower house of the Congress (House of Representatives) and several seats on state and city councils)
- Red-Green Union (communist enviromental association)
- National Communist Party (economically communist party with neo-nazi social policies. No seats in the Congress or local councils.
- Socialistic Labour Union (communist trade union)
- Academic Leftist League (association of left-wing university teachers and students)
18 smaller organizations.
Political far-right organizations outlawed:
- The Fatherland Party (far-right party. 6 seats in the House of Representatives)
- Christian Nationalist Party (fundamentalist christian far-right party. One seat in the House of Representatives)
- Aryan Nationalist Party (neo-nazi party associated with the Aryan League)
- Aryan League (neo-nazi white supremacist association)
- Nationalist Libertarian Front (organization strongly opposed to government involvement in everyday life. Also strong white supremacist wing. Known for extreme anti-law tendencies)
- Ku Klux Klan Patriotic Finland (note: DECLARED AS A TERRORIST ORGANIZATION AND A LEVEL B TERRORIST THREAT. MEMBERSHIP IN A TERRORIST ORGANIZATION IS PUNISHABLE BY A SENTENCE OF MAXIMUM 15 YEARS)
34 smaller organizations.
Other outlawed organizations:
- Islamic Council of Patriotic Finland (religious fundamentalists)
- Legion of God's Truth (christian fundamentalists)
Within minutes after signing of the directive, Federal Security Corps troops assisted by local police moved in to the offices and buildings belonging to the outlawed organizations and confiscated all documents and computers belonging to the organizations. According to a Ministry of Security representative, they will be handed over to VEP (Valtion Erikoispoliisi in Finnish, State Special Police in English) for investigation. Again according to an MoS representative, the abovementioned buildings have been sealed until the Federal High Court verifies the directive. If outlawing of an organization is verified by the FHC, it's property will be auctioned. Membership in an illegal organization can be punished by a maximum 5 years in prison, while leadership of an illegal organization can lead to a sentence of 10 years.
The directive has already sparked intense discussion around the country. "This is disgusting. Even though these banned organizations are without doubt dangerous, we cannot claim to be protecting democracy by limiting it." commented civil rights activist Osmo Soinivuori. "Mr. Soinivuori's opinions are ridiculous. If those wackos that the government outlaws would have it their way, we'd have to shout "Sieg Heil!" every time a cop car drives by. And even if they wouldn't get to power, some other wackos would force women to wear robes while outside. Is that the Patriotic Finland you want?" commented Ilkka Kuusisto, Patriotic Federalist Party senator from the Kannelmäki state.
