: For the record:
First, this is going to be a serious attempt at RP.
I am not asking anyone to accept this if they do not want to. No one needs to Role-Play this or even bother with a response. However if you respond In-Character you will have already agreed to accept these events as I have laid them out and you will not attack this inital post for godmod, as this is simply a device to create a new "RP environment". (Being the world that would exist in aftermath of this event.) I would appreciate it however, if a few of you took me up on this.

The surface of the earth has been ravaged by massive, orbital objects of an unknown origin, the world is in chaos.

The following is an excerpt from a hasty report put together for us by Homeworld Security from satellites, ground observatories and flyovers early today during and after the second of a series of impacts.

The second projectile's diameter was about 2 miles (3218m) at the largest point
Judging from telescopic information and impact data it's density it was most likely solid iron coated in ice and dust.
The impact velocity was about 60 miles per second (96 km/s) and the angle was recorded at 67 degrees
The energy before atmospheric entry is guesstimated at 6.52 x 1023 Joules or 1.56 x 108 MegaTons TNT
The initial impact was measured at 10.1 on the Richter Scale.
Most masonry and frame structures were destroyed with their foundations. well-built wooden structures and bridges destroyed or at least made impassable.. Serious damage to dams, dikes, embankments. Large landslides. Water was thrown on banks of canals, rivers, lakes, etc. Sand and mud shifted horizontally on beaches and flat land. Railroad tracks were bent greatly. Underground pipelines put completely out of service. Large rock masses were displaced. Lines of sight and level were distorted. Artificial objects were thrown into the air. The average ejecta thickness (from the actual projectile) was ~10,000 ft and spread the damage over a a much wider area.
Maximum radiation was recorded 1.8 seconds after impact
The fireball engulfed the entire impact area, it was well over 30 miles and appeared 729 times larger than the sun. The irradiation lasted 2250 seconds.
The effects of thermal radiation were almost as disastrous as the initial impact.Newspapers, trees, grass, even clothing and wooden buildings ignited from the heat. Anyone caught in it suffered third degree burns all over the body.
The air blast, arriving several seconds after the fireball was measured before sensors failed. The peak overpressure was 18,300 psi (1.29e+08 Pa /1290 bars) and the wind velocity was 20,500 mph (9150 m/s)The sound created by the air blast was around 162 decibels which is loud enough to deafen.
From the air-blast alone we can be sure that all wood frame buildings were wiped out completely. Multistory office buildings suffered extreme frame distortion, most likely collapsed. Almost every still-standing bridge collapsed. Glass windows shattered, cars and trucks were thrown around the fuel tanks exploding in many cases. And that any trees not already burned buy the fireball would be blown down.

The crater diameter is estimated at 95.4 miles (154 km), and the crater depth at 18.8 miles( 30.3 km)
The volume of the area melted or vaporized is 1280 miles3 (5330 km3)
Roughly half the melt remains in the crater , where its average thickness is 3040 feet(926 meters)

72 other such impacts, nearly identical impacts, (the only difference being that they impacted other locations) were recorded before the space station and orbital network went down, most likely taken down with one of the projectiles. We were able to track at least 100 additonal projectiles inbound before the station went down, but they came so fas..., there was no way to detect them before they reached the moon much less do anything about it.
Homeworld Security Protocol ONE has been activated. Still, key personnel and international contacts are not responding, already hundreds are reported missing. Of nearly 2 billion, only 4.5 million have been confirmed alive so far and all remaining units have been ordered to retreat into pre-determined underground facilities, fallout shelters, out-of-use missile silos, etc.

At this time it appears rouge nations have launched intercontiental ballistic missiles at their enemies, perhaps in this confusion, thinking they can get away with it, or maybe they think their enemies are responsible. No official count of ICBM's could be made since all satelies orbiting earth have been dropping like flies, no doubt disabling communications networks and ABM defenses. The nuclear warheads, no matter where they hit, will no doubt fuel this malestrom.... and this holocaust. We believe we are seeing, the end of the world as we know it.
