Due to a dwindling supply of iron ore in the Commonwealth, a new material was sought that was both strong and cheap. The solution was spider silk, which tends to be 5 times as strong as steal. However,how to produce spider silk in useful quanities and how to employ this was a quadry.

The solution to suffecent production was discovered first. The solution was genetic engineering. By having their DNA make up altered, goats can produce spider silk in useful quantities. The method of empolying spider silk was discovered shortly there after by Commonwealth scientists. It was nothing new, and infact was just a modification to an existing process:

Spider glass.

Spider glass process is a modification of fiberglass construction technique. Threads of spider silk are sprayed against a mold, do whatever depth is desired. The process bonds the silk strands into a solid material, that is both strong and light. The technique can produce to any shape and any thickness, making it able to replace steel in most applications. It is already used in the Commonwealth in most ships as well as aerocraft.

The Commonwealth Government holds the patent on the genetic altercation process as well as the bonding process. However, we are happy to share this with friendly governments and coporations.

Price of one goat: $10,000
Rights to the genetic altercation: $1 billion
Rights to the spray and bonding process: $10 billion

We do not intend to use the spider silk for the manufacture of this so-called Spider glass. We are more interested in utilizing the raw slik for other applications.[ including but not limited to backpacks, military clothing and web gear(pardon the pun)]
