OOC: Before i start I want to send out a messaqge to all nations that abuse there people, torture them and just plain do bad stuff please TG me. Im looking for a nation like that to come and take over my country for the rp.

IC:

The country of Zackaroth on the outside looked like a stable and strong nation but inside it was a disaster ready to happen. The oil wells were drying up and prices were going up, new anti-christian factors had risen up since a ban on occult practices. The old regime that had cruelly ruled over the land before was rising again and had made a deal with the faction planning to betray them later...

On a normal day. A regular day the nation fell from its grace. Attacks has started. The military was caught off guard and was crippled at one of the majior bases were most weapons were stored. Sucided bombers attacked cities while the rebels stormed the cities taking them easily with weapons bought from the black market. Zackaroths airforce was also crippled when some planes were rigged with exploisve killing many. The great citidal that had stood in nagas was now crumbling due to flank attacks. though the High leader and the Archbishops disappeared supposedly leaving the people to die....

Withen day Zackaroth was a smoldering mess. Before the anti-christian factions or the old regime could take over there alliance crumbled and they fought. The factions split into pieces. It had turn into a massive civil war. The people begged and hoped for a mircale but it never came. To them there God and leader had left them to die....

() A tragedy, certainly... but also an opportunity.

The Rayverr already had a reputation of taking on military action to nullify the threats of rogue nations due to ClemsonTigers; it is not such a stretch to continue that to protect territories from lawlessness and to establish a peaceful order.

That such a peaceful order requires the Rayverr to expand the bounds of the vesh is, in the end, a most welcome 'sacrifice.'

All of this measured up in Mater's mind as she gazes up at a different starfield, reclining back on a couch of piled pillows and cushions, as she thinks to Commandant Big-Gripper so far away. () I will have Green-Stone read a statement of our intent, and we shall move in much as we did for Cvechiokal. We establish order, we declare that we will leave the choice to the people in a year.. She chuckles softly. And after that sop to democratic desires, they are legitimately of our family.

Far away, hidden deep under layers of armored hull and metal-plated decks, the blue-toned Warrior rolls his shoulders. () Certainly, honored Mater. I will assemble a battleplan immediately. And... honored Mater?

() Yes, my child?

() Why is General-Officer Sharp-Claws hanging in battle formation? An errand for you?

The mental remnant of a chuckle. () Yes, an errand. I am watching it now; it does not appear to be a wise one. You are indeed the better strategic mind. He will be directed back to your command if you need him and his forces.

() You honor me too highly, honored Mater, and thank you. I will get to it immediately.

It was early morning when the family woke up. The mother went into the kitchen to serve the last emain food when men broke into the house. There signs on there clothes indicated they were from a anti-christian faction. They shot up the mother with there ak 47's and went into the bed room were the father and son was also firing at them. The small village was being raided by these men. suddenly the old regime pulls in firing widley at civilians and the other faction widley. thus was a normal day in Zackaroth now.

Just like before the conflict with Cvechiokal, Third-Daughter Green-Stone appears behind her podium in the Rayverr embassy in Cetaganda. She wears the green checkerboard of the vesh, which somehow does not clash too violently with her blue-violet scales as she speaks into the cameras, her English carrying with it the sibilant, aspirated accent common to all rayverr. "For some time, the vesh pij verr has been observing the nation of Zackaroth. The recent collapse of centralized power, however, was unfortunately unexpected.

"Due to the risk that complete anarchy poses to the people of Zackaroth, we have assembled a peacekeeping force from Cvechiokal to restore order in this troubled nation. We have nothing but the best intentions for the citizens of Zackaroth, and indeed our administration of Cvechiokal will be the model for the vesh's post-conflict operation of Zackaroth.

"We will not announce exactly when our operations will start, for reasons of military operational security. However, the vesh pij verr does wish to deliver an ultimatum to the warring factions of Zackaroth: you have fourty-eight hours to lay down your arms and transmit your cessation of hostilities to the vesh pij verr. Failure to do so will compel us to take what means are necessary to end this time of chaos and restore order to the innocent civilians of Zackaroth."

OOC:

Excellent, for reasons to be explained later. Is Zackaroth landlocked, or does it have sea access, and where?

More fighting today. The battle for the captiel city was ended today. The Occluts of Satan had taken it after heavey battles. The other 2 factions retreated only to fight again in the city of Toss were more losses were confirmed. Satanic rituals were performed in Naga. Children and women were killed brutallty. The streets were littered with bodies and bullets.

Three days after the ultimatum, the assembled Rayverr force strikes according to Big-Gripper's strategy. Fighters move in from Cvechiokal in the northwest--it is not expected that the warring parties have any sort of coherent air force, but aerospace dominance still has to be asserted before bombers can be sent in for close air support.

Normally, any amphibious invasion should begin with a bombardment of the coastline to root out defenders--however, this is a police action, not an invasion, and so the Rayverr forces do without. Auxiliary dry cargo (ADC) ships settle down in the ocean off the coast and steam in under a destroyer escort, preparing for two landings:

Area 1 Map (http://www.aaronpeter.com/image/oman_map.gif)

The first, approaching from the Dawhat Şawqirah, consists of three ships--one containing armor and the others carrying motorized infantry--that will land over sixteen hundred tanks and a hundred thousand infantry in the plain between Shalim and Ad Duqm.

Area 2 Map (http://www.aaronpeter.com/image/yemen_map.gif)

The second is more difficult, as the southwestern portion of Zackaroth is far more mountainous. This force has the far less enjoyable task of taking Aden from the sea, but this much is considered vital in order to ensure mobility throughout the mountainous region. Offshore stand another two ships of motorized infantry, but they wait for air cover to be cleared, because there are just short of three thousand paratroopers en route from Cvechiokal aboard one hundred cargo planes to spearhead that landing.

The fighters move in, apparently unopposed, and begin perfoming high-altitude air suppression patrol over Zackarothi airfields and low-altitude combat air patrol over the two landing points. Possibly one of the most curious things is that, as is usual with the rayverr, there seems to be absolutely no voice radio communication between aircraft.() Patrol established. Taking a look... The pilot, a shrunken variation on a Warrior, puts his plane into a medium left bank and peers over his port wing, bulbous eyes scanning the ground below. Generally empty. A few armed parties here and there; no evidence of organized resistance.

Southwest Front

Aden harbor from the sea (http://www.chinfo.navy.mil/navpalib/news/news_stories/cole-aden.jpg)
Field-Officer Quiet-Talker peers through the binoculars mounted on their removable stand on the top of ADC-107's conning tower, looking over portions of the port city while his ship shifts slowly beneath him in the waves, engines idle. (Quiet-Talker) Standing by.
The first stage of the southwest front begins with wave after wave of cargo aircraft, each wave several kilometers behind the last so their paratroopers need not worry about the powerful vortices caused the huge cargo jets ahead of them. Dropping from high altitude, the warriors follow standard High-Altitude, Low-Opening procedure to come down in the mountains that jut up through the middle of the city. There is no fear. Merely determination and anticipation, adrenaline and seratonin in perfect harmony as the first Private-Enlisted stands beside the drop door, watching the ground pass four kilometers before. His sergeant drops his arm, and the Warrior leaps out into the blast, followed by the one behind him, and the next.

Watching the cargo planes banking away from their runs, Quiet-Talker silently gives the order to proceed, quarter-ahead. They will be in position to exploit the docks once the airborne soldiers take them. The paratroopers immediately work to regain coherency once they touch down, then work their way down into the city in squads of fifteen, towards the harbor. Their rules of engagement are simple; anyone who doesn't drop their weapons is to be dropped themselves. Unarmed civilians are to be ignored until the airborne get armor support from the infantry's armored personnel carriers, which will then spread out to secure and pacify the city.

At least, that is the plan.

Northeast Front

Seemingly unopposed, the ADCs get as close as they can to the coast without running aground, then open their doors to deploy amphibious APCs and tanks to travel the last kilometer. The primary objective of this front, at the moment, is to assemble forces and a beachhead first before receiving reinforcements and breaking up into two thrusts along the coast, north and south. Each town would be pacified in turn before moving on to the next...

At least, that is the theory.

The men looked up as they saw the planes fly over head. The forgien aid had come. It was time to get some atteion. "Set up the flares and fire them." Michael said as he watched threw binonoclaurs. The men did as they were told and set up the flares and fired them into the sky hoping to gain some sort of response.

Unfortunelty they also caught the attieon of a group of Santic occluts looking for some fresh meat. They slowly crept torwards them. There pistols in hand....
Rayverr
31-03-2005, 04:21
The flares change the plan slightly. Air cover and those units landing in the area shift to investigate.(Pilot) Tracking flares... switching cameras to IR. The fighter goes into another gentle bank, the small retractable turret of the ground sensor panning its charge-coupled displays along the hill line. () Signatures of several small groups down there. One group seems to be advancing slowly, zooming in... On his helmet-mounted display, what were once splotches of color explode into humanoid figures of warmth on the comparatively cold ground--a cloudy day. Definitely low-crawling. Saw the flares too.

Elsewhere, Big-Gripper sits silent, listening to the chatter in his head. (Big-Gripper) Airborne units in area, move to intercept immediately. Our police action begins now.

A squad of fifteen warriors bark their acknowledgement and begin jogging, making their way to where they saw the flares come out, blackened rifles at the ready as they stomp in their odd waltzing cadence. Coming over the hill line, they sense the heat of the people standing in a group, and see with their eyes that they are otherwise unarmed. As they near, they start sensing more heat signatures in the scrubby brush that tries to cling to the rock face.

Black rifle butts go to shoulders, weapons go to high-ready as the lead Warrior, skin currently a mottled brownish to blend in better with the surrounding terrain, barks. "Everybody, STAND DOWN. We are from the vesh. Noncompliance will NOT be tolerated!"
Zackaroth
31-03-2005, 04:54
Michael nooded to the others. They put there hands over there heads and got on the ground as did Michael. The cultist took advantage and shoot two members from behind the rock dead. Unluckly there guns jammed. Stpuidly not ducking for cover they were left out in the open.

A Transmission from the Buleas High Command:

We are at this moment engaged in a civil war with North Buleas, and cannot aid you at this time.
Rayverr
31-03-2005, 19:06
The Rayverr airborne immediately return fire towards the cultists along the rock, the crackling of their rifles looking a bit like twisted tracer fire and chewing away at the softer rocks like high-caliber rifles could be expected to, despite the lack of bullets. They immediately press forward to get between the cultists and those actually following directions, three staying behind to act guard while the other twelve move out to engage any other heat signatures they can see.

(Sergeant-Enlisted) They are not responding well to commands.

This filters up the chain of command, no commander willing to think about it as it would require a great change in the rules of engagement. Eventually, far away, Big-Gripper muses on it for a moment, annoyed by the distraction. (B-G) When there are civilians or noncombatants who could be harmed, do not challenge, simply fire. If it is simply us and them, challenge first. Hissing softly, he returns to overseeing the larger battle.

Initiative is not a trait inculcated into the average rayverr Warrior.

Meanwhile, the rest of the three thousand airborne continue to land over the next hour or so, breaking into the city where it springs from the foot of the mountain, carefully covering each other as they run through the streets using the urban warfare experience of Cvechiokal. Pressing towards the heavy docks, they move more in a 'lightning run' rather than an actual attempt to secure the territory, fighting resistance as it appears but not actually seeking it out.

The culttst were shot dead and fell down. Michael looked at the forgien aid. " Please forgive us for those damn cultists are stubborn bastards. My name is Michael von Strangaild. I was the leader of this country. Please we mean no harm. we are all unarmed and pose no threat." Michael says.

Southwest Front

The discovery of some attempt at authority leads to another change in plans.
The rayverr Warrior sergeant looks down at the relatively short von Strangaild with a look that could be quizzical if the being's face were anywhere near human. He stands still for a few moments, eyes flicking back and forth microscopically for a few moments before he suddenly rolls his shoulders as if replying to something. "Good," he replies in his aspirated, sibilant accent, "my Warriors and I have just been ordered to remain here to protect you until we are relieved by our forces coming from the sea. As long as you stay down we should have no trouble keeping you safe."

The other paratroopers fan out, forming a defensive perimeter around the nationalist group to protect from any more attacks. "We can either stay here, or go to whatever shelter you have."
Meanwhile, the other paratroopers filtering to the docks have not yet met any resistance of note other than some random shooting here and there. The Rayverr know what they are doing; the warring factions are somewhat less directed. Soon Warriors are clearing out the docks and securing the warehouses nearby, then using commandeered forklifts and brute muscle to push the ubiquitous cargo palletes that cover any free space on docks out of the way. They work in surprising silence, running around like grey-camouflaged ants, pausing only to break for water and food in shifts.

As they work, the first ADC moves to the dock, carefully sideslipping in until its huge rectangular doors jut up against the dock. The doors open up with a slight pop of chamber pressures adjusting, then lower to form ramps up onto the port facilities. After a short pause, green-camouflaged tanks roll up and out onto the docks, the first few dozen moving into defensive positions followed by armored personnel carriers. As more and more armored vehicles pile up on the dock, those already out start rolling back out into the streets, their soldiers disembarking and following along. This time the Rayverr are here 'for real'--actually looking for trouble.

Northeast Front

The landings at Dawhat Şawqirah go much faster than the landings in Aden; practically no one lives there, so there is no threat. With the APCs and tanks landed easily on the coast (except for a few whose amphibious systems failed and now have to be fished out by emergency boats deployed by the ADCs), they coalesce into a mechanized combined-arms corps and moves north to HamyĆ”, a strategic crossroads town in central northern Zackaroth, according to the maps (http://www.chez.com/hyllas/oman/Oman_Map.jpg).

" I have info for you. You see the deeper you go into Zackaroth the closer you get to the three Tringal cities. They are Hudra, Toss, And naga. The closer you get the more booby traps will be laid down. Naga and Toos are dangerous but hYdra should be taken easily. Naga is going to be the hardest since its more Ubranized and the streets are pretty smal so large vhechils are going to have as hard time. The Mountains Outside Aden

The sergeant rolls his shoulders, looking out over the city spread out below until it ends suddenly in the sea. "Thank you. We are beginning to secure the city below now; if you could join us, we will take you to a safe base of operations."

Aden

The forces of the vesh move methodically through the city, breaking up any fighting it encounters and carefully eliminating armed resistance. The Rayverr aren't bulletproof, but their practice in urban combined-arms tactics against better-organized enemies helps them in carefully clearing Aden.

They certainly take their time; several days, in fact, for the first sweep, just to make sure the job is done right.

Northeastern Front

Driving past the hills of the coast, the Rayverr expeditionary force breaks into the broad, flat expanse of the Jiddat al Harāsīs... and, almost as one, the forward elements roll to a stop. APC hatches open and dark-blue Warriors look out from under their steel helmets, golden eyes blinking as they try to recognize that quailing feeling in the pit of their stomachs.

() It is like the Land of Awakening back home.

Several Warriors shudder at the thought. () This place is not hospitable. Even our honored Mater fears the Land of Awakening.

Across the column, a quick, surprising snap of pain behind the eyes. (Big-Gripper) It is merely a patch of sand between you and your objective. Do not let it fail your Commandant; do not fail honored Mater. You are prepared, you are trained. Take the challenge.

Quietly rueful, drivers put their machines back into gear and quickly return to redlining engines, wanting to get out of this dead land as soon as their vehicles can take them.

It was luckly for them Zackaroth was in its rainy season. Unfouturanly it only rained at night and the days were hot. They had much else to fear. Northwestern Front

The advance warning helps... but in their haste to get out of the desert, the front line performs unscheduled mineclearing, much to its detriment. After a few dozen armored personnel carriers and tanks are knocked out of commission, either their armor shorn off by makeshift bombs of artillery shells or simply stuck after diving nose-first into a sinkhole, they advance more carefully, reserves moving to the front to consolidate it once again while the units left behind are taken care of by the rear guard.

The easiest way to avoid most of the boobytraps is to just start going through the desert, avoiding the roads. While there are still things to avoid, slow going and sweeper teams catch most of them. They continue to advance, albeit more slowly now.

City of Toss:

The city is abuzz with Soilder dressed raggdey old Nazi clothes. They have spotted the forgien forces coming and were setting there defenses. The wall around toss was crumbling so the did there best to patch it up. They dug more wsink holes aroundthe city and placed more mines. snipers got in buildings near the exit of the city and thr men with the Rpgs hide on rooftops. Civilians that had not been killed were forced into there homes. The main force made roadblocks and purposely dugup the streets with construction tools to make it harder for tanks and such to get threw. They took there postions and waitied.

Aden

People were scared. they had no idea who had cleared the city of the rebels They were afraid that they would be masscared by this outside army...

Hydra

Aden was near Hydra so the Allmighty hand of Allah rebels despertaly tried make a good defence. There only real defence was the wall around Hyrda armed with computerized Turrets and some of them didnt even work. It would be up to the sucide bombers to do there jobs and the marksmen. People in bomb-rigged cars hide in dark alley ways ready to smash into the forgiens armies men.

The city of Naga.

The Cultists perpared there defenses. Unlike hydra or Toss Naga had an increidble wall lined also lined with turrets. Most of them were ready for battle. They dug wholes outside the city and filled them with tar hoping that it didnt dry and the Armies tanks and such would be disabled. They also used real mines instead of shells. They also had an unexpected surpise up there sleeve. Naga had an airfield that was used to spray pestcides on crops. Recently though the crop planes had been turn into bio weapons. Instead of spraying pestcides it sprayed deadly nerve gas. There plan was to wipe out the forgien army after they fought with the Nazi's at Toss.
Rayverr
06-04-2005, 02:25
At this rate, the fighter cover that had been in place since the beginning provides some amount of reconnaissance as to the defenders' preparations.
Big-Gripper studies the strategic map in front of him, growling softly. Toss, Hydra, and Naga are concerns... but unlikely to join forces. I can concentrate my ground forces on each one in turn. Now, which one to start? He looks over the camera footage from his Cvechiokali fighters flying combat air patrol, which mostly means 'reconnaissance' right now. Toss and Hydra are preparing their city streets for combat. Most of Naga's defenses are external... it is the strongest bulwark and the greatest threat of a counterattack.

Making up his mind, he silently directs the Company-Officers in command of the various units in the area.
The tanks make a broad circle away from the other two cities, moving in towards Naga and barely brushing artillery range--much less moving in towards the tar pits--in order to draw fire, the armored personnel carriers staying well behind. Meanwhile, as Cultist artillery shows itself, the pervasive air cover immediately responds with precision-guided bombs and missiles, targeting the turrets as well. The infantry remain buttoned up inside their more-comfortable-than-outside vehicles, not yet needing to disembark.
() Flying mission against Turret Seven, target of opportunity spotted, one Pilot reports as he slips his dagger-like aircraft into a bank. Infantry on the rooftops. Request orders.

() Infantry moves, turrets do not. Engage.

() Engaging. He turns his aircraft just a little more to the right, pulls back on the throttle, then lets out two short bursts from his main gun that make the rooftop erupt in clouds of smoke and dust. Pushing the throttle back forward, he twists the plane into a tight turn to disengage before regaining altitude and moving back into profile for a medium-altitude precision bombing run.

Aden

The city cleared, the armored columns move on while the paratroopers make themselves at home at the nearby airport. Another ADC docks with another load of supplies and reserve Warriors; the latter immediately take up police roles inside the city, distributing food and medicine and organizing a quick count of the populace. If anything, they are uncannily polite and well-behaved...

Naga: The cultist panicake. Ground forces they could take but not aircraft. They had no defenses. but they still had a chance to hurt the ground forces. They sent off 5 crop planes. When they neared the grounf forces they let loose there deadly nerve gas upon them. Then they turned aroud and attempted a sucide attack at them.

This catches the Rayverr by surprise.
(Private-Pilot) Aircraft taking off. They look civilian.

(Field-Pilot) Ignore them. Continue attacking priority targets.
The Pilots ignore the cropdusting biplanes and converted utility aircraft, even as the cultist air force bank their aircraft towards the Rayverr forces. On the ground, tank commanders watch the planes through their episcopes, main guns traversing to track but remaining buttoned up to protect from artillery fire incoming from Naga's walls.

Then sirens and klaxons blare in the cabins of the armored vehicles, chemical agent alarms indicating the presence of dangerous chemicals outside. On the one hand, this is certainly a problem, as this limits options for dropping troops. On the other hand, the Rayverr vehicles are CBR capable, airtight and running on filters and overpressure to protect themselves from chemical and biological weapons... so the effect is minimal.(Sergeant-Tanker) Under attack, gas!

The turrets on the vehicles begin sweeping wildly, scanning. From a nearby APC, another sergeant replies. (Sergeant-Infantry) From where?

(Sergeant-Tanker) Aircraft. Must be.
The armored personnel carriers swing their infantry support weapons over and start firing at the cropdusters, essentially machine-gun fire against aircraft. They combine their fire, hoping that the combined fields-of-fire of dozens of vehicles can take down the aircraft as they barrel in on their kamikaze runs. The Warriors manning their weapons snarl and hiss, but otherwise remain fearless, high on adrenaline and completely ignorant of the desolate wastelands surrounding them.

Meanwhile, once the fighters neutralize the turrets, bombers called in from Cvechiokal begin high-explosive bombing runs against the walls, trying to create multiple breaches for the ground forces to exploit as well as several feints, forcing the cultists to spread their forces.

2 crop dusters exploded in flames but still hurtled towards them The other 3 were good and tried to weave out of the way but were also caught by the combined fighter. They exploded into flames but sprialed toward the ground forces.

Then the heavy clouds moved in and drops of rain fell. Thunder rumbled in the distance. The cultist smiled. It was time to perpare. They gathered around holding there weapons. They would die but not without taking thos bastards with them. They ran out of the city torwards the forgien forces firing there Aks and Mp-9s. Some even had RPGS and were firing them at the armored cars. Another surpise in the fight that about 10 diffrent kind of trucks headed towards them. Garbage trucks, pickup trucks. any kinds of trucks headed torwards them. they fired from the window. There was big truck that was filled to the tip with explioves. Other trucks gathered around it to protect it. They screamed in werid languages. just a large reckless charge.

The rainstorm reduces the effectiveness of the air cover... but doesn't eliminate it. Fighters dip down below the clouds in ones and twos, strafing carefully at the cultists' charges before slipping back up above the storm. Meanwhile, the bombers take up high-altitude observation, seeing through the storm with cloud-peircing IR cameras and acting as spotters.

The armored ground forces quickly recouperate from having two more vehicles knocked out by crashing light aircraft, tanks taking the lead and APCs spaced between them. Using spotting information from the orbiting bombers they begin firing off the artillery missiles they have in rear racks, bombarding the cultists as they come in. Inside the APCs, the Rayverr Warriors don floppy CBR gear and dash out as fast as they can, plopping down in the moistened mud to set up a firing line to support the tanks from infantry melee, their primary targets being troopers carrying bulky rocket-propelled-grenade launchers.

Around fifteen thousand Warriors, one thousand APCs, and a thousand tanks make up the battle line, tanks further back to support with their main guns and artillery missiles, infantry hunkered down in front to carefully mow down the incoherent mobs, and APCs supporting with their rapid-fire guns a little behind the infantry.

The grenades scorch the armor of a few APCs and fell some of the Warriors; these are immediately left behind to be taken care of by rearguard forces while the front-line Warriors advance, carefully chasing the few surviving cultists into the city, using their paths to avoid boobytraps. APCs move alongside for fire support, with tanks bringing up the rear; the front breaks up into three major spearheads, going through breaches in the walls created by the air forces.
Advancing under the panning guns of two armored personnel carriers, Private-Enlisteds Sharp-Eye and Quick-Cutter slam themselves up on either side of the breached wall, scanning the exposed buildings and streets with their rifles. Silently reporting the area clear, more privates move in fire teams of two to exploit the breach, creating a foothold perimeter on the other side. In the middle casually walks Sergeant-Enlisted One-Eye, in charge of this particular squad of fifteen.

Luckily, this particular breach seems rather empty, other than sporadic, poorly aimed sniper fire from some broken-out windows, bullets kicking up spurts of dirt and concrete dust, quickly beaten back down by the rain. One-Eye looks up, nonchalantly returns fire with a few one-handed bursts to keep the cultists' heads down, then directs his squad to take cover under the awning of the snipers' building, pointing with one yellowed claw.

Looking over his shoulder, he watches the first two APCs, bracketing another squad of sixteen, begin to negotiate the rubble of the wall, their treads making short work of traveling over the smaller chunks and gravel but still requiring going around boulders created by less-than-total bombardment. Hissing softly to himself, One-Eye suddenly hisses much more loudly with a snarl as he jolts, a burst of thick brown ichor blasting out from his left bicep. Instinct takes over as he leaps for cover behind a boulder, snarling to himself.

Getting cocky. That massed charge was too easy. Looking down at his arm, he watches his blood quickly congeal, clotting in ways deftly stolen from other species. Apparently the snipers are aiming now. Pulling a smoke grenade from his armor, he pitches it backwards over his head, waits three seconds for the hiss, then runs behind it as he walks quickly to rejoin his squad. Rifle shouldered, he relies on his Jacobsen's organ to see into the infrared, sensing the heat of the snipers and shooting back at them with a few aimed shots.

Sorry for the delay. I have been sick.

The remaining cultists gave up. They dropped there weapons and raised a white flag. They were beaten. Soon the Almighty hand of allah sent a message say that they too surrender. Only the nazi party was not heard from. It seemed as if they just disappeared. In toss only there weapons were gone. There cars and work stations were left up. super markets though had almost no food left at all.

In the southwest, battalions begin moving out along the major roads to spread the authority of the vesh along the smaller coastal towns and larger inland cities. They move quickly, but in a measured fashion, not wanting to overextend their supply lines.

Over the next few days, the northeastern army group enters Hudra and Naga, restoring order. Building up field hospitals and taking care of the wounded--on both sides--distracts them from the deserts that surround them. More forces come in from the coast to relieve them and suppliment the peacekeeping forces as the vesh takes over police duties in the two cities.

Finally, they advance very carefully into Toss, unsure of what they may find.

Nothing in Toss but people bewielder and trying to restore there lives. Toss was not as bad as the other cities besides the Nazi propaganda signs. Markets were opening and people waited for the forgien forces to come over.

This eases the minds of the Warriors tasked with taking Toss; they still move slowly, but this time careful to not look more threatening than they absolutely have to. They take up administrative and policing roles, making sure everyone is at least marginally healthy and fed, and try to find aid for the wounded or sick. Beyond that, they simply act as the everpresent local police force, patiently waiting for the systemic violence to die down.

The battle above was ending for now....

But below the surface of zackaroth lay many catacombs of old tunnels. There the person who freed Zackaroth the last time planned on how to free it again. He wouldn't do it by force he would do it though by diplomancy but was ready to use force if required. They would gain zackaroth back.

Topside, the Rayverr set up camp, continuing to essentially drive through cities and establish order with their uncanny efficiency in that regard. Aid pours in from the greater vesh in the form of food and medicine, and those Warriors in administrative positions work to put Zackaroth on a self-sufficient stance, yellow-scaled Technicians ordered into adapting existing aqueduct designs to help irrigate the desert.

The desert. Gritty sand gets into half-exposed yellow eyes, lacking nictating membranes; dust flows into exposed nostrils and down throats, choking and interfering with all senses short of touch. Unused to a biome to which they are not acclimated, the rayverr adapt technologically, taking scarves and bulbous goggles with them; but scarves get musty and goggles get dusty, and their care is a constant annoyance that merely adds to the desert.

The desert. Ground albedo leading to one cooking in one's own scales, normally efficient blood-filled heat exchangers on their shaded undersides burning like the rest of them, leading to torpor; their sluggishness in mind and body the result of naturally not wanting to overheat, to cause proteins to denature, to avoid heat shock and death. The rayverr were a subtropical species at first; it is true that the Ancient One had to risk the desert for them to truly become rayverr, those that think, but survival then was by mere chance, the desert had no resources worth desiring that... it is as hostile in the mind as walking on the sun, so alien to them is the desert.

The desert--a vast sea of sand and rock, all the same five shades of light tan, stretching out to a flat horizon. Those Warriors on desert patrols sigh quietly, the flat blandness of the land leaching into their minds, stealing away their will, their morale; melancholy sets in, feelings and sensations so powerful exactly because they were so well avoided in the past. In response, directives from afar make dopamine levels swell; contentment is reached again but more and more needs to be pumped in and reaction times fade and fade faster. Accuracy levels on makeshift firing ranges drop, exercises go more and more poorly outside the public eye, all as the strange land slowly grinds down the invaders.

With peace and order reachieved, Commandant Big-Gripper gladly pulls almost all of his forces out of Zackaroth, leaving only a small rotating contingent of the Fourteenth Army to act as a police force in the cities and villages, administrative control returned to the human populace subtly controlled by other means. The people of Zackaroth are part of the vesh now, or at least well on their way to being fully incorporated; it's simply such a pity how horribly located they are.

Months later...

Underground tunnels....

Below troops wait for the order to go above ground. The troops were made up of snipers and machine gunners. Unlike the cultists or the other rebels these men were trained for combat. Breed to fight against all odds. There first two targets would be Hydra and Toss. A man dressed in a long cape. They saluted him. " Ok men. it is time to regain Zackaroth. To once again live by our laws and not be apart of any empire!!. "

The men cheered and started to pour out of the tunnels. They opened passage ways hidden in the sand. The two attack forces split up on heading for Toos and the other for hydra.

The insurgent forces find it easy to sneak back into the cities, the Rayverr combat patrols replaced with the occasional two Warriors walking a constabulary beat. They arrange themselves in strategic positions, working off of observations from spies who have registered every trail, every path of the blue-plates' nonchalant patrols. Machinegunners set themselves up in alleyways looking out towards police stations and administrative buildings; snipers put themselves on rooftops that give them commanding views of major, well-lit streets, in Toss and Hydra.

At zero-minute the insurgents strike, immediately opening fire into unsuspecting buildings and sniping individual Warriors on their beats. Those few Warriors that survive the initial barrage immediately try to return fire, giving away their positions to those manning heavy machine guns or carrying heavy sniper rifles and simply making themselves better targets. Attacked too quickly for even reflexive chemical boosts to have any effect, the surviving Rayverr break and try to escape, quickly being channeled into kill-zones covered by lighter machine guns where they are torn down.
(Big-Gripper) Bad news.

(Mater) I am watching it now. How, Commandant?

Far away from his empress, the blue-plated Warrior sets his jaw firmly--there is displeasure, and where there is displeasure there is punishment. () A well-planned insurgency allowed by insufficient after-action cleaning by our forces, honored Mater. I do not know where they came from.

() They were in hiding, of course... perhaps in the desert?

She is being unusually patient, Big-Gripper thinks. () Doubtful. Pilots have been scouting the hills and plains in infrared and finding nothing. They simply rose up out of the ground or wafted down from the sky, as far as I know. A quick, sharp shock of pain; he'd deserved that. Returning to his feet, he wheezes softly to catch his breath. () All I know is that the insurgents hold Toss and Hydra militarily.

Far, far away, the Ancient One sighs. () My hold on their minds is not as strong as I would like. Pulling out our forces so soon slowed the distribution of our Gift, and the heat stifles it. It thrives in the body, but the air scalds it.

() Then it is possible those on their way to being of our vesh could be threatened... we must protect them?

A question, an uncertainty. Mater ponders it for a moment, feeling the answer more than thinking it. () If they are threatened, launch an expedition to rescue them... no others. If these insurgents 'rise up from the ground' elsewhere, be ready to evacuate our family.

Big-Gripper rolls his shoulders to himself. () I will, honored Mater.

The troops cheer in victory. Two town had been taken now for the captiel. Of course it would be harder for them to take it but still they were facing police men. Euipment handlers started setting up machine guns all around the city. to pervent an attacking force coming from the sea or from Upper zackaroth.

Now some stayed behind to help guard the towns. Now it was time to to rely on the rebels withen the city. For months a smal group of rebels were made in the city to attack as well placed decoys. ...and a rather odd culling begins. With the decidedly undermanned rayverr Warriors providing a sort of guard while a skeleton crew continues policing the area. There seems no rhyme nor reason in the people--perhaps somewhere between five to fifteen percent of the city--evacuating, except that they are all going quite willingly. The atmosphere among them is solemn, but not panicked; a quiet, orderly procession.

Many vehicles are commandeered for the trip across the desert to the coast while arrangements are made for auxiliary dry cargo ships to ferry them to Cvechiokal, where they could perhaps live happy.

Here is where the Rayverr actually begin to resist effectively, Warriors fiercely protecting their extended family as they make their mistake. Throwing grenades to disperse the charging enemies while others fire into the clouds of smoke, taking advantage of any disorientation, the Rayverr make a fighting fall-back movement towards the outskirts of Naga, securing the main road and seeing truckloads off on their exodus to the sea.

Upon realizing the presence of beach patrols and blockades, air support from the airport at Aden and naval support from the Rayverr naval forces supporting the evacuation cargo ships begin to beat against those lines while the escaping civilians continue on towards the coast. This takes time though, and in that time the insurgents cut off the primary route out of the city, although only after a portion of the convoy has already escaped onto the desert route. Pinned down, the Warriors on the ground wait for air support before making a last-ditch drive through the barricades in an attempt to protect their now-extended family.

If it took the aircraft now circling in the sky about an hour to move from Aden to Naga, then it would take the cars about five hours as the crow flies, perhaps six or seven once taking into account the steep mountains inbetween. Somewhere around hour three, a Pilot returning from Naga to rearm looks down through his canopy to see a trail of dust left by a huge column of cars. Dipping his airplane lower to investigate more closely...
() Getting a closer look. The Pilot blinks slowly as he peers out; the tinted glass aiding in bringing out contrast. Other than all going in the same direction and at the same speed, the cars don't move in any form of order...

Short bursts of light from the backs of the cars; squinting, the Pilot makes out muzzle flashes as the people in the cars shoot at something. A stacatto ping of quickly deflecting metal and an orange alert light on his console lets him know what that something is. He pulls up and back in a SAM break, gritting his teeth under the acceleration. () Under fire from convoy. Machine guns; anti-air unknown. Consider a threat.
A bomber flight just then taking off from Aden to support the escape from Naga receives new orders and diverts--just exchange a nearby quickly-moving target for a faraway slow one.

Meanwhile, those who will escaped the three core cities of Zackaroth already have; with as many of the vesh as they can manage cleared, the Warriors fall back at best speed, not even bothering to return fire unless the defenders give chase. It is only another hour to the sea and the waiting cargo ship; after that, the pullout should be complete.

The beachhead, previously secured due to previously sighted patrols by forces from along the coast of Zackaroth, continues to quietly patrol, awaiting the arrival of the convoy. The blue-painted auxillary dry cargo ship has already carefully sideslipped as close as it can to the beach; temporary pontoon bridges lead from its side doors to the rocky beach. Surrounding it, back a bit, are two Rayverr cruisers settling in the water, broadsides to the beach; on the land side of the pontoon bridge, a small group of about five tanks and fifteen APCs watch over the broad expanse of flat gravel between them and where the mountains rise up from the sea, supporting the patrolling infantry platoons.

Meanwhile, the bombers split up: the majority simply drop guided bombs from medium altitude (within SAM but outside RPG range) on the unprotected cars below while a small detachment jets ahead of the cars taking the mountain route and bombs the passes exiting from the mountains to Aden into rubble, buying time for an airlift extraction of Rayverr assets from Aden.

Left wondering exactly how the insurgents managed to sneak up along the beaches, the APCs bear the brunt of the rocket attack, most of them being knocked out, but the grenades have absolutely no effect on the tanks, which return fire with their anti-personnel guns in side-sponson and rounds set to airburst at low altitude to act as line-of-sight antipersonnel artillery. The Warrior infantry, somehow ignored in the first attack, immediately shift to provide melee protection to the tanks. Pickets well out of grenade range turn around to flank the attacking insurgents even as the convoy enters into view.

The convoy consists only of a few hundred refugees supported by several dozen Warriors, the rest having been cut off in the three cities far back. The demographic shift shouldn't even be overly noticable from a nation still recovering from self-genocidal factional warfare.

Some of the RPGs find chinks in the tanks' armor, their piercing heads entering into cabins as sprays of molten hot metal, burning away the unlucky Technicians manning side sponson; one tank's turret flips off with a massive explosion as the spalling rounds touch on a energy capacitor that was both delicate and highly energetic before its energy was released unexpectedly. Two more tanks are damaged, smoking slightly from small holes with one spitting tracks; the last two are left unharmed by the attack, the missiles' warheads splattering pyrotechnically off of their thick curved frontal armor.

Now, the limited range of an rocket-propelled grenade gives the people holding them few options. Either they are nearby on the flat and essentially clear plain of the beach, easy targets for the entrenched Rayverr infantry, or they are far away, and thus probable targets for coastal bombardment from the cruisers, their positions easily given away by the smoke trails left by their weapons, and the Rayverr respond appropriately, fighting hard and, in their adrenaline rush, largely ignoring wounds that don't kill them outright.

The convoy leaves the sandy hills, spraying gravel flying from the wheels of cargo trucks as they speed towards the ramps.

(Big-Gripper) What now, honored Mater?

The ancient Queen sighs. (Mater) This defeat weighs on me, Commandant. Your inability to protect our family, our vesh, has been noted. Do not allow it to happen again.

() Understood, honored Ancient One. A momentary pause. May I ask a question?

() Why I allow you a second chance? Mater experiments with a wry grin that exposes her sharp teeth, even if there is no one there to see it.

() Indeed.

() It was a failure of circumstance and lack of vision, not ineptitude. I still need commanders that are not inept. Lose your skill, and you will lose your life.

Inside Zackaroth, the few who remain loyal to the vesh go silent, quietly resolved to blend back into the culture, partially from not wanting to leave and partially from an unusual sloth that stems from elsewhere. The vesh had lost this day... but that is the price of moving too quickly.
