Some ocean not too far from the archipel of Home of the Brave, aboard the HMS-Svenssen, flague ship of the commonwealth of De Vlaamse Leeuw
"Commander Svenssen," one of the marines yelled, "Land in sight!"
"Finally", the commander thought. For many days they had been searching for land. The Commonwealth was in need for new colonies, to colonize. The homeland was getting a bit crowded due to the population exploding over the last couple of years. The economy was doing great, and because of that there was money to start these searches for unoccupied land.
Two other ships were sailing alongside the HMS-Svenssen, a bit like giant bodyguards.
"Prepare the men for landing, son", the commander spoke, and he went to the communicationsroom to talk to the captains of the 2 other ships.

OOC: anyone wanna contestate the claim of the commonwealth on this new territory?

TKS Explorer, Explorer Class Colonial Ship (Modified Wasp)

Captain Sir James Thomas sat in his plush leather seat on board his flagship, the namesake of its class. From his position on the bridge he could also see the rest of his force. To the left the Guided Missile Cruiser Tolkien and to the right the Frigate John. Directly infront of the Explorer was the Type 42 Destroyer Surrey, one of the newest ships in the fleet.

Thomas had been given command of this "expedition" because he had been classmates with the King's brother, Prince John, but he also had a distinguished career behind him.

His mission was to seize land, not currently held by any major power, that could be used as either a population base, provide valuable raw materials, or could serve as a military outpost for the Roman people. To fulfil that mission he had his four surface ships plus a Regiment of Roman Marines. Several geologists were also onboard so assess the suitability of any Island that they came across.

If it was needed the King was prepared to send a larger force to capture land if it was evaluated as being valuable to the Kingdom.

OOC: Sorry it took a while.

The New Lands
Some marines were already setting foot on the newly discovered beach, when the message came that a little fleet was sailing towards them. This message had already been received by the High Command in the capital.
"We don't know what these guys are doing here," Admiral Janssens said to Commander Svenssen, "So don't open fire but be on your guard. If you are under fire, answer the firing and inform us. We will send a few nuclear submarines and the HMS-Thunderbird (with 20 f18's and 20 f22's + the P3 orion anti-sub plane and the AWACS-plane)."

"Sir, radar reports the presence of several unidentified ships near this Island we are approaching. We have the feed crosslinked from Surrey."

"Where?"

"This screen here Sir."

Captain Thomas rose and headed into the CIC following the messenger who pointed to the large central panel showing the radar picture.

"As you can see, the large mountain on the Island obscured them from our radar until we passed it looking for a suitable anchorage. We have so far had no communication from them."

"Very well. Bring all ships to Battle Stations and put our air search radars into a search mode. No targetting or tracking unless they make a hostile move. Oh and get Lt Colonel Jones up here, we will need to get his boys landing pretty soon if these fella's are planning on having our Island. He will probably want his helicopters to start spinning up so give the deck crew permission to load them out with weapons."

"Of course Sir."

The Ensign retreated to carry out the orders and less than a minute later the gruff voice of Lt Colonel Roy Jones was heard outside the CIC. He strode in a minute later, black beret still on his head, and pistold holster firmly attached to his belt. He saluted and awaited his superior to speak first.

"Roy as you can see we have several ships on the other side of this Island they are probably trying to claim it for themselves. We must not let that happen. We need you to get ashore and set up to prevent them from doing the same. We count only four ships so their numbers should be similar to ours. Can you get an advance party out their by helicopter quickly?"

"Sir. I can have a company landed within half an hour. I will need all of the helicopters on this ship for that though."

"Ok you have my permission for that. I need to shoot a report off to Crewe, anything you will need?"

"What ever they are willing to give me Sir."

"Rightho. Well you better be getting off then. Your gunships are being loaded, but do not fire unless provoked. Good luck Colonel."

"Sir."

The big man saluted again and turned out of the room, talking to his subordinates even as he did so.

A minute and several staircases later he emerged onto the flight deck to see a pair of Lynx Mk.7 Gunships take off and head towards the main Island, now visible from the ship. He looked left to see several Merlin helicopters starting up, and a ships elevator bringing part of 1st Company up to the deck. The men were mostly armed with G3 assualt rifles, as well as M249 SAW's for support. Several of the men also had AT-4 Rocket Launchers with their kit which they were now moving towards the helicopters.

The new territories, aboard the HMS-Svenssen
"Oh my god, sir," lieutenant Peeters said, "The other fleet is sending out helicopters."
"Looks like they want our island," commander svenssen replied, "Try contacting them!"

In the communications room, a few people were heatedly trying to get in touch with the unidentified fleet.

Antwerp Port, De Vlaamse Leeuw
A small fleet, which consisted of 3 nuclear submarines, 2 battle ships and the HMS-Thunderbird with the planes, were ready to set sail to the new territories. They left with a salut shot from the board canons...

Secret IC:
**On the south side of the New Island. Aboard the USS Shazbot**

Radar Operator: "Sir. Radar detects a group of ships to the west of the island. Preparing to deploy a F/A-117X Nighthawk for ship identification."

Admiral Yackber: "I thought we were the only ones that would find this Land that is Blessed by God?"

Radioman: "Sir. It was inevidable that someone else would run across this land. Helo Alpha 3 Five is preparing to lift off the main deck for it's run to the shoreline."

Admiral Yackber: "Alright. Tell the Marines that if anyone approaches upon the land that we are to claim. They are authorized to stop them."

Radioman: "Yes, Sir." The Radioman contacts Helo Alpha 3 Five. "Alpha 3 Five, you have go for marine insertion. T Minus 1 minute till lift off. Over"

Helo Pilot: "Rodger that Command. Starting final systems check."

Admiral Yackber paced back and forth on the bridge. He then walked over to the radioman and listened to the conversation.

Radioman: "T Minus 5 Seconds. Four. Three. Two. One. Take-off."

The Admiral then looked at the window near him just in time to see the Blackhawk Helecopter Alpha 3 Five take off. It turned it's rear rutter and then headed toward the land. From what they could tell, this side of the island had a sandy shore, which would be a help for when they decide to land the large trucks and equipment to start building the joint Navy and Army base. It would be their staging ground for operations on this section of the planet.

**On Board Helecopter Alpha 3 Five**
Most of the Marines carried SMG's while a few carried the newly created Battle Rifles and Sniper Rifles. All the marines through had the new Handguns as a secondary weapon. All the marines agreed that this new weaponry was state of the art. It was easier to carry and didn't accidentally discharge from what they found out.

OOC: What kind of size are we planning to escalate this to?

TKS Explorer

In the large communications room that sat next to the CIC and bridge of the assualt ship, a hailing frequency was picked up and a messenger was sent to inform Captain Thomas that it was the "others" as they were now known.

The Captain waited until he heard from the helicopters before going to the room to see what they wanted.

Zulu-Six, Lead Gunship

The lead pair of gunships with their TOW missiles and miniguns had done a quick sweep of the landing area hastily chosen for the lead elements of the Roman Marines to begin touching down on. Their Merlin helicopters were a minute out from the LZ carrying a full company of Marines with a reinforced mortar section.

Settler-Six, Lead Slick

In these helicopters Captain Len Anderson cocked his G36, the smaller version of his troopers G3's, and hung his legs out of the back door of the helicopter sitting next to the M60 gunner who had also cocked his weapon and was now scanning the water below as it rushed by. Directly behind their helicopter came another gunship, sideslipping to enable it to be just to the left of them, whilst the other transports were arrayed in a V shape behind the leader. Several more gunships were with the formation and broke away as it crossed the beach, now a bare twenty seconds from the LZ.

IC:

*On board Blackhawk Helecopter Alpha 3 Five*
The 25 marines were cramped into the Helo but they knew what they had to do. 100 feet from the shoreline they opened up the 2 side doors and began to hook up the ropes to the side hooks on the helecopter so they could repel down to the drop zone.

*2 minutes later*

The marines began to repel down. They were doing it 2 at a time (1 per rope) and as they landed onto the sand on the beach they drew their weapons and fanned out into 3 strike teams. Each strike team had 8 people in it while one person stayed behind on the shore. Off in the distance the one marine on the shore could see a second helecopter comming from the direction of the Aircraft carrier and a 3rd one taking off from the carrier. He then concluded that a 4th Helecopter is probably being prepped on the flight deck and will be comming ashore to drop off more troops.

Marine 25: "This is Beach Patrol calling Ship Command, Over."

Ship Command: "This is ship command. There will be a total of 100 marines on that island. The Admiral wants a 10 square foot area cleared along the beach and in the woods for an army base, and a air strip."

Marine 25: "Rodger that Command. We have begun our first sweep of the area. Send in the equipment when we fully secure the sector."

Ship Command: "Rodger that. Command Out."

Settler Six

The lead Transport flared over the designated LZ and then quickly dropped to the ground, its rear doors open and discorging Roman Marines.

Seconds behind them the other helicopters set down, their complements of Marines disembarking before the choppers returned to the assualt ships leaving the two gunships to provide aerial cover.

Two Sections were now on the Island, with the remaining three and the mortar team coming in on the next lift. Captain Anderson immeadiately began setting up his Company Command Post (CP) and ordered one of his sections to proceed immeadiately to the tree line and secure it. The other section set up security on the other three sides of the LZ and awaited the return of the helicopters.

TKS Explorer

Colonel Jones watched as the first flight of helicopters returned to the deck, setting themselves down slowly as more men ran underneath the turning rotors and strapped into the helicopters small seats.

At the opposite end of the deck a pair of Sea Stallion Helicopters had their rear ramps lowered as a pair of Armoured Land Rover Jeep's were driven into the back of them, quickly followed by the rest of the crew with their weapons evident as they strapped the vehicles in. These two would join the second wave, and deliver an advanced recce squad to the Marines already in place.
