Chimera Problems

Chimexico

ooc: this is my first RP so bare with me...

After years of scientific research. Chimexico's government had genetically altered the DNA of many chimera subjects. The intention was to make the chimeras into weapons of war by adding parts of every lifeform that could be acquired. Even humans were used. There had always been rumors of this activity, but the government denied it.

After years of failed attempts (and nearly the extinction of the chimera) there was success...

However, the Chimeras were too strong and too intelligent to be controlled and began a rebellion. Chimexico's weapons were not strong enough to kill them, but the military was able to drive them into the desert wasteland part of Chimexico.

For years, Chimexico had not heard from the Chimera's until finally an entire army of them returned...

Chimexico's military cannot defeat the chimera's alone. We need support from any willing nation...

ooc: A nation can either support Chimexico or (if you feel that we deserve this attack) can attack us as well...

Section 38:

Tech: Sir! Spysat Delta-3 picked up something bizzare in Chimexico.

Colonel: Let me guess, an army of unidentified creatures, right?

Tech: Yessir! Suggest we send a unit to assist them sir.

Colonel: Noted soldier, keep me posted.

Tech: Affirmative sir, next Spysat overflight in... 5 minutes.

Official Response:
Shenyang is willing to send the 2nd Shenyangi Airborne Division. They are some of the best equipped soldiers that we have at our disposal, and they have experience dealing with this form of threat. They are standing by for your approval of our offer.

A squadron of C-5A Galaxies flew to an airfield near the frontline. On board the Galaxies was the 2nd Airborne, the division that had been responsible for security of Section 21, now known as "the hive" home of the Shambler abominations. The C-5As landed and the units off-loaded in a typically tactical fashion. Several Humvees armed with .50 caliber MGs pulled out and began circling the landed aircraft. Then the infantry and heavy equipment began to off-load. A few moments later 2 more C-5s landed. To the untrained eye they appeared to be normal C-5s, however upon closer inspectionit was discovered that they were in fact one of Shenyang's secret weapons. The AC-5A Exorcist Gunship. Armed with more weapons than most small military bases and designed to orbit an area while under fire for as long as possible. The Exorcists were finally getting a chance to hit some live targets and they crews were eager to begin. The 2nd Airborne then began the move to the frontlines.

IC:
The third MI division moves into the defense of the next major city on the Chimeras path of advance. The defenses are composed of slit trenches and foxholes with concertina, tanglefoot, and claymore directional mines for a defense in depth against an unknown number of an unknown foe. The first armored cav. are sent forward to probe for the enemies weaknesses and to get a fix on possible numbers. They ride in M1-E1 Abrams MBTs armed with 120mm main cannon, along with 8, 25mm secondary chainguns, and a pair of 7.62 cal. gatlings replacing the Tank Commanders machinegun and the main turrets co-axial 50 cal., in all other respects they are identical to an M1-A1 Abrams. The Bradley AFVs and HMMV command vehichles will stay behind, along with the battalions mobile 155 artillery REAVER guns.

Subject: Chimera Threat

Although it is rare for Klondykia to interfere with foreign affairs, we are more than willing to provide enough support to eliminate the Chimera threat.

We must however, ensure that our opposition of using technology to make better means of destruction is clearly understood.

The people of Chimexico should not, however, suffer for the mistakes of its government, so we will support its people. We cannot afford to let this threat increase or threaten any innocent lives.

Our ruling body has elected to send our 3rd Airborne Division (Nicknamed the Wings of Gabriel) to your aid. They are among our best Air Force pilots, and by far have some of the most experience. Though they have rarely seen any actual combat, their simulation and practice runs look to be very promising. We hope to hear a good report of their efforts.
Also, we are happy to report that one of our most decorated commanders, Colonel Samuel Garret, will be accompanying and commanding our 2nd Mobile Infantry Division. They are undoubtedly one of our most promising investments, and have the most combat experience.

We hope not to lose too many of our soldiers, so take care not to underestimate these Chimeras again. Be prepared for anything.

* C-16 Pelican Heavy Transport (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=389998&page=1 ), en route to Chimexico *

In the forward passenger compartment of the massive transport that was the C-16 Pelican, the steady monotonous drone of eight engines driving the aircraft forward could be heard. It could be described in many ways - buzzing, rhythmic, regular - but to Major General Evelyn Jennings, the best word would have been "annoying".

The Major General, a relatively experienced command officer in her late fourties, was to lead the 1st Dragoons on thier deployment to Chimexico. While thier primary goal was the protection of the Chimexican population, thier mission also included the capture of a live chimeran if possible, or atleast recovery of chimeran remains. General Jennings wasn't quite sure how she felt about that, but she could see why the remains of a modified chimeran could be of use - the Colonial genetics program had taken a back seat for years as government funding went into other areas. Computer AI development, powered exoskeletons, high strength composites, aerospace technologies: research in these fields received trillions of dollars in funding while the country lagged further and further behind in the science of genetics. If a live chimeran could be recovered, or even the remains of one, then untold scores of knowledge could be aquired. It seemed like the perfect plan; expand Colonial knowledge of genetics and at the same time, protect innocents from unwarrented attack. It was a humanitarian operation that could have tangible, strategic gains for the Democratic Colonies, the best of both worlds - but in spite of all of that, General Jennings couldn't help but feel the gnawing claw of dread surrounding the nature of the mission. She tried to push it aside, as she had always managed to do, but this time, it stayed. She couldn't deny that it was there, and had been there ever since they took off. This deployment, this mission - Jennings couldn't say exactly what it was, but something told her that there would be pain and death and suffering here. Knowledge might be gained, civilians might be saved, but there would be a price to pay for it all. A terrible price, still shrouded in the midsts of the unknown.

Jennings looked up as her executive officer, Colonel Richard Post walked over to her seat to give her a relaxed salute. Jennings returned the salute, albeit somewhat oddly from her seated position.

"We should be entering Chimexican airspace within the hour, General." said Post, his slight British accent apparent in his speech. A tall, trim man in his mid thirties, he had been serving under General Jennings for several months now, and had just returned from leave when the order to deploy came in. Jennings had been somewhat amused at first to find that the man had grown a mustache while he was on leave, but that was the furthest thing on her mind right now.

"Sounds good Post, sounds good." said Jennings. She handed him her PDA, onwhich she had been reading the latest intelligence report. "According to the Chimexicans, a chimeran's killed thier President. No word on how it managed that though. I would have thought that thier President would have been heavily guarded, but apparently, this thing made it through."

Post shrugged. "Have any pictures of these creatures been made available to us?" he asked.

"Not so far." said Jennings. "A Shenyangi Airborne Division is already on the ground though, maybe they'll manage to get a few pictures, share them with the rest of us. I'd like to have a better idea of what we'll be going up against."

"Well, pictures or no pictures, they're supposed to be nasty buggers." said Post grimly.

"We'll see how nasty they are first hand soon enough." replied Jennings. "Our Combat Exoskeletons are fully operational, the Apaches are good to go and we'll be defending against an easily recognizable enemy. I think we'll be able to handle the situation."

"Ofcourse, General." agreed Post. "Ofcourse..."

"Post," asked Jennings, "I want your honest opinion on this. Do you think we'll actually be able to establish any communications with the creatures once we're on the ground?"

"The truth?" repeated Post. "My honest opinion, General Jennings, is no. We'll try to talk to them through those large speakers we're bringing, they'll ignore us, and we'll have to shoot them dead. That is my honest opinion, General - the speakers, the attempt to communicate - it won't lead to anything. We'll have to engage them in combat."

Jennings nodded. "I agree with your analysis." she said. "I don't have much hope for communication. I expect that we'll have to kill them. All of them, most likely."

Although both of the officers words were full of confidence, Colonel Post felt the same dread that was growing in Major General Jennings - whatever was awaiting them in Chimexico was unlike anything that either of them had ever expected to fight, but now there they were, aboard the lead aircraft in a flight of strategic transports, on thier way to a strange land to fight a beast born out of the worst nightmares that genetic scientists could make come to life.

Dear Sir or Madam,

As a scientifically-inclined nation, Academe is interested in acquiring a pair of live Chimera for research purposes. We have no harmful intent, either towards the creatures or towards any other nation (that is, we have no intention of using the Chimera aggressively). We simply wish to study the Chimeras' habits, their genetic makeup, and their language.

We will pay you the sum of 250,000 federal grants (approximately $80, 000 USD) and will arrange and fund transport of the Chimeras from your nation to ours. We ask that they be captured as humanely as possible and provided the necessities of life until we can remove them. We assure you that this will be done promptly.

Subject: Capturing Live Chimeras

We must strongly speak our protest to capturing these creatures. They have already been underestimated and managed to not only escape from the laboratories, but they have managed (We are curious how) to kill your President.

Therefore, capturing these alive for research, observation, or other means of war is in every aspect a bad idea. Our soldiers will take no part in capturing these monsters which you have created, and we regret to inform you that we are going to withdraw our forces before we lose our valued soldiers over what seems to be a lost cause.

Any effort to bring in one of these animals alive can only hinder a battle. We strongly urge you to reconsider attempting to bring in a single one of these creatures alive for "research purposes" or "observation", because in the end, they are likely to end up being used as another weapon of war.

Log of: Major General Evelyn Jennings (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v207/JC_Denton/NationStates/96bed604.jpg )
Type of Log: Command Log
Distibute to: Operational Log Database, 1st Dragoon Division
Timestamp: 16:44 - Day One of Deployment

This is Major General Jennings, Command Log for Day One, 1st Dragoons, so on and so forth. You can read the attached data files if you really want to know the local weather conditions and such at the time of this recording, I'm not going to bother reading them out since no one listens to these logs anyways. Well, unless I'm KIA at some point in the course of this operation, in which case they will be going over them with a fine tooth comb. Ahem. Anyways, earlier today, the 1st Colonial Dragoon Division arrived in Chimexico - although I have to admit that frankly, I'm not too impressed with what's here. The airfield where we were originally going to land was apparently overrun by the chimeras while we were airborne. From what we've heard, the Chimexican forces stationed there were cut to pieces. I'm not suprised.

From what we've seen, the Chimexicans are a poorly trained, poorly equiped, poorly motivated lot - personally, I think a squad of Army Academy Cadets could do better than some of this bunch. We ended up landing at a civilian airport instead of a military airfield, and what we saw there wasen't very encouraging. During our landing, we couldn't help but notice the sheer level of air traffic going on; all of it outbound. It was a small, perhaps medium sized airport, but the amount of civilian aircraft departing it was staggering. Unmarked cargo haulers, commercial airliners, a Goodyear blimp - it seemed like anything that could fly was being used to fly passengers out of Chimexico. I guess I don't blame the people for wanting to leave, but as my division was unloading our gear, it just seemed like the crowds of people who wanted out of this country were just a moment or two away from mass panic. There were just lines and lines of civilians, some of them with luggage, some with children, and many of them waving about wads of cash, trying to buy whatever passage that they could. Eventually, some of them tried to offer us money for transport out of there. We tried to explain that we were members of a foreign military unit, here to help, but they didn't care. They just wanted to us to fly them out of there. By this time, some of the Dragoons had suited up in thier Combat Exoskeletons - I had a to order some of them to literally push back some paticularly desperate civilians. I ended up ordering someone... let me check here... I ended up ordering Lieutenant Alex Foster to fire into the air with his M-240 machinegun. It convinced the crowd to leave, but it's not something that I'm paticularly proud of.

All this has taken a toll on the morale of the troops, but generally speaking, they're still in high enough spirits. Some of them were a bit spooked by the desperation that was readily apparent in the civilian population here, but in all honesty, I think anyone would be. The people here are scared, and there aren't enough planes to get them out of here fast enough. We've unloaded all of our equipment though - our exoskeletons are online, for the most part. One of them nearly exploded when it was powered up - the fuel cells must have been banged up during the flight over. Another's stuck with that strange "immovable arms" software bug - rebooting the system didn't fix it this time. The techies are having a look at it, and they say that they'll have that exoskeleton good to go soon, but I don't really think that they know what's wrong with the damn thing either. I saw one of them smack the thing with a wrench. When a qualified military technician smacks a million dollar piece of equipment with a wrench, then something's wrong. I suppose that's what we get for using gear that's just out of the experimental stages though. On the bright side, our Strykers and Apaches report no problems. Atleast those still work.

This is Major General Jennings, end of Command Log.

The pilot of the gunship popped a CD into the CD player integrated into the control panel. "Flight of the Valkyries" begins blasting out of speakers mounted on the gunship. On cue the gun crews open fire on the chimeras, lead rains down on the chimera army as the crew fired from the nearly bottomless pool of ammunition they had at their disposal.

Gunship: Eat that you freaks! You understand that? Sorry, can't here you, suckers!

The opening drum riffs of Led Zepplin's "Immigrant Song" wash over the embattled first battalion of Hammers Slammers "Tank Lords" and they know all is lost. An hour out from the city they had been hit by hundreds of chimeras, more like a thousand and change but who's counting? The comander was lost in the first five minutes and his XO was lost shortly afterwards. The last remaining officer was a lieutenant, everyone else was dead or incapacitated. Zepplin meant that everything had gone to hell and they could not retreat because they were surrounded by an army of hostiles. Immigrant Song meant they had just become a forlorn hope and would die to the last man against these animals. There was no help coming so the tank commanders had their last canister rounds loaded and opened fire with all of their guns, the three line companies had already killed several times their number and the canister, combined with the heavy chainguns and Co-axial gatling would kill hundreds more before they died, but it would all be in vain if they didn't manage to warn the 3rd infantry before they got hit.

Third Infantry HQ, Chimexico

The chimeras had struck an hour after the tanks had left and the commander wasn't sure how it had happened, and honestly didn't rightly care, more important now was beating back the chimeras that had gotten to the men of the division. The mines had killed hundreds, the wire and caltrops, hundreds more, but it wasn't enough to matter because they still hit the positions like a wave breaking against a cliff. The division took acceptable casualties in the first assault and dealt out more than they took, but they had been forced to consolidate two of the companies because of massive casualties in those individual units. The chimeras wouldn't be around to see their good work, The thid infantry commander firmly believed in a philosophy of do unto others before they do unto you. That was the reason the cavs mobile artillery units were currently shelling the hell out of the follow on forces. The chimeras casualties were horrendous, but they could take a million casualties to destroy the division and they knew it. Then the planes came... as the first Shrike passed overhead there was a shout of joy from the trapped infantry regiments. The speakers blasted "For Whom The Bell Tolls" by Metallica and the chimeras writhed under the hammer of their guns. The shrikes were armed with heavy 30mm chain and ICM bombs, the cluster rounds made hash of the attacking chimeras, finally forcing them to retreat, but not before they had destroyed two companies and mauled two more.

Pvt. Perez: Sir! more chimeras inbound.

Colonel Oneill: You know what to do. When they get in range trip the first line of claymores. Then work inward from there, we got plenty of ammo, and we ain't goin' down without a fight, that's for sure.

Pvt. Perez: Affirmative sir, I won't left those things through.

Colonel Oneill: Good, don't.

The Chimeras advanced slowly toward the Airborne's encampment, unaware of the lines of claymore mines waiting to shread them. Nor could they even imagine what the Airborne would do if they breached the encampment. The Shenyangi Airborne were among the most disciplined and well trained fighting units on Earth, and to go down without a fight was considered as shameful as running from battle. No soldier there would let the chimeras breach their lines, no one would let the chimera even dream of it.
The chimeras advanced reached the first line of claymores. They detonated and the two front lines was shreaded instantly, the third line was severly injured, but they soldiered on. Until they reached the second line of claymores that is. Another line of claymores and another three lines of casualties. Now they were within range of the Airborne's snipers. Hidden behind the main line of infantry openned fire, their semiauto M-95S rifles tore into the advancing force. By the time the chimeras had reached the range of the Airborne infantry they had been cut down to a force of about 100, and they were easilly dispatched in a hail of 7.62FMJ fire from the infantry.

"I want the beasts dead." Red Patriarch Nahk commanded to his air force, the Zealotry's Wing, as the planes began to sky high into the air, the clouds drifting amongst the sea.
"Deploy thermal sensors, and activate cloud patterns." Nahk chatterd subtly on the comm., as the planes fired from the foggy covers of the clouds, seeking the enemy with thermal technology, beeping constantly.
As the Chimeras began to reach towards the water's boundaries of Jenrak, and more importantly, the fortress island of Orrius, the snipers inbound laid low.
"Fire when you see the flash flares." Nahk ordered, as flank after flank of Chimeras spread towards the snipers perched amongst the zagged rocks.
"Now." He commanded, as a string of flashes ripped across the sky, and blinded the Chimeras senses, as the jets trailed behind, leaving a dusty smoke to cover their noses. Only their eyes remained sharp, and it was not enough, as the soldiers opeened fire upon the ones who did not trip into the jagged rocks.
"Hold your position." Nahk ordered as one of the blind ones slammed itself accidentally into a cargo supply, wiping out a fair deal of land, attracting the beasts.
"Fire the machine guns." Nahk ordered, bullets blazing around and mountains of lead tearing through the bloodly cloud of flesh.
The Chimeras were a powerful enemy, but Jenrak had quite a deal of knowledge on dealing with organic enemies, especially since they let created some of their own.

TRANSMISSION CHIMEXICAN MILITARY

The nation of Jenrak is sending over a distinct counter-animal to the Chimerans, a certain un-assimilatable creature known to us as the Garg-Hound, an ancient recipe for a mutated monster, but much larger.

Although you might not like the idea of another genetic reconstruction runnign abroad your nation, know that this is a natural way of balancing the imbalance of your nation.

They are arriving in silver cages soon enough, on a red transport marked 'V' with Grey paint on the hull. The crew will probably be dead, so only open the package and run to unleash them. If you do not accept them, possibly because you are afraid of another threat (which is impossible since we know how to control these) then leave them there, and they will eat each other.

Now thats a plan. Except for the possibility of you losing control of them and them subsequently going beserk. Personally I like your plan, I just felt it necessary to point out possible negative consequences. Now back to killin stuff.

Detatched forces, Chimexico

The last five tanks were almost out of ammo and time, the enemy had recently been reinforced and shown to have a new weapon as well, a mist of acid that ate right through their armor. The commanders of the last tanks were maintaining their distance from their foes, as the acid mist had been shown to have a very limited range of approximately 10 yards. As the last of their ammo was about to be expended in their final charge the music coming over their speakers suddenly changed from Zepplin's "No Quarter" to Metallica's "Don't Tread On Me", Metallica meant air support, air support might just mean survival over the last five miles from base. The TCs fired their last canister rounds and loaded sabot for the retreat, they had run out of chaingun and gatling ammo thirty minutes ago and were low on everything else, including their smokescreens. The planes coming over head weren't Shrikes like from the base, but Phoenix strategic bombers, with heavy chainguns and a much heavier bomb load than the shrikes could carry. This was a very good thing, especially after they dropped FAEs and cluster bombs on the remaining chimeras. Everything within approximately a mile of the drop point was destroyed, every thing else was covered with cluster rounds that shredded their bodies and soaked the ground in blood.

Third ID HQ, Chimexico

As their bombers went out, the commander knew despair, because even if some of the tanks survived they were probably out of ammo and low on fuel, along with the inevitable combat damage from that kind of engagement the tanks would most likely be combat ineffective, that was bad. The Tank Lords were probably their best bet at stopping the chimeras before being overrun and they had been more than decimated, they had been effectively destroyed. If the president had seen fit to release a company of metalstorms they might have driven off the chimeras with minimal casualties, as it was they were lucky to have one man in three uninjured, and ine in ten of the injured would probably not survive.

OOC: Hey, what does it matter?

IC:

"Is the cargo on course?" The Fleet Commander asked his apprentice.
"Yes, sir. I landed in Chimexico." The apprentice chevied.
"Good. I want it opened." The Fleet Commander responded.

Thousands of miles away, the rumbling and roaring cargo were released as the transports full of blood began to emit the beasts feverishly, as the lights turned red and the metal gates opened wide. The Garg-Hounds were loosed, and they were a deathly abomination never seen before.

With long sharp hook like claws and thick feathery skin, they assorted the lithe body of a wolf, but they seemed to roar and rumble tenaciously, as their quiet eyes began to organize into packs, hunting all life that moved. Within instances they watched a nearby Chimera fly over them vulturously, until it began to swoop down.

Within instances, the Garg-Hounds leapt up in pairs and ripped off the bloody wings and began devouring the beasts, enjoying their meal. However, their lust for blood created an insatiable hunger, as they began to run across Chimexico, looking for their next meal. The pack leader had a red blinking light on it, as it charged forwards.
