Imperial News Network

A massive holographic head appears on the news screen and begins to talk,

"Greetings, brothers and sisters. The Emperor, today, has announced that a massive gladiatorial match featuring over one hundred-thousand combatants is to be held as a gift to the people. The match won't be taking place in the colleseum, however. It is to take place in a massive, three-hundred square mile arena in the Doom Desert. Combatants shall be reenacting the Battle of Hell Valley. On the side of the vicious Arabs shall be various traitors to the Empire, including liberals, communists, hippies, sexual deviants, et cetera. On the side of the brave Roman Legionaries shall be the 2nd and 5th Legions, outfitted to Roman standards as it was in 180 AD. Once again, this is a gift from the Emperor, and so viewing the games shall be free. Strength and Honor!"

The talking head dissappeared to a view of the battlefield from an orbiting helicopter. Fourty-thousand Legionaries were setting up their defensive line, complete with balistas, onagers, scorpions, and other ancient siege engines. The men's shiny sliver and red armor gleamed in the sun as they stood like statues in perfect formation. Across the desert sat 60,000 "Arab" infantry, armed with curved scimitars, composite bows, and mounted upon camels. They wore thick black cloth armor and wore masks over their faces to make them look as if they were evil.

Official Statement of the Imperial Government of Praetonia

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v387/Praetonia/PraeFlagII.jpg

"It is with great disgust that the Democratic Imperium of Praetonia condemns these morally reprehensible acts. Up until now the Imperium had some semblance of respect for Doomingslang, but that is now gone. The Imperial Chancellory hearby imposes a 500% tariff on all goods entering Praetonia indirectly from Doomingslang, revokes all visas issued to Doomingslang citizens to remain inside Praetonia and bans Doomingslang ships from Praetonian-controlled shipping lanes."

[OOC: Note that this statement was issued by the Imperial Chancellory without being clear by the Prime Minister and the rest of Cabinet as they usually are. In that sense it isn't official government policy and is indeed a massive overreaction, but no one knows this yet IC except my Government.]

Official Imperial Response

Due to this unwarrented act of aggresion by the Praetonian Government, we have no choice but to sieze their embassy compound.

Embassy Row, Doom City

Diplomats from various countries could be seen walking down the street, chatting about the news and such. Suddenly, the ground began to shake. The people turned, and to their surprise, an M29A2 main battle tank had rounded the corner, followed by a formation of soldiers. There was deafening sound combination of the men marching in step and the growling of the tank's engine. The tank pulled up to the front gate of the Praetonian Embassy, and backed up a bit, giving it an excellent field of fire. The soldiers began to run, taking up positions in a shop across the street.

Within ten minutes of the message being sent, the Praetonian embassy had been completely surrounded.

The tank commander, a captain in the Imperial Army, got on a megaphone.

"Attention Praetonian Embassy! You are ordered to come out with your hands up! Comply within ten minutes or we will open fire."

The Guard at the Embassy Gate (http://www.stockphotography.co.uk/Upload/Stock/Previews/7556.jpg) was stunned by the massive numbers of troops heading towards him, and struggled to keep his horse from bucking him and fleeing. He regained his composure just as troops began garrissoning a building opposite, and fled into the embassy, horse in tow.

The Ambassador (http://www.guru-international.com/gray_monk/photograph/spring-rice_c.jpg) was at his desk, filling out paper-work when an Embassy Guardsman slammed the door open and, passing the Ambassador a pistol, told him to follow down to a bunker underneath the embassy. Furniture was being broken up and pushed against the windows, Embassy Guardsmen pushing the guns through the broken glass, men on the ground-floor with bayonets fixed. Power went off, food was moved below ground and the steel and titanium door was barricaded further with wood and crates. Four machineguns were set up, two on the top floor, one on the third floor and a further gun behind the doorway.

The Ambassador moved to a window on the top floor and, holding a megaphone, shouted, "This embassy is sovereign territory of the Democratic Imperium of Praetonia. Any attempt to seize the embassy will be interpretted as an act of war," he waited for a reply, waving aside an Embassy Guardsman who was urging him to back away from the window where he was undoubtably a sniper-target.

[OOC: I'll hold off surrounding yours for a bit.]

"Blue team in position." came the voice of one of the men over the radio as he and his twelve man team took up positions right next to the gate, on the left hand side, staying beahind the wall.

"Roger. Red?" replied an Imperial officer from an M-25C command vehicle down the street.

"In position." replied a second team on the right side of the entrance.

"Alright, gentlemen, let's keep it clean. We want the civilian staff alive. The gaurds are fair game."

"Understood." the team leaders responded in unison.

"Gold, you in position?"

"Roger. Gold is in position and aquiring targets." came the dark sounding voice of a sniper on a 20mm anti-material rifle, fitted with a thermal imaging scope.

"Good. Wait for the signal, then engage." finished the commander, motioning for a VEPR-clad soldier to fire his flare pistol.

The sniper, a corporal by the name of Lucius, saw the signal.

Party time, commies. he muttered, activating his thermal sight. He could now see the body heat of all of the gaurds around the windows. "The Lord is my Shephard, there is nothing I shall want..." he muttered, bringing the reticle over the head of the gaurd with the megaphone.

Suddenly, the tank lurched forward, crushing the iron gates of the embassy. The miniturreted 25mm centrifuge cannon lit up, spitting out a few hundred 25mm slugs at a velocity of 6000 fps towards the heat signatures next to the windows. A 12.7mm machinegun mounted in the same turret, just above the centrifuge, also opened up, all while Corporal Lucius picked off any soldiers that tried to flee further into the building. Finally, the turret swung upwards, and it began to pepper the building with fire from its 20mm autocannon. Behind him, the two teams swarmed out under the cover of the tank, taking up positions next to the door...

The Ambassador, waiting for a reply, received one without even noticing it. He was dead before he hit the ground. The Embassy Guardsmen crouching behind the wall next to him took off his helmet and shook his head at the waste of it all.

The windows, already smashed, were then pummelled by DREAD fire, their frames ripped from the walls and the walls were pockmarked with bullet holes. Three Embassy Guardsmen were equipped with rifle-grenades, and they fitted them quickly, still crouching behind the walls, to the ends of their rifles, which appear like an IOCW crossed with an SA-80.

"Give fire!" An Officer shouted once bringing his sword swinging down. The walls were now chipped and flayed, but the thick concrete was holding against machinegun and light cannon rounds. It wouldn't stand a chance against a cannon round from the tank, but that would undoubtably kill as many Doomingsland soldiers as Praetonians. Perhaps they didn't care.

Rifle grenades flew down onto the presumably thin armour on the roof of the tank, as the machineguns raked back and forwards and automatic rifles were used to supress and pick off Doomingsland soldiers. Following the arrival of combat armour and the like, each Praetonian soldier was issue with half of his ammunition in high-velocity tungsten rounds which, even if they didn't manage to penetrate armour, would still break bones and generally make the enemy's experience uinpleasant.

Several men guarding the embassy had already been snatched back by enemy fire, but for the moment there were more to replace the machinegunners, riflemen and snipers. Even the embassy staff were being given pistols, although they were painfully aware that they were mainly to allow the embassy staff to preserve their honour with a single round to the head if the Doomingsland troops broke through.

As the rifle grenades flew towards the roof of the tank, they were unable to penetrate the thick armor found on the roof. It continued to lay suppresive fire on the window positions. When it was seen that there were still men alive in the windows, the men at the doors pulled back to behind the wall, laying down a heavy suppresive fire on the Praetonian positions. Luckily, all of them managed to escape, although two of them were hit and wounded. Those two were quickly evacuated. Once all of the men had taken cover, the 120mm ETMAS cannon of the Arbiter tank spat out a HEAT round at the three men taking cover...

One of the Praetonian positions was blown away by the HEAT round, although luckily one of the men was not hurt. If it has been HE-FRAG, then he would most likely have been killed along with most of that floor. The men with reifle-greandes reloaded, although there were only two of them now. A rifleman shouldered his rifle and began distributing rifle grenades from a large crate.

"Take out the tank!" Yelled the officer over the Embassy radio, his sword now resting with the back of the blade against his shoulder, "Supress the infantry!"

The machineguns kept firing. As one or two men were hit, another took over. Most of the men hit were not killed, and some stubbornly stood to their posts, crouching against the windows and continuing to fire out towards the gates.

When it bacame apparent that all the men were gone, the men pulled back behind the walls to load their HEAT rifle-grenades.

The Deputy Ambassador was withdrawn to safety under the embassy building, where food, ammunition and weapons were being stockpiled to keep the Embassy Staff alive.

Praeton, Half an Hour Later

A small Badger LSV stopped at the corner of each of the four streets allowing entry Embassy Square. Forty Imperial Guardsmen took up positions crouching behind and on top of the small scout tank. Meanwhile, Civil Guardsmen [OOC: Police], heavily clad in kevlar and, unusually, carrying assault rifles ran toward the other embassies and quickly offered the foreign embassy staff a chance to leave if they so wished.

"His Imperial Majesty Sarius Publius I of Praetonia wishes to express, on behalf of His Imperial Government, His disgust at the illegal actions currently being purpetrated by Doomingsland forces against the Praetonian Embassy and Ambassadorial Staff in Dommingsland. With immediate affect, food, water and electricity will no longer be supplied to Doomingsland Embassy through Praetonian airspace. These sanctions shall remain in-place until such time as Doomingsland troops cease fire against Praetonian assets in Doomingsland and allow any and all survivers to leave for Praetonia."

The tank now began to carefully select targets, suppresing enemy machinegun positions with its 25mm DREAD gun, while targetting the second floor of the embassy with its main gun, aiming at the positions of the troops inside. It fired its 120mm ETMAS gun at its full rate of fire, thirty rounds per minute, but this also meant it would overheat within 15-20 rounds. However, the embassy would probably collapse in on itself before that happened.

The Marines had all retreated inside, taking up fireing positions in the windows and setting charges in different spots around the courtyard. Meanwhile, the embassy staff had grabbed their M27 PDWs from their bunks and retreated downstairs into the basement where they began to set up claymore mines at the entrance.

The Marines tightly gripped their M28 NGIWs in anticipation of a Praetonian incursion...

The call to retreat was sounded, and so they did. The Embassy Guardsmen each threw several anti-personel mines through the windows before ducking behind them and fleeing to the basement. Only 50% of their original complement remained. Some, however, had been in the basement for some time. They had been providing those hiding inside the embassy underground shelter with their only real means of survival. Explosives, rigged in the entry room - the first chamber of the bunker in front of the lift - and also in the underground garage beneath the courtyard.

"We're read to bang," one of the Embassy Guards shouted across the room, picking up his explosives kit. His officer shouted a confirmation back, and the two men went hastily from the room. Further down, in the main bunker complex, the commander of the Embassy Guard had received confirmation.

"Ok. Keep down everyone," he pressed the radio-control detonator in his hand, and the bunker shook. In another split second the concrete sperating the Doomingsland tank from the earth below would give way.
