Bashan

A Collection of News Reports,
but first,
A little background:
Bashan is on the brink of political turmoil caused by economic problems, Kilroy's radical writings, and Nikolai Demodov's alleged close ties with the Mannerheims of Sevaris. [A few of the many burning questions on the people's minds] Has Nikolai's ideology changed? Are the Mannerheims forcing these actions behind the scenes? What is Kilroy's Problem? Will "capitalism work" or is this an elaborate government plot to exploit the proletariot?
---------------
News Broadcast on heard on the Bashan State Radio Corporation (WBRC): Tensions flared in the Senate today as the Elected Viceroy took a more moderate stance. Once a radical left wing idealist, Viceroy Demodov now is taking a more pragmatic approach to the present economic situation. Yesterday, the government passed a bill that promises the beginnings of a Capitalist economy, revitalizing the private sector. Some say the changes in policy are heavily influenced by the Viceroy’s present dealings with Kaiser Mannerheim of Sevaris. Others say because the economy was on the verge of collapse these actions were immanent. The question is: were these the right steps?
In other news, the issue of voting has been brought up again this month. The question is: should it be required? In Bashan, the right to vote has always been held sacred, but has it been taken a step too far? Some say it prevents extreme right-wingers from taking control, but can you force democracy on the unwilling?

Kilroy’s Column in the radical Bashan Weaver (Essay the Third, The Kaiser's Long Arm and the Viceroy's thin neck): Faithful Readers! Do my ears deceive me? Do my eyes not deceive me? My tongue utters vile words as we are plunged into the valley of shadow. The foundations of oppression are laid with every brick, every drop of mortar placed in the “revitalized” private sector. Do you not see what I see? Do you not hear what I hear? This is the dreadful din of Capitalism’s corruption!
You, members of the proletariat! Do you not remember when the wealthy lived in decadence as you toiled in our fields for the good of the economy? Slaved in the sweatshops for the good of the economy? I ask, I inquire what good has the economy done for you?
The consumerist, capitalist dogs growl and tear at our hands and feet. They feared our equality. They fear their own proletariats. They fear their proletariats will transcend to the top and knock the pillars of oppression and capitalism down, to bring about an age of social justice and equality.
The place I once called home corrupts our people. They speak of money. They speak of decadence. They speak of science. I lived in their land. I know of their money. I know of their decadence. I know of their science. I was there. But now I am here! The money belongs to the wealthy few and the house of Mannerheim. They live in decadence, lavishing every Euro of the proletariat on pseudo-sciences to track down and to replace its hard-working people.
Now the Viceroy seeks the same, or perhaps the Kaiser and Kaiserine are forcing these action. He has adopted the same cloning program. Sevarian Scientists have been seen across the country visiting the universities and research centers. I have been arrested for “abusing the freedom of speech,” when there is no law that prevents me from speaking my mind. And now the corruption from my homeland spreads and blights the once Democratic Socialist, Free Land of Bashan. We must purge our land of capitalism. Do not vote Demodov in the next election!

Excerpt of a Report from the Bashan Daily Bull Business Section: The economy looks promising after action was taken by the Viceroy, backed by the senate to revitalize the private sector and allow for a more capitalist economy.

Later that week on BNBC Television News Station: Outspoken radical, hated by foreign aristocracy Eugene Kilroy has announced his decision to run for Viceroy. The BSBC’s latest polls show that he is at 29%, representing the recently formed Neo-Socialist Party; Nikolai Demodov is at 38% for the Liberal Democratic Socialists; Ahab Gulevich at 16% for the Democratic Republicans, and Sergei Ivanov trailing shortly behind at 14% also for the D-R. 3% selected Other/Unsure. Apparenty Kilroy is gaining support here in Bashan as well as foreign proletariats.
OOC: Foreign Dignitaries, feel free to RP your support of the candidates for the election, show support for the Kaiser, bash the Kaiserine, or attack Kilroy. Or just RP what’s happening in your country based on the developments in the tiny, but growing Free Land of Bashan.
