Official Statement from the Imperial Government of Napoleonic France
Today is a wonderful day for the French Chess Federation, and indeed, in all of France. In a decisive, excellently manuevered competition, French Chess Federation President Jean-Claude Loubatière successfully defeated Soviet Chess Grandmaster Anatoli Kaskparov. Because of this defeat, the Soviet Union's claim of Mr. Kaskparov as greatest chessplayer in the world is now France's own. Mr. Loubatière is honored to be recognized as chess world champion.

Mr. Loubatière made a statement earlier today about the match.

This was certainly the greatest match of my life, and mr. Kaskparov was a worthy competitor. As I progressed, I had doubts about his ability to make judgement, but I see that his aggressive style is indeed radical from French chessplaying, and denotes him rather skilled. I cannot fully found my victory on my own skill, but this is one small contribution I make to glorious France. I am only glad I could serve my nation, and I now seek to prove my skill further to the world stage, solidifying my postion as world chess champion.

A published version of the unedited transcript of the match is also being released, making its international appearence below.

"Are you pleased now, Merovingian?"
Jean-Claude Loubatière, President of the French Chess Federation says:
"I have offended you, and I do not deserve your friendship. Unless the offer stands. I am arrogant, and would not accept a draw. I can accept this, but that does not excuse anything I previously said. Am I satisfied? France is satisfied, the Federation is. But I am not, because of my own actions."
]?[ Anatoli Volgovitch Kaskparov ]?[ - Soviet Chess Grandmaster says:
"But let this be known... I played you without support from the USSR. You just played a freelancer. Then I'am sorry you feel that way, but I - personally - care not."
Jean-Claude Loubatière, President of the French Chess Federation says:
"Then I take my leave, and not bother you with my presence no longer."
]?[ Anatoli Volgovitch Kaskparov ]?[ - Soviet Chess Grandmaster says:
Sits as he watches the Frenchman leave.. He then slings the chess board across the room...

Because of the possible controversial nature of Loubatière as world champion of chess, we are willing to accept all state sanctioned matches against other world chess players. We love a good competition, and seek to back up our claim of Loubatière as world champion.
