The Invasion of Botswana (Earth RB)

No longer interested in Papua New Guinea- and rapidly losing interest in Belize- the Generalissimo J.L. instead set his sights on Botswana, which conveniently, bordered Rhodesia (formerly Zimbabwe). Geologically very rich, its immense value could not be ignored. While his rivals squabbled and fought over South Africa, J.L. realized now was the perfect chance to seize this gem. It would be relatively easy, and well worth the effort.

IC:
The President of Botswana was not feeling good. Africa was getting carved up like a prize turkey, and he was in the thick of it. It was inevitable he'd be swept up in the scheme of things, especially since the RB Empire was rapidly growing next door, having taken command of Zimbabwe (or "Rhodesia," as they had called it now).
He sighed and signed the order mobilizing the 202,176 soldiers Botswana had at its command. If anything happened, he wanted to be prepared.....

Your former nation will soon be integrated into the RB Empire. Resistance is futile. Your 8,000 troops are no match for the hundreds of thousands I have stationed at the Rhodesian border. My friend, I highly recommend an immediate, unconditional surrender. Botswana will become a self-governing state of RB, and all current political, economic, and social freedoms will not only be retained, but strengthened and expanded. Moreover, your economy will reach unprecedented proportions. The alternative is becoming a wasteland. The choice is yours. Choose wisely. Good day.

Will you send doctors, teachers, etc. after the occupation? Botswana has one of the world's highest rates of HIV infection, a fact which deeply concerns me.

Hm......this better not be one of those "white power" deals. We had a guy, Fabus, who ruled next door once, screwed everything up.
You'd better make good on that self-governing provision. Any attempt to bring in somebody else to govern us, and we will NOT be happy, ok?
Anyway, seeing as how I have at least 200,000 men total at my command.....fine. But they better not be disarmed when you guys come in. They're only good for stopping poachers, and kepping things quiet anyway. Might save you guys a few bucks to keep us around.

I swear, you will govern yourself. Except that your nation will be an RB territory. And as I said, we will not eliminate civil rights, but EXPAND them. Moreover, being a Roach-Busterian territory means unprecedented peace and prosperity. Kiss the days of being a Third World country good-bye.

Cool. I'll have to make a statement about this to the people, but I believe you. If anything, it would give us some peace and quiet.
-The President of Botswana
Sure enough the President spoke to the people about this....some were not too happy, others reacted pleasantly, if nervously, and decided to join the RB Empire.
Obviously, the people were nervous and had a right to be concerned; the President may have been sure of J.L.'s pledge to allow them to govern themselves, but the people were not so convinced. Still, they went along, their leader hadn't failed them before. Still a debate was raging, and the President was careful to ask the people to stay calm.
