OOC: There are times I stop and think, "If this was a super-dread, would people be all over this saying that 'this won't work' and 'that can't happen' so please comment on what you know so far.

Recapping that:
black jet
supersonic (actual speed unknown, assume really freakin' fast)
2 aircraft
1 is a fighter
1 is causing tremors with its payloads *hint*bomber*hint*
it takes place in Shenyang only at the moment

OOC: Yeah. I'm working on making a near exact clone of the movie aircraft that would work in RL. Including thought weapons control, and some special safety features, for my military. Though I'm doubting I'll get the full 3000 mile range stated in the book. I'm looking more at a range of 1200 miles, maybe more.

Secret IC:
Harbinger-1: Control, Harbinger-2 wants to come up for a formation flight test, see how close we can get without ill effects.

Control: Affirmative, one moment... that mission is a go. You have been cleared for take-off.

Harbinger-1: Affirmative, moving into take-off position. Harbinger-2 come up after me in 1 minute.

Harbinger-2: Affirmative, preparing the count down.

The PP-1 rocketed down the runway and out the hidden runway doors. one minute later the PP-2 rocketed out as well. The prototypes moved into an extremely loose formation at about 50,000 feet, at full afterburn.

Harbinger-1: Any ill effects yet Harbinger-2?

Harbinger-2: Negative, I'm closing the formation up more.

Harbinger-1: Affirmative, don't close up too far, we want an accurate reading of the tightest these things can get at speed.

Harbinger-2: Affirmative.

The PP-2 closed in slowly on the PP-1. No ill effects were created. As they continued this they got to a point where, if an aircraft was in the lead jet's slip stream the aircraft would become much harder to control, due to the fact that the the Firefoxes are "shockwave riders." They established that at full speed formations could be made tight, however the aircraft became almost totally unmanagable and the formation would run the risk of crashing. As a result it was not suggested that formations be very tight.

After the formation test it was decided to test the capabilities of the stealth system onboard, by having the PP-2 hunt the PP-1. The fighters separated at speed and began the gamof cat and mouse. The PP-2 had a very hard time getting a radar lock on the PP-1. Eventually a lock waws achieved, however the PP-1 broke the lock with a complex 7G manuever. The same results were recorded when the PP-1 got its turn to hunt. It was established that between the stealth system, design, and the defense system there was very little hope of bringing down a Firefox without another.

OOC

It would be interesting to have our JU-31's in mock combat with yours.
By default, we only use them to intercept really fast enemy aircraft as the F15 and F16's normally perform the more mundance duties.

:)

OOC: I'm looking to use them as ASFs and interceptors, mostly because I have a slightly aging design as my primary fighter. I don't know what my assosiate RS is looking to do with his, though I imagine the role would be the same. Once we begin full scale production, and they aren't top secret any more I think I can arrange a mock battle.

OOC2: for those who read the previous thread, you know this hippie
IC:
The hippie was sitting in the back of his Eurobus, doing whatever it is that hippies do when they aren't high (probably get high again). When several men in black suits walked up to the van. They knocked and politely asked the man to come out. The hippie, his sense of danger numbed from years of drug abuse, did as he was asked and exitted the van. He noted the men were in full black suits with earpieces and small golden eagle pins. He didn't realize they were Dominion secret police.

Man1: Hello sir, it has come to our attention that you recently sighted a, umm, UFO over the Shenyangi tundra. Is this correct?

Hippie: Yeah, it was black and did all these crazy things in the air.

Man2: Yes, we have the police report. Anyway, are you aware that area is off limits to civilians at this time.

Hippie: I wasn't breakin' no laws by trying to soothe (sp?) the Earth! You know how Mt. Garrix is gonna blow its top. I just want to save it and stuff.

At this point the hippie begins chasing butterflies around his van.

Man2: Right, what do you think?

Man1: Definitely not a UFO, and who'd believe this guy?

Man2: Yeah, but we have our orders.

The men walked up to the skipping hippie and asked him to come with them, they needed to talk somewhere private. He hippie saw through this line and began to resist them.

Man1: I hoped this wouldn't happen...

The man knocked out the hippie with one good shot to the jaw. He crumpled to the ground and the men picked him up and loaded him into their car. This was the last that the hippie would see of daylight for a long time. Possibly the last time period, if he didn't cooperate.

We will keep your offer in mind once the aircraft is completed. Obviously there are some secrets on the aircraft that would cause us to be a bit "ancy" about selling it, however I think we can sell it to a small number of buyers. I will confer with my partner President R.L. of Ruthless Slaughter about this offer.

A large black bomber sat on the underground runway of the test facility. It was asthetically identical to the PP-1/2, however it was much larger.

Diety-1: Control, this is Diety-1, we are in position on the runway. Requesting take-off clearance.

Control: Affirmative Diety-1, clearance granted. You have orders to proceed to the target area and do a live fire test with the T-14 Cloudmaker bomb.

Diety-1: Affirmative, bringing turbines to take-off speed, all systems green, we are away.

The enormous aircraft accelerated forward, moving toward the end of the runway. It lifted free of the Earth just beyond the doors and, once clear of the runway entirely initiated its afterburners.

(Inter-crew communication)

Pilot: Micheal, is the radar reading clean?

Co-pilot: Affirmative Alex. All systems are reading green as well. All systems are within the acceptable tolerances. Absolutely no problems detected.

Pilot: Good. We're 40 miles out, I'm tripping the Master Arm in 5 seconds.

The pilot flipped a small switch labeled MASTER ARM and a small green light registered above it. At 30 miles he openned the bomb bay and released the T-14 bomb. Its target was an area full of dummie buildings and vehicles, with a subterrainian bunker hidden in the middle. At the desgnated point the pilot released the T-14. It sailed silently toward the target, guided by a satellite to the bunker in the center of the town. It hitr the ground and burrowed down 35 feet, 10 feet from the bunker, and detonated. Instantly the hydrogen primer ignited the 44,000 pounds of high explosive contained within the bomb. The explosion created a bubble of soil approximately 1/2 mile in radius heaved up, and then fell back down into the crater the bomb had left.
The pilot and co-pilot observed the test and, depite the fact that they'd seem it dozens of times, were still awed by the sheer destructive power of the bomb.

They then returned to base and landed. They exitted the Aurora Omega bomber and prepared for de-briefing.

Harbinger-1: you want me to put the aircraft through its paces?

Control: Affirmative. We need to see what the best pilots can do with the Firefox.

Harbinger-1: Well, you've got the right guy. I'll see what she can do.

Harbinger-1 had been on station during an endurance test for only 20 minutes when this conversation occured. He flew to the waiting refueling aircraft and topped off the tanks.

Harbinger-1: Okay, I'm beginning the test in 1 minute.

One minute later the PP-1, which had been in level flight at full afterburn, whipped into a 9.5G turn, stopping back where it'd started. Next Harbinger-1 put the PP-1 into a full power rolling climb to the maximum altitude of 140,000 feet. Then into a nose dive at full throttle, reaching a speed of 4600mph before he levelled off at 1000 feet. During the whole exercise Harbinger-1 had never even come closqe to blacking out, and was sure that with a little more practice he could get even better performance out of the Firefox.

Two men are sitting in a room at Section 38, talking about the Aurora/Firefox project.

Man1: Should we...

Man2: No.

Man1: But so many people have already...

Man2: I said no! They aren't ready for that. No way, we haven't fully tested them, the defenses haven't been put through their paces yet, the electronics still need to be tweaked. The answer is no.

Man1: If we get them ready we can reveal them by the end of the month. If we just cut some corners we we'll be done within the month.

Man2: Do you want to order those men fo work their asses off to get three prototypes ready for an airshow which we can't secure no matter how hard we try? Do you want to be responsible when those aircraft crash, or explode, or get stolen, or god knows what happens?

Man1: I... I...

Man2: That's what I thought, if the aircraft are ready by then we can send them, but I'm not endangering those pilots or their aircraft by sending them out with an imperfect plane so they can get killed.

The first man leaves the room and goes back to work, supervising the tuning of the electronics of both Firefox prototypes.

Secret IC:
The man from the previous post is testing the laser defense system of the Firefox, along with his team.

Man1: Test the laser.

Man2: Umm... How do I do that without killing myself, sir?

Man1: Give me a sec... see that rock? Throw it toward the aircraft, see if it works.

Man2: (underbreath) If this works I'm gonna be so amazed. Where does he get these ideas, "throw the rock at it." Yeah, great idea.

The second man picks up the specified rock and throws it toward the PP-1 with as much force as he can. The low profile laser turret swivels around and engages the rock with the high power laser. The rock heats up and burns apart mid-flight. The lab "MacGyver" test, as it was called. Was deemed a success. Now all that remained between the Firefox and operational certification was a live test of the countermeasures, and some final software tweaks.

Harbinger-1: Harbinger-2, break off and prepare to begin the defense and weapons system tests.

Harbinger-2: Affirmative, I won't go too hard on you sir.

Harbinger-1: You want to bet you can even hit me, Harbinger-2?

Harbinger-2: Hell yes I do. 20 Golden Tij say I hit you within say, 2 minutes. We on?

Harbinger-1: Get ready to lose yourself some money Harbinger-2.

Control: If you two don't keep this professional we'll find new test pilots and you two will be out of the job! Keep it serious you two.

Harbinger-1: Affirmative Control. Harbinger-2 what do you say we go to niner-niner-one?

Harbinger-2: Niner-niner-one? Sounds good, changing to niner-niner-one.

Control: What are you doi... (cut off by the prototypes switching frequency to an encrypted channel used only for tactical communication)

Harbinger-1: Good, now that we don't have to listen to that guy anymore, lets start the test.

Harbinger-2: Sounds like a plan.

The prototypes moved to attack each other. The prototypes openned fire on each other with their guns, which had been modified with lasers to "tag" each other. Neither was able to pull off a hit, as they also went into evasive manuevers, H1 breaking up and H2 breaking right. They then began an aerial ballet of attempted attacks, neither making a hit on the other. H1 went into a full afterburn climb during one of H2's attacks, and reached the edge of the aircraft's cieling. The engines stalled and he began to fall back to Earth. The PP-1 fell in a no power nose dive. The H2 saw this and saw an oppertunity to hit his superior. He dropped into a dive on H1's tail and openned fire. At that moment H1 slammed the afterburner and pulled out of the dive, looping around and getting on H2's tail, where he openned fire. He hit H2 and a cloud of smoke signalled his kill.

Harbinger-1: Thats 1, and by the way, you owe me 20GT.

Harbinger-2: Grrrr. Fine, lets continue.

H2 accelerated away from the test area, moving to try to attack H1 with one of the mock Phoenix-4 missles onboard. He broke up and around, lining up a lock on H1, he loosed one missle via the thought FCS and watched it trail away. He saw as it closed on H1, then cursed to himself as the countermeasures pod on the tail kicked in and the Phoenix-4 went after one of the decoys it deployed, he knew that it would happen about half the time, but he didn't expect it the first shot. H1 wheeled around after the miss and closed on H2, he got a lock and released a mock RH-67L ASRAAM (Advanced Short Range Air to Air Missle) to try and catch H2. It got on H2's tail and closed, only to be destroyed by the PP-2's laser defense, another defense that hadn't been expected by either pilot. H2 tried the same trick, and lost his missle to one of the flare decoys (Shenyangi ASRAAMs are IR guided) Then H2 got on H1's tail and finally managed to hit him with gunfire.

H1 reponded by getting on H2's tail immediately afterword and bringing him down with a point blank ASRAAM up the tail pipes. The ASRAAM transmitted a signal to an onboard reciever and once again caused a cloud of smoke.

Control: You two! I ought to have you court-marshalled that was irresponsible and unprofessional! I should take your wings as soon as you get back! Then agian you did get us a very comprehensive idea of what the Firefox can do. Good job. I declare Harbinger-1 one the winner with a score of 2 to 1. Too bad Harbinger-2.

Harbinger-1: Good game Harbinger-2, maybe we should put you for a promotion, you sahowed some nice moves up here today.

Harbinger-2: Yeah, but you still out did me. Guess thats just bad luck. Congratulations on your victory.

Harbinger-1: Thanks, lets get back to base.

Shenyang and the Dominion are willing to sell you the Firefox on the condition that you NEVER resell them and that after they are retired most, if not all of them must be destroyed via the onboard self-destruct, which is controlled from the ejection seat. It is one of our most advanced fighters, and we don't want to lose a tactical advantage if a stray plane is somehow captured, which we assume you wouldn't allow anyway.

OOC: Actually I've got a pretty good idea on the time.
IC:
Murdock: I know, between the bomber and the fighter I bet we've got a technological revolution on our hands. Who'd have thought that a simple bomb could be so destructrive? Have you seen the craters they left yet? Amazing, simply amazing. The fighter sure ain't shabby either, at those speeds I'm amazed that we didn't need to develop a whole new form of pilot to fly them. All it needed was a little bit of that new fuel, what did they call it? JP-10 I believe, yes thats it. I really have to look into promoting my test pilots. They pushed those things to the limit, and the aircraft never failed either, amazing.
Maybe in the near future we even out do the T-14 for sheer power, to think a non-nuclear bomb leaving a crater that big. 1/2 a mile I believe is the estimated blast diameter.
And then on top of that Mt. Garixx was a perfect cover, I think she'll be errupting soon by the way. With any luck it will wipe out any trace of the tests in the immediate area. Not that anyone has even been able to see the tests, well anyone we didn't deal with that is.

Murdock: I'll reroute the Aurora Omega now. A better question is: Will anyone ever CARE? They are GreenPeace after all.

A transmission is beamed to the Aurora Omega and it immediately altered course to attack the GreenPeace flagship. ETA: 2 minutes. When the target range was reached the bombardier released the T-14 Cloudmaker onboard the Aurora Omega. When it impacted it would totally obliterate the GP flagship and the compression wave from the explosion would destroy the zodiacs, which were harassing military vessels in the are for some asinine reason(they are GreenPeace, thats what they do).

OOC: The bomb will impact in my next post
Shenyang
05-04-2005, 22:01
The Aurora Omega released its T-14, it flew silently toward the GP ship, the GP didn't know it was coming until approximately 30 seconds before impact. At that moment one of the protestors looked up and saw the bomb hurtling toward his ship at Mach 4 (mach 3 release + mach 1 for gravity) He had time to sound an alarm, but it was already too late. The T-14 hit the deck and drilled downward toward the keel of the ship. It stopped and the hydrogen primer ignited. The bomb detonated and the GP flagship was instantly fragmented to the point that it shrapnel flew in all directions. The explosion created a compression wave that caused a large small tsunami. The wave radiated outward and the zodiacs were completely destroyed by the 15 foot surging wave. Afterword the Aurora Omega codenamed Eden-1 circled around to look for survivers, so their position could be relayed to a gun cruiser to eliminate the survivors. None were found.

Eden-1: SNS Requiem, this is Eden-1, no survivors detected, suggest you make a sweep of the area as a precaution.

SNS Requiem: Affirmative Eden-1, Requiem to Dominion carrier, could you dispatch some helicopters to aid our search, we don't want any survivors blabbing about our bomber. Besides, their GreenPeace, who'll miss them.

The SNS Requiem, a gun cruiser, began methodically searching the area for any survivors, none were found.

IC: CSBN News at Noon:

Anchorman: We now bring you live coverage of the Sounds of Freedom air show at Randova National Airport. Lacey, how's the show?

Lacey: This is absolutely amazing, moments ago an F-16 finished its routine, up next is the Black Eagles, the SAF's flight demonstration team. Before they start I'd like to give some background on their aircraft. They are flying F/A-1010L Broadsword fighters. These are the cutting edge of Shenangi technology, despite recent reports that another aircraft has been developed to replace it. George, could you zoom in on their aircraft?

*The camera zooms in on 6 Broadsword fighters sitting on the runway. Six pilots stepped out of a nearby transport and began walking toward the fighters*

As you can see they bear a distinctive black and red color scheme. These aircraft were designed to out perform all modern fighters on the market. It looks like they are beginning their preflight checks.

The canopies of the broadswords lowered down as the engines of the fighters whirred to life. The narrator began his speech about the pilots.

Narrator: Eagle-1 is pilotted by commander Roger L. Gavins, Gavins has participated in every war that our great nation has participated in, including the recent war on terror. Eagle-2 is pilotted by major Alan Micheal, a seasoned veteran of the fighter pilot scene... Now listen as they move to take off.

Eagle-1: Okay team, move to take-off, Eagles 2-4 join me by the southern end of the airfield once you're airborne. Eagle-5, Eagle-6, you do your thing once your off the ground.

Narrator: Thanks to the beautiful weather here today our pilots will perform the full altitude show, this will showcase all the abilities of the Broadswords and their pilots as it includes not only precision high altitude flight but also will highlight the low altitude capabilities of the Broadsword.

(OOC: Anyone who's ever seen a Blue Angels of Thunderbirds show can imagine what this would be like, for those who haven't, imagine super-precise manuevers with between 2 and 6 aircraft. All the while with smoke trails ebing left by the pilots, the aircraft aren't damaged so don't think of smoke that way. I can't create a whole flight demo off the top of my head, so I'll let you imagine it.)

Harbinger-1: Eagle-1 this is Harbinger-1, do you copy?

Eagle-1: I copy Harbinger-1, you're a little bit early.

Harbinger-1: Well, we can stay hidden for a few minutes above the cloud cover, that sound good?

Eagle-1: We have a planned climb in three minutes, stay hidden until then. We'll bring you and Harbinger-2 into the formation up there. Where's Eden-1?

Harbinger-1: He's holding off until the Firefoxes are unveilled.

Eagle-1: Affirmative, see you in 2 minutes.

The Black Eagles continued their routine, precisely 2 minutes later the center diamond went into a 90 degree climb, as they passed the clouds the Firefoxes formed up on the diamond. Far below the soloists kept the crowd distracted with several near-miss passes on each other.

Narrator: Here comes the diamond from directly above airshow center. Wait, thats not a diamond is it? No folks, thats a delta. It looks like our pilots have picked up some hitch-hikers. Wait a moment as we patch you through to the cockpit of Eagle-1.

Eagle-1: Hello Shenyang, we'd like to introduce you to the new Air Superiority Fighter your government has developed. The MiG-41 Firefox. These two pilots are former Black Eagles, so they should be able to run with us, ain't that right Harbinger-1.

Harbinger-1: I think we might even show you a thing or two Eagle-1.

The routine continues, the Firefoxes joining the soloists at times and the diamond at others.

The routine finally ends and the fighters land. As the Firefoxes are taxi through a secured area to a viewing area the announcer states:

Announcer: Well, it doesn't loom like that's the only surprise today. If you'll direct your attention to airshow left you will see an enormous bomber coming in at around 500 feet. This is the new Aurora Omega bomber, developed as a joint Dominion/Shenyang project along with the Firefox it is the only bomberr ever designed to meet the requirements of a single bomb. Watch now as it comes in with the low speed dirty pass, so called because every thing it open, landing gear, bomb bay, flaps are down, everything is in an open configuration on this pass.

Later the Aurora Omega lands and taxis into the same area as the Firefoxes. After it stops the public is let into the viewing area as the airshow takes an intermission.
