A Long Awaited Return

Euroslavia
24-03-2005, 17:41
It seemed like ages since the civil war ended, and perhaps it was. Many years came by, faster than an eagle soaring through the sky. Reconstruction efforts had consistently worked through the roughest weathers in the cold Euroslav winters, and had successfully finished re-building the capital. Today is the official day of a new era on the nation, with previous leadership coming back into power. Lady Destra stood upon the throne once again, with the resistance scattered across the nation, defeated. This time, there would be no turning back. Lady Destra had finally returned to her homeland to gain vengeance on those who pushed her out thirty years ago, and she got what she deserved. Her attitude alone has changed dramatically, from being the kind, sincere leader of a generous Euroslavia, to a stern, and sometimes cold-hearted dictator who would be looking out for the interests of her nation before anyone else. Her decision to change the course of Euroslavia's future of diplomacy shocked the rest of the world, at her official resignation from the New World Order, as well as the Woodstock Pact, and for future reference, she has plans to annul a few alliances with other nations as well. Ones that are more of a liability than of profit for her nation.

The streets within Euroslavia had been completely vacant in the first year that followed the civil war, but slowly, they became more and more active. Shops and businesses began to build up again, moving to where all the activity had proven to be the most profitable. The citizens of Arcadia, mainly, had become accustomed to staying in their homes, learning to live independently with almost every business in the capital city bankrupt, and closed down. Self-reliance was certainly one of the strongest points of every citizen of Euroslavia. The fact that the nation could survive on its own, without most of its imports was a major plus.

The world was about to see a new Euroslavia, one that has learned from its past mistakes. The nation wasn't going to turn its back on its old allies though. Nations such as Sarzonia, Praetonia, Pacitalia, ViZion, Independent Hitmen, and Jarridia would remain pure in her heart. A completely new diplomatic stance was being formed, and friendships being re-evaluated in order to further the interests of the nation itself. New relationships were to be formed with different nations that spark the Lady's interest; however, which nations they will be is still a mystery, even to those who were closest to Lady Destra.

Reconstruction of the battered Euroslav military was already well on its way to completion. Within another five years, everything would be complete, and the nation will be back on its feet again, ready to defend itself, or its allies from any sort of attempt to manipulate their independence.

Lady Destra was preparing herself for an address to the citizens of Euroslavia, as well as to the nations of the world, about the end of Euroslavia's isolation, and their re-entrance of the nation into world affairs. She was nervous, but at the same time, excited. She was looking forward to revealing a tougher nation, and to establishiing contact with nations that she only dreamed of be-friending when she originally took power at the beginning of the Age of the Shogunate. Her methods of concentration included meditation, and the concentration and manipulation of the energy around her. She was well versed in the methods of sapping energy out of the things around her, as well as other people, because that's just how she was. There was no way in changing her personal chi.

After approximately twenty minutes of meditation, a messenger had arrived to Lady Destra's throne room to address the importance of the speech, as well as what little time there was left before the speech had to be given.

"My Lady. It's time to make your speech. Everybody is waiting for you. I'm not trying to put any more pressure on you, but you must remember, what you say today is going to give others a good first impression of whether diplomatic relations with Euroslavia will be worthwhile."

Lady Destra let out a brief chuckle, and stood up.

"I've got everything covered. You have absolutely no reason to worry about my speech today. After all, I've been waiting twenty years for this."

"Alright then. Follow me."

Lady Destra followed the messenger outside of the throne room, and into the entrance of the Palace, where everything would begin. The press was unimaginably disruptive, while her bodyguards and her fellow colleagues tried to calm them down. She briefly heard a voice standing out of the rest saying, "Is Euroslavia going to head down the path of destruction, and ally itself with outcasts? After all, you yourself were an outcast twenty years ago."

She ignored it, and walked up to the podium, and looked at the media surrounding her. Everyone became silent, as if the gods had given her the ability to make everyone mute. She then began her speech.

I'm sure most, if not all of you know of my past, and if you don't... well, I'll give you a brief summary. Twenty years ago, the leadership of the nation was expelled from Euroslavia while a corrupt Communist government was given leadership of the nation. That leadership was me. In exile in the nation of Vastiva, for twenty years, I might add, I carefully plotted on exactly what I must do to return to Euroslavia, and restore the throne to its former glory. And now, look was has happened. Five years ago, the civil war in Euroslavia ended. A new age is upon us today, and new laws are in order. Our nation must return to its former glory, but at the same time, we will not be nearly as tolerant as we were before.

A strong mistrust has been formed between us and the rest of the world, as most sat idly by while our nation was ravaged. Nothing was done to save our people from the destruction that was incurred. From that, we must move on. Diplomatic ties would be reformed, alliances will be severed, and a stronger and more realistic approach will be taken towards the rest of the world. We cannot put ourselves at such a risk, as we have in past times. Our people are fiercely independent, more than they have been before, and know in their hearts how hard it is to live through such a horrible time, seeing as no one knew how the civil war would turn out. Daily, bombs would explode in domestic areas of our major cities, and missiles would stray, and hit the factories where our civilians were working. No one knew if it would end, and if they would be alive the next day. That was the way of life during our civil war. These people deserve a strong leader, one that won't lead its nation into the affairs of other nations, and one that will concentrate on making the nation a better place by doing everything that could possibly be done to improve upon it.

With that said, our resignations from the New World Order, as well as the Woodstock Pact will officially be noticed as of today. Our nation is open to those who seek diplomatic contact, but be warned, we are not the same Euroslavia as before. Seeking diplomatic relations won't be as simple as they were. We need to assure ourselves that your nation is of no threat, and we must weigh each available option of exactly why a friendship with your nation is a good thing. That is all."

With that said, Lady Destra completely ignored the uproar of the rest of the crowd, and walked back to her throne room to rest. The new age had finally begun, and she was proud...

IC: Sarzonia is pleased to see that the legitimate leadership of Lady Destra has been restored to its rightful position in Arcadia at the lead of our great friends from Euroslavia. We hope to further our strong relations and we offer our help in the reconstruction of Euroslavia to her pre-war glory.

The construction efforts all across the nation were almost at completion. Workers and volunteers alike joined in hands, despite their political background, to build up each of their hometowns back to what they used to be before the civil war. Improvements were implemented as well. It seemed as though the spirit of Euroslavia had returned with a vengeance, and that nothing could divide the people. They were tired of having to fight for their own personal independence, and were united in the fact that a legitimate ruler, once respected not only throughout the land in Euroslavia, but amidst the world itself, has returned to power. Lady Destra was a leader that many people looked up to, because of her strength under pressure, and her many ways of rallying her own people when it looks like all will be lost. Many women strove to walk in her footsteps.

Another announcement from Lady Destra was expected very soon, regarding trade, defense issues, and future policies on alliances, for more clarification.

The Lady walked back out of the Palace in the same manner as before, looking as calm as ever, and walked up to the podium only to be 'greeted' by the media once again.

This is certainly the most public coverage I've had in a long time. But in order to clarify a few things from earlier, i need to elaborate on a few statements. One thing that I failed to mention is the matter of trade. Our current trade routs and trade partners will be cut down, but as minimal as possible, as to not cause a raucus in the Stock Market; but at the same time, we will also be looking for new trade partners for the sake of establishing relations with new nations.

All alliances, except for Sarzonia, Praetonia, Independent Hitmen, Pacitalia, ViZion, and Jarridia, and of course, our committment to the Union of World Powers, will be annul and void as of now. The re-establishment of an alliance between our nation, and the nation in question must be discussed through diplomatic channels. Therefore, our defensive issues, having to do with the same topic as alliances, will be changed in a similar way. Euroslavia will only host the mentioned nations and alliance on our soil, but strictly for desperate situations. There will be no troops in our nation that have no sort of intent. We've learned from our mistakes in allowing troops from other nations enter our soil, without knowing the things that our own troops know. Their greed and thirst for a chance at receiving territory in Euroslavia, is the main reason at my stance of being very pessimistic about such things. Of course, we are open for discussion, if any of our allies wish to inquire about any of these things, for even more clarification.

With that said. Lady Destra stood there, looking out at the media, willing to answer a few questions for the public.

"Do you plan on committing our troops to any wars if our allies were to ask us to do so?"

"That's a good question. No. After having been through so much in the past years, namely our civil war, our troops aren't ready for committment to such a task. I'm sure our true allies will understand."

Another reporter stood up and asked another question.
"What do you plan on doing with the remaining rebel faction? Do you plan on rounding them up?"

"They will be treated just like any other citizen in Euroslavia. If they go along peacefully, nothing will happen, but if they try to break the law, they will be punished accordingly. There is no special situation for them. I suppose you're probably wondering why I'm being so lenient on a group of people that may plot to overthrow me once again. I'll explain. The one thing that gave me the slightest sympathy for them is the fact that they were fighting for something that they believed in. Back in the days before the Communist Revolution, I was in the same position, except for the fact that I succeeded. They won't receive any special treatment, but I suppose I do understand where they are coming from."

She paused for a second, and smiled. She hoped that her responses showed her people what kind of a leader she is, and what to expect from her in the future.

"Alright, I'll take one more question."

Another reporter stood up, and responded.
"What ever happened to your sister, Sinistra? There are reports that she is in a high position in the nation of Nikolaos the Great. What is your opinion on this?"

She paused for a moment. Her feelings started to get to her. Yes, her sister was a traitor; nevertheless, she was still her sister, and she loved and missed her. Her leadership position must come before her needs though, so she stood straight, fixed herself up mentally, and responded to the question.

"Sinistra is, in fact, in a leadership position within our neighbors, Nikolaos the Great. I wish nothing but the best for her; however, she will not be permitted to be allowed back into Euroslavia, in fear of her conspiring against not only me, but the legitimate government of Euroslavia. I do not take risks of that sort."

She stepped down from the podium, and stopped in her position for a moment. Her forehead was beginning to sweat, and her head was beginning to pound. She felt as if she were becoming weak, by allowing her emotions to have such an effect on her. Lady Destra ran from the press, and went straight to her Throne Room, where some serious meditation was calling out for her. Something needed to be done to release her frustration...
