Migs and Missiles (OPEN RP)

Novosibirskk
24-03-2005, 03:05
Airman, Dmitri Kurst gave the side of the Warplane a small tap with his wrench.
"This one's all finished" He shouted to his supervisor.
The Mig-23's late pilot had been killed during touchdown, when an unused missile suddenly discharged, Blowing away the cockpit, and the Man's upper half.
Kolotavitz Air Base was At the forntlines of the War with the Rebels to the south. The Rebels were highly armed, and faulty equipment didn't make things any easier on the Military of Novosibirskk. The Democratic Socialist Government of Novosibirskk was filled with Corruption, and the fact that the nation was fairly poor, caused a great deal of anxiety among eople n the mountainous mining and oil districts to the South of the country, and that's were the Rebels began popping up.
Dmitri walked across the parade ground of the base, observing the Beige Mountains further away. The base was situated in a 5 by 2 mile gorge in the Kolotavitz region, an area which throughout history has been plagued by rebellions and tribal uprisings. The mjority, of Novosibirskk's population was Russian, but in some areas, there was only one ethnic group, such as the Tajiks in Kolotavitz.
Dmitri walked across a Mig-21 wing the was serving as a makeshift walkway in front of the open air showers. He had heard things would be changing soon. The government had just issued the long awaited plea for Foreign advisory. This would include maintanence training, pilot training and training for just about eery other job associated with any modern military.

Lev Andropov slowl switched the Mig-21 back into manual and began his descent to the landing strip. Lev was quite possibly the best pilot currently operating at the Kolotavitz Air Base, and was prized by the C.O., Colonel Josef Fedrov .
In this particular flight, he and his wingman, had strafed a rebel camp with rocket pods, and shot down two rebel aircraft. Both pilots had come home safely and had exited their aircraft. Before making it to the debriefing room, they were stopped by Trotsky
"Apparently an air combat advisor is to be arriving here shortly, I want you to be ready, because you're going to help me gret him" He said
"Well, thanks, I guess that's important enough for me to loose a nap over" He replied sarcastically.
"And it seems someone also mentioneed a few new aircraft were being shipped in, and we might be sending our Mig-21's to Novolesk for complete overhauls"
"I hope they're good planes, I almost got shot down today, because one of my missiles failed to launch"

Out of curiosity, what are the rebels fighting for?
Novosibirskk
24-03-2005, 03:28
OOC:
The Tajik Rebels of the Southern Part of the country are fighting to reform the tribal government that was dismantled whe the current government came to power. They are dissatisfied with the Corruption in the Politburo, and that's really about it. We're socialist, so it's not like they were being oppressed or anything.

Lt. David Maxwell hated his job. Infact, that was his exact thought as he climbed on to the C-130J. This thought was so dominating his mind that he couldnt help but share it.

"I hate my job," he said to the load master.
"If its any consolation, I really don't care."
"I dont even know where the hell we're going."
"Novosibirskk."
"I didn't particularly want to know, and its not like I have a clue where that is. Or what language they speak. Fancy teaching them to fly is going to be great fun."
"Quit whining and go sit down."
David found his seat, and didnt wake up again untill they landed 12 hours later.

The C-130J he was riding in contained two SF.260W trainers, along with weapons and spare parts. Assorted ground crew sat on benches along the sides of the bay. Some 20 other C-130Js had been loaded, and would make several round trips to bring in 30 basic trainers, and more advanced aircraft.

David had a tendency to talk in his sleep. Durring the flight, one of the ground crew heard him say "West Virginia."

OOC: Can I aid the rebels? if not then ignore thest of this post.
Secret IC:
Yes, if you will accept we would be willing to provide weapons and training much better than what is currently available to you.

our weapons satisfy us... the rebel leader trailed off.

I'm sure they do but you will be much more satisfied with what we have to offer.

We could use better anti air weapons... the migs of our opressors have killed many freedom fighters

then that is the first thing we'll offer. the represenative slid his laptop across the table towards the rebel leader.
that is the MERLIN integrated missile system, its anti air capabilities are roughly the equal of americans Stinger but its more reliable and better conditioned to the modern battlefield, softlaunch capability goes anywhere, you could launch it through a window. same launcher can fire anti armor missiles with good range and penetration. market price is 3000 US dollars a piece, 500 per missile, cheaper the more you buy.

I will think about it...

OOC: sure, that'd be great if you couls do the rebels

IC:

The C-130's began to circle the airstrip and flight directors were busy signaling the planes down. Dmitri ws amazed at the planes he had seen coming off of the larger carriers. He had never seen jets like these. They were definitly western made. The thought loomed in his mind, as it did in everyone elses. Would they be replaced? They had no idea how these modern fighter operated. The fear of being phased out was ripe among the maintenance crews.

Lev Andropov was delighted at the aircraft he was seeing coming off the c-130's. He had not yet met any of the advisors, but he had already seen this fighter. He had received 3 flight hours in the Grippen when he had participated in a training course in Scandinavia.
"Wow, i wonder how much we're paying for these things" He said out loud.

Colonel Lynch was having a bad day.
"What do you mean you forgot the pack the manuals?!"
"They'll be on the next flight over."
"Fine. Tell David to start to train them without the manuals."
"He's not gonna like that."
"Well too bad. Tell him he can take up a few of their better pilots and teach them."
"Right"

"Really? Cool. Go get me the best 3 pilots you can find, and tell them they're going up."

David was considering how best to scare his trainees to death. The Gripen was one of the most maneuverable fighters in existence, and he wondered if they could even fly formation. Formation hell, he thought, as long as they can keep up with me.

"Alright, y'all. This is going to be a basic 'follow your leader' flight. I know y'all don't understand the avionics, but that doesn't really matter for this. All ya need to know is where the stick and throttle are, and if you have that you can manage. One of us will do the power on, you just take care of the taxi and take off. After that, all y'all gotta do is try and keep up with me. Lets go."

With that brief address, David led the way to the parked aircraft.

IC:
Lev could sense there was something wrong with the Man they had sent to train them. He apparently wasn't too thrilled about being in Novosibirskk.
His usual wingman had also been at the Scandinavian airshow with him, and had limited experience in the field.
"Nikolai, Lets show this guy that we're not as Novice as he thinks" He said as they seperated and went to designated aircraft.
His first bit was to open the hatch andseat himself properly in the new jet's seat. He had forgotten quite how complex the inner workings were, but he remembered most of the controls. Getting usd to the actual flying would be the hard part.
"Lieutenant, I forgot to check before I boarded, but are these planes armed now?" He asked as the taxied towards the runway.

OOC: KK I guess I'll RP the rebels too but anyone else can initiate attacks if they want to, just don't godmode plz. BTW, do you have AIM, so we could work some stuff out outside the forum?

The representative considered the rebel leaders words for a few seconds. I see you are using old soviet assault rifles, they are cheap I'm sure but fora few extra hundred dollars a piece we could supply you withsomething better than even your enemies probably use.

And what is that... you aren't suggesting american arms are you? Our kalashnikovs are good enough.

Oh ho ho. no we offer the latest in assault weaponry not american fossils. its a german design, the G-11 AR. fires 4.7mm caseless ammunition which is much lighter than conventional ammo but just as effective. the magazine size is also better than most assault rifles at 50 rounds without any increase in weight over a 30 round traditional magazine. the G-11 also comes standard with a 1.5x collimnating sight that is easy to use and increaces accuracy greatly.

Do you have any to demonstrate?

of course, there is one in my truck.

go get it.

The representative walked out to the truck and grabbed the assault rifle, bringing it back into the bunker he showed the rebel leader.

'You can't be serious.' he laughed upon seeing the weapon. 'this is a toy, look at it, its ridiculous, my warriors can't go into battle wielding such a weapon.'

Let me demonstrate it for you.

certainly demonstrate away.

so they walked outsideto a modest gun range where some rebels were practicing with various weapons. the representative stood about ten yards from the firing line, raised the stubby looking box with its pistol grip that looked like an afterthought to his shoulder and fired a quick three roud burst into the target. All three rounds thudded into the target, the holes overlapping to form one larger ragged looking hole dead center on the target. examining the single hole the rebel leader looked impressed.

'not even the vaunted M-16 could have done that.' said the rebel.

True, the G-11 has an internal housing for the action that is mounted on rollers so that the recoil does not affect theaim of the second and third rounds in a three round burst. the action is unique as well as there is nothing to eject after the caseless ammunition is fired, in three round burst the gun has a rate of fire of 2000 rounds per minute.

How much?

700 US dollars per gun, include four additional 50 round magazines, after that magaizines are 3 dollars a piece.

that is an impressiveweapon, I will take a a thousand for my warriors and for your anti air missiles I will take 200 launchers and 2 thousand missiles to start with. the money will be transferred to an offshore accountas soon as the first shipment arrives.

That arrangment is acceptable.

The People's Republic is extremely concerned by the Novosibirskk
Governments apparant policy of utilising area bombing tactics against the minority groups in southern Novosibirskk. Such action is tantamount to ethnic cleansing, and we call upon all decent nations to join us in condemning this reprehensible policy. Until we see an improvement in the treatment of the ethnic Tajiks, as well as all other minority groups in Novosibirskk, we will be imposing economic sanctions against Novosibirskk.

"The rebels don't usually stay in one spot twice, but they might still be cleaning up from yesterday. We hit 'em pretty hard about 20 miles south, past those mountains"
Lev replied as the first of the Jets took off.

They would piss themselves when they saw the kind of weaponry the Novosibirskk Air Fore was using now, he thought.

We can go ahead and soften them up for the ground force that's going in soon any way. We could possibly find some rebel fighters, but they never even posed a threat when we had the old Mig-21's

"Economic sanctions, HA!" Foreign minister, Kursk replied to the embassy administrator. "Like the economic policy we had was useful anyway" He joked.
"Ethnic cleansing, Bah"

NOVOSIBIRSKK EMBASSY IN SHILDONIA

Sir, i reiterate to you, we do not base this war on race. These rebels are multinational, with the majority being Tajik. We actually have a great deal of Tajik fighting alongside our ethnic Russian soldiers and pilots. The fact that there are civilian casualties in this war is not pleasing, but it is something all wars have. We have increased our efforts greatly to ensure that as least civilian losses occur as possible" Vasily Kostantonov said in a thick Russian accent. "We are sorry that you feel the way to do" And he hung up the phone.

Vasiliy was becoming too old for politics, he was forgetting the number one rule; patience. Oh well, he thought. He would soon retire, and move back to Novosibirskk. he would sit with his wife and grand-children and perhaps have a vegetable garden...

Off the coast of a random medium sized port town in Novosibirskk...

Three Red Tidean Cargo Freighters steamed towards the town. One stopped and sat off shore while the other 2, without authorization, simply steamed into the town and dropped anchor in the port. Dozens of men wearing ski masks and wielding AK-74 Assualt Rifles and RPG-7s streamed off the cargo ships and gunned down the custom agents. 2 of them commandeered 2 cranes and began to unload the very large cargo containers on the freighters. The front 'doors' pf the containers fell open and BMP-1 APCs, BTR-80 APCs, AMX-10RC Light Battle Tanks, SA-8 GECKO truck based SAMs, and ZSU-23-4 Self Proppelled Anti-Aircraft Guns. From the freighter off shore, MI-24 HINDS Assualt Helicopters lifted off and swooped in low over the port town. But heavy equipment wasnt the only thing being unloaded. Men armed with SA-7 Handheld SAMs, AT-14 Kornet ATGMs, AK-74 Assualt Rifles, MP-5 Submachine Guns, and RPG-7s flooded off the cargo ships.

While we appreciate the fact that your government is taking action to limit number deaths caused by your campaign of aggression against the Tajik minority, we cannot help but note the fact that there would be no such deaths if their requests for greater autonomy were met.
All these people want is the right to self determination, free to live their lives in accordance with their own wishes, without the interference of a distant and ineffective government, who seems more interested in stamping out resistance by force than listening to the wishes of its people.
Perhaps the reason your government is so interested in imposing its will upon the southern regions of Novosibirskk has less to do with the welfare of the people that live there, and more to do with the fact that the region is rich in natural resources. Your ambassador is correct: this war is not motivated by race, but by greed.

Two Thousand Kilometres Off Shore,
PRS Burani (Titan-Class SSGN)

A small light started flashing on Lt Paul Wallace's station. It could only mean one of two things. Either the light was broken, or someone wanted to speak to the captain. That 'someone' would probably be one of the Admirals from Shildonian Fleet Command. It was probably the latter. "Captain, I'm getting a message on the TAA, we're to ascend to periscope depth to recieve new orders." The TAA (pronounced 'tar') was the Towed Anttena Array, a cable almost a kilometer long which allowed the sub limited communications with the outside world.
"Conn, prepare to bring us to periscope depth, make sure to run our coordinates through the computer to see if there are any hostile sats overhead"
"Aye Sir. Computer reports skies are clear, coming to periscope depth"
Twenty minutes later, the crew of the Burani had recieved the downloaded the following message off of the encrypted satellite link, and was well on it's way back into the perpetual twilight of the deep ocean.

The represntative shook the rebel leaders hands after sealing the deal on the Merlin's and the G-11's. now he had a meatier deal.

My sources tell me that you sorely lack for armored vehicles

'this is true' replied the rebel leader.

we can sell you some of those as well, better even than the new BMP's that your enemy uses. our HGT 'gators' are the best on the market, mounted 25mm canon, Guided anti tank missile launchers, amphibious and built for rough terrain. a 25mm cannon capable of tearing through most light vehicle armor.
1.5 million per unit

And training?

we will provide training for the new weapons and ehicles as a complimentary service.

We will take fifty of your vehicles to start with options for more at a later date.

If what you call Greed, means our economy, then you go ahead and call it that. Fathers struggle to feed their families because there are only so many jobs to go around. The Government, last year, was forced to lower the legal working age to 14 so that sons could supplement their mother's incomes to help care for their families. Government welfare is stretched to the breaking point, and you would have the Gaul to call this a ware of Greed, or Race! The rich southern mineral deposits are vital to our economic system! Go ahead and ask any man, woman, or child how they would feel if their Government gave up the resources to the south. I gurantee you they would not share your sentiment. Which brings me to my next point. This war is also about preserving the Union of the Great Federation of Novosibirskk.(OOC: I am RPing as a breakaway republic of Chochezkoo, my former nation of some 2 billion people, and a powerhouse economy) It's not as easy as just saying, "Oh, okay, here's half of the Country, go ahead and take it", Suddenly, everyone who might not like the government, and owns a gun could form his or her own little rebel group. This coup will not be tolerated!

-Vasiliy Konstantonov

The paper that morning had a political cartoon on the front page. Something that had never actually happened before, showing a Shildonian man holding out three bags marked, weapons, training, and moneyto a man in black, labeled "Rebel".

"Who draws this crap" Brigadier General Vasily Luschenko commented as he threw down the paper. It made all Shildonians out to be monsters. Such was theerror of freedom of the press. He was currently in charge of the 124th Heavy Assault Dragoon forces stationed in Tasayez, smack on the frontlines of rebel territory. It was so close, that he had had several close calls with stray machine gun fire coming from the outskirts of the city. He had recently received new commands from High Command regarding a change in overall tactics...

NOVOSIBIRSKK PARLIAMENT MEETING HALL

"... And due to these increased casualties, and startling number of modern weapons and tactics we have been finding among Rebel forces, I have intiated Wartime Act num. 7, Granting permission for the unrestricted bombing and shelling of Any and all targets, perceived to be useful to rebel forces, and/or rebel sympathizers. This is a drastic act indeed, but I am confident that this will bring an end to this war, between now and the end of the year." As they rolled in over the port, David was confronted with a view of ships he did not recognize. He was aware that two CNS T-AK ships were due in to Novosibirskk, but these weren't them. The formation was over the town by now, and he was planing to turn and make a low level pass over the docks when he was interrupted by a loud, high pitched buzzer in the cockpit accompanied by flashing lights.

"OH SHIT! We're targeted! BUG OUT! BUG OUT! BUG OUT!"

With his command, the other three fighters broke formation and took evasive maneuvers at high speed out of the combat zone. David did not maneuver, but did light his burners. A new siren went off in his cockpit.

"Oh, crap monkeys. Its off."

Inverting, he scanned the ground for the smoke trail. Seeing a streak out of the corner of his eye, he rolled and pulled head on to the missile. Within 500 feet of the missile, he inverted again. With only 100 feet to go, David sharply pulled the stick towards him, and the Gripen dove like a hawk. The missile flew past and exploded.

David got out of over the city, leveled out and resumed cruise. He called back up the formation, and they returned to the airbase. David was going to have a hell of a time explaining this to the Colonel. He could just picture it now. “What do you mean not only did you engage in offensive operations, but you got shot at?!”

They were the 43rd Spetsnaz Group. There was no set size limit on their unit, pieces of it opereated all over the country, and in some cases outside of it. They were brutal and merciless. The maximum number of non-officer prisoners acceptable was ten. Their existence was never admitted by the government, because of their tactics in combat and methods of extracting information afterwards. AKS-74U special Assault Rifles. LT. Niko Pavelcek looked slowly around the corner, and quickly turned back.
"Um, okay, let's bug out, we need to report, that we have a small army stationed in Mirsk.
Suddenly, However an amrmored Vehicled turned the corner and aimed it's guns on the recon team, who dropped their weapons and raised their Arms.

OOC:For the record, Red Tideans are predominanatly Russian.

IC:Several HOA Thugs appeared, their AK-74s raised and ready, shouting to each other in Russian as they moved cautiously towards the men. The AMX-10RC LBT kept its cannon aimed at the troops. The Thugs hustled the men into the port where the HOA had set up a nice little base. 4 helipads where MI-24 Hind-C Assualt Helicopters sat. 2 cargo ships flying the Red Tidean flag stood nearby, unloading tons upon tons of Armored Fighting Veichles, Truck Mounted SAMs, and other weapons. The men were hustled into the port facility and into where the Customs Managers office used to be. In its place was the words 'Sergei's Office'. The lead HOA thug pushed open the door and walked in, The 'prisoners' followed, with the other 4 HOA thugs taking up the rear. Behind the desk was a rather unremarkable man wearing a brownish suit and sunglasses. The man next to him was a different story, he was intimidating to put it mildly. The man behind the desk spoke in Novosibirskk, "Ah! We have some visitors! My name is Sergei Voronov and this is Josef. You must be a govermental recon team! I will tell you why we are here, to sell. We have weapons, we have guns, and we are willing to sell to all sides." Sergeis face changed from rather friendly to menacing, "But DONT double cross us or there WILL be consequences."

"Er, roger. Two of you can head to Tasayez. One of you has to come with me back to base. You absolutely never leave a fighter without a wingman."

Col. Lynch was not happy.
“What do you mean not only did you engage in offensive operations, but you got shot at?!”
"I mean we shot up a couple trucks, and then had a SAM fired at us."
"You know how many, not just regulations, but international laws you just broke?!"
"Lemme guess, 7? 9?"
"Shut up, David. That's not the point. You put our aide to Novosibirskk in danger. If you had been shot down and captured, the Chancellery would have flipped. Just what the hell did you think you were doing up there?!"
"I thought it-"
"YOU THOUGHT?! Lieutenant, your mind is writing checks your body can’t cash. You just watch it or I'll have your ass in a sling."
"Aye, sir. Anything else?"
"Yeah, the Chancellery is sending over another 100 Gripens and trainers. Also I'm going to report whatever those local recon boys find, plus forward your mission report to Top. They just might pull us out and send it regular troops if they think its too dangerous."
"Duely noted. Request permission to get drunk."
"Permission granted. Get the hell out of my office."
